Monaco Ramen in München

Just back from Japan, my husband and I tried this new ramen restaurant in town. The restaurant is very nice, very Japanese style, but much larger. The opportunity to sit at the counter is priceless. The quality of the ramen is very good and is very close to the authentic Japanese ramen. It can be compared to what you eat in Japan! However, I would like the noodles a little more doubled and the meat slices a little more doubled. The price is the same as in Munich, but is higher than what you eat in Japan. We ordered Shoyu and Tonkotsu Ramen and some starters. The fried shrimp Wantan is the highlight of starters. I liked both soups, one more clear flavored with shoyu and chicken broth, and another deep creamy smoked. The noodles are the best handmade ramen, cooked with right time. We enjoyed a lot.

I’ve been having ramen around the world for the past 10 years and I can confidently say that Monaco’s ramen is the best you can find Munich. Heck, it’s better than most ramen bowls I had in Japan!

Ramen is prepared daily fresh by the owner. It was very delicious. The sitting area was not very comfortable and you cannot order your drinks (you have to buy them from another location inside the restaurant) but besides that was definitely worth the visit!

Love the experience if you know what to expect. It's more of an informal eatery than a restaurant and there are two separate kitchens inside. I was happy to find a vegan ramen which does not have the usual miso broth but a mushroom broth. It was hot and fulfilling! I can recommend it! It's a bit stuffy with the seating. Other people are always seated right beside you. If they add more vegetarian options at around 14-15€ price range, I would definitely return.

I like going to ramen shops when I travel. I went there because it had high reviews. I had the pork bone ramen and it was really delicious! ! Rich soup, juicy chashu, and firm noodles. I think this is the most delicious pork bone ramen I've had in Germany. The atmosphere is casual in a good way. I was also interested in Taiwanese mazesoba and fish sauce ramen. I will definitely come again if I come to Munich ❤️

Visited this restaurant takeaway last week and were not disappointed. The two starters were delicious (ribs were really tender) and the two main courses were also delicious. When we were there there was little going on and the noise was pleasant, only the temperature was quite warm 🥵 You can get drinks at a separate stand and there is also a burger snack bar in the large room. Friendly staff who bring the food to the table and also explain the dishes if you have any questions. Of course it's not for dinner, but that's not what it wants to be. Guests casual and relaxed. Definitely again sometime.

Best ramen in town! I'm really impressed at how the owner has worked his way up from the small interim use of a bar in Maxvorstadt (cooking alone). I first got to know his kitchen two years ago by chance while passing by and have been dreaming about the (vegan) ramen ever since. I found it very charming that he still remembered me despite the huge popularity. But I have to say that I have never eaten such a delicious ramen since then (whether in Germany or while traveling). And the Fat Car offers the perfect opportunity to linger with live music and a roof terrace. Absolute recommendation for Munich!!!

Rather industrial and loud. We waited over 25 minutes for the noodles. In the end it was spaghetti carbonara for over 16 euros. Delicious, yes. Can you get it cheaper and just as good somewhere else...yes.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at a small ramen place. The friendly staff greeted me with a smile and patiently helped me choose from the different types of ramen. But the highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the food. The ramen soup was absolutely delicious, with a rich, deep broth that was packed with flavor. The noodles were perfectly cooked – just the right mix of chewy and soft. Each ingredient seemed to have been selected with great care to provide a harmonious taste experience. In addition to the outstanding taste of the ramen, the portion size was also generous, so I left the restaurant full and satisfied. The price was more than fair considering the quality and portion size, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. I can highly recommend this place, which you should definitely visit if you are looking for authentic and delicious (also vegan) ramen.

I go to Monaco Ramen regularly and it's a treat every time! The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, the service is always friendly and attentive. But the best thing is of course the food: The ramen is excellent – ​​full of flavor, with fresh ingredients and perfectly balanced spices. I had dinner at this delicious restaurant with some friends. Delicious food and great service and presentation! We all left extremely satisfied. A special mention to Ramenara, a delicious fusion version of the classic carbonara. Really well made, absolutely worth trying!

Absolutely authentic Japanese tonkotsu ramen (said my Japanese wife). Don't wait in the long queue, that one is for the burger shop.

Japanese here, born and raised in Fukuoka, where Tonkotsu Ramen is originally from. This is by far the most authentic & delicious Tonkotsu ramen that i ever had in Munich. I am very happy that this restaurant exists, because no other major ramen shops were convincing, and I missed my hometown taste a LOT!! The broth is religiously thick, yet has delicate taste. My husband who doesn’t like Tonkostu ramen because of it’s greasy soup even liked it. One thing that can be improved to get the attention they deserve; there is too long queue in front of the entrance, where people are waiting for the burgers instead of the Monaco ramen. I saw some people turned around and left because they thought the ramen shop is also full and they had to wait. Having a info board mentioning that the guests for ramen can come in, would encourage people to come in more. I'm a Japanese from Hakata. I've never been satisfied with the tonkotsu ramen I've had at any of the ramen shops in Munich, but the tonkotsu ramen here was so authentic and delicious that I was so excited. When you're homesick, you can soothe yourself here. Even though the chef is not Japanese, I was impressed by his attention to detail and attention to authentic flavors.

We came here based on recommendations. We were looking forward to a nice and relaxing evening, made reservations and went there with great expectations. (After vacation in Japan it's hard to find good ramen 😅) About the food: We both had the Tonkatsu Ramen and have to say. Unfortunately we were disappointed. Visually great and tasted OK, but what disappointed us most was the consistency of the noodles. They were just way too hard (so much so that you couldn't even sip them). Dessert was delicious (but not homemade and we had almost 20 minutes for ice cream and sliced ​​mochi). About the service: Well - there isn't really one. There is a counter where you order and the food is brought to you. It's nothing more. Everyone is friendly, just a little slow. You can also get drinks separately. (All self-service). We weren't informed about it beforehand or anything like that, we just assumed it after a certain amount of time 🫣 About the ambience: It's like a train station hall or canteen, it's loud. Too loud for me personally to enjoy dinner. In addition to ramen, there is also a second “shop” with burgers in the large room. There is also music, which is of course played so loudly that you can still hear it amidst all the conversations. In short: we won't be coming anymore. 🫡

An absolute highlight for ramen lovers in Germany! The tonkotsu broth is incredibly intense, the noodles have just the right consistency, and the egg is waxy. The owner is also very personable and you can see his love for the craft. There is only room for improvement in the ambience due to the quite loud music.

The Ramen soups are delicious: you can select either from pork, meet, fish or vegetarian. The flavor is fantastic. Attention was very nice also. The only recommendation I would give is to have better air filters because inside smells heavily to burnt oil. IMPORTANT: Make sure to reserve, because after 18:30, it gets full.

Undoubtedly, ramen and good noodles prepared with a lot of care and effort. The vegan version I had came with unusual toppings and such an intense and creamy soup that was more cream than broth, which is why I only drank it very carefully and cautiously. First and foremost, I found the broth of the Shoyu Ramen to be very salty. Friendly service, you order and pay at the counter, for drinks other than sake you go to another counter. Ramen is brought to the table. There is already a line when it opens at 6 p.m., but no waiting time.

Ramen are expensive without reason. Too salty. I tool the special fish at 21 euros. 2 smalls pieces fighting each other. The noodle are strange. Cheap on the quantity. Quite deception.

The best address in Munich for ramen fans! I ordered a bowl of tonkotsu today. The broth is strong. The noodles are fresh with a bite. Three thin, soft chashu slices give the bowl of ramen a depth of flavor. The egg yolks of Ajitsuke Tamago are soft, melt-in-the-mouth, perfectly cooked and marinated. A good bowl of ramen is a symphony of flavors and aromas, texture and temperature. You've already done a great job at the Monaco Ramen! Don't be afraid of queuing. It's definitely worth it! I thought I wouldn't find authentic Japanese ramen in Germany, but here it was different. I first encountered Japanese ramen in Germany. Also, the owner is not Japanese. This is a revolution. I definitely recommend coming here. As a Japanese chef I will be back

Delicious but completely overpriced ramen. They share seating with a burger joint and a bar. But if you're in a group and one has ramen, one has burgers and one has something from the bar, you're not allowed to sit at the same table together. Absolutely ridiculous. As a group we had to move around three times and eat and drink one after the other. Pretty kindergarten.

The taste is really exceptional and by far the best ramen in Munich. The special fish ramen is particularly recommended. The price is a little higher but is completely justified due to the quality and the service is also super friendly.

I tried the Tonkotsu Ramen, the broth was good and the noodles tasty, however the portion of noodles I found it to be small for the amount of broth in the bowl. I finished the contents on my dish and got left with half a bowl of soup. The price is definitely too high for the value I got from the dish. For a nearly 20 euros bowl of ramen, it was definitely not enough. In my opinion the place is just overpriced. One thing I was hoping to get were real Japanese drinks, they have just sake. When I asked for other drinks, they send me to the drink island inside the place which has generic stuff but nothing Japanese-like. A 0,33L Radler costs more than the normal you pay for a 0,5 litter in other restaurants. They should definitely work on their drink offering. The staff was nice, no complaints about that, however, I thought the waiting period to get in was excessive, some tables were available and we still weren’t let in. When we finally got a table we spent some time just seating until we understood the order has to be made at the counter. A faster explanation of how the service worked would have been nice. All in all, I think this place is overhyped, overpriced and lacks offering. I won’t be back.

It has simply become the best ramen you can get in germany (05/2024). Perspective: far beyond any takumi branch and respective berlin ramen. Shoyu imho is the one that gave me tokyo vibes. Hope they step into the niboshimania takes soon.

I had many Ramen in Germany and also been to Japan several times so I know what I’m talking about: I had the Fish-Shoyu and this Ramen is just top tier!!! Every single penny worth it

Wow, Ramen are really awesome. Have been here already a couple of times and never got disappointed. Looking forward to come more often and to see what’s offered next time.

When I tried the soy sauce ramen, I was surprised at how well-done it was. I think this is the most delicious ramen restaurant in Deutschland. The deep flavor of the different flavors of kelp, shiitake mushrooms, dried sardines, and chicken bones combined with the aroma of the naturally brewed dark and light soy sauce was truly amazing. However, the owner was also worried that the noodles should have been boiled for a longer time. The hardness of the core remained and it was really a waste. Next time I visit, I will have to request softer noodles.

I had the vegan ramen and 6 gyōza. For me it was one of the top 3 vegan ramen in Germany. The broth was rich, creamy and intense, but nicely balanced. The ramen itself was cooked to the right point and was super high quality. The gyōza were also very good, with a slight spiciness, silky and airy steamed and crispy fried bottom. Food was excellent, service was focused on the job, but still very friendly. The wait for the food was longer than expected, but considering how few staff processed the amount of fresh ingredients, I wouldn't give it a deduction. I deducted a star for the ambience because I really appreciate the intimacy of ramen bars and the Smashed Burgen in the same hall didn't quite fit into the overall picture. Which is of course to be expected from a market hall. Nevertheless, the Ramen-Var is beautifully designed, the indirect light is super pleasant, and the space at the bar is cozy. Hooks for jackets or bags under the table might not be a bad idea ;) From that point of view, it's definitely a high-quality and delicious experience with a fair price for the quality. Thanks!

The shop on Rosenheimerstrasse is more of a snack bar than a restaurant. You have to get your own food and drinks. If you're unlucky like us, you end up sitting in the smell of fries and burgers from the neighboring restaurant. The frames are really very good, but simply for the ambience and everything is just a tad too expensive. In addition, the different toppings in the soup were cold, so I really asked myself what I had paid €18 for... It's a shame, but like so many in Munich, it's simply overpriced.

This is the most delicious ramen restaurant in Munich. We make our original noodles and soup with great care. This is a shop where you can feel the enthusiasm of the owner. I had the soy sauce ramen, and it's a light type that is rare in Europe, so I don't think you can get it at other restaurants.

The Tonkotsu Ramen and eggs are absolutely top! Super nice crew behind the counter. Only the walk-in system has not yet been perfectly adopted from Japan. If the line isn't moving, feel free to go in and see if there really is nothing free at the counter. Otherwise it is rather loud, so not for a good conversation or first date.

Unfortunately the noodles are too hard. Egg and soup were okay. At €20+ it didn't blow my socks off.

It can be so good, but very unfriendly

This was far from RAMEN. The soup tasted like a normal vegetable soup (it’s not RAMEN soup), noodles tasted half cooked and too soft, the toppings appeared OK but didn’t taste good. Sorry for strict comment because I am Japanese and I love Ramen. I have to share the honest feedback. If this was served as a normal soup, this could work. Is it RAMEN? NO.

Tonkotsu Ramen is amazing 5 star. But Shoyu Ramen is maybe 3.5 stars. The owner's passion for ramen is also 5 stars. Matcha Panna Cotta is an excellent combination of East and West and also full of surprises. More nuances of the ramen will be more interesting.

The food is just okay for the crowds. It's open from 6 p.m. and people have to queue from 6 p.m. It wouldn't have to be if there were the promised 2 queues. One for the burger joint and one for ramen. This means you have customers lining up for both. It's bad luck when the first customers line up at the door for burgers, it's busier there, and the waitress only asks the person standing directly in front of her. So if you want to eat ramen, it's worth asking at the door. The ramen is okay. Nothing special and priced at the top end (or above). The operators are really nice and relaxed.

No joke, I've never had such a good soup. Everything was perfect, from the speed of the service to the taste :) I can only recommend it!

Too expensive for self-service. The broth of the vegan ramen was delicious, but almost pudding-like in consistency and sat like a stone in the stomach for hours. Unfortunately, due to the burger station in the same room, we and our clothes smelled like burgers afterwards.

This is an incredibly popular place, there's a long queue before the 18:00 opening and also a long queue for the burger shop next to it. The Tonkotsu Ramen is decently good by Munich standards, the broth has an authentic creamy texture and a delicious bone flavor. The pork is very tender, a bit lacking in seasoning though. Service speed is very fast since the shop has a short menu and drinks are handled at a separate counter. The popularity also means the place has a pub vibe and easily gets very loud. It feels energetic, young, vibrant, but not the best place to have a real conversation.

The ramen was amazing, I had the tonkotsu option and my friend had the vegetarian one, they were both super creamy and full of flavour. Portion was good. Ambient is pretty cool, with a relaxed vive and a drinks bar. Will come back :)

Unfortunately not authentic. Neither in terms of timing (wait 30 minutes after ordering), broth or ingredients: Ramen without pork belly - well, the pork that was served was of good quality. Tonkotsu broth had no depth (salt yes, but no umami) All in all: Overrated. Also when it comes to price.

We ate ramen at Monaco today. When we arrived there was a very long line, we waited about 30 minutes, which was perfectly fine. There was a good briefing to avoid it getting too crowded inside, which we found very positive. Monaco Ramen is located in Munch Market in the former concert hall. In the market there is a drinks bar and also a burger stand that offers smash burgers. You order at the respective stands – street food style. After ordering you wait another 20-25 minutes, which wasn't a problem for us. We don't value waiting times because we want to enjoy our food in a relaxed manner and also enjoy the time together. About the ramen: I chose the Tonkotsu Ramen. The meat was very tender which was really great and the egg was also perfectly pickled. The broth was a bit too salty for me personally. I missed the creamy and fatty taste of the broth. I've eaten ramen before, both in Asia and Europe. My husband had the shoyu, where the broth was a bit too salty, but the meat and egg were also perfect for him. I would give the ramen a 3.5 out of 5. But I also have to add a positive thing: We sat right at the bar and you could tell the chefs had put a lot of effort into it, and in general the food market is still in its infancy. So there is still room for improvement. I think the concept of the food market in Munich is good.

Such a great place! The vegan ramen (ordered with an egg) was delicious and the service was incredibly nice. They gave us free sake when they found out it was my birthday. The best ramen I’ve had in Munich for sure! Make sure to reserve as it’s popular & there was a queue even on a Tuesday evening.

Pleasant and friendly store concept with really tasty ramen and friendly service

For anyone who wants to eat authentic ramen that leaves less than nothing to be desired, Monaco Ramen is a MUST! Everything is handmade with love, from the soup to the noodles, etc. Everyone gets their money's worth here, be it dishes with meat that melts in your mouth, as well as the vegetarian versions, which do not suffer any loss in taste or quality! "The eye eats with you" is not an understatement here, every dish is lovingly and attractively prepared so that it is difficult to avoid snapping a photo before the first bite. ;) The boss and the other staff are charming and helpful! You see, I'm raving - RIGHTLY! Very soon again :) :)

Super big let down after all these Munich food guides hyped them up. Don't trust these guides they don't know what they're talking about. I ordered chicken gyoza and the tonkotsu ramen. The gyoza looked cooked but were still cold. Sent them back and got new ones that were cooked perfectly. But had to wait up to 30mins for my ramen and it wasn't even that busy. The broth had no flavour like they forgot to put in the Tare. Also the noodles were more like chinese egg noodles than regular ramen noodles. The ramen cost €19.50 while at Takumi the equivalent is €15.80. I don't recommend this place.

Hyped hipster store and unfortunately not much behind it except high volume and prices. Plan for longer waiting times. Ambience = Grosmarkthalle which is OK because it corresponds to the concept. Unfortunately, the taste of the ramen is only in the middle range, but the price is significantly more expensive than higher quality alternatives/institutions in Munich. All in all, not worth the money, time and hype, at least in my opinion. It's a real shame, I hope things get better.

Absolutely the best ramen in Munich - for many years! We've known Monaco ramen since the time in the garage rooftop. You can tell that quality is really important here. I hope Monaco Ramen will be around for many years to come. I recommend it to everyone and am an absolute fan!

Ramen is undeniably delicious, and the staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. The only hiccup was with the Gyosa, as it arrived generously coated in a sauce, which made it a bit saltier than the traditional Gyosa I'm used to from my time in Japan. Nevertheless, it's a decent spot for ramen in Munich. Just be patient with the waiting time, and you'll find the experience worthwhile in the end.

Best ramen I had in a long time

Super tasty Tonkatsu Ramen and chicken gyoza. The concept hasn't been fully thought through yet, but it's getting there. You want to be a food court somehow but there are still long queues. (plan waiting time)

Although there wasn't that much crowd, I waited a long time to find out that the ramen I wanted was out. Ramen is fast food, what takes so long here? The employee was nice and also apologized. If you have to wait that long while hungry, you should definitely be informed. Also found the portion a bit modest for 18.50. It still tasted good, the system is just not fully developed, in Japan I can get ramen in less than 5 minutes and not after 1 hour :(

A really mediocre meal at best. I had the pork ramen. The broth was creamy but lacked any depth in flavor. There was no other flavor beyond creamy. The slices of pork were tasteless. Kinda thin. The egg was really well done though. All in all, disappointing.

I really hate to give bad reviews...but this store is completely overrated (hype alert!). The ramen is expensive and not a taste sensation for the price. Added to this is disorganized service and an extremely long waiting time (we waited almost an hour for our ramen). Perhaps the only pleasant thing is the atmosphere. Feel free to come here if you feel comfortable among young Munich hipsters. But don't come for the food. There is better ramen.
