Niko Niko Tei in Mainz

Unfortunately the price-performance ratio is not right. The three of us were in the restaurant on a Saturday evening. To be honest, I'm conflicted. On the one hand the food was tasty, on the other hand all the dishes were quite small. And since we chose the restaurant based on the information that it was the best Japanese restaurant in Mainz, we were rather disappointed. Yes, it's all fresh and the quality isn't lacking, but my "large" tuna rolls were of a normal size and only getting four of them for a relatively high price was a bit of a shame. It was the first time I regretted not ordering the combination offered at a sushi restaurant. Because only there did the price-performance ratio seem to be at least approximately right. We made a reservation and that was really necessary because the store was super full. And when we tried to come half an hour before, our table was still occupied. But I personally didn't find it extremely loud or uncomfortable and the service handled the number of guests relatively well. Even if you had to wait a relatively long time for the ice cream in the end. All in all not bad, but somehow not good either, just mediocre, so 4 stars overall.

This Japanese restaurant is the best around. Highly recommended.

Nice food, but I really do like the service. You need to book a table to go there and the waiters kinda put pressure for you to leave. I understand the place is busy, but still it feels awkward. Maybe there are better ways to do it :)

The undisputed number 1 in Mainz and beyond for almost 15 years. Even in Frankfurt you have to You have to search for a long time to find such a good Japanese restaurant. By far the best sushi quality in Mainz. If you're lucky, there's even Otoro and other rare cuts.

Very good, we recommend pre-ordering as it sometimes takes a relatively long time. But great food and very friendly.

Difficult to evaluate. The food is very tasty, but unfortunately the price-performance ratio is not right at all. The portions are very small and quite expensive. The prices online no longer match the current prices. I tend not to eat large portions, rather smaller ones, and I wasn't full (lunch menu). Personally, I didn't find the sushi to be as tasty as it was advertised (surveys showed that it has some of the best sushi in Mainz) and I can't recommend it. Otherwise it is a very simply furnished restaurant, a bit too uncomfortable inside for me personally. Lots of changing customers at lunchtime. The outdoor area is very nice and it's nice to stay here in summer. The photos were taken on three different visits. The same dish twice. (2022-2024)

It was our first time here at Niko Niko Tei and it certainly won't be the last time. The fried eggplant and the ramen tasted and looked fantastic! The amount of ramen was large enough to fill you up (you don't necessarily have to have an appetizer unless you have a big appetite) 😊 The dessert Mochi Strawberry Cheescake is also recommended! The service was extremely friendly and patient. You can also get cutlery upon request if you are not very good with chopsticks.

Authentic Japanese cuisine in the backyard. Tempura and Tonkatsu very tasty and varied and filling as a menu. Around 12-16 euros for the menu is a very fair price for authentic Japanese food in Germany

Great food from friendly and attentive service, hidden in the back yard. I only had a short time, so I asked if it was realistic to eat something small within half an hour and was served very quickly. I ordered two starters and was completely happy to have received such an exceptional and good meal. Unfortunately, after 30 minutes I had to leave again. I also really liked the Genmaicha tea.

It's really not an insider tip in Mainz without reason. From the outside it looks really small and inconspicuous. It's been a long time since we've had such good Japanese food because there aren't these standard things here, but rather something that's really special. There is also a beautiful terrace at the back which is a dream but unfortunately we couldn't use it because of the rain. The service was super helpful and explained everything. It's not just the food that makes a restaurant special, but everything around it and this restaurant has that. I really hope that I come to Mainz again so I can eat here. The food was really tasty, especially the gyoza starters were very tasty. Personally, I had the ramen noodle soup (good portion) as my main course and it also tasted excellent. Had cheesecake strawberry mochi for dessert, also very good. Staff also very nice.

Without Google Maps we probably wouldn't have ended up here. A hidden restaurant in a courtyard. Totally quaint and cozy! The food is phenomenally delicious and the service is super attentive and friendly!!! A must if you love Japanese food and are in Mainz. We weren't here for the last time!

There aren't many places where you can eat Japanese food in Mainz, so I come here every time I visit. There are many local customers and it is crowded. The scent of Japanese-style soup stock gives Japanese people peace of mind. We recommend udon, fried chicken, and sushi. I wonder if the ramen has a local flavor.

A nice restaurant with options to eat on the terrace or courtyard. There were three of us and we all had sparkles in our eyes after dinner. We had 2 x bentos and once fried chicken with curry and rice. Everything was super delicious 😊

The entrance to the restaurant is so hidden that we almost left because we thought it was closed. Luckily, we discovered the entrance and were able to enjoy the best ramen in town. We were also surprised that the restaurant was busy because the probability of walking in there by chance is very low. I suspect that most guests came there either through Google searches or recommendations from friends. But we will definitely come back.

I think Niko Niko Tei is one of the best restaurants in Mainz. I've been going there for several years now and I think the soups, starters and other main courses taste very good. I particularly like the different daily menus, which the chef makes very tasty. The sushi is a bit bland for my taste, but it shines with the very different options. It's a little difficult to get there as the parking spaces nearby are usually full. Overall, I would say that the restaurant is highly recommended

It had little to do with classic Japanese. The Tonkatsu was just a breaded schnitzel with lettuce and soy sauce. My friend had stomach problems after her udon tempura and vomited several times. So it was nothing in terms of quality.

A bit hidden in the back yard is a high-class Japanese restaurant. The food is very tasty and the service is very attentive and friendly. An absolute recommendation for a lovely evening in a pleasant atmosphere. Table reservation is recommended.

The Niko Niko Tei surprised us positively: the most “Japanese” thing I’ve been able to enjoy in Mainz so far. The food is so good, the ambience (space, mood) is also authentic. The starter of tofu in Japanese sauce was the best tofu I've ever had. The lunch menu with miso soup was fine: karaage. Perfect and just as good as I know in other very good Japanese restaurants. Dessert: matcha ice cream and yuzu ice cream. Mmmm delicious. 5 stars for the Niko Niko Tei. A favorite in Mainz, in a great location!

Real Japanese food and taste like you eat it in Japan. All the other Japanese restaurants is fake Japanese food cuz cook it by Vietnamese and taste like something else not Japanese. I love the atmosphere of the restaurant and good food there.

天ぷら定食を食べました、とても美味しかったです。ドイツ人の方が京都で調理師免許を取ったようで、感激しました。 正午過ぎにすぐ入れましたがら13時前にはいっぱいで、ホールの女性は1人できりもりしていて大変そうでした。 日替わり定食、にこにこ定食はお弁当スタイルで、ベルリンでは食べたことのない日本の定食屋さんスタイルだったので、次回は絶対食べたいです。金額もこの物価高では良心的だと思います。

Foods are delicious with good price, drinks are nice too, highly recommend the rice tea they make, otherwise there are just bottled ice tea. The Katsu dish was not as expected but it's edible. The bento box was very nice!

Ich war dort mit meiner Freundin essen spontan und ohne Reservierung. Wir hatten Ramen, Edamame und ein paar Dumplings. Es war unfassbar lecker. Das Ambiente ist sehr schön und schlicht gehalten. Auch sitzt man in dem kleinen Vorhof wunderschön. Die Bedienung war ebenfalls sehr freundlich. Dieses kleine Restaurant fühlt sich an wie eine Umarmung von einem geliebten Menschen. Ich werde auf jeden Fall wiederkommen. Ich kann es wirklich nur jedem empfehlen.

Wir haben hier heute einen sehr netten Abend verbringen können. Das Essen ist sehr gut und preislich sehr fair angesetzt. Man sitzt drinnen, wie auch draußen gemütlich. Das Servicepersonal war äußerst freundlich und kompetent. Es gibt asiatisches Bier, welches- je nach eigenem Geschmack- sehr gut ist, oder man doch lieber Bitburger bestellen sollte.

Schönes asiatisches Lokal, leckere Speisen unter anderem Ramen, zuvorkommend Service. Ein bisschen ychade ist, das die eigentlich schöne Einrichtung doch schon etwas in die Jahre gekommen ist. Mit ein bisschen Liebe wäre das Ambiente richtig schön.

Sehr freundlicher Empfang. Trotz Reservierung drinnen konnten wir aufgrund des schönen Wetters draußen sitzen, da zum Glück noch ein Tisch frei war. Im Garten des Altbaus sitzt man sehr gemütlich. Der Service war schnell, das Essen lecker und alle sind satt geworden. Auf jeden Fall einen Besuch wert.

Das einzige wirklich authentische japanische Restaurant in Mainz. Insbesondere die Mittagsmenüs (teishoku) sind sehr zu empfehlen. Zutaten sehr frisch und Fleisch immer perfekt gegart. Abends würde ich mir noch ein paar Gerichte mehr im Izakaya-Stil (ippin ryori) wünschen.

Das Essen war fantastisch und die Bedienung sehr herzlich. Da sie selbst die Gerichte im Restaurant isst, konnte sie uns gut und ehrlich beraten. Bei den ganzen leckeren Gerichten war es schwer sich zu entscheiden. Leider ist die Beleuchtung am Abend im Außenbereich ein wenig zu spärlich. Das Lokal ist ein wenig versteckt in einer Gasse, aber ein absoluter Geheimtipp.

Tradition trifft auf Moderne. Eine Bereicherung für die Mainzer Gaustrasse. Die Gerichte sind Hervorragend und zugleich liebevoll und mit t Stil zubereitet. Wer Japanische Küche liebt,.ist im Niko Niko absolut richtig. Wunderbares geführtes Familienunternehmen.

Sehr leckere japanische Gerichte. Super Service und schöne dezente Einrichtung. Bei gutem Wetter kann man auch draußen im wunderschönen Hinterhof sitzen. Keine klassische asiatische Fastfood Küche sondern authentische japanische Gerichte von einer Japanerin gekocht.

Nach langer durch Corona verursachter Pause besuchten wir endlich wieder dieses japanische Restaurant. Der Raum mit seinem wohltuend klaren Ambiente hat sich nicht verändert. Der Service bleibt schnell und freundlich, die Preise günstig. Das Angebot wurde noch erweitert, nicht zuletzt durch weitere Zutaten zu den klassischen Gerichten. Alles ist schmackhaft und sehr frisch. Erstaunlich, in welcher Geschwindigkeit die Speisen nach der Bestellung auf den Tisch kommen. Ein solide, rundum empfehlenswerte Adresse.

Here is where we go for authentic Japanese dishes - Sushi and Maki, Udon, Tempura, and many other Japanese meals. The restaurant is run by a Japanese family who consistently delivers good quality and flavorful dishes. A favorite of my family! You might need to walk to get to the restaurant since it's right around the Fastnachtsbrunnen in Mainz (along Gaustrasse) which is a non-parking area, but the trip is very much worth it and highly recommended. I suggest that you call in first for reservation if you're coming around lunchtime as the restaurant gets really packed.

Gutes Sushi in netter Umgebung, deutlich leiser als vergleichbare Möglichkeiten in der Stadt, Service etwas semiprofessionell aber nett.

Wir waren wieder im Niko Niko Tei und wiederum sehr zu frieden. Der Service, im wesentlichen durch eine junge Dame alleine sicher gestellt, ist sehr freundlich, hilfsbereit und sehr schnell. Überhaupt ist die Schnelligkeit von der Küche bis zum Tisch ein großes Plus. Dass auch einige Japaner diese Restaurant aufsuchen, ist ebenso eine Gewähr für Qualität wie die Tatsache, dass es in der Regel ausgebucht ist. Die zum Teil sehr unterschiedlichen Gerichte werden im Menu gemeinsam serviert, stets mit einer eigenen und passenden Soße und stets eine Freude für den Gaumen. Ein richtig gutes Essen auf der Grundlage frischer Produkte für einen weiterhin günstigen Preis.

Also man muss das schon suchen, bis man es findet, und wenn man dir. Ist erinnert wenig an ein japanisches Lokal. Erst der Blick auf die Speisekarte verrät, was einen erwartet - japanisches Essen. In Kürze: die Suppe und das Tofu waren gut, das Sushi war ok, die 2 Garnelen mit viel pappigem Reis kamen frittiert und in einer sehr deftigen und dicken braunen Soße. Alles in allem befriedigend aber nicht aufregend.

Das Haus sieht von der Straße nicht einladend aus, aber sobald man in den Hinterhof geht, ist es eine andere Welt, total gemütlich. Das Niko Niko ist wirklich etwas klein und übersichtlich, jedoch gemütlich. Und was wirklich wichtig ist: alle sind freundlich und das Essen ist authentisch und lecker, ich war total positiv überrascht, alles frisch zubereitet. Und lange musste ich auch nicht auf das Essen warten. Alles Perfekt.

Erstklassiges Sushi-Restaurant fernab des üblichen Fließbandbetriebs. Hier bekommt man klasse gemachtes Sushi und auch Varianten, die in den üblichen Sushi-Läden eher selten sind. Hier essen auch Japaner, was für die Qualität des Hauses spricht.

It’s hard to find good sushi and sashimi in Germany but Niko Niko Tei is on top of my list. They even have Chotoro sometimes which is really good. Also the sashimi cut is quite good quality. The spread could improve here a bit. The lunch options are cheap and good and there are many other smaller snacks available even if you don’t want raw fish.
