Niiko - Sushi x Vegan in Leipzig

My friend was almost spared the meal because her order was forgotten. Otherwise, I didn't feel like I was understood when ordering. Pointing at the menu was the waiter's saving grace. The food itself was on the verge of "okay" and very uninspired.

We'll be back! Delicious homemade lemonades and iced teas.

Perhaps it's not justified, since we only had the lunch menu, but it was absolutely basic. The meager starter we had with it wasn't anything special either. So I don't understand the high rating, but perhaps the Leipzig standards aren't that high either.

The chicken ramen is extremely delicious, the tastiest ramen I've ever eaten. The lemongrass tea wasn't as tasty. Sushi with beef was a different version. The Masha Panna Cotta with slush was unfortunately sold out.

Four of us came, and we all received our food quickly and, most importantly, at the same time. I had the homemade peach iced tea and the bulgogi. The iced tea was pleasantly fruity and not overly sweet like regular iced teas. The bulgogi was also delicious. The beef had a very pleasant flavor and was beautifully tender. The restrooms were clean, and the entire ambiance in the restaurant was beautifully designed! The staff was very friendly and cheerful. We had an authentic experience and were all very satisfied!

Good food, fair price/performance, nice service

Unfortunately, our visit to this restaurant was extremely disappointing. The service left a bad impression – there were two servers on duty, only one of whom was friendly. The food was also disappointing. We ordered chashu ramen – the taste had absolutely nothing to do with real ramen. Some of the vegetables were not fresh. I expected more from Chicken Kare Don, and it still lacked seasoning. I cannot recommend this restaurant, especially not for those who appreciate good food and good service.

ginger ale was good, everything else was pretty bad. service was laughing and talking the whole time and not being attentive enough imo, fingerfood was just frozen food warmed up and the ramen didn't taste like ramen, sorry

It was my first time there and I'll definitely be back. The food is delicious (if you like it spicy 😉), the service is very friendly and attentive, and the ambiance completes the overall excellent impression. I'm looking forward to my next visit.

It was a very bad restaurant. We stole the mango matcha panakota, which tasted like sparkling water, mango grass, and fish, and another noodle dish, and no matter what we stole, it tasted like egg.

The "current" Niiko has nothing in common with the "old" Niiko, which was exclusively vegan and served incredibly delicious sushi. We were visiting Leipzig and were really looking forward to it after two years. The sign from the "old" Niiko was actually still hanging there, and we went in, but realized we were completely wrong. When we went into the "new" Niiko (about 100 meters away), we were told that they no longer serve sushi at all, and the menu only featured a few vegan options. It would be helpful to take down the old sign and clearly communicate that there is a new shop with a new menu that has nothing to do with the old one.

I don't understand the good reviews either. The food was okay, but definitely nothing more. We had Pad Thai and Bibimbap (tofu & beef), and we've had much better everything at other locations.

The finger food is really excellent, especially the tteokbokki is really tasty and not too sour

Tasty food, fresh ingredients, interesting menu. We ate beef at Niiko, very well prepared. The taste and portion size were adequate to the price. Unfortunately, the service was poor, we waited a very long time for food. We did not feel like welcome guests there - maybe because we do not speak German.

In short: disappointing. The food was weak – I just didn't like the duck pad thai. I didn't finish the dish. The duck was dry and had many inedible parts. The noodles were also dry and tasteless, and there were only a few vegetables – really nothing special. Regarding the lemonade: I specifically asked if it was made with syrup or fresh ingredients. The server said it was fresh. But the taste was definitely syrupy. To cover it up, they added a few fresh ingredients, but I know the taste of fresh ginger and lime – and that was definitely not it.

Unfortunately, this is not “Bulgogi”, it’s like the “Wok” fried beef and vegetables with rice. 14.9€ is super expensive for this dish. Will never come back again.

There are Korean, Japanese, and Thai dishes. The appetizers are also varied. They're almost enough to fill you up. There were vegan options for both the appetizers and main courses. The homemade lemonades were good. My peach ice tea even had a real peach slice. The miso soup didn't contain tofu—we're used to tofu in other restaurants. We ordered bibimbab. The gochujang (spicy sauce) tasted slightly sweet. The familiar taste was at least slightly different. Unfortunately, our bibimbab didn't contain seaweed leaves, even though the menu says so. The food was delicious. The service was friendly, if a little shy. The ambiance was really nice.

While strolling through beautiful Leipzig, I noticed a restaurant called Niiko, which was packed. Outside, it was packed, so I went inside. Two staff members suddenly shouted, "HELLO! HELLO!" Suddenly, a member of staff stood in front of me and said, with a loud, energetic voice, "What are you doing there!?" I explained that I'd like to eat inside because it was too crowded outside. The staff member showed me the free table in a very dismissive manner... When I asked for his recommendation, he threw the menu around, shouting, "That! That! That!!!" That's not how you treat people... The beer was bordering on warm... So I ordered a second beer, which was slightly cooler... The food, however, was really good, and the atmosphere was great! But that was it.

I was thrilled. The service was excellent, super friendly, everyone was smiling! The ambiance and atmosphere matched that Asian street food feel. The best part of all was my salad. I've never eaten such a delicious Caesar salad. Honestly, it's almost mouth-watering. It might not look spectacular in the photo, but the taste is 12/10. Keep it up!

We were guided by the good reviews but were severely disappointed. The service was lackluster and slow. We had to wait quite a long time for our small order. The drinks, however, came quite quickly. Unfortunately, I had dirty mint in my drink, but that can happen; it's a natural product, but it shouldn't. The food took longer; I suspect it was forgotten. Unfortunately, my friend's meal wasn't quite the real deal; it was very sour and not sweet, and the compact presentation made it rather mushy for a honey chicken. I was expecting something different. Unfortunately, my food was partly cold/lukewarm, but tasted okay. However, the portion was a bit too small for me. The lady who took the payment was very friendly. That was a nice change.

I went there for the first time because of the good reviews. After being seated, I waited 10 minutes for the menu, after ordering, I waited 15 minutes for a drink, and another half hour later the food arrived. I had the Japanese curry with chicken. The food was okay, but not Japanese curry. The sauce was at most curry-like; it really only tasted of the carrots and potatoes, not curry. It also lacked the typical color of curry. What a shame. I was looking forward to a good Japanese curry after all the good reviews, but was unfortunately disappointed.

I don't understand the good reviews! I was asked three times what I wanted. They didn't understand me, so I had to switch to curry sauce. The portion was very small, there was barely any chicken, and the food wasn't anything special! The price/performance ratio was not good at all! Everything was very cramped. The toilet seat was completely incorrectly installed or the wrong size? Never again, not recommended! Get a server who speaks German and understands the order!

We tried the bibimbap, and unfortunately, it was the worst thing I've ever eaten. But maybe Vietnamese dishes taste better.

We've already eaten here twice and would (highly) recommend it. Accordingly, my rating fluctuates between four and five stars. First, the ambiance and service are truly top-notch. Even when it's busy, you can get a good seat and the service is quick and super friendly. The food ranges from solid to very good! The kimchi, the vegetarian gyozas, and the ttebokki were really very good. The vegetarian shrimp soup and the seaweed salad were good. The fried chicken, on the other hand, was just okay; there was too little sauce and it was too bony; you can get better options elsewhere in Leipzig. All in all, though, we'd happily come back. - 4.5 stars

I loved the food, but the restaurant was completely outbooked. That caused some service issues, which it took pretty long to correct them. I would definitely recommend and happy to checkout on an empty day to correct my review. 🙂

I had a wonderful date here with my boyfriend, and Niiko made the evening simply perfect! The atmosphere was dreamy, the food incredibly delicious, and the servers were super friendly. I highly recommend Niiko! 💌

The restaurant has a cool concept. It serves the universally loved Japanese and Korean dishes that everyone should try at least once. I had the ramen and it was amazing!

We literally waited almost two hours for food – and in the end, it wasn't even that good. We had to remind the staff several times that we were there, and after an hour and a half, one of them said, "We're starting to cook now." The appetizers and one main course arrived after 10 minutes, and we ended up having to have the main courses packed up because we had to go home. Awkward service, even though it was busy, was unacceptable.

Biggest scam! Portions were super small and overpriced. The taste didn't make up for it. Disappointing.

Great food, great location. I had the Korean Fried Chicken Teriyaki, which was so good I enjoyed it twice. Once while eating it, and once while I was vomiting up the raw chicken for four hours. 10/10 recommendation from TVW.

A real insider tip! The Korean chicken was absolutely amazing – super crispy, perfectly seasoned, and incredibly juicy. The bibimbap was also a dream: fresh, delicious, and full of flavor.
