Michaelis Kaffeehaus & Restaurant "Di Sopra" in Chemnitz

Fantastic gooseberry tart with meringue, friendly and quick service. We felt very comfortable!

This is a must-visit when visiting Chemnitz. Everything is freshly prepared with love. The chef himself explained the menu to us and didn't overpromise. Our visit was just as impressive, and we'll definitely be back.

The food is delicious, and the ice cream and cake were truly amazing. However, the service is clearly overwhelmed, which affects the atmosphere! Perhaps the team could practice a bit more to improve the service. Nevertheless, I would go back if the food stays this good.

The service is terrible. Coffee and cappuccino took 45 minutes. Everything was cold.

A relatively large, yet cozy coffee house with indoor and outdoor seating. There's a wide selection of cakes and coffees. The service staff, while attentive, seems very reserved and cold.

The two of us were here on Saturday evening. We received a very warm welcome and were shown to our table. The drinks arrived quickly, as did the food we ordered. We'd love to come back 🙋🏻‍♀️

Super delicious breakfast, friendly service and great atmosphere.

We ordered a cocktail and wanted a glass of tap water with it. It's common practice in Austria. They charged €2.80 each for two 0.2-liter glasses (the same price as mineral water). I would have understood if they charged a euro for washing the glasses, but this is a disgrace.

I was disappointed with breakfast. Even though it was a weekday, there were baked rolls. The cheese and sausage were nothing special. The products were simply too cheap for the price.

We spontaneously stopped by on a Saturday morning and were lucky enough to get a nice table. The breakfast is highly recommended. We had the large tiered stand for four people, and it was very filling, with lots of fruit, salmon, cheese, ham, and eggs. The staff were super pleasant and attentive without being intrusive, and they always had time for a quick chat. When the weather is nice, there are plenty of outdoor seating areas. Highly recommended.

Nice, friendly service, excellent breakfast selection, plentiful and varied... Fresh, varied fruit, a nice selection of cheeses and cold cuts, excellent rolls, and a sparkling glass of sparkling wine 🥂 I'd love to come back!!! Looking forward to the next time!

We wanted to stop by for a quick afternoon snack. We looked around at the kitchen counter. My eyes widened. A slice of cake for €6 (€2.90 on the street) is pretty steep, especially since I remember the size from my last visit. They cut at least four slices from a quarter here. You can imagine what you get for €6. The selection has shrunk considerably, in my opinion, even compared to my last visits. There was a sign on the counter telling you to sit down and be served. We did so. Unfortunately, we waited about 10 minutes in vain for service. That was too much for us, and we left the table outside. I've known this coffee house for a few years now, but I can't say whether I'll visit again. What a shame!

We went there for breakfast today. On their website, it was €32.90 for two people, but the menu was €36.90. The sausage selection was the same as for two slices of salami. Four slices of cheese and one block of butter for two rolls. The rest of the menu was fine. The lovely ambiance and friendly service made up for a lot. But having to pay an extra €3 for two butter rolls was a bit harsh. If we like it, it doesn't matter how much it costs. But unfortunately, this breakfast didn't offer value for money at all.

I highly recommend this coffee house. We had an event at Kosmos and received a warm welcome. In the end, both the owners and we were very satisfied. Especially us, since we were given the opportunity to use the space here. Thanks again to the entire Michaelis team. We'd be happy to come back anytime.

One of the better places for breakfast, lunch or diner. Friendly staff.

The service was great, and the atmosphere was fantastic. The sundaes are huge and delicious.

We love coming here — food is consistently good and it’s such a good cafe to come with children! They have an amazing mini-play area for kids including a kitchen, stroller, dolls, etc., and are so tolerant when kids are just being kids. I can also totally recommend their poached eggs and avocado with hollandaise sauce, it is my go-to whenever we go 🤤

Very good breakfast. Very good and friendly service.

We wanted to buy ice cream to go during the Hat Festival, but a vendor was very rude and yelled at us and kicked us out. The same goes for the other families before and after us. If you're overwhelmed with customers, you can always just politely say that there's no takeaway today. But for now, I'll be avoiding the Michaelmas market. PS: Buono is 100 meters away. They also serve ice cream, and they were nice to families despite the rush for the Hat Festival.

Service and friendliness are unaccustomed to. In summer temperatures, you stand in line for ice cream with a 3-year-old child, only to be told in the middle of the afternoon that they're no longer selling ice cream. I hope they never complain about how bad business is.

Super delicious cakes and tarts!

We went for Christmas dinner, everything was delicious and the atmosphere was great. Our request (no meat) was well-received.

Leider Gottes gibt es viel zu selten Köche die sich mit dieser Hingabe um das Essen kümmern. Da merkt man dass es dem Koch Spaß macht zu kochen und er das nicht nur tut um Geld zu verdienen. Die Kreationen aus der Küche sind ein Genuss nicht nur für den Gaumen.

A lovely place for Sunday breakfast. Highly recommended. Good value for money. Reservations are recommended for families or larger groups.

Nice and friendly, staff is very nice and you receive friendly service. Been there again after a long time and what can I say, the service is perfect all around and you feel comfortable.

Nice atmosphere and nice staff, but I didn't really like the ice cream sundae with mango, it tasted a bit unripe, but the tomato soup last time was delicious

The restaurant was very nice inside. It was cold outside in spring. Otherwise, it was very nice. On the plus side, the staff had a good sense of humor and, of course, the delicious food. P.S.: It's best to ask for a blanket ;)

I can fully recommend it. We've had coffee there several times, and all the pastries were always top-notch.

It is considered by the people of Chemnitz to be the best coffee. There is a wide selection of cakes and pies 🍰. There are also various types of ice cream. The place is very nice and cozy. There are also seats outside. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The toilets are clean and spacious.

Positive mentions include the good location of the coffee shop, the friendly service, the large selection of cakes and the live music. However, I was a bit disappointed, a small piece of cake, regardless of the type, was priced high, and then the taste was well - I would have expected more for the price, it lacked a certain oomph. Otherwise everything was very clean and chic.

The team at Michaelis was very friendly and super accommodating. The atmosphere is really cozy and even has live piano accompaniment. Even on a Sunday morning, delicate sounds can be heard at breakfast. We can only recommend it. Oh yes and not only the rolls and the like were a poem, the cake was also a poem. We will definitely visit this great atmosphere again.

Good place for a breakfast. Very tasty and good selection, as you can see in the photo. Should be even more comfortable outside in the summer but sitting inside is also pleasant. Sabine also liked the coffee.

Everything was absolutely great. Great food, large portions, good value for money, creative menu, great vegetarian options and very friendly service. Gladly again. Went there for brunch, we'll probably come again in the evening, the menu whets our appetite.

We invited our children, who live in Thuringia, to Chemnitz. Chemnitz, the European Capital of Culture 2025, was a good occasion. The events we attended, including at Neumarkt, left a good impression on us. Great atmosphere and the people of Chemnitz proved to be good hosts. Unfortunately, this impression was spoiled when we sat down in the coffee house. We were assigned a table because we intended to eat something. After what felt like an eternity we were asked what we wanted. Eat ? None. The “normal kitchen,” whatever that is, closes at 5:30 p.m. We could try our luck on the upper floor. A service person told us that a table had to be cleared first. Understandable. After 10 minutes of waiting, the table still wasn't cleared. Our question was answered quite rudely by the service staff, who hadn't had time yet. Over half an hour of wasted time for us. Too bad. With all the respect we give to the service staff, they are service providers and are there for the guest, who ultimately brings them the money. We left the coffee house. We were compensated in another location that was within reach. We felt welcome as guests. So our children ultimately went home with a good impression of the cultural capital. Another little note for the coffee house. Dozens of receipts lying on the floor don't make a good impression. The well-intentioned musical accompaniment was marred by a "karaoke singer". First class cafe. Very traditional. The cakes and small pastries are simply fantastic and therefore worth every euro. The small games corner makes the visit even more relaxing for families :)

Di Sopra on the 2nd floor is a culinary delight

for the first time in this institution, the hall is large, there is a second floor. there are not many people, at 12 o'clock in the afternoon 4-5 tables are occupied served by a waiter and an administrator. they speak English. ordered carbonara. the order was brought in 7 minutes. the portion is large, the pasta al dente, enough bacon. they asked me several times if I wanted to order something to drink. there is a small area for children, with toys and chairs, but very small.

Nice café, but poor service, the waiter had assigned us a seat but then didn't come and took care of everything else, so I had to go up to him and ask if he should serve or if we should choose something at the counter ourselves. Then he came to our table, visibly annoyed, with his hand in his pocket and took our order. Cake and cake, coffee very tasty, €4.90 each, then he didn't bother with us again and had to approach him again to pay. It's a shame, as it's otherwise a very nice café. Good staff seems to be in short supply, as elsewhere.

What a successful evening, with delicious food in a very nice atmosphere. Our first Christmas day couldn't have been better. The portions were more than sufficient and very tasty.

We like being here when we are in Chemnitz. The food is delicious and inexpensive, the staff is always friendly and in a good mood. Especially on weekends, it is advisable to reserve a table for breakfast in person. The homemade cakes are a delight with coffee.

We like to come to Michaelis for coffee. The cake tastes very tasty and the staff is super nice. There is also a small play area for children. That's great.

Tested breakfast on Sunday, only a la carte possible - no buffet. Service is good and the quality of the food is good too, but very expensive, you have to be aware of that. E.g. individual butter, small pre-packaged Nutella, rolls 1.50 euros each, freshly squeezed orange juice approx. 7 euros.

Very friendly service, the chef presents the dishes himself, answers questions in detail and also gives plenty of tips for choosing. The food itself was of the best quality and tasted delicious. Highly recommended.

Very quiet location for a relaxed breakfast

Five stars for a location in Chemnitz that one hundred percent deserves it. Several visits, several unusual requests and everything was always done as requested. This year, like last year, we were again with our foreign construction site team celebrate in the restaurant on the 1st floor. As was the case last year, the food was very good and the service left nothing to be desired. Thanks to the kitchen and keep it up.

It wasn't the first time we ate here and certainly not the last time. We were impressed by both the main courses and the delicious desserts and cakes. There is a spacious toilet on the ground floor for people with walking difficulties.

Wir waren spontan nach einem Einkaufsbummel im Di Sopra Mittagessen und sind total überrascht und begeistert. Das im Obergeschoss vom Kaffeehaus Michaelis gelegene Restaurant hat ein tolles Ambiente mit echt leckerem Essen. Der Chefkoch persönlich hatte sich erkundigt, wie es schmeckt und auch unsere Bedienung war sehr zuvorkommend und freundlich. Sehr zu empfehlen. Wir kommen gerne wieder 😉👌

We had an ice cream sundae on Saturday at 2 p.m. It wasn't a big deal in this day and age where an ice cream sundae is an exception. For €10 you wouldn't expect frozen fruits to suck on because they had strawberry cups and fruit cups, the ice cream was ok but if you're in the market I think it's really weak when you're in front of the door

The first attempt was a bit bumpy but today we had breakfast with our children and it was very nice. Service and food were a 10/10. Mr. Seidel welcomed us warmly and joked with the children, everyone felt comfortable. Very cozy atmosphere, the breakfast was nicely presented and very tasty. It was a great start to the 1st Advent, many thanks to the entire Michaelis team.

We had a wonderful day with our family today for lunch at Michaelmas. The six children from two families had a lot of fun in the play area. Despite there being a lot of people, the food came quickly and everyone enjoyed it very much. Thanks to the great team.

Went to dinner at Di Sopra Chemnitz on November 22nd, 2024. As ALWAYS top quality and very friendly service. The highlight is the head chef, Mr. Wolf, who comes to the table and asks whether it was tasty. Where else can you find something like that? 👍🏻. Keep it up!

We did something crazy last night: St. Martin’s goose at the “Italian” in di Sopra. Excellent. We can only recommend it to anyone who wants to enjoy the special food and experience in Chemnitz's gastronomy from time to time.

The latte macchiato and the homemade cake taste very good. I've been to Michaelmas from time to time. The service is friendly, but sometimes you have to wait a while for them to come to you. At least later, when you've finished eating and drinking. But everything is still within limits.

Di Sopra offers cuisine of the highest standard and, in my opinion, is one of the best in Chemniz. My wife and I rounded off our wedding day with a great meal. A clear recommendation!

Expensive, but super good. I ordered the ice cream chocolate to take away and I have to say, the ice cream is super delicious, the cocoa too, cookies are just cookies and the cream with the sprinkles are also great. But it's best to take your own straw with you because math notebook (paper straw).

Our goal was to have a leisurely coffee. We now know the selection and I'm disappointed that there isn't even a bit of variety. My piece was ok, although older. The prices are hefty, although I can understand that. Since many people only drink coffee but stay for hours. The service was friendly and quick. All in all, I miss individuality here.

Unfortunately my double espresso was already half cold, and the Michaelmas breakfast consisted of thawed rolls, one of which was even wet. The selection of cakes in the counter was very good and my cake tasted really good. The service was nice, but sometimes it took quite a long time, even though not all the tables were occupied.
