​Unfortunately, the service was a 1-star experience. We waited 50 minutes for two pizzas. When we asked about the long delay, the staff was unhelpful and dismissive of our frustration. We left feeling very poorly treated. ​I would give the pizza 5 stars; it was delicious.

My favorite pizzeria, I feel right at home here. The pizza is delicious, but the people there are even better—always warm, friendly, and in a good mood.

First pizza — perfect. Exactly what I wanted, no complaints. Second pizza — a glorious multi-cheese creation, dripping with mozzarella. A masterpiece… until it turned into biological warfare. Fever, gut chaos, relentless diarrhea — full-blown Salmonella invasion. The diagnosis: food poisoning. The source: no mystery — that cursed pizza. Now I’m living the dream — weak, grounded, and running toilet marathons like a true survivor.

One of the best, if not the best pizza in town. Fantastic service, fresh ingredients and great wine selection. 10/10

A must-visit when in Berlin! Delicious pizzas. Pleasant atmosphere, very friendly people. In English: just 'yes'! Very good value for money. There were six of us there at opening time. If you're going later with a large group, I would recommend making a reservation. After half an hour, it was almost full.

We arrived from Italy hungry and tired and went straight to Mater Pizzeria, which we'd heard great things about. Our expectations were fully met: a warm and welcoming atmosphere and delicious pizza, made with top-quality ingredients. We'll be in Berlin for a couple of days and will definitely return to Mater to try this delicious pizza again.

I went to eat their pizza a few months ago and Google asked me what I thought, so I decided to leave a review. Well... My partner works as a pizzaiolo and to me the dough doesn’t seem like a proper sourdough (impasto madre), but aside from that the pizza isn’t bad (though the dough needs to be revised), not among the best in Berlin. I’ve tried many others that are decisively better in quality, and I must admit that I also couldn’t digest it at night. The quality of food and drinks didn’t excite me, and the same goes for the atmosphere inside the pizzeria. That´s why 2 stars. Answer back on 25.10.2025 I remember being told that it was the concept of “impasto madre” and that it was even mentioned in the description of the online profile. That’s why I really wanted to try it, but something must have changed since then (website or dunno). Sorry, but it just wasn’t a 5-star experience for me in terms of my expectations and taste. I’ve tried others that were definitely better and worthy of 5 stars. That’s all. One has to accept that someone might think that, overall — considering taste, quality, service, and atmosphere — it’s not worth more than 2 stars. It’s important to accept other people’s opinions. Reading other comments, it really seems difficult for you to accept lower ratings, but in the end, everyone has their own tastes, right? Gute Nacht

I was at the bar across the street, starving. The wonderful waitress offered me the maternity ribs, telling me they were delicious, so I gave them a try! Honestly, I have no regrets; they're made and cooked on-site, homemade, inexpensive, and delicious. The staff was super welcoming despite the late hour I arrived. A huge thank you to everyone!

They live up to their name, as the pizza dough is made from mother yeast, the most distinctive of which is the 'mater'. Wow. You'll have to find it yourself in Naples. In many restaurants, the wonderfully original Napoli dough ends up being soft and heavy, but at Mater, it's absolutely perfect, crispy on the bottom, not overly thick on the edges, but just the right amount of softness and deliciousness. But the place is also very cool, with friendly Neapolitans who run everything themselves, making it authentic in the truest sense of the word. No operators with pseudo-pretensions or minimum-wage workers. A young team that runs the place with passion. The prices are totally fair, and the wine selection is small but good. You don't need anything more to go with your pizza. Reservations are recommended for a few reasons! The place is quite small, making it difficult for larger groups. So make sure you reserve early.

This Italian pizzeria in Berlin is truly worth a visit. Excellent pizza, light and perfectly cooked. Considered one of the best in the city, and reasonably priced.

Mater is a pizzeria that brings authentic Neapolitan tradition to the heart of Berlin. The atmosphere is modern and welcoming, with attentive and friendly service. The real highlight is the pizza, made with a light, well-leavened dough, as tradition dictates.

This pizza is amazing - one of the best of my life!!!! We had it to go but I had to eat half the pizza on the way home because it was just so good. The photo is of one of the slices that made it home. The people working there were kind, easy going, we had a very tasty limoncello while waiting on a summer day outside, seated on a casual bench, smoking a cigarette while waiting for this masterpiece of a pizza. I recommend the pizza bianca “salsiccia e friarielli” - the cabbage was just heavenly with the smoked cheese and salsiccia & good olive oil. Mamma mia the combination! I will come back, thank you.

Four of us went to the pizzeria last night. The menu was well-structured. They served one of the best pizzas I've had in a long time. The atmosphere was very pleasant, and the service was friendly and quick. In summary, anyone looking for a great pizza in Neukölln should definitely make a stop at Mater!

Very friendly service and very tasty pizza

The pizzas are truly incredible, the tomato sauce is mastered and the dough is airy and tasty. A umami bomb. The roasted aubergines in the Parmigiana were on point, with a hint of sweetness balancing the bitterness of the vegetable. The Campagnola was also great, with the kick of the Provolone cheese. For the pizzas I’ll be definitely back! Also a good selection of vegetarian pizzas, even some vegan ones, so that everyone can enjoy. One star less because of the way we could see a Wolt delivery guy being handled, in a very rude way that the staff wouldn’t allow themselves with the customers. Why are there 2 categories of people there?

While the pizzas were truly first-class and sublime (the eggplant in the Parmigiana practically melted in your mouth, and the provola in the Campagnola had real punch), the small side salad didn't really impress me (large lettuce leaves with cherry tomato halves and olive oil is just not a salad for me). The wines, a full-bodied Cerasuolo rosé and a very acidic orange wine, were exciting, but probably not worth the €7. For two, we paid €50 (05/25). The service was relatively friendly toward us, but you could tell they were stressed when it got busy. What I absolutely couldn't stand: A waiter behaved with complete disrespect toward a delivery courier. He shouted at him, insulted him, and chased him out the door with gestures like you'd give a dog. Hey, I know everyone's a little tense when they're stressed, but why are you taking it out on someone from Wolt? It's unnecessary.

Friendly service. And good pizza (although for my taste it could be a bit more sourdoughy with more fluffy edges). But what I really disliked, is that the ventilation is really bad. My clothes and my jacket was smelling many days after we were there.

I went on a Saturday night and, although I didn't have a reservation, they managed to squeeze me in. The waiter was super nice and I honestly think I had one of the best pizzas of my life. Definitely going back!

The tuna salad was also a substantial portion and was much more of a meal than the average salad at a restaurant would be. The natural wine was also delicious. Very much recommend. Without any doubt, my favourite pizzeria in Berlin. And being 100% italian I have an INCREDIBLY HIGH STANDARD for pizza. Do you want the proof? Go super simple, and ask the marinara (that no, FOR GOD SAKE - does not have any fish if not - every now and then - 1 anchovy in the center!!). and ask for marinara with extra tomato sauce. It's absolute perfection. Pizza must be simple: good ingredients, a good dough (the MOTHER is a must!), a good oven, and lots of love. Here, you get them all! Bravissimi! (And, btw, prices as they are supposed to be! Davvero persone per bene!).

Mater is simply “the best pizzeria I’ve ever been (just to say, I’m Italian so I know how a pizza should be). The food is like a sweet embrace, the menu is really various and all of the pizzas really worth a try. The Italian restaurant can be criticized in many ways. The ambience is relatively dark and the outside area is uninviting due to construction work. The prices of the food are high and the preparation time also takes too long even though the restaurant was not full. The atmosphere is relatively dark. Despite the extremely long wait for preparation, the quality of the food was excellent. I can say that it was one of my best food and pizza experiences in Berlin. Unfortunately, when rating the restaurant, I only have to give it 3 stars because the deficiencies clearly outweigh the problems and we didn't even ask during the entire meal whether everything was OK or whether we needed anything. I give these 3 stars solely for the quality of the food. Payment is also possible at the table but at the cash register and card payments only from 20 euros. If you only care about the quality of the food, this restaurant could be a suitable choice, but definitely don't expect even average service. The service and staff are just terrible!

Easily the best pizzeria in Berlin by far! From the absolute delicious pizza to the super friendly staff that welcomes you and maintains a great eating experience. Highly suggest the Ortolana pizza,as for the wine just ask them for a recommendation,they never ever dissatisfied me.The ingredients and the wine comes straight from regions of Italy so I’m definitely putting them as a number one in the city! 🤌🏻👌🏻

Had the Salsiccia e Friarelli pizza. It was pretty good; flavours and ingredients easily 4/5. Dough tasted good but was in general firmer than what I'm used to from a true pizza napoletana. Service was alright but stayed in the background and it felt almost like self service at times as I had to seek the attention of staff each time we needed something to drink, have plates cleared, order a dessert or pay. Despite this, recommended and worth visiting!

Visited on 06.08.2024 Even though the pizza was of good quality, I didn’t have any appetite anymore after being confronted by the extreme nervosity of the pizza chef. We all make mistakes, and I wanted to do a picture of the oven and kitchen setting: the pizzaiolo got very nervous and said that it wasn't allowed. I totally understand and would have apologised, but he continued insisting and then complaining with his colleague in Italian: still throwing some looks at us during our dinner. (Please note that the restaurant has an open kitchen) I found it very unwelcoming and almost aggressive. It really ruined our evening and we won't return back to this restaurant. Better go to a restaurant with some standard of courtesy towards the customers. Our biggest mistake was to have dinner there. N.B: we would advise the restaurant to put a note "No photo/no video" on its counter instead of being so rude.

Great Napolitana pizza from a proper wood fire pizza oven. Nice vibe, cool decor, always friendly service. The parmigiana pizza was amazing. Unfortunately only a weekly special, I hope they’ll make it permanent on the menu!

I felt like in a Italian Family, the amazing quality of the food and the Pizza is really light so that you can eat 2 of them . To end with a nice Wine and a cheers with the service that are always spinning around to keep everyone happy :)
