Momotaro - Japanisches Restaurant in Köln

KINDERFEINDLICH Wir wurden mit Baby abgewiesen, obwohl der Laden mittags gerade erst aufgemacht hatte und komplett leer war. Auf Nachfrage warum, wurde gesagt wegen Kind und wegen Kinderwagen. War ein schlimmes Erlebnis für mich, diskriminierend und so untypisch für Köln.

Wer sehr gutes Sushi liebt, ist dort richtig! Einfach nur lecker und absolut zu empfehlen. Man sollte auch mittags vorab einen Tisch reservieren.

Essen: Nicht annähernd so gut wie Yabase in Düsseldorf oder Iroha in Frankfurt, aber die arrogante, aufdringliche Art ist unübertroffen. Service (oder besser gesagt: Einstellung): -5 Der Koch hinter der Theke wirkt wie der arroganteste und unglücklichste Mensch auf Erden. Es ist offensichtlich, dass er keine Gäste willkommen heißt. Die Kellnerin gibt sich alle Mühe, scheint aber zwischen Koch und Gästen eingeklemmt zu sein. Arme Frau. Ich denke, die widerliche Art und die dadurch entstehende schlechte Atmosphäre machen dieses Restaurant zu einem der unvergesslichsten japanischen Restaurants in Deutschland, die man besser meidet.

...und wieder einen Freund der japanischen Küche sehr glücklich gemacht. Sehr nettes Team und tolles Ambiente bei bestem Essen. Vielen Dank. ...nach 2 Jahren nun endlich wieder bei einer Köln-Reise hier gewesen und immer noch die gleiche Magie :-) Phantastisches Essen mit Stil und Ambiente ohne Chi-Chi... Danke.

Das authentischste japanische Restaurant hier in Köln. Die Qualität ist vergleichbar mit dem Sushi in Tokio oder im Allgemeinen in Japan. Vielen Dank für dieses tolle Restaurant!

Waren heute zum Mittagstisch da. Ich habe die vegetarische Option gewählt und ich muss sagen dass diese wirklich exzellent war. Alles köstlich und delikat :) auf jeden Fall eine wahre Empfehlung, wir kommen wieder!

Wirklich gutes Menü zum fairen Preis. Der Schweinebauch ist unglaublich gut, aber natürlich auch die Sushi oder Sashimi Gerichte. Personal sehr freundlich und aufmerksam. Lediglich das Ambiente ist ein wenig ungemütlich und erinnert irgendwie an eine Hotelrezeption. Volle Empfehlung.

Ich bin schon mehrmals in den vergangenen Jahren Gast im Momotaro in der Benesisstraße im Belgischen Viertel von Köln gewesen. Das japanische Restaurant für Sushi-, Sashimi- und Tempuraspezialitäten ist verhältnismäßig klein, so dass eine Reservierung zumindest abends immer erforderlich ist. Preislich bewegt sich das Restaurant im gehobenen Mittelfeld, was angesichts der gebotenen Qualität mehr als gerechtfertigt ist. Die Einrichtung ist einfach und schnörkellos, nahezu sachlich, wie man es von vielen Restaurants in Japan kennt. Das Essen, insbesondere Sushi und Sashimi, ist wirklich ausgezeichnet. Es zeichnet sich durch Frische und sehr hohe Qualität aus. Das Sashimi z.B. wird hauchdünn geschnitten, so wie es sein sollte. Ein lauwarmer Sake dazu rundet das japanische Essenserlebnis immer ganz hervorragend ab. Die Service-Kräfte sind sehr freundlich & aufmerksam und legen die für uns Europäer manchmal ein wenig übertriebene Höflichkeit an den Tag, wie man es aus einigen anderen asiatischen Restaurants kennt. Ich habe mich hier bisher immer sehr wohl gefühlt und gefreut authentische japanische Koch- und Zubereitungskunst erleben zu dürfen. Meines Erachtens nach ist das Momotaro das beste Restaurant in Köln für Variationen von Sushi und Sashimi!

Alles war hervorragend. Das beste japanische Restaurant in Köln und ganz Deutschland. Frischer Fisch, köstlich und wunderschön angerichtet. Man merkt, dass hier mit Herzblut gearbeitet wird. Seit 25 Jahren steht das Momotaro in Köln für Qualität und exzellenten Service. Ein großes Dankeschön an den wunderbaren Küchenchef Ryoji Naito und das gesamte Team! Es war sehr leckeres eher traditionelles Sushi, mit einer sehr schönen Atmosphäre. Der Besuch hat mir sehr viel Spaß gemacht!

I tried eating here twice as a single person. Both times, two tables were occupied and the rest were reserved. Since I didn't want to stay long anyway, I politely asked twice what time the reservations were, as the table would surely be free again by the time I made the reservation. But I was rudely waved out with the loud words, "Everything reserved!" No sign of the supposedly friendly person in this restaurant! My conclusion: Extremely arrogant! By the way, I went back 35 minutes after being escorted out and noticed that the reserved seats were still reserved and unoccupied. Maybe it's Japanese business practice to keep tables free for so long, but it's definitely not economical... in my opinion! He should know for himself!

The food was extraordinary, the service was excellent and everything about this place was lovely and welcoming. We came here quite last minute and they still offered us a great spot even though they said earlier we had to sit at the bar (which would’ve been fine as well). Fish was of excellent quality, the food is freshly prepared in the small kitchen and the sushi are prepared at the bar, super fresh as well. We will definitely come back! Even got a little parting gift. Loved everything about this place :-)

A very good Japanese restaurant with friendly staff and chef. The restaurant is small but very clean and pleasant, and the sushi is delicious and particularly fresh. We'll definitely be back.

I visited this Japanese restaurant for the first time on the evening of 6/11. The familiar bar counter allows diners to see the chef making the dishes. Many of the decorations in the restaurant are also very authentic, which makes people feel like they are in Japan in a second. The most impressive dishes are the braised beef (with shredded vegetables) and vegetables, fried shrimp tempura 🍤, and the simple and delicious miso soup is also great! The simple tofu, kelp sprouts and green onions are delicious. It will definitely make people come back many times!

We had dinner here yesterday☺️ Everything was very good. We ordered the 5-course menu; the appetizers, octopus and tuna, were wonderful (the sauces were especially great😉), and the sashimi was also very fresh. The servers were friendly, and the prices are very fair: €47 for 5 courses. We were delighted with the food here.😊

A super nice, friendly, and personable shop with a local feel. The shop is busy, but you'll still find a seat. If not, it's worth waiting or making a reservation! The sushi is freshly prepared with painstaking care and attention to detail, and you can taste it 😋 We also had a small noodle soup with udon, which was also delicious! All in all, the shop is exactly the kind of place you won't find in large sushi chains ✌️ definitely recommended; it's so good I thought I just had to support it.

Rather expensive, but also simply the best sushi in Cologne. Few places and 1 sushi master. Be sure to reserve several days in advance. I recommend trying the tuna or salmon tartare!

Momotaro is truly one of the best sushi shops in Cologne! The quality and authenticity of the sushi is outstanding - you feel like the shop could just as easily be in Kyoto. Be sure to reserve in advance, as the sushi master is very strict about allocating tables. Anyone who eats here will experience an authentic Japanese experience at a high level. Unreservedly recommended!

Cozy ambience with yummy sushi and udon

I can't judge whether it's good or not. Apparently there was no space available, even though there were only two tables occupied by two people each and everywhere else there was a reserved sign. Also on Saturday lunchtime it was 12:30, 20 degrees in Cologne and the shop closed again at 2 p.m. There is no terrace. Luckily there are similar shops in the area.

Very authentic, family-run. Be sure to try the menu, really good. Very nice and good service.

As regulars at Momotaro we know we can always count on a good meal there. Ingredients are always fresh and prepared with care and skill. Lunchtime specials are great value, and service is attentive and quick. The restaurant is small and fills up quickly, so reservations are a must.

The udon noodles were super tasty, the atmosphere was nice and calm and suitable for the small restaurant. I'd love to come back!

Small restaurant with a maximum of 20 indoor seats, including 5 at the counter. Reservation is therefore recommended. Ambience rather mediocre, but food tasty and freshly prepared. A pleasing number of “non-sushi dishes”. To get full you should p.P. Allow approx. €40-50.

I don’t remember having sashimi as those ones served here; they are the best, fresh and succulent. Attentive service, intimate settings and the little details in decors that feel I’m transported to a an authentic sushi bar in Japan. We also had udon, shrimp gyoza and concluded with a matcha ice cream. Will go again for sure!

Small restaurant, the food is prepared directly and served quickly. There weren't many guests there. The food was very tasty, but a bit too expensive for me personally. Price/performance was not balanced, around 2-3 euros. Otherwise it's cozy, staff is very nice and quick! Questions are answered well! Would still recommend it!

The best sushi restaurant in Cologne. A great variety of choices and offers a very inexpensive lunch menu. A small restaurant with a cosy atmosphere.

Made me remember the time of my exchange semester in japan. They are super friendly and the service is swifly. The restaurant serves classic Japanese cuisine with a western friendly touch. I liked the Sashimi a lot and also the Tempura was almost like the one you get in Japan. It was a little bit like an izakaya.

La carte indique une pléthore d'ingrédients chimiques sur chaque produit. La cuisine est adaptée à l'Europe avec de la mozzarella au lieu de fromage de soja, beaucoup de poissons sont en rupture de livraison, les sushis et makis se délitent à la saisie et tombent en miettes !!! The selection of sushi was diverse and creative. We particularly recommend the tuna tartare, which is served with avocado, sesame and a spicy sauce. It was a poem! Ich habe insgesamt 20 mal versucht vor bzw während der Öffnungszeit anzurufen und zwei Nachrichten auf dem AB hinterlassen. Leider konnte ich niemanden erreichen. Über Google oder die Website lässt sich leider auch kein Tisch reservieren. Daher gehen wir wo anders essen.

Really authentic Japanese restaurant run by Japanese. Sushi were superb and really delicious. You can also order a variety of dishes which you usually don’t get from “Japanese” restaurants in Europe, such as soba noodles and udon. We ordered the set menu and were attentively served by the wait staff. Octopus was served in a delicious yuzu/ponzu light sauce. Sashimi was delicate and fresh. Rice in sushi was done to perfection.

I've been researching Japanese restaurants in Germany while deciding what to visit on our Germany and Netherlands trips. This place popped into my research and I decided this would be one of my "must-visits". I miss Japan so much and I always try to recreate those memories. This restaurant is very tidy, clean, and beautiful. Reminded me of many Izakaya I've been to, family-managed, and service was extremely polite, especially with our young daughter. The food was authentic Japanese and very very good. Unfortunately, Toro Maguro was unavailable. I didn't like Cologne, maybe it was me or the bad experience we had with the Hotel but this place was able to put us back on track with the good vibes. Highly recommended!

Klein aber fein, reservieren sollte man daher auf jeden Fall. Preis Leistung ist top, authentisch und echte japanische Speisen. Leider muss man das erwähnen dar es viel fake Japaner bei uns in Deutschland gibt.

Das Sushi Restaurant Momotaro kenne ich schon viele Jahre. Es ist klein, aber sehr fein. Für mich ist es eines der authentischsten Sushi Lokale in Köln. Alles schmeckt hervorragend und ist von sehr guter Qualität. Da es so klein ist empfehle ich dringend eine Reservierung vorzunehmen. Heute, im Juni 2023, war es ziemlich warm und auf dem gedeckten Tisch lagen zwei japanische Fächer, die wunderbar dazu dienten die warme Luft wegzufächern. Ich komme immer wieder gerne hierher, auch wenn es auch nicht so oft ist. Ich liebe es !!

I ate here today and it was awesome.

Mixed feelings with this place. I got my green tea absolutely cold. The waiter spoke no German and/or English whatsoever, so I had to use Google translate to get warm tea instead. On the other hand, the sashimi was absolutely cold as if it was just taken out of the refrigerator. You cannot serve cold sashimi in an authentic Japanese restaurant! To top this all up, the waiter hesitated to return the change (26 EUR), so I had to specifically urge him to give it to me. The fish was fresh though.

Wer qualitativ hochwertiges Sushi mit gutem Service sucht ist hier an der richtigen Adresse. Man sollte unbedingt reservieren, parken vor Ort ist nur in Parkhäusern möglich. Das Restaurant ist barrierefrei nicht sehr gut zu erreichen, da es eine Eingangstreppe gibt und auch im Restaurant ist es eher eng.

Immer wenn wir in Köln sind, essen wir hier! Super leckere und authentische Küche. Preis-Leistung top!

Ich war zwar noch nicht in Japan.. Aber so stelle ich mir dort eine Sushi Bar vor :) Das Ambiente, die Bedienung und auch die Qualität stimmen. Wer sashimi mag aber auch auf Reis noch verzichten will, kann ein Gericht bestellen wo verschiedene Sorten auf Reis serviert werden (Namen weiß ich nicht mehr, aber fragt einfach danach ;)

Wir kamen um 20 Uhr- und wurden weggeschickt mit dem Hinweis, dass um 21 Uhr geschlossen werden würde. Ein Tisch war frei. Keine Nachfrage, ob man vielleicht nur eine Kleinigkeit bestellen wollte (war so), kein Anbieten einer Reservierung für einen Folgetag, kein Interesse an einer anderen Lösung. Nur die sehr schroffe Aussage, man könne nicht dableiben. Ist das japanische Höflichkeit???

Eines der besten Sushi-Restaurants in Köln. Eine leckere und authentische Auswahl, super nette Bedienung und gemütliche Athmosphäre.

Es herrscht eine ruhige Atmosphäre. Das Servicepersonal ist kompetent, umsichtig und sehr freundlich. Die servierten Speisen sind durchweg vorzüglich und von Meisterhand zubereitet. Zu empfehlen ist das angebotene Menü. Der grüne Tee ist sehr aromatisch und wird auf Wunsch nachgeschenkt. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

Eigentlich ist das Essen durchweg sehr lecker und authentisch, aber der Sushi-Meister ist wirklich eine Zumutung. Er beschimpft regelmäßig sein Personal aufs Übelste und lästert abfällig über seine Gäste. Dieser Typ verdirbt einem den Appetit leider gehörig und sollte lieber hinten in einer Küche versteckt werden, ohne Kontakt zum Kunden. Wirklich sehr schade, das Momotaro könnte sonst so ein tolles Restaurant sein!
