Mensa Cafeteria, MEDICAL FACULTY MANNHEIM in Mannheim

The food is healthier than in Mensa of Mannheim University and cheaper as well! The portions are usually big enough. It's the best option for my lunch time, and I appreciate it!

You couldn't ask for a better one

I'm writing this review from the perspective of a student and celiac patient. Gluten-free dishes are rarely available, an average of 1-2 per week (not even dishes where ingredients can simply be omitted because even the sauces are made with wheat flour instead of a naturally gluten-free ingredient like corn or potato starch as a thickener). The cafeteria menu is unreliable. It has happened that entire daily menus were swapped for a different day of the week. This makes things even more difficult. It's important to remember that this cafeteria is attached to a university hospital. One would expect that this would mean more emphasis on allergy-friendly food options. The opposite is true. When you can eat there, the prices are very reasonable for students. The atmosphere is okay for a cafeteria.

How are people supposed to become healthy? Food contains a lot of sugar, carbohydrates...

Staff are usually very friendly. Distance rules are observed if someone breaks them. The vegetarian offerings are mostly noodles/rice with sauce, which is very high in carbohydrates. The pudding/yogurt is usually not vegetarian, which you only find out when you explicitly read the ingredients. Recently, a non-vegetarian soup was added to the vegetarian menu (same price as meat dishes, which are generally much more varied and balanced). It seems as if vegetarian cuisine hasn't arrived yet.

Sehr nett um Luft zu holen, wenn man jemanden besucht. Preislich etwas gehoben, Qualität der Speisen aber völlig in Ordnung.
