A bit dirty, but the service is friendly. The service is good, the staff very friendly, and the food tastes good. This restaurant feels like stepping back in time a few centuries, which unfortunately also applies to the cleanliness. BUT!!! Apparently, only revenue counts here, not the well-being of the guests. I didn't feel comfortable with the cleanliness during my visits in September 2025. Almost two weeks later, I found that nothing had changed. I finished my beer, paid, and left. There are many good reviews, but it seems no one notices that the dirt is simply pushed to the edges and corners. Sometimes, they don't even move the decorations to properly clean behind them. This situation extends throughout the entire building, even into the restrooms. This is clearly visible in many pictures. It has absolutely nothing to do with hygiene. One can only hope that the "self-created" breeding grounds for germs don't spread to the kitchen. But there are authorities responsible for checking such things. One of my business partners even offered his help because it's obvious that a lot of support is needed regarding cleanliness. Mr. Siegert hasn't even responded to my second email with proposed solutions after more than a month. Everyone is free to think what they want, but these conditions are unacceptable. In this day and age, cleanliness should be paramount, especially in the post-COVID era and particularly in places where many people gather. Times like the COVID have clearly shown us how sensitive people are. I'm from Bautzen, I'll keep an eye on it, observe the situation, and take action if nothing changes regarding cleanliness. Cleanliness is very important to me!

I always find it difficult to judge food, as tastes are known to vary. However, I was very disappointed that the dessert came from the freezer. We had quark dumplings, which were dry, cold, and really not very good. Nevertheless, I wish the restaurant all the best for the future.

An incredibly atmospheric place in the center of Bautzen. The decor is stunning, reminiscent of a medieval tavern. Their meat dishes melt in your mouth, are well-seasoned, and disappear in a flash. It's worth grabbing a meal and a good beer while visiting.

I was here with colleagues and had a wonderful evening. The atmosphere is very rustic, and the staff were dressed in traditional monks' robes. Drinks were served in earthenware cups. The food was delicious, and the portions were generous. It's also great that there's a free parking lot directly opposite the entrance. It's gated; you ask for a token to open the gate with your bill, which eliminates the hassle of searching for a parking space.

Beautifully designed rooms, without being overly medieval. Very good, rustic food at absolutely fair prices. Smaller portions are also available. The service is quite busy with many guests/groups. You can bring a large dog, which will immediately receive a full water bowl. Music and entertainment with a juggler can be booked additionally. Highly recommended.

Local beer in beautiful period mugs, and schnapps to finish. Polish menu, waiter with good English. A bit more expensive than other restaurants, but worth it. You only live once ;)

A fantastic location, meticulously planned down to the last detail! It truly feels like stepping back into the Middle Ages – a really well-executed atmosphere. The food was also good, but unfortunately the portions were too small considering the prices.

Too little meat on the plate, broccoli rock hard, and the whole meal unseasoned. Complaints went unanswered; it's been the same for years with no changes, very disappointing.

After an eventful day, we returned to the Mönchshof in Bautzen in the evening with our tour group. There, a sumptuous buffet awaited us – a veritable array of dishes – at "The Fifteenth." A truly rustic and charming restaurant, where you're transported back to the Middle Ages. Anyone visiting Bautzen shouldn't miss it.

A rustic ambiance, along with the historically costumed service (prior, barman, and monks), brings the Middle Ages to life. The menus and drinks lists, presented as a "letter of enfeoffment," are original and offer a wide selection. For our starter, we chose homemade farmer's bread with cracklings, onion rings, and gherkins – delicious. For the main course: boned veal shank in pine honey sauce with potatoes or venison ragout with wild mushrooms and napkin dumplings. Everything was excellently prepared and served. Accompanied by a well-tapped house beer or a red beer. We were served promptly, had a relaxed conversation with the competent staff, and felt at home. We would happily recommend the "Mönchshof."

We were there on a holiday and got the last available table. What luck! We were absolutely thrilled by the friendliness of the staff. EVERYTHING was truly to our complete satisfaction. We enjoyed the "Rote Abt" so much that we bought another beautiful bottle.

We spent two days in Bautzen and on the first day were looking for a beer garden. We found the Mönchshof and didn't want to leave. A beautiful terrace and beer garden with the most beautiful view in Bautzen. The food is excellent – ​​fresh, delicious, and plentiful – and the staff is absolutely top-notch: attentive, friendly, and welcoming. We loved it so much that we ate all our meals there during our stay. Highly recommended – we'd love to come back!

They really took their job of having a medieval monk's inn seriously. The decorations, the atmosphere, the terrace, and, of course the staff and the food are on point and diverse. Greetings from Romania! 5 Stars.

As a Bautzen resident, you're naturally familiar with the Mönchshof. Routine creeps in at the expense of quality. It's still okay for a rustic ambiance. Hardly anything in the food needs to be freshly prepared (fried). Absolutely fantastic, though, when it comes to offering regional beer, except for maybe the "Roter Abt," but nothing else.

Stopped here again after more than three years. Lovely atmosphere, attentive and friendly staff, and excellent food. Couldn't ask for more! Thanks 😊

After visiting the dinosaur park, we wanted to stop at the Mönchshof yesterday before starting our almost 2-hour drive home. After another restaurant had already told us that they had space, but that hot food wasn't served all day and card payments weren't accepted, we headed to the Mönchshof shortly before 5 p.m. Once we got there, we first inquired whether there was room on the terrace, whereupon we were told that it wasn't open yesterday. We resigned ourselves to this and asked if we could pay by card, which they confirmed. We then asked if the kitchen was open, which they also confirmed. We had now resigned ourselves to sitting in the vaulted room, but then Mönch 2 came over and told us that unfortunately there were no more tables available. At that time, there was only one table occupied within our sight. I think it would have been more productive to ask us how long we wanted to stay, as we were only looking for an early dinner before heading home. After that, by 6:30 p.m., we would have been gone, and the table would have been available for reservations. We ended up at McDonald's, much to the children's delight, but I found it frustrating that we couldn't end a beautiful day in a traditional German restaurant with a view. I'm also puzzled as to why the outdoor seating area is closed when the weather is dry and the temperature is around 17 degrees Celsius.

A very nice restaurant, which is also very pleasing to the eye. Unfortunately, the menu has changed, so not everything you see in the pictures is available anymore. The food is good, though, and the drinks come in cool little mugs and pitchers.

Aug 9, 2025, around 4:30 PM We had roast veal shank and pork. It was served quickly, and it tasted just as good. It was reheated who knows how many times. The price/performance ratio for the food was abysmal. The beer was good, hence the two stars. If the quality of the food is so-so, the ambiance and service don't help either.

I originally wanted to write a very positive review, but the way they deal with legitimate complaints has forced me to write this one. The operators do NOTHING about screaming toddlers, who otherwise have no education, e.g., dumplings on a fork and biting off of them. All out of fear of negative reviews online, so now I'm taking this approach. Is this better now? If I agree, we're both wrong. I just temporarily brought peace myself. My father didn't understand, but there's no place for me at his level.

The stylish interior and staff dressed in habits create a unique atmosphere that immediately attracts attention. The food is delicious – perfectly balanced flavors and proportions, and it's clear that the chefs put their heart and soul into every dish. The menu features many local specialties, allowing you to truly experience the flavor of the region. A big plus is the affordable prices and the menu available in three languages: Polish, German, and English – making ordering very easy. The service is incredibly friendly, courteous, and helpful. An additional advantage is the possibility of dining on the terrace with your dog – we really appreciate this approach!

Good food, the ambiance is a matter of taste. Better lighting in the entrance area to the restaurant (and within the restaurant) would be desirable, as would clear signs indicating which door leads to which. (The pictures are quite funny but difficult to understand for people who can't read "old German.") Foreign-speaking guests, in particular, are looking for the entrance to the dining room. Is the menu also available in English?

This is my second time at this restaurant and the second time it was a WOW effect. They cook very tasty food and brew beer. I highly recommend it. The service creates a good atmosphere.

The interior feels very gloomy and dusty, true to the restaurant's name. However, the small terrace is a wonderful place to while away the time. The bread with lard and the "Rother Abt" beer are highly recommended, as is the magnificent view.

Unfortunately, despite the restaurant being almost empty (May 1, 2025), we were sent away by the waiter because, as he said, we didn't have a reservation. He didn't even ask if we were there for dinner or just for coffee. The tone was dry, without an ounce of hospitality, zero attempt to find a solution. A very surprising experience in such a highly rated restaurant. We don't want to generalize, but our friends took it as a slight - perhaps because of our background. We can't recommend this place, unfortunately.

We celebrated our family reunion at the Mönchshof in May and were completely thrilled. The food was consistently excellent and all guests enjoyed it very much. Particularly noteworthy is the incredibly friendly and attentive service, which made our stay really pleasant. Another plus point is the convenient parking situation right next to the Mönchshof. This made the journey very relaxed for everyone. We would love to come back and can highly recommend the Mönchshof in Bautzen for family celebrations and cozy restaurant visits!

A very good and quaint restaurant in the heart of the old town. Friendly staff in monk's clothing, freshly prepared food. From the terrace there is a beautiful view of the Spree valley and the Alte Wasserkunst, seats outside, reservations recommended. Good selection of beers.

Great atmosphere on the terrace and nice waiters. The veal shank was served in sauce, lots of white asparagus and a side dish of choice. Both knuckle and asparagus were buttery and delicious.

A wonderful experience, that's how you can sum it up. We are a total of 6 adults and a small child, we were all full and the quality of the food gives absolutely no reason to complain. The service here is absolutely great and, above all, very well staffed. Extremely friendly and always keeping an eye on the guests to see if they have any wishes left unfulfilled. An all-round carefree package, a place where you like to stay and pay your respects to antiquity. Very, very tasty. We had six different main courses and three starters. The option to order smaller portions is also great. We'd go back anytime; a must if you're in Bautzen. Including Minne Sänger, you can't get much better than that. Wow, I'm so impressed. Berlin is missing something like this.

We had reserved. But there was enough space, which is unlikely to be the case this season. Very nice atmosphere, the service was friendly and the food came in a reasonable time. We both enjoyed it very much. I imagine it would be difficult to park there. We parked on the Spree and walked up. We'll be back in the summer.
