Always a highlight and a real treat! The food is outstanding, with a wide selection and perfectly balanced flavors. The drinks menu is also impressive. Ordering is quick and easy via tablet, making the experience very pleasant. The service is prompt and friendly, and the atmosphere is lively – the restaurant is always busy.

A Japanese wanna be: 1. After being seated, no menu was given for 10 min. Had to go to one of the employees to ask for it 2. Dirty electronic ordering pad. Did you guys cook on it? 3. 39 EUR sashimi were semi-cooked, the freshness was questionable. The price-quality was not reasonable.

The food was okay, nothing special, rather mediocre! I was there with my wife and daughter. We weren't impressed with the food, I have to say; we had hoped for more because of the good reviews we'd read beforehand, which is why we decided to come here.

What an explosion of flavor! It was our first time at Kaizen, and we really treated ourselves. Since we hadn't made a reservation, we were lucky to get a table at all. My husband has celiac disease, and the wonderful Lydia served us with her expertise, even bringing me gluten-free soy sauce. Ordering via the iPads was easy, and the appealing pictures were very helpful. Besides the outstanding quality of the fish, the drinks were a true delight for the palate. We will definitely be back. A clear recommendation from us!

We spent a weekend in Cologne and decided to eat at Kaizen. It was by far the best sushi we've ever had. The restaurant is beautiful, the atmosphere is wonderful, and the staff is simply fantastic! We would definitely come back every time we visit Cologne! :)

Still one of my favorite Japanese restaurants. The food looks and tastes just like it appears on the menu. Sometimes a bit confusing clicking through the tablet, but that's no drawback. Beautifully presented, and you always get your table quickly. It's a good place to have a conversation. You should definitely make a reservation in advance; alternatively, you can sit at the bar, but that's more of a passing area. The prices are a bit higher, but I think that's very fair. I'd happily go back again. 👍🏼

The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive 👌. I invited friends from a distant city, and we were all thrilled – the creative dishes and unique combinations are simply fantastic! Every dish was so delicious, you'd want to try the whole menu. There's also a great selection for vegans and gluten-free eaters. Ordering via the tablet is accompanied by pictures and is super easy to use. Although the restaurant is often very busy, the service is fast and the quality of the food is excellent. I definitely recommend making a reservation a few days in advance, both during the week and on weekends.

Kaizen is hands down the best sushi spot in Cologne. Every time I visit the city, it’s my first stop. The sushi is always fresh and beautifully prepared – my personal favorites are the Green Diamond and Shrimp Tempura rolls. The atmosphere is elegant yet relaxed, service is excellent, and the quality is consistently top-notch. A little tip: pair your sushi with a glass of Riesling – it makes the experience even better. Truly a must-visit for sushi lovers in Cologne!

Since it's a place we frequent, the three of us visited again for lunch. We ordered five drinks and some food and ate in the restaurant, but the bill only showed a starter, which was a bit confusing. I think it would be better if the order details were more detailed next time.

Kaizen is by far the best sushi restaurant :) I especially recommend the Crispy Amazon. They also offer many vegan options! The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. The only drawback is that they don't have a changing table. They're still very baby-friendly! Reservations are recommended, as it's very popular :)

Great sushi restaurant to visit in Cologne. Variety of fun drinks and rolls. The karage chicken was to die for! Order on the iPad and the food is brought to your table.

I love the food there! I first went there 5 years ago and have never had better sushi than there. The world's best sushi is only available here! An absolute must for sushi lovers!

Despite having a reservation for two hours, we were shown the door after one hour due to double booking. The problem was primarily the manner in which we were served. The food was truly excellent! Service and human interaction unfortunately left a lot to be desired. Addendum: Reservation was on Voltz for 6-7:45 PM.

The dishes were fresh, flavorful, and lovingly prepared – a true culinary recommendation for lovers of Japanese cuisine. The staff's recommendations were also very apt and demonstrated great expertise. The friendliness and attentiveness of the team, who were always present without being intrusive, deserves special mention. One small suggestion for improvement: While ordering via tablet is practical and efficient, it does take away some of the personal interaction with the service – which is particularly unfortunate given such a hospitable team. Overall, however, a thoroughly enjoyable visit. I would be happy to return!

Absolutely recommend it! For me, Kaizen is the best sushi shop in Cologne. The quality of the ingredients is exceptionally fresh, each piece of sushi is prepared with great attention to detail, and it not only looks good but also tastes excellent. There's a wide selection, including not only classic varieties but also many unusual creations. The ambiance is modern and cozy; you immediately feel at home. The service is super friendly, attentive, and happy to help with your selection. The price-performance ratio is absolutely justified for the quality. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

Great quality! I visited the restaurant with a friend. Ordering was convenient and easy via iPad. The best part: gluten-free sushi and other delicacies, including soy sauce... We simply ordered everything gluten-free, and it was all delicious. The rice was perfect and not heavy, the fish was extremely fresh, and the seasonings, such as the pickled ginger and wasabi paste, were very tasty and superbly prepared. We enjoyed every sushi roll and were happy that we chose Kaizen. The service was friendly and very accommodating. Everything went quickly, and we were happy. We'll be back! A fantastic taste experience, 100% recommended. 🙌

The food and service was really good; The only thing that's super annoying is ordering via the iPad, it would really help if you had cards and then ordered via the iPad; We would have even ordered more, but we didn't feel like using the iPads, which crashed every now and then.

I've been going to Kaizen for years, I tried the Volcano rolls for the first time in 2017, I've now switched to Crispy Amazon, it's great that they have a veggie option, for me it's still the best restaurant in Cologne

Kaizen has become our favorite Japanese restaurant. Great rolls that don't necessarily correspond to traditional Japanese cuisine, but also classic cuisine and great sushi and sashimi variations. A suitable selection of drinks and good cocktails. Reservations are mandatory, even during the week.

There was an extra gluten-free menu and gluten-free soy sauce. It was very tasty and the service was friendly. We had a great evening!

The food was very good, but I’m giving only 3 stars due to the price and the service. For this price level, I would expect a higher standard of service rather than ordering via an iPad interface. There were several issues with our order, such as missing rice and forgotten wasabi. When we asked for the wasabi, we were given a very small portion for four people, which was clearly not sufficient. Overall, it was a good Japanese restaurant, but the price-to-service ratio made it feel overpriced. For that reason, I wouldn’t recommend it.

Finding a parking space took over 30 minutes, but everything else that came after that made up for it more than 100%. Super tasty, absolutely friendly staff and cozy atmosphere, we will definitely come back. Finding a parking space included 🙈

After we spontaneously didn't get a table on Friday, we came back a day later with a reservation. The vegetarian sushi are exceptionally tasty and a very tasty change from the “standard” versions in other sushi shops. The service is super friendly and we had a great evening. The chili mayo was a bit too spicy for me, but that didn't detract from the overall impression. I'll come back when I'm in Cologne.

The Japanese or Asian food is partly great, partly unfortunately disappointing: the tuna was laced with tendons and the fried chicken was quite bland in taste. But most of the food and drink is great, even compared to other sushi restaurants. The waitresses are friendly and almost always attentive.

Incredibly delicious sushi made from the freshest fish – highly recommend! The Riesling was also excellent. Everything was served fairly quickly. The interior is decent but feels a bit hastily put together. The restrooms, unfortunately, do not match the standard of the restaurant. You place your order on a tablet, but there’s only one per table, which makes it quite time-consuming for everyone in the group to choose their food. On the downside, the service leaves much to be desired. You pour your own wine – the waitstaff simply bring the bottle. We were celebrating my brother’s birthday and mentioned it when making the reservation, but there was no acknowledgment of the occasion, which slightly dampened the experience.

There we quickly started talking to the people sitting next to us and exchanged ideas about other food spots in Cologne - a nice start to the evening! The service at Kaizen is attentive, personal and quick. Orders are placed via a tablet that is handed out to each seat. Tip in advance: First order one of the delicious homemade lemonades or a cocktail - this way you can explore the diverse menu in a relaxed manner. The restaurant offers an exciting combination of Japanese cuisine with modern fusion elements and South Korean influences. The dishes are not only diverse and taste excellent, but can also be individually adapted - personal notes or requests are implemented flawlessly by the kitchen. A special highlight: The chef personally brought a Japanese specialty to the table for us to try - a really great gesture! A small incident with a flat tablet battery resulted in a dish being forgotten when the order was transferred. But the service was accommodating and let us have the dish without charging - which we of course rewarded with a generous tip. When it comes to taste, Kaizen offers something for everyone: Anyone who loves sweet and spicy dishes with a sophisticated twist of spiciness will be delighted here. However, if you like it more bitter, spicy or traditionally Japanese, you can enjoy the excellent sushi selection. The sashimi particularly impressed us with its freshness. The quality has its price, but the taste experience and the first-class ingredients are definitely worth it. A reservation is highly recommended as the restaurant fills up quickly. A big thank you to the entire team - especially to the attentive service and the friendly chef - for this wonderful evening. We'd love to come back!

Authentic and good! We ate lunch here, once ramen, once the beef bowl. The menu prices were perfectly fine; soup (except for ramen) and dessert were included. Plus a few makis and Japanese beer. What I like about the shop is that you can eat traditional and I would say “simple” food if you want, but they also have more modern sushi options for fusion lovers. Really highly recommended ❣️

Kaizen was our absolute favorite restaurant in Cologne for a long time - excellent, high-quality cuisine. The food is always a delight, lovingly prepared and full of flavor, making every visit a culinary experience. However, the service increasingly clouds the overall impression. During our last visit we noticed once again that the care of guests is increasingly becoming a matter of quick processing. What used to impress with warm hospitality and attentiveness now seems more mechanical, fast and impersonal. The feeling arises that the focus is too much on efficient processing and less on the well-being of the guests. Given the high prices (we always pay around €60-70 per person), it is particularly disappointing that the service no longer matches the standard of the kitchen. We still enjoy coming to Kaizen, but with each visit we feel less welcome than before. In summary: The kitchen at Kaizen remains a highlight, but the gradual decline in service mars the overall experience.
