MS Bootshaus Rodenkirchen Gastro GmbH in Köln

We went to the MS Bootshaus restaurant on Christmas Eve, just the two of us, and had hoped for at least a somewhat festive atmosphere, including some music. While there were some Christmas decorations, the music was completely unsuitable for us: mostly pop and electronic music. This was the main reason we left the restaurant very early, practically right after dinner. We had endured a long train journey and waiting times of over 2.5 hours for the round trip to the Bootshaus on KVB lines 18 and 16, hoping for a nice Christmas meal. Unfortunately, it was all for nothing. The service, however, was very good, friendly, and quick. The food (roast goose leg with sides and tagliatelle with turkey strips) was reasonably priced, but unfortunately not very impressive. The roast goose leg was quite tough, and the turkey strips were very bland.

Beautiful place, really nice food and good portion sizs, service was amazing. Plus it's on the river. Best place to eat!!! Highly recommend this restaurant, just bring cash as cards aren't accepted.

The ship in Rodenkirchen is the one furthest from the shore, giving it a real boating feel. The food is simple but fresh and delicious. The service is attentive and friendly, the ambiance simple and rustic. If you're looking for something fancy, this isn't the place for you.

Very nice location and good food

A wonderfully relaxed location, and quite literally right on the Rhine! You sit on a securely moored ship, surrounded by water and gentle waves. The kitchen offers solid, honest classics. The Wiener Schnitzel is truly outstanding. The service is friendly and attentive without being intrusive. A particularly magical moment: the sunset behind the Rodenkirchen Bridge, its light bathing the entire ship in warm colors. In moments like these, you almost feel like you're in a scene from Lord of the Rings – a touch of adventure and tranquility all at once. Highly recommended.

Unlike the other floating restaurants nearby, this one is actually a real boat! Attentive, fast service in a maritime atmosphere with lots of wood. Belgian waffles are the specialty here. In summer, you can enjoy the various outdoor seating areas and watch the shipping traffic on the Rhine and the small marina.

We got a nice table for a family celebration at very short notice. The service was very friendly, the food delicious, and the portions generous. The food prices are very fair, and the drinks are just like anywhere else in Cologne. Cash only. When the weather's nice, you can sit outside.

One evening I had dinner on the MS Bootshaus. The Bootshaus Café Restaurant is one of several on the Rhine. Everything was okay, but nothing special that I could/should give 5 stars. The food was okay, but not a culinary explosion. The beer was delicious, as always in Cologne. The service was okay, but not particularly enthusiastic. And the atmosphere was just nice by the water. So everything was good, but not a highlight.

A Rhine boat moored on the banks of the Rhine with a fantastic view of the Rhine and the Rodenkirchen Rhine shore... Highly recommended, especially in the evenings when the weather is warm! Great, plentiful dishes and a good selection of drinks... The service is also very good, although you do have to wait a bit when the place is full – but that's bearable, as the staff are still very nice, friendly, and helpful! The prices for drinks and food are also relatively reasonable for a Rhine boat! We'd be happy to come back! Tip: If the weather is good, reserve a table in advance! 🥰 👍 👍 And ATTENTION: No card payments accepted on the boat!!!

Simple cuisine with a very limited menu. But we (three people) were more than satisfied with the schnitzel with chanterelles and the chef's salad. The prices were very reasonable, which was especially noticeable given the great location. The focus on a small menu probably makes this possible. It's all very cramped, but that creates a nice, cozy atmosphere. The owners and staff are very friendly and attentive. A fantastic location on this old ship; you can watch the boat traffic up close. A must-try experience.

A nice restaurant to stop off at. The menu is manageable and typical of an excursion restaurant, waffles and schnitzel. But alternatives are also offered. The food is plentiful and delicious. The service is attentive. The location in the Rhine with a view of the river, bridge and old church is outstanding. On hot days the breeze from the river cools you down. On sunny weekends it is busy and there may be waiting times.

Unfortunately, we've been disappointed yet again. We wanted to give the restaurant another chance, but the food was once again bad. Our complaint was met with unfriendly and rude behavior. Definitely: never again."

The boat restaurant is located on the Rhine in Rodenkirchen. From here, you have a fantastic view across the Rhine to Cologne and can watch the ships sailing by. We had waffles, which were delicious. The service was very friendly. It was just very busy, so it took a little longer to get served.

The décor and atmosphere suggest it hasn’t been updated or properly cared for in years, which takes away any potential appeal. The food is disappointing: waffles with poor presentation and portions so small they feel more like samples. Drinks are equally underwhelming in both taste and size. Service is friendly, and the staff try to be attentive, but professionalism is lacking. The biggest red flag is that they don’t accept card payments. Years ago, one might excuse this as Germany being slower to adopt modern payment methods, but in 2025 there is no reasonable explanation. It leaves the impression that this business might not be entirely above board. Overall, it’s not a place I can recommend. There are far better options for both quality and trustworthiness.

The ambiance is truly wonderful...we've been "lucky" several times now to have had a bad meal and encountered some service that was either very unfriendly or overwhelmed...direct criticism of the restaurant was ignored...we were regulars and had heard this criticism many times before.

We went spontaneously and still got a table. The location is quaint, quite special. The service was very friendly and accommodated our special requests. The food came relatively quickly. It was also delicious, with very generous portions. The only criticism I would have is that the Wiener Schnitzel was a bit tough for me, but otherwise it was very tasty. The prices are also totally reasonable.

Just right for a summer evening

It was truly very pleasant. The food is simple...but delicious...the service is friendly. Sure, you sit on chairs and there isn't much space outside at the side tables... But honestly, the whole ambiance is really cozy... A place that is truly authentic and makes you feel like you're in another world. The relaxation and the feeling of being in a special place...enjoying the boats and everything that passes by on the Rhine. I sat at the side table facing the Rhine... It really wasn't a "disaster," but rather a great idea to visit this place. The price and quality are also very good. You don't feel like a tourist... instead, you have the feeling of being somehow safe and familiar with this "boat." I'm sure I'll get even better at this place with dear friends... Simply an honest and natural place to spend a part of your life there, enjoying some meaningful time. It's wonderful that I was able to experience this loving, slightly rusting boat. I'll be back...as they say in Cologne, "old love never rusts."

The MS Rodenkirchen is a wonderful place to spend time. The staff is friendly, the food is excellent, and the value for money is more than reasonable. It's also great for kids to watch the ships, boats, and jet skis. We'll definitely be back!

Good food at fair prices with a great view

The best view in all of Cologne. Great sunsets. Relaxed atmosphere. Very friendly and welcoming service. Good prices. You just feel at home here. Love the location.

The food was okay. Definitely decent for the price. The organization was terrible. We had reserved a table outside for 10 people about two months ago. We later changed the reservation to nine. When we arrived, we were seated at a table designed for a maximum of six. According to the staff, it could accommodate 10 people. Definitely 10 children, but never 10 adults! So, four of us each squeezed onto a bench, and for the ninth person, we had to argue with the staff about whether they could put another chair in the aisle. Unfortunately, this really spoiled the atmosphere. The lack of space was particularly unpleasant during the meal. We will avoid another visit ;)

We didn't eat anything here, but just killed time with a few drinks. Great atmosphere and very friendly staff. The boat is a great place to be in the current weather. ;)

Honestly! One of the best locations in Cologne in summer!

I was a DJ at a wedding there. I also played with a guitarist at the reception. The wedding guests and the couple were great. ACTUALLY the place was really great too!! The owner/manager of the place in particular was great. But ONE lady behind the bar was really borderline. Absolutely ANY contact between her and me was either completely ignored or met with a rolling of the eyes or a condescending comment. I have no idea what I did to her but she was downright nasty. What a shame. The rest of the waiters were really nice. But I didn't really notice them either. That's because DJs are almost always forgotten during service.

You should definitely overlook the unfriendly lady at the cash register at the counter (you only pay at the table!!!, what kind of service did you have?). The always running waitresses were great! The MS Bootshaus Rodenkirchen is a cozy boathouse with great home-style food. It's super tasty and you have a huge portion on your plate that can satisfy everyone. The staff is friendly and very attentive. A music event with strong disco music often takes place in the adjacent hall on weekends. Simply put, the boathouse has a lot to offer in Rodenkirchen. Just great!!!!!!!

Disappointing visit to the Rodenkirchen boathouse – definitely not a place for special occasions Today I was at the boathouse in Rodenkirchen with three other people to celebrate my birthday in a relaxed atmosphere over lunchtime. Unfortunately, our visit was disappointing in almost every way - from the atmosphere to the service to the quality of the food. We had reserved a table in advance. However, the reception from the staff was anything but warm. You felt more tolerated than welcome - no friendly word, no smile, but a rather listless reference to our table. Right at the beginning there was the first big annoyance: the starter I ordered was simply forgotten. An apology, no follow-up - just ignored. And this at a birthday dinner where you hope for a minimum of attention. The main courses also left a lot to be desired. What may once have been solid cuisine is now just below average. Carelessly prepared dishes, flat in taste, sometimes served lukewarm. The drinks seemed stale and stale - whether the beer was opened the day before is anyone's guess, it wouldn't surprise me. The “service” was the last straw towards the end: although we still had drinks on the table and wanted to order more, the bill was brought to us without warning - clearly they wanted to get rid of us. As if that wasn't rude enough, they also actively tried to "sell" us a dessert beforehand. This wasn't meant in a friendly way, but rather seemed like a desperate attempt to increase sales a little. The bottom line is that this visit was a bitter disappointment - particularly annoying since I actually wanted to make this day a pleasant one. The Rodenkirchen boathouse was completely the wrong choice. The store may have been recommended in the past - today I can only strongly advise against it. Service poor, food below average, atmosphere cool and impersonal. It was definitely the last time for us.

Parts of the order were forgotten, the plate was snatched away from under your nose and when you said no to the question of whether you wanted to order dessert, you were given the bill without being asked. We didn't even have one drunk. It's a shame, that used to be better

After a very disappointed evening 6 months ago, we went to "Helmut" 2 weeks ago just for drinks and were very pleased: new staff! Friendly, attentive and very funny when there was something unclear. We then reserved a table for dinner yesterday: it was another lovely evening! The food is always good - but with this great staff...We will come back here more often!

A nice, rustic and cozy location with coffee and cake and also a menu. Incidentally, it is the only restaurant on the Rhine, south of the Rodenkirchener Bridge, that has a ship's hull; the others are set on pontoons.

It's just a shame, I was there with my son and wanted 2 waffles with cream to take away and wanted to eat them on the Rhine. This wouldn't work because there are no paper plates. I offered a deposit of €10.00 per plate and would have brought it back after a few minutes. A second lady angrily pointed out that something like that wasn't possible. People don't do things like that. Service is not a priority here. What is the food packed in that customers want to take with them that you haven't managed to eat? 🤔

I had the pleasure of visiting Bootshaus Rodenkirchen recently and all I can say is that it was a wonderful experience. The Wiener Schnitzel was really tasty, perfectly prepared and of excellent quality. The French fries were also crispy and tasty – simply outstanding. I would particularly like to highlight the young team of waitresses, who were not only extremely committed, but also very quick and attentive. Your efforts made the visit particularly pleasant. The MS Bootshaus is the only place in the area where you can sit in the sun for a long time in the evening - a real plus! It's a nice and friendly place where you can eat simply and well. The atmosphere is cozy and you immediately feel at home. The prices are moderate and absolutely justified for the quality offered. The location is unique and kept simple, which is what gives the boathouse its charm. All in all a great place for a relaxed and delicious meal. We recommend!

Well... Were there for the first time yesterday. The service staff was "there", but somehow we didn't really feel comfortable. The ship and the jetty are getting old. A renovation would be necessary in the long run. The men's toilet is completely damp, although relatively clean! The food was good! In summer the restaurant is definitely worth a visit.
