Nbelungenschänke in Frankfurt am Main

Der Name „Nibelungenschänke“ lässt einen wirklich nicht erahnen, was einen im Inneren erwartet. Man denkt eher an Wikinger, Met und Wildschweinbraten als an eines der besten griechischen Restaurants Frankfurts. Zum Glück täuscht der Schein oft. Nach einer wirklich exzellenten Führung durch die Deutsche Nationalbibliothek beschlossen wir, ein altes Lieblingsrestaurant wiederzuentdecken, um zu sehen, ob unsere Erinnerungen im Laufe der Jahre etwas zu romantisch geworden waren. Das waren sie nicht. Im Gegenteil, die Realität hat die Nostalgie überholt. Der Empfang war wunderbar herzlich, der Service aufmerksam, ohne aufdringlich zu sein, und genau mit dem richtigen Maß an Humor. Man spürt sofort, dass es dem Personal wirklich Freude bereitet, seine Gäste glücklich zu machen. Das Essen? Einfach hervorragend. Cremiges Tzatziki, köstliche Oliven, perfekt gegrillte Riesengarnelen, gefolgt von einem exzellenten Bifteki. Zum Abschluss ein echter griechischer Kaffee und eine hervorragende Crème brûlée. Und in einem Anflug von Nostalgie mussten wir einfach ein Glas Retsina bestellen – den günstigsten Wein auf der ansonsten wirklich beeindruckenden Weinkarte. Er schmeckte genauso gut wie in unserer Erinnerung, vielleicht mit einem großzügigen Schuss schöner Erinnerungen. Während ich diese Rezension schreibe, frage ich mich schon, warum wir so lange mit unserem nächsten Besuch gewartet haben. Wir haben uns daher fest vorgenommen, die Abstände zwischen unseren Pilgerreisen in diesen kleinen Tempel der mediterranen Küche zu verkürzen. Absolut empfehlenswert – lassen Sie sich bloß nicht vom Namen täuschen!

Als Ortsfremde haben wir auf Empfehlung dort für 15 Personen reserviert. Schon der erste Kontakt war sehr zuvorkommend. Das zog sich durch den ganzen Abend. Sehr leckeres Essen, alle waren zufrieden

Letzten Freitagabend, nach einem Theaterbesuch in der Nähe, beschlossen wir spontan, das Nibelungenschänke ohne Reservierung zu besuchen. Obwohl das Restaurant komplett ausgebucht war, wurden wir vom Manager herzlich empfangen, der uns freundlich bat, kurz zu warten. Schon nach kurzer Zeit wurden wir zu einem wunderschönen Tisch im idyllischen Innenhof geführt, umgeben von viel Grün und einer entspannten Atmosphäre. Der Service war den ganzen Abend über hervorragend. Unser Kellner war äußerst professionell, aufmerksam und begrüßte uns stets mit einem herzlichen Lächeln, sodass wir uns vom ersten Moment an willkommen fühlten. Das Essen war einfach außergewöhnlich. Die frittierten Calamari waren perfekt – leicht, knusprig, nicht zu mehlig und ohne jeglichen öligen Geschmack oder Geruch. Die Soutzoukakia gehörten zu den besten, die wir je gegessen haben, nicht nur in Deutschland, sondern auch in Griechenland. Das Schweine-Souvlaki wurde in großzügigen Portionen serviert, und das Fleisch war unglaublich zart, geschmackvoll und von exzellenter Qualität. Die Präsentation der Gerichte, das gesamte Ambiente und die kunstvolle Inneneinrichtung trugen zu einem unvergesslichen kulinarischen Erlebnis bei. Die Kombination aus authentischer griechischer Küche, exzellentem Service und einem wunderschönen Ambiente ist etwas ganz Besonderes. Wir können ehrlich sagen, dass dies mit Abstand das beste griechische Essen war, das wir je in Deutschland genossen haben, insbesondere wenn man das Gesamterlebnis aus Speisen, Service und Atmosphäre betrachtet. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder und empfehlen dieses Restaurant wärmstens allen, die authentische griechische Gastfreundschaft und hervorragende Küche suchen. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolut empfehlenswert! Qualitiv hochwertiges und handwerklich perfekt zubereitetes Essen. Sehr guter Grieche.

Wer griechisches Essen mag, ist hier genau richtig.

Der beste Grieche weit und breit! Der Name mag täuschen, doch solch authentisch griechische Küche findet man selten. Es war alles unglaublich lecker, man sitzt gemütlich in einem angenehmen Licht, das ganze Ambiente lädt zum verweilen ein. Es fühlt sich einfach heimisch an. Die Service Kräfte sind sehr aufmerksam und auf Zack. Wir haben vieles aus der Karte bestellt und waren wunschlos glücklich! Es ist so gut, dass man einfach nicht aufhören kann zu essen.. die Weine sind ein Traum. Unsere Empfehlung ist der Oktopus, sowie die Babycalamaris naturgegrillt. Außerdem sind die Speisen aus der Saisonalen Karte einfach der Hammer! Die Nibelungenschänke beweist, dass Griechenland viel mehr zu bieten hat, als Gyros und Moussaka (was übrigens trotzdem ein schmäuschen ist), denn man wird kulinarisch überrascht und erhält geschmackliche Einblicke in die Kultur, die man selbst als gebürtiger Grieche sonst nur aus Omas Küche kennt und in Restaurants vergeblich sucht. Ein großes Lob, wir kommen immer wieder gerne!

Es ist ein ordentliches Restaurant

Großes Lob an Sakis und sein Team. Wir haben mal wieder vorzüglich geschmaust. Die Meze Vorspeisen wie gewohnt lecker. Das Lamm Karee war suuuuuper zart. Die anderen Gerichte waren ebenfalls schmackhaft, der Fisch einen Ticken drüber aber trotzdem gut. Kommen seit über 30 Jahren hier her.

Ein sehr gutes Restaurant - mit der kleinen Einschränkung, dass für Vegetarier nur ein Hauptgericht oder Salate und Vorspeisen geeignet sind. Service ist aufmerksam und sehr freundlich.

Zuerst vorab: Finde es super, dass hier keine Hunde reingelassen werden! Was Hundebesitzer manchmal verkennen, ist dass Ihr geliebter Vierbeiner nicht jeden beim Essen erfreut und manche Personen auch schlichtweg Angst vor Hunden haben- insbesondere Familien mit kleinen Kindern. So zum Restaurant: Essen ist top, Service super und man ist freundlich zu Kindern. Nicht ganz günstig, aber das sollte auch nicht der Anspruch sein, wenn man tolles Essen mit Top-Qualität möchte. Wir sind hier oft und gerne- und das wird vermutlich auch so bleiben.

Da wir in der Nähe des Ein-und Ausgangs saßen, haben wir an diesem kalten Tag sehr gefroren.

Nicht mal Hunde wurden reingelassen. Sonst bewerte ich Restaurants immer sehr gönnerisch, aber so sehr man sich bei diesem Restaurant anstrengt, es gut zu bewerten - es hat nicht geklappt. Bedienung sehr unfreundlich, Preise so hoch wie in 5 Sterne Restaurants in Dubai. Das Essen ist für diese Wucherpreise aber fatal. Preisleistungsverhältnis ist sehr schlecht. Außerdem klebten am Besteck noch Essensreste und es sah aus, als ob es nicht mal in der Spühlmaschine war, geschweige denn poliert. NICHT EMPFEHLENSWERT!!!!!

Wir waren am 29.12 zu einer kleinen Feier dort. Für uns neu, durfte der kleine 5kg Hund nicht ins Restaurant. Also bei 0 Grad ins Auto gesetzt. Auch wenn es sicherlich gute Gründe des Besitzers hierfür gibt, war es für uns unangenehm. In der Vergangenheit war der Hund öfters dabei. Dann folgte jedoch die eigentliche Enttäuschung. Durch die Hundeaktion bin ich als letztes zur Gesellschaft gekommen. Der Kellner hielt es nicht für nötig, mich nach einem Getränk zu fragen. Auch während des ganzen Besuches keine Nachfrage nach Getränken. Gesteigert wurde dies durch die Fetacreme der Vorspeise. Die war nicht mehr frisch und schmeckte dementsprechend bitter. Nach der Reklamation gab es keine Entschuldigung des Lokales, lediglich die Nachfrage ob ein Ersatz gewünscht wird. Dies haben wir abgelehnt. Das Restaurant hielt es ebenfalls nicht für nötig die Vorspeise zum Abzug auf der Rechnung zu bringen. Wir haben dies vollumfänglich bezahlt. Fazit: wir werden nicht mehr kommen.

Das Silvestermenue war wie schon die Jahre davor ein hervorragender kulinarischer Jahrsausklang. Herr Miliadis hat wiederr ein 6-Gänge-Menue gezaubert, bei dem man jeden Gang besonders hervorheben könnte. Service und Atmosphäre rundeten die köstlichen Speisen ab. Der Hauptgang war unübertroffen, sowohl das Rinderfilet meiner Frau als auch meine Lammlachse, beides raffiniert präsentiert mit tollen Beilagen. Wir werden - so es stattfindet - auch das Jahr 2026 mit dem Nibelungenschänkenmenue ausklingen lassen.

Essen hat geschmeckt, Portion für einen Mann nicht ganz ausreichend. Service war gut Preislich gehoben, Edelgrieche Wer Edelgrieche mag, ist hier richtig Wer wie ich, lieber den klassischen Griechen mag, mit einer Fleischplatte oder Teller und mit einem Ouzo danach, ist hier verkehrt

The garden is very beautiful. Unfortunately, the service hardly paid any attention to us and responded to questions and concerns in a disinterested and unfriendly manner. The food was on the plate quickly and tasty, but the value for money wasn't quite right. Unfortunately, 1 of 3 hot dishes were also cold. Given the prices and the reviews we had read before, we expected something different and were disappointed. But it's best to try it out yourself and gather your own impressions.

If you want to enjoy Greek food in an upscale setting, this is the place for you. Everything is a bit more expensive, but eating in the garden under the huge tree—in the middle of the city—is definitely something. There's no appetizer plate on the menu, but if you ask, they'll be happy to put one together for you. They're sparing on bread, which is good for those on a low-carb diet. The baby calamari were also delicious, and we don't need to say anything else about the rezina—except for the yamas.

The ambiance is pleasant both indoors and outdoors. In good weather, the courtyard is a pleasant place to sit, with a large maple tree in the middle, providing shade with its canopy. Wonderful and delicious Greek dishes are offered, with generous portions and side dishes to satisfy every guest. Friendly and very quick service.

The food wasn't tasty; the potatoes were very salty. We ordered extra sauce for our main course and asked the waiter again. It came immediately, but nothing came. It was so dark on the terrace that my uncle lost his wife. I can't recommend this place.

On June 8, 2025, we ate at this Greek restaurant for the first time – and it was simply fantastic! We are so happy to have finally found a good Greek restaurant. All the dishes on the table were incredibly delicious. My boyfriend kept saying how delicious everything was – and so was I, of course! We can't wait to try the other items on the menu. The restaurant was really busy, but still had a pleasant, calm atmosphere. We were particularly impressed by the extremely friendly and cleanly dressed waiters. We highly recommend it! For all the dishes on the table plus a large bottle of water, we paid a total of 63 euros. We highly recommend it! I love the Greeks ❤️

For me, the Niebelungenschänke is one of the most beautiful Greek restaurants in Frankfurt - and definitely one of my personal favorites! The restaurant exudes a warm, inviting atmosphere, and the idyllic courtyard in particular exudes a real holiday feeling in the middle of the city. The mezes are varied and consistently delicious, and the main courses are also very well portioned and prepared with a lot of love. You can tell that quality and hospitality come first here. Special praise goes to the owner, who runs the restaurant with great warmth and commitment. During a visit with my baby, she looked after us lovingly, so that I was even able to eat in peace - that's not something to be taken for granted and I remember it very positively. A place where you feel completely at home – both culinary and human. Absolutely recommended!

Very very tasty and super friendly service

I was here last summer and the place has a wonderful, pleasant terrace. I ordered a steak, it tasted good. We were some of the youngest guests here (<30), the majority that day were over 50. The waitress sometimes gave us strange looks and generally behaved strangely, which I didn't understand. It may be that this is a Greek restaurant, but the staff are almost exclusively Romanian, as I found out - which, in my opinion, loses some of its authenticity.

We had dinner there with friends and felt completely at home. The atmosphere invites you to linger and the food was excellent. The service was also very friendly. We would love to come back. We also wish this restaurant much success.

Very tasty food, the price is perfectly appropriate for the quality of the food. Compared to other Greek restaurants, the portions here are much larger for the price. 25 years later... We then went to the Nibelungen Schänke again, probably one of the fanciest Greek restaurants in Mainhattan since the renovation in 2021/2022. Great interior, super comfortable, the Greeks are years ahead of us when it comes to design, which we always remembered positively when we traveled to the land of antiquity two decades ago. Although the restaurant was full to capacity on Boxing Day, the friendly staff had this under control at all times. At the Greek Gyros League, you tend to overfill the table with lots of plates, but here you wouldn't even think of it, the menu reads like a fine dine holiday on Santorini and in the end it was exactly the result, this culinary one Excursion to an Olympus of the Greek gastronomic scene. The olive oil served separately in a small bowl with home-baked bread, which also contained the fruit, was a perfect start. Obligatory a Hellas salad, with which you can go wrong, but not here. Tomatoes, olives, cucumbers and the excellent feta certainly didn't come from the discounter, the tzatziki was one of the best since our trip to Paleochora/Crete last May. The baby calamari is a tongue-in-cheek, the Bifteki is terrific. Both accompanied by crunchy vegetables and the traditional sliced ​​potatoes, which you obviously chop yourself. The Sauvignon Blanc from Espenhof in Rheinhessen was so delicious and at a great temperature that we immediately ordered a box from Flonheim. A marzipan-like white wine to crown a successful trip to the Nordend. Clear recommendation. Nothing is forgotten here. A top Greek from Frankfurt!

Having to wait over 90 minutes for the main courses because “takeaway food” was always preferred a no go towards the guests in the restaurant! The ambience suffered from the constant coming and going of customers who were milling about in front of the counter just behind the entrance to pick up their food. Constant door after door closing. The service, nice and friendly, was overwhelmed because it was completely let down by the kitchen because the kitchen's statements about when the food would finally be served were simply not correct. The side dishes for individual dishes were sometimes not served straight away, were only brought after a long time or were sometimes simply forgotten, despite repeated instructions. Conclusion: Disappointing! Last year we had to accept unusual compromises and thought it was a one-off. But yesterday evening was simply an increase in a negative sense. What a shame!

We like to go to the Nibelungenschänke regularly. Yesterday (December 24th, 2024) it was that time again... Unfortunately this time it was very disappointing because: 1. The service was simply bad. We (4 people) had ordered different dishes and asked that everything be served together at the same time. But unfortunately that wasn't the case. For example, side dishes came first and the actual dish came much later 😕 2. Some of the food wasn't good. The fried sheep's cheese, for example, was "rock hard". We have to return it. The Bifteki was okay but nothing special. ☹️ 3. The prices were very high. Both with the dishes and especially with the drinks. Fine dining has its price - okay. But this time the price-performance ratio is not right at all 😟 So 'All in all' - a very disappointing visit with plenty of room for improvement.😯☹️

DISCRIMINATION OF DISABLED PEOPLE!!! I wanted to go out to eat there with my assistance dog and my family on December 22nd, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. (for which I had reserved weeks in advance). As soon as I entered the restaurant I was intercepted and told to please go out with the dog as dogs are prohibited. I pointed out that my dog ​​is an assistance dog and referred to §12e BGG. So I went ahead and sat down with my family at the table assigned to us. The table was at the very end in a corner. I put my dog's blanket on the floor, where he immediately lay down and slept. After 2-3 minutes the owner came and told us to leave the restaurant because dogs were not allowed. I also explained to him that it was an assistance dog, but he wasn't interested. He referred to a waitress who was allergic to dogs. I said that I could understand this, but my dog ​​lays on my blanket and the waitress doesn't come into contact with my dog. The owner didn't even listen to me anymore, he just kept repeating that we had to leave the restaurant. However, there were 2 waitresses, so I asked if it was possible for the other waitress to serve us. Unfortunately, the other waitress couldn't serve us because she didn't speak German. We went and informed the police, due to the discrimination, who also agreed with me 100% that even if one of two waitresses is allergic to dogs, I cannot be refused entry to the restaurant. The police then wanted to speak by telephone to the owner, who was hiding in the kitchen and the waitresses said he had just left the restaurant. The police then spoke to the waitress by telephone, but she continued to refuse entry. The police informed a patrol who was then supposed to come to the restaurant. My family and I waited for 20 minutes and were told that a third waitress who could speak German would come at 4:30 p.m., but we were still refused entry. After another 20 minutes, I decided to leave the restaurant with my family because the police would certainly have better things to do and we were very hungry. We ended up leaving the restaurant without eating, even though we were legally allowed to eat there, but the owner didn't show any insight despite calling the police. Very disappointing that discrimination against disabled people is so radical in this restaurant!

Best Greek restaurant I tried! The grilled octopus is fresh tender and each plate is tasty and typical Greek cuisine! I go every year for work and I always stop there and the waiter recognise me every time:)

Of course everything has become more expensive, but if the price-performance ratio isn't right, you won't eat there again. There was the obligatory oil dip with warm baguette slices, but that can't justify the price of the entire dish. What was on the plate was very manageable. The bifteki, filled with cheese that you could almost only guess at, wasn't small, but the side dishes were certainly something that even the plate was ashamed of. About 15 small pieces of vegetables, yes pieces, of various kinds, almost cold, were spread carelessly on the plate. Another side dish was about 10 small potato slices, which came out of the bag pre-made and frozen and were quickly fried. Homemade potatoes look and taste different. Ajvar or similar and also onions were missed. You can't think of a salad at all, and that for just under €23, without a drink. You don't have to go there again, everything has decreased quite a bit compared to earlier times.

Price/performance doesn't fit. Very small menu, but nothing made of the dishes. My dish actually didn't taste good at all. My husband and mother's food tasted okay, but nothing more.

One of my favorite Greek restaurants. It's delicious and the atmosphere is good. It's always quite crowded, so reservations are recommended. There is an English menu, but seasonal menus are only in German. Dessert was also delicious.

We've been coming here for years. We had reserved a table. When we arrived we were told there would be limited table availability. You would now have a two-shift system. The 2nd SHIFT begins at 8:15 p.m. Nobody told us that on the phone. We had just paid when a group of men stormed in and almost knocked us over. Thanks, we don't need that.

I would give minus one star for the service. It's only passable if there's a man sitting at the table. For the prices I expect courteous service. The acoustics are very bad, you have to shout at each other to be heard. The female service person was the bright spot of the location.

By invitation in the Nibelungen Schänke, visually a very nice restaurant, service friendly but still has room for improvement when it comes to details. Card small but nice and quite versatile. Food is visually very appealing and very tasty, large portions of the main courses. The only "but" is the pricing, as it is - in my opinion - very expensive for a Greek restaurant. On my last visit to the north of Frankfurt, I decided to eat at the Nibelungenschänke again after a long time. The choice fell on a traditional Greek restaurant that is known in the city as a gastronomic Greek veteran - and rightly so! On the occasion of our national holiday we had traditional bakaliaros, a desalted cod, served with a delicious garlic mashed potato. This dish was my highlight for my/our national holiday. The ambience in the restaurant was welcoming and stylish, with a pleasant crowd which further enriched the atmosphere. Particularly noteworthy is the attentiveness of the landlord and his team, whose hospitality and attentiveness ensured that you felt completely comfortable. An exceptionally good and upscale Greek! I loved the food, we had lots of different starters. Grilled octopus and feta are particularly recommended. Wonderful atmosphere and very nice and attentive service staff.

Wow, we were very positively surprised by the quality of the dishes! Clear recommendation, we also really liked the ambience. You should definitely reserve in advance.

A really nice restaurant, modern decor, everything looks new and stylish. The service is very friendly, but not everyone speaks German fluently, which isn't a problem if you speak slower. The only criterion may be the high prices, but they are completely acceptable.

Very nice restaurant. staff Very nice and friendly. Everything came quickly. Served Starter good. I've had better main courses. I had gyros with me potato slices And tzatziki. The meat had cartilage that I can't handle and then it was too fatty. I know this as lean meat Lightly fried. The dessert was my favorite Really tasty. I should have eaten Lamhaxe or Dorate. This should be delicious.

Christmas dinner with the family on December 26th, 2023. Beautiful Christmas atmosphere with chic decorations. There was goose with red cabbage, dumplings and chestnuts with a fried apple. Absolutely recommendable in terms of quality and quantity. The goose was very crispy and had no fat at all. Great wines with good advice from the service. In general, the service at the Nibelungenschänke is really nice and accommodating. You feel really welcome here as a guest. In my opinion the most beautiful and best Greek in Frankfurt. Always my pleasure.

The New Year's Eve menu was once again unsurpassed, from the greetings from the kitchen to the dessert made from cleverly prepared ingredients. The main course, the rack of lamb, was a culinary delight. Everything was served to us in a friendly manner, a worthy end to the year. Many thanks to the whole team.

Sehr gute Überraschung: gemütliches Ambiente, die Gerichte waren alle sehr gut zubereitet und haben hervorragend geschmeckt. Portionen sind genau richtig. Die Preise sind angemessen (obwohl die Weine etwas günstiger sein könnten, insbesondere die Weingläser). Das Service war effizient und wir haben nicht lange auf die Gerichte gewartet. Sehr gerne wieder.

Wir sind spontan zum Essen gekommen und haben einen Platz für acht bekommen. Zwar zeitlich begrenzt, aber Freitag Abends ist das nicht verwunderlich und spricht für das Restaurant. Das Essen selbst war sehr gut, der Service sehr aufmerksam und freundlich. Das Ambiente ist schick und sehr stimmig gestaltet. Preislich liegen die Gerichte im oberen Mittelfeld; Geschmacklich darüber, daher ist auch das Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis sehr gut.
