We had a wonderful visit to the nail smithy in the Harz! The food was excellent, especially the venison goulash – perfectly prepared and simply delicious. A big compliment also to the service: Pascal was extremely attentive and professional, he really made our visit special. An additional highlight was that we were able to charge our e-bike batteries without any problems - that was very practical! All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable stay, we'll definitely be back!

A lot of wood and the old walls have been beautifully renovated. Small detail: Each table has its own wardrobe. 😉 The staff are very nice and attentive without being intrusive. After a hike, our group of 8 people wanted cold and hot drinks and perhaps a snack. Luckily one of the outside tables became free and we all fit at this table (they're not wide). As we sat down we were told in a nasty tone that this table is actually only allowed for 6 people. Then she left again and we were left irritated at first. Since they obviously don't depend on paying customers to welcome them with friendliness, we left again. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about German regulations, but about the way guests are treated there. You can see that in other reviews too. Too bad.

Idyll meets culinary... Great restaurant in a cozy atmosphere... the aromatic smell of cooking from the walk lured us into the living room. My husband and I are holiday regulars and come here not only because of the excellent, creative cuisine, but also because it is a pleasure to be accompanied through the evening by a motivated and service-oriented team. A reservation is recommended.

You open the door and are immediately greeted with a wonderful ambience. 😍 We had reserved beforehand, which is recommended as it is very busy (and rightly so!) Our waiter for the evening was Eric and he was simply our hero that evening. Great recommendations and a lot of fun, especially not intrusive. Class! A wonderful place After receiving a very unfriendly welcome at a nearby hotel, we ended up in this café by chance. What a difference. A very great atmosphere with a very nice terrace right on the water, a very nice menu and impeccable, very friendly service saved our day. We had apple pie with cream and a blueberry pie. Both really wonderful. We would love to come back. Many thanks to the entire team especially to the young waiter who served us.

We always enjoy coming here. The ambience is great. You can hike before or after. The service has never disappointed and I've never had anything to complain about the food. Even the outdoor area is always well maintained and has never seemed at all untidy, even though the restaurant is located directly on/in the forest.

A few weeks ago we spontaneously went out to eat at Nagelschmiede. We received a very friendly welcome and a table was found for the two of us even without making a reservation. We were immediately impressed by the cozy nail smithy, which was designed with attention to detail. In addition to the excellent food, we can praise the extremely friendly and professional service. We felt incredibly comfortable and would love to come back.

Man wird herzlichst empfangen und kann bei bestem Wetter, bestem Service im tollen Ambiente der Nagelschmiede in Ilsenburg einen rundum gelungenen Abend verbringen. Hier wurde von vorne bis hinten an alles gedacht. Ein tolles Team, was gemeinsam hinter einem tollen Konzept steht und ein Essen, was seinesgleichen sucht. Eine absolute Top Adresse für ein tolles kulinarisches Erlebnis im Harz! Die Nagelschmiede in Ilsenburg lässt keine Wünsche unerfüllt, und einen willkommen und jederzeit wohlfühlen. We have now been guests at this restaurant several times. The two owners run the restaurant with so much passion and love, you can feel it throughout the entire restaurant. The decoration, the service and the food are simply stunning. Thank you for the lovely evenings with you.

Food: Schnitzel without lemon and not visibly beaten. Breading not airy. Side dishes OK, but nothing special either. A scoop of fiery strawberry sorbee with chillies. I like spicy food, but the combination doesn't really work. I wouldn't recommend it. Service: A service person so unfriendly that you would like to get up and leave. Were looked after by several waiters and the other service staff were polite. Ambience: Nice hipster atmosphere. Terrace by the lake is pretty, but was closed. They don't accept visas either. Card payment only with EC.

Currywurst 16 euros and service was quite harsh...we had to put a carrier bag for our small 3kg dog and nothing was said to other customers with large dogs

Delicious food and great ambience

Very fine food: perfectly fried, super seasoned, perfectly balanced! The price is absolutely reasonable (not much more expensive than in the surrounding area - but much higher quality).

During our short trip to the Harz, we came to Nagelschmiede for dinner. We were a group of 8 people, 2 of whom were regulars of the place - locals (not tourists). Visually a beautiful restaurant, both outside and inside. The entire presentation, right down to the cloth napkins and the menu, suggest a high level. So we had corresponding expectations. The first disappointment came when the Hefeweizen we ordered turned out to be a Kellerbier and the waiter continued to insist that it was a wheat beer. The next disappointment came when the wrong starter was served. However, for reasons of sustainability, it was still eaten. 3 of us ordered the beef steak, but at different cooking levels (medium-rare and medium). A young man (the trainee) served the dishes. When I was told that different cooking levels had been ordered and which was the right one, all I received was a shrug of the shoulders and a sound that is difficult to describe. In a “how am I supposed to know” kind of way. The three companions then cut the steaks themselves and the plates were then swapped. The steaks, which were supposed to be medium rare, were unfortunately overcooked, i.e. dry and sometimes even flaxy. The steak, which was ordered medium-rare, was at least medium. There was also a vegetable skewer (mostly eggplant, bah), potatoes and sour cream. Side dishes were at least okay. You could say that this is complaining at a high level. But: with a 35 € meal (here in the tourist hotspot of Passau, for that money I get a fillet of beef of the very finest and at the level of cooking ordered) the guest can and should expect a corresponding service. This was not the case here! The really disappointing thing, however, was that there was no accommodation from the service staff (e.g. a round of drinks on the house) and the boss refused to speak to us (too busy in the kitchen and already at an advanced hour). We were also portrayed as if it were our own fault and that we could have let it go back. But in a group you want to eat together and not separately because the cook doesn't know the cooking levels. The service staff seemed to us to be overwhelmed by the situation, they obviously had no decision-making authority and their boss left them alone with the situation. We also noticed the strange vibes in the team mentioned in another review! The working atmosphere doesn't seem to be the best. Our conclusion: More appearance than reality! Performance does not match the price! And since we are only tourists, our impression was probably not that important, the main thing is that the bill is paid. We'll come back to Ilsenburg - but definitely not to the nail smithy anymore!

Really delicious food, especially the gnocchi, which is highly recommended. The waiter did everything he could to speak English so that we could understand him. We will definitely come back again.

We went to this great restaurant with our family at the weekend. From the first minute we were looked after excellently by the staff and spoiled with culinary delights. The great combinations of the daily offers are second to none. One of the best restaurants in the area. We'd love to come back!

Wir kommen seit Jahren nach Ilsenburg und steuern gezielt zum Abendessen die „Nagelschmiede“ an. Entsprechend der tollen Speisekarte zaubern die dortigen Köche im Verborgenen ein sehr schmackhaftes Essen, immer frisch zubereitet und sehr gut präsentiert. Wir haben noch nicht erlebt, dass vom Küchenchef Fertigprodukte eingesetzt werden. Wir waren wieder am 11.08.2024 und haben das Schnitzel vom Apfelschwein ausgewählt. Da wir mit unseren Kindern ein eigenes Restaurant hatten und dort aktiv mitgearbeitet haben, können wir die Qualität der Zubereitung der Speisen bewerten und schätzen sie als sehr gut ein. Die Panade bestand z.B. aus selbst produziertem Semmelmehr und die Schnitzel waren mit hoher Sicherheit in Butterschmalz gebraten. Das Servicepersonal ist sehr aufmerksam, umsichtig und kümmert sich liebevoll um die Gäste. Ob man im Restaurant oder auf den Terrassen sitzt, das Ambiente ist einfach idyllisch. Wir können dieses Restaurant zu 100 % weiterempfehlen und werden bei Aufenthalten in Ilsenburg auch zukünftig dort essen. Wir wünschen dem Team immer verständnisvolle Gäste für diesen sehr schönen, aber auch körperlich anspruchsvollen Job.

Food was good but not exactly cheap either. For groups of 12 or more people there is an extra menu with 4 dishes. The selection was therefore not large. Otherwise, the restaurant is beautifully located in the Ilsetal.

It was wonderful, I've never been to a better restaurant, I can only recommend it. The service was great as was the food.

Beware of the boss! The price-performance ratio in the nail smithy is not right either way. The schnitzel costs €22 and is prepared to the level of an apprentice chef. It's homemade, but doesn't taste like a homemade schnitzel. Any hobby cook could do it better and, as I said, we're not talking about a €15 schnitzel here. A skewer of soft and mushy fried vegetables was served with the schnitzel. The pulled pork burger was prepared well, but it just didn't taste good. But tastes are different. I would give the nail smith 3 stars up to this point, but the best is yet to come... The waitress asked us whether we liked the food. We then explained the points just mentioned. The waitress took note of everything and passed it on to the kitchen. The boss/cook then came up like a madman with the plate on which the schnitzel was lying and said “It’s a disgrace that we would rate HIS schnitzel like that”. He shouted at us and all the guests witnessed his outburst. After we couldn't even speak in shock and fear, he stormed back into the kitchen and shouted: “This is an outrage! Don’t ever come back!” Such behavior is not acceptable at all! I think the dear owner has forgotten that the guests keep his shop running and if you ask for the guests' opinion then you should be able to deal with the truth. He's definitely not open to criticism. The food was really nothing special. So I recommend you not to go to the nail smithy and if you still want to pay this lovely person a visit, please tell the boss your honest opinion about the food. He will be happy...

Wir waren im Rahmen eines Familientreffens mit 10 Personen in der Nagelschmiede und restlos begeistert. Angefangen vom tollen, zuvorkommenden und freundlichen Personal über das wunderschöne Ambiente bis hin zum unglaublich leckeren Essen, welches mit Liebe zubereitet, in großen Portionen und von top Qualität sehr ansprechend angerichtet serviert wurde. Wir haben selten ein solch großartiges Restaurant erlebt. Somit haben wir am nächsten Abend eine bestehende Reservierung im anderen Restaurant storniert und sind noch einmal in die Nagelschmiede eingekehrt. Vielen Dank für zwei wunderbare Abende!

Zu dritt waren wir in diesem schönen und urigen Restaurant und haben einen wirklich unvergesslichen Abend erlebt. Die Servicekräfte waren überaus zuvorkommend, freundlich, dabei nicht aufdringlich, mit dem Schuss Humor, der ein Augenzwinkern hervorruft, dabei absolut professionell. Das Essen war gut zubereitet, schmackhaft, sehr zurückhaltend gewürzt und liebevoll angerichtet. Wir hatten Geflügel, Currywurst und Matjesfilet und waren restlos zufrieden. Die Krönung waren die Desserts: Feurig fruchtiges Erdbeerparfait ( mit einem Hauch von Chili), Crème Brulée sowie marinierte Erdbeeren mit Vanilleeis und Schlagsahne. Den ganzen Abend kann ich mit Fug und Recht als Gesamtkunstwerk bezeichnen.

Passing through the Harz for a family vacation, we chose to spend our last evening at the Nagelschmiede and were delighted! The place is magnificent, simple, warm and elegant, the decoration, like the food, refined. We recommend the place. The service is perfect, the servers very pleasant and attentive (special mention to Erik) Children are welcome, there is a play area for them.

Top location. Beautifully designed inside and out. Fine cuisine with a diverse menu, menu suggestions and great wines. Plus a great service with competent advice. All of this at fair prices.

We ate at Nagelschmiede on Sunday July 21st, 2024. It's actually been one of our favorite restaurants for years. But after Sunday this changed and we will no longer visit the restaurant. The explanation why follows later. First of all, I would like to say that it was in no way due to the quality of the food or the service staff. Both were very good, as always. The only drawback is the disproportionately high price of €39 for a pork chop with side dishes. Although this was really tasty, the price is definitely not justified! I also doubt that the cutlet weighed 300g before it was prepared (I come from the catering industry myself and can therefore estimate it well). Now to the actual point. On that day we wanted to redeem a voucher that was limited to one year (our voucher had already exceeded the year due to personal reasons). However, according to the Federal Code, this is not legal. I was told several times that we could no longer redeem the voucher because it had already been settled for tax purposes. This is also not legal, as a voucher can only be offset against tax once it has been redeemed or 3 years have passed. Unfortunately there was no accommodation. The only thing we were offered was a schnapps or coffee on the house, which we understandably declined. We were more than served!!! Finally, I would like to say that we have contacted our legal protection insurance and a lawyer will be taking over the case. It's a shame that you treat regular guests this way and don't look for any solutions and just dismiss them.

Wir waren am Sonntag den 21.07.2024 in der Nagelschmiede essen. Eigentlich ist es schon seit Jahren eines unser Lieblingsrestaurant's. Nach dem Sonntag hat sich dies aber geändert und wir werden das Lokal nicht mehr besuchen. Später folgt die Erklärung warum. Vorab möchte ich sagen, dass es keinesfalls an der Qualität der Speisen und auch nicht am Service Personal lag. Beides war wie immer sehr gut. Einziges Manko ist, der unverhältnismäßig hohe Preis von 39€ für ein Schweinekotelett mit Beilagen. Dies war zwar wirklich lecker, aber der Preis ist definitiv nicht gerechtfertigt! Zudem bezweifle ich, dass das Kotelett 300g wog vor der Zubereitung (komme selber aus der Gastronomie und kann es daher gut einschätzen). Jetzt zum eigentlichen Punkt. Wir wollten an dem Tag einen Gutschein einlösen, der auf ein Jahr beschränkt war (unser Gutschein hatte das Jahr durch private Gründe aber schon überschritten). Laut dem Bundesgesetzbuch ist dies aber nicht rechtens. Mir wurde mehrfach gesagt, dass wir den Gutschein nicht mehr einlösen können, da dieser Steuerlich schon abgerechnet sei. Dies ist auch nicht rechtens, da ein Gutschein erst steuerlich abgerechnet werden kann, wenn dieser eingelöst oder 3 Jahre überschritten sind. Leider gab es kein Entgegenkommen. Das einzige was uns angeboten wurde war ein Schnaps oder Kaffee aufs Haus, den wir verständlicherweise abgelehnt haben. Wir waren mehr als bedient!!! Zum Abschluss möchte ich noch sagen, dass wir unsere Rechtsschutzversicherung eingeschaltet haben und ein Anwalt den Fall übernehmen wird. Schade, dass man so mit Stammgästen umgeht und keinerlei Lösungen sucht und nur abwiegelt.

We wanted to end a nice day of hiking with our family with a nice meal. With our 2 dogs we chose an outside spot next to the front door. We put our dogs in the corner and they immediately began to sleep. Another dog owner let his dog go to ours without asking. Our male dog then jumped out barking. I was able to hold him by the harness and put him back in the corner. There was no apology from the other dog owner, but there was an angry statement from the waitress that the flower had now been broken. There were 2 stems that had broken off. This was also expressed angrily from within. Shortly afterwards, someone who absolutely had to sweep it up immediately came right in front of our peacefully sleeping dog. (Could have done it after we left). Then the question was whether the door had also been damaged. When I pointed out that only my little finger was injured, there was no comment. In the end we weren't served afterwards. All tables, including those who arrived later, were allowed to order before us, received a greeting from the kitchen and their food in front of us. We, on the other hand, had to wait 1 hour for our food. We felt very uncomfortable and so our lovely family day came to an annoying end. It's a shame that you were treated so disrespectfully and unprofessionally. We would have preferred that people honestly say that they are unwanted. Oh yes, the dog owners who caused this were served courteously. Never again!!!! The owner's answer can be seen as a photo. We've been taking our dogs to restaurants for years and nothing like this has ever happened to us. It was extremely humbling and we had already considered eating elsewhere. Only we had already paid. It is a no-go among dog owners to let a dog with other dogs without asking and just because the other dog didn't bark, you, as an apparently non-dog owner, cannot blame one of them. Since I prevented my dog ​​from getting to the other one, I wouldn't describe him as not having his dogs under control. The degrading treatment by the staff because of two torn flower stalks was so excessive that we were speechless and unable to say anything. Or rather, I offered to pay for the “damage”. Since I wasn't given the bill, I can't say whether that didn't happen. The treatment was excessive, degrading and unprofessional!!!! Then please do not allow noisy children or dogs.

An excellent evening at the nail smithy. The service is very professional and the food is simply top notch. We always enjoy coming to this wonderful place. Thank you.

The restaurant is nicely located, but we were seated at a "cat table" despite having ordered in advance. You couldn't change seats and it was uncomfortable. The staff did not respond to the wishes and needs and was rather forced to be friendly. Other guests were treated much better and more favorably, even though we left a lot of money there. The food was way too average for the price. We had high hopes, but in the end we just felt unwelcome with a very average meal. We won't go here again.

Except for the prices, absolutely beautiful and very tasty. The service was incredibly nice.

Very great restaurant. The town of Ilsenburg is very sleepy and the nail smithy stands out positively. The restaurant is beautifully designed and of a high standard. The same applies to the food and the service. Both are absolutely top and recommended. If you are in the area you should definitely pay the nail smithy a visit.

We had a very harmonious dinner here with the family. The food was delicious and the service was extremely friendly and accommodating. Only the homemade lemonade wasn't convincing. We sat outside on the terrace near the reservoir, so the children were also kept busy and had something to look at. The seating arrangement in an old sleigh was a bit disturbing (I think). Some seats had no backrest and some had you sitting over a crossbar. We will definitely come back and can recommend the nail smithy without hesitation.
