IKEA Chemnitz in Chemnitz

Last Thursday was probably the last time I went shopping at IKEA Chemnitz. The renovation, with its chaos and confusion, has been going on for many months, and the restaurant has been closed for ages. That's something I could live with. But I honestly think it's disgusting that the checkout area is now exclusively self-checkout. Couldn't they leave one or two regular checkouts so that people at least have the choice between friendly, personal service and self-checkout? I actually felt at home at IKEA. I really enjoyed browsing and being inspired. Almost everything in my house is made up of IKEA furniture (with some modifications). But something snapped inside me on Thursday when I saw this impersonal checkout process.

A nice place to stop by and check out new furniture and kitchens. Very friendly and helpful staff; I highly recommend it.

Everyone was friendly and helpful, but I didn't find it particularly cozy. It might have been due to the renovations to the restaurant and games area. But we didn't feel comfortable.

I'm actually a huge IKEA fan, but the self-checkouts are terrible. Yes, they help you very friendly, but it's incredibly stressful.

Very clear and everything you need

They're renovating, and that's okay. The restaurant is closed, so we'll have a hot dog instead. Unfortunately, there are no seats; we had to wait for the food to be handed out. It was quite a stretch for our legs; we're retired, but the young people also searched in vain for seats. Yes, our idea was to sit comfortably in the restaurant after shopping... There was no mention anywhere of when the construction work would be finished???

If you don't find anything in German stores, Ikea is the place to go. Now they only have self-service checkouts.

If things stay this way with the self-service checkouts...then that's the last time I'll be at Ikea. It's great to save about three employees for 10 hours a day and let the customers do the work themselves. I'd give it 0 points...unfortunately, that's not possible.

Take a leisurely stroll, don't just buy tea candles

A nice selection and friendly staff. Unfortunately, the piece of furniture had a small defect at the end, but that happens sometimes.

A large selection, many items are immediately available. The quality is absolutely excellent, and the service is always friendly and helpful. Thanks to the self-checkouts, shopping is quick – and, of course, the obligatory hot dog is a must at the end.

We bought a kitchen, specifically deciding against a discount because we thought Ikea would be better. But Ikea is simply complete garbage these days. We've been there four times now and had to exchange things because they arrived broken, completely wrong parts were delivered, or some parts were missing (the invoice showed the correct parts, but they only delivered the wrong ones or none at all). Of course, the fault could also have been with the shipping company. Once, we had to exchange the parts we had already exchanged again, or rather, one-third of them, because the wrong parts arrived again. Furthermore, the quality has gotten really poor. We have a tall cabinet with a pull-out frame, and only 50% of the plastic holders for the metal baskets fit. Half fit in well and fit perfectly, the other half doesn't fit at all, and you can't force them in because they break very quickly. Next time, I'll probably go for a discount! They have the same problems, but at least it's cheaper. However, I have to commend the employees at the returns counters; they are very competent, helpful, and friendly.

No, it's very confusing due to ongoing construction work. Only self-service checkouts, although there are enough staff at the checkout area and they're happy to help with any problems. So why not at least staff a "regular" checkout? The restaurant is also uninviting.

Cash payments are no longer possible

Nice decor, friendly and helpful staff. :) The second-chance corner near the cash registers is a great idea for giving flawed products... well... a second (cheap) chance :D As of September 2025, I'd like the restaurant back. I would be very grateful for a rough date for when the renovations will be completed. :)

The renovations, both inside and out, are underway, and the quick shoppers haven't been affected. It was a success. We'll be back.

I'm deeply disappointed. I've been looking forward to the Gifflar cinnamon rolls for months. But the essence of life (cinnamon rolls) wasn't available!!!!!!!!!! I drove to IKEA, walked through the entire building, and there were no Gifflar cinnamon rolls. That was probably my last time at IKEA...

Not so special at the moment due to the construction site

It is with regret that I feel compelled to write a very negative review today. The Billy shelf in Birke has been unavailable at the Chemnitz branch for months. Upon inquiry, we were simply advised to travel to Erfurt – an option that was simply not practical for us. Ordering through the branch itself seemed completely out of the question; the only way was via the online shop, which incurs an additional shipping charge of €15. This approach gives the impression of a lack of organization or even strategic intent, especially since, in this day and age, it should be considered good service to facilitate customer orders without any detours. Unfortunately, this disappointing experience was compounded by the delivery of a damaged shelf. Overall, this leaves the impression that customer friendliness and logistics optimization at the Chemnitz branch require considerable improvement.

Apparently, there's a shortage of employees right now, and it has nothing to do with the restructuring. I've searched in vain for help in the various departments.

It has everything you need and don't need in terms of furniture and decor. The food is good and affordable, and the hot dogs you can buy in packs are perfect for any child's birthday. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and they offer competent advice.

I wanted to buy a kitchen without an appointment. I was so fobbed off that I got the impression the employees didn't care about selling anything. It's simply a disgrace. I won't go there again.

Currently under renovation, unfortunately, my correct signage to the market hall or the signage. 1 euro for a hot dog without a drink. It's too expensive! We used to come for the cheapest food and usually bought more than we wanted. I'd rather go to other furniture stores where they still have good, affordable food!

Ikea usually gets 4-5 stars, but they're currently undergoing renovations, and it's hardly noticeable beforehand. There's no restaurant, and everything seems much smaller and not as nice as it used to be. Clear information about the renovations and the closure of the restaurant would be great—especially if you're traveling from far away.

I've been here quite often since I moved to redecorate my apartment, and I was here today too, but when I got to the checkouts, I was completely lost. Not a single checkout with human interaction anymore—in the future, there will be only 25 self-scan checkouts. The employees? Three people standing around, stepping in if you look puzzled. No, sorry, but if the employees just stand around in the future and we, as customers, do their work without any personal interaction or assistance, then I will drastically limit my shopping here or even avoid it altogether. That really annoyed me earlier, and I'll be doing my bulk purchases elsewhere in the future.

IKEA is always a highlight. I love the selection, the employees are friendly, and you feel at home. It gets quite busy from time to time, but the click and collect option is easy.

Beautiful modern Ikea, lots of space, large restaurant

The usual quality with excitement and games for all ages. Restaurant and bistro, famously delicious. We're currently renovating for our customers. However, this is no extra inconvenience. The staff here is also friendly and competent. Ikea is always recommended.

Unfortunately, the bistro was closed. We weren't adequately informed about this. This starts with Google. The bistro is closed for renovations. This should be large and clearly visible. This is one of the main reasons why guests visit you.

IKEA is always worth a stroll for new ideas. For many years, I've always received friendly service and advice. At the checkouts, I always received a smile or a friendly word. I was even more shocked today... Only self-checkouts. This means important jobs are being eliminated and more space is being made for digitalization, and interpersonal relationships are a thing of the past... I'm increasingly shocked by such a development and can only watch this behavior with sadness. I wish there were people at the checkout!

The store is currently undergoing renovations. I looked at a lamp in the store, but they didn't have the right color in stock. So I had to exchange it and order it online... A hot dog for €2 is crazy, too.

Dissatisfied with childcare in Småland We picked up our son from IKEA today and unfortunately discovered that he had been scratched during his stay. We weren't told a single word about this when we picked him up—no information or warning from the childcare coordinator. *What particularly annoys us is that the ID card is strictly enforced upon pickup, which we can generally understand. Safety is important, but when it comes to the actual supervision and safety of the children during their stay, the same level of care doesn't seem to be taken.* If an argument or even injury occurs, we as parents expect to be informed immediately. This responsibility was clearly neglected here.

Very relaxed shopping, with hardly any disruptions due to the renovations. Parking is also extremely convenient thanks to the large parking garage.

Always great, only the hotdog doesn't taste good anymore

Due to the renovation of the Chemnitz store, delivery of the sofa I want is unfortunately not possible. I find it a shame that in this particular case, during the renovation, it is not possible to have the furniture delivered to me in Chemnitz via another store (Dresden or Leipzig). I would even be willing to pay an additional fee. Unfortunately, I cannot arrange for pickup in Dresden or Leipzig.

Ikea Chemnitz Click & collect appointment August 11th, 8:00-9:00 I'll be there at 8:00, but it doesn't open until 10:00. 😡😡😡 Impossible—it's a disgrace.

I've visited and shopped at several IKEA stores in my life and have been quite satisfied so far. Last week, I bought a height-adjustable desk here at IKEA Chemnitz. I'm truly beyond disappointed with the experience I had with the employees here. They didn't offer good advice or treat me appropriately. The way they responded to questions and misunderstandings was truly outrageous. Especially when purchasing the desk, there were a lot of things to consider, as you had to buy many parts individually. The employees were neither willing nor able to answer questions, and when they did answer, it was a complete rudeness. I'm truly very disappointed with this store here in Chemnitz.

The furniture store is being renovated, so unfortunately, there's no restaurant at the moment. New fast-charging stations are available, but unfortunately, they're far too expensive. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We got everything we wanted.

Ikea is always worth a visit. Because the restaurant is currently closed and undergoing renovations, there aren't as many customers. Which, on the one hand, can be very pleasant. But I think it will be even nicer after the renovations.

We were in the kitchen department yesterday morning because we had questions about an online order and its availability. We were approached by a lady who, noticing our helplessness, came out of some sort of office (later we realized it was the kitchen planning department). She asked if we were family ......... We said no and told her we just had questions, as described above. She immediately became rude (sorry for the expression) and said that we couldn't do it without an appointment; a kitchen needs to be planned in a relaxed manner. We replied again that it was just a question about an order. She wasn't there for that, so we should make an appointment, and then very rudely referred us to her employee at the computer (who already had customers). We didn't know about the appointments, and besides, we just wanted information. Her demeanor was very arrogant and condescending. We then waited calmly until the man at the computer was free again, and we were able to clarify everything, including a larger order for furniture parts. Mr. Sens was very friendly and patient. A huge thank you for that. We left Ikea feeling satisfied. Perhaps the employees should be trained in customer service again. Not everyone goes to this furniture store every week and knows their way around.

The "lighthouse" in Neefepark—without IKEA, there would be no Neefepark anymore. The checkout and exit area are currently being modernized. It'll be okay.

A visit is always a pleasant experience; you can always find something. I highly recommend Click & Collect; it's really the fastest option.

We always enjoy visiting Ikea. Everything is neat and clean, and even the changing room is beautifully furnished and comfortable.

So, I love IKEA like many others! 💙 It's so diverse, inspiring, and practical! That's probably why you always buy more than you actually intended. I really enjoy going there. I usually research things online beforehand using my app, which works really well, and then you can quickly find the product you're looking for. Otherwise, the staff is always very friendly when it comes to advice and searching! IKEA makes life more beautiful.

Probably the smallest Ikea store in Germany and therefore more charming than the other XXL branches such as Dresden.

Unfortunately, it's being renovated... which I don't quite understand why they're renovating the restaurant and snack bar at the same time! I was very disappointed... also that a vegan sausage is a euro cheaper than a regular one!

Almost every month there is repair

Unfortunately, the order from Clic and Collect disappeared into nirvana. However, a very satisfactory solution was found thanks to very helpful employees. Therefore highly recommended.

It's a shame that the app (we had checked whether the products we wanted were in stock in Chemnitz) didn't indicate that the restaurant was currently undergoing renovations and was therefore closed. A coffee and a delicious cake are simply a must-have for an IKEA visit.
