Marktcafé in Zwickau

A cozy ambiance inside, and a lovely view of the market square from the terrace, thanks to its slightly elevated location. We've been here several times in the past few weeks and have always received friendly and prompt service. Delicious food, such as schnitzel with creamed mushrooms and fried potatoes for €18, and for dessert, a wide selection of various coffees, as well as cakes and tarts.

I regularly visit this wonderful restaurant with my man. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, very tasty food, and an incredibly large selection of different types of coffee. Thank you all very much for maintaining the traditions of quality in everything. Prosperity to you!

A good cafe! I often go there with my grandchildren. Nice staff, fast service, delicious dishes for any requirements. I would like to recommend offering visitors to leave their recommendations for improving some aspects. A wonderful, cozy cafe, but some changes need to be made, for example in the interior. We wanted a relaxing coffee and cake on a Sunday afternoon. Even on our way to the cake counter, we encountered only stressed, unfriendly, and hectic staff. After waiting at our table for a while, and even approaching the waiter ourselves to ask for a menu, we still weren't served. I can't rate the food or drink; the service and organization were simply poor. I wouldn't recommend it.

There were three of us, and two coffees arrived after 40 minutes. The cake arrived after another 15 minutes, after we asked the overwhelmed and rude staff for it. The last coffee came only after everyone had finished their meals. The cake was delicious, but would have been even better with warm coffee. Unfortunately, I can't recommend it.

I didn't like the cake that much. We also ordered an "Italian thick chocolate," which tasted like chocolate soup at school, but rancid and overpriced (about 200ml for €5). There were also a lot of ice cream flavors, which we didn't try, but they looked good.

We have visited the café frequently over the past 10 years for various occasions (lunch, meetings with friends, family celebrations, etc.) and were always satisfied. Yesterday was different: We arrived around 11:30 a.m. to have a drink and then lunch. We sat on the terrace and were initially served quickly and friendly as usual. Unfortunately, it was very windy, and we decided to eat inside instead. I had previously arranged with the employee inside that a table by the window that had just become available would be reserved for us for a few minutes. After 3 or 4 minutes, we returned with our things and drinks to the table reserved for us, which, however, was occupied by a man. I pointed out to him that we had reserved the table, but received a rude response, and the short, stocky employee with the longer hair, who was working at the counter, began to insult us in a vulgar manner. I first explained to her politely that we had reserved the table with a colleague a few minutes earlier. The colleague in question, who had joined us in the meantime, was obviously afraid of the bartender and didn't keep her word, instead trying to talk her way out of it. To end the unpleasant situation, we wanted to go back outside to the terrace. The waitress followed us and suddenly wanted to take the money. Well, I paid and was about to leave the café when the bartender shouted loudly, "Did he pay?" This naturally gave the other guests in the busy café the impression that we were trying to cheat out of the bill. I confronted her about it, but the lady (who, however, was behaving in a completely unladylike manner and was displaying completely unprofessional behavior) remained uncooperative. The staffing shortage must be quite severe to employ such an employee, who behaves completely inappropriately towards both guests and colleagues (employees?).

Many thanks to the staff at the Marktcafe for making our 60th high school graduation reunion on May 22, 2025, a complete success. We all agreed: friendly, attentive service, excellent value for money, excellent quality and variety of food, and a cozy atmosphere. It couldn't be better. M. Opelt

So I won't be entering this cafe again anytime soon. We were there a few weeks ago because we just wanted to have a coffee. It was obviously full....we wanted to politely ask the gentleman behind the counter if there was still a table. Clumsy answer "I can't see around the corner from here" in a really disrespectful tone. We looked at it ourselves...guests looked stupid and there was no reaction from the staff either. The guy with the disrespectful attitude then shot around the corner. Then they left again. Won't be back in a hurry and don't recommend it to anyone!

At the next table, the guests were also surprised at the way she interacted with people. We weren't the only ones who noticed that this waitress' attitude belongs to the guest. We will continue to visit the market cafe, but we will be served by a different service person

Service is impossible, lazy, neither customer friendly nor business oriented. As many of the previous speakers have already reported, the service here is not working at all. At 1 p.m. the three of us showed up at the café for coffee and cake. All areas with benches (due to my bad back) were free and marked as reserved from 3 p.m. There was no way to place us there for an hour. Cake was delicious. There was no greeting or nice day or merry Christmas. Instead, you slapped the change on the table and went back behind the counter to chat with your colleagues. All in all, we advise against visiting there and will never go here again.

I regularly enjoy dinner here and have hardly had any negative experiences so far. The food tastes great, the service is always nice and courteous and the window seats offer a good view of the main market. Above all, I am someone who doesn't like to wait and stay in a restaurant for a long time. Sit down, order, eat, pay. And these points are met very well. I can recommend it.

The two of us came here for dinner. The service was excellent, both in terms of friendliness and speed. The food tasted very good, although the starter soup filled me up a lot. So I couldn't really enjoy my main course. But that was the only drawback. In any case, we were quite satisfied.

Unfortunately I can't give any stars. I wanted to eat something to eat at the big event on the main market around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, but I was pretty clearly refused. There would be a lot to do in the restaurant so all I could do was have a drink. Does the kitchen only have one stove??? And the colleague has nothing to do with friendliness! At such a big event in the heart of Zwickau, where there are also many foreign guests in the city, this is the right advertising!!! Maybe the operators should be swapped with those from the brewery! Luckily there is an Austrian alternative on the main market that served me and other hungry guests well! Unfortunately I have to click a star for the post to be read.

Difficult to reach by phone. Unfriendly service, disappears in the middle of a conversation. Ambience seems a bit run down. Payment by cell phone not possible. Had to leave my smartphone as a deposit so I could get cash.

Got a very tasty crispy chicken schnitzel and enjoyed impeccable service. Nice outside area. Only the occasional tram was a problem, but that's no one's fault (: If you look at it as an "authentic ambience", it's even more comfortable. We'd love to come back.

Very good food, friendly service, nice atmosphere. The tables could perhaps be decorated a little nicer. A vase with a fresh flower would enhance the whole concept.

At 8:03 p.m. you can't get any more spiced meat because the kitchen is closed... If the waitress hadn't come back after 15 minutes... that would be a huge effort. Not very customer oriented. Main course was okay. Not even the candle on the table was lit.

First of all I would like to make it clear that the food was really of a very good quality. Preheated plates, very good tasting roulades... So really tasty. The ambience was ok. It was quite cold but that is subjective. However, the one lady who was assigned to the service today was very difficult to deal with. I'm naturally a friendly and courteous guy and made room for the lady when she wanted to bring drinks outside with her hands full. There was not a look, a smile or a thank you. Everything could have been concentrated. When we left the restaurant we said goodbye to the bartender, but the lady repeatedly didn't have the time to say goodbye or smile. It's a shame because the food was really excellent. Portion size was ok... But unfortunately we are not a benchmark because we are gluttonous 😅 Best regards

We were there at coffee time for Mother's Day. There is a large selection of home-baked tarts/cakes. There are also many drinks to choose from. I highly recommend it. Simply always delicious.

Employees in the catering industry are certainly rare, but it is better not to meet this one employee at the market cafe (with a Slavic accent) and certainly not to hire her. We have never experienced such unfriendly behavior. In a harsh commanding tone, we were reprimanded in front of all the guests that she decided where we should sit down. We were a small group and left straight away because we weren't used to this kind of behavior.

Busy Easter, very friendly service, our dog was immediately given a bowl of water, food was very good, wonderfully hot and plentiful! Price-performance okay. We'd love to come back!

We wanted to buy a cake around half past two and take it with us, unfortunately there wasn't enough left at that time, so no cake was sold to us. ☹️

There were seven of us and we had to wait a long time for our food. There was no longer a court. The taste was very good, the rump steak was exactly right.

Nice cafe with delicious food but I have questions for the waitress (short blonde hair and Russian speaking), firstly she came and started speaking Russian but we are in Germany and want to speak German, secondly she was unfriendly and rude and stopped us from buying anything to drink. Third, she was rude to us after paying because we didn't leave a tip. But the other employees are also very friendly and no questions are asked.

Very cozy, delicious food, in the center of Zwickau

Ein sehr schönes Restaurant, es fehlen nur abgetrennte Bereiche. Es hat so ein Hallen Flair. Die Bedienung war sehr nett. Vom Essen war ich überrascht. Ich hatte Steak au four. Das Steak war auf den Punkt genau gebraten und sehr zart. Das Würzfleisch war wirklich hausgemacht, das hat man geschmeckt. Und es war ordentlich überbacken. Alles in allem ein sehr gutes Essen.

Ruht sich zu sehr auf den einzigen Lorbeeren, der guten Lage, aus. Ausstattung gut, Service und Essen nur im mittleren Bereich. Sonderwünsche werden gern angenommen, aber leider nicht realisiert. Update 12/2023: Das erste Haus am Platz? Immer noch keine veganen Gerichte! Eine Schande, die Deklassierung einer Stadt zur absoluten Provinz.

Nette Bedienung und lecker 😋 Essen. Eine schöne Atmosphäre, was will man mehr. Hoffe nur das man das man das im neuen Jahr halten kann.

Wir waren mit einer Gruppe da, hatten einen gemütlichen seperaten Raum, sehr freundliche ,aufmerksame Bedienung. Speisen sind sehr gut und das Tortenangebot super. Sehr zu empfehlen.

Ein schönes kleines (Kaffee) Restaurant. Das Essen war hier gut und die Kellner stets bestrebt. Leider, sind wir am Ende etwas vergessen worden. Wir sind sehr zufriedene Gäste und haben mit der Wahl des Marktcafès für unsere Familienfeier eine sehr gute Entscheidung getroffen. Nochmals ein herzliches Dankeschön!

Ein schöner Ort um zu schlemmen und sich zu entspannen. Das Servicepersonal ist höflich und zuvorkommend. Es ist zu empfehlen.

Update von 2023: Leider mußte ich inzwischen mehrfach feststellen, daß die Torten in der Qualität nachgelassen haben und damit für mein Empfinden den aufgerufenen Preis nicht mehr recht fertigen. Das finde ich sehr schade. Deshalb kann ich auch nur noch drei Sterne vergeben. hier gibt es täglich eine reiche Auswahl an frischen schmackhaften Torten. Bei schönem Wetter sitzt man ausgezeichnet auf der zum Markt zugewandten Terrasse. Das Cafe ist Sommer wie Winter immer gut besucht. Das Personal ist eigentlich immer freundlich. Die Preise bewegen sich etwas über dem Durchschnitt, sind aber noch vertretbar. Ich wurde hier noch nicht enttäuscht und komme gern hierher.

It was my first time there, food tasted great

Wir waren heute das erste und leider letzte mal in diesem Café. Man kann sich den Vorrednern nur anschließen. Unfreundliche Bedienungen die mit Ihren Jobs nicht zufrieden sind. Was die eine Bedienung ihrer Kollegin vor den Kunden erzählte.. Wir waren wirklich geschockt. Egal wie wenig Personal oder schlecht man bezahlt wird aber sowas haben wir noch nicht erlebt. Wenn man überfordert ist sollte man nicht in der Gastro arbeiten. Die lange Wartezeit aufs Essen hätte man außerdem mit einem „Entschuldigung es dauert aktuell etwas länger“ verschönern können. Das einzig Gute, dass Essen war gut und sehr ansprechend serviert. Wir waren die jüngsten (Ü30)- das Café ist eher was für die ältere Generation. Aufgrund der Servicekräfte können wir das Café leider nicht weiterempfehlen.

Waren innerhalb von zwei Wochen zwei mal zum Mittagessen eingeladen. Das Essen schmeckt sehr gut, die Portionen sind ausreichend. Personal / Service war beim ersten mal nett und zuvorkommend. Das Essen kam nach 45 Minuten (für 16 Personen). Beim zweiten Besuch (3 Personen) leider das genaue Gegenteil. Mitarbeiterin sehr unfreundlich. Wir hatten nicht bestellt. Viele Tische waren noch frei auf denen stand reserviert ab 14:00 Uhr (wir waren 11:45 Uhr da). Nachdem wir einen Tisch hatten bekam wir ca. 15 Minuten später die Speisekarten auf den Tisch geknallt. Beim bezahlen (bar) wurde einfach das Rückgeld behalten. Als die Mitarbeiterin dann ging sagten wir noch stimmt so. Daraufhin hat sie sich nur nochmal umgedreht und uns einen bösen Blick zugeworfen. Wir geben immer Trinkgeld aber das es einfach direkt behalten wird hab ich auch noch nie erlebt. Absolute Frechheit. Wir saßen relativ "zentral" dadurch haben wir auch viel mitbekommen. Zu vielen anderen Gästen war die Mitarbeiterin genauso unfreundlich wie zu uns. Wir kommen nicht wieder und ich empfehle es auch nicht weiter. Eigentlich schade da das Essen und die Gaststätte wirklich top ist aber das Personal leider alles kaputt macht.

nachdem im Brauhaus 13.45 schon Mittagsschluss war und das Personal sich lieber selbst verköstigte, dann wenigstens hier am Markt noch gut untergekommen. beste Lage am Marktplatz, schnelle Bedienung, gutes Essen

Tolles Cafe mitten im Zentrum, Innenbereich klimatisiert, Torten super. Bedienung war freundlich und flott, allerdings müssten die T-Shirts vom Personal mal erneuert werden. Das unserer stammte sicherlich noch aus der Zeit der Eröffnung. Sehr verwaschen und etwas fleckig, könnten aber Wasserflecken gewesen sein. Habe dieses Mal nicht nachgefragt, weil ich bei einem früheren Besuch eine patzige Antwort bekam, da sah das T-Shirt auch schon so aus. Aber ich gehe auch weiterhin dort zum Kaffeetrinken.

Man sitzt auch drin sehr bequem auf den Stühlen, tolle Einrichtung. Toiletten könnten sauberer sein..Torte schmeckt sehr gut. Die Bedienung lässt zu wünschen übrig..kein freundliches Wort, kein danke..vorallem kein Lächeln..schauen Gäste sehr grimmig an..

Wir finden es recht schön. Vom Preis her akzeptabel und es schmeckt auch.

Sehr gutes Essen, würde man gar nicht meinen da eher Flair eines Cafés. Aber das Argentinische Steak 🥩 perfekt auf den Punkt Medium👍👍👍👍gerne wieder wenn wir wieder in Zwickau sind🤗ups heute 28.7. 23 wieder hier um 19.50 Uhr…….kein Essen mehr ; Küchenschluss🤷‍♂️ geöffnet bis 23 Uhr….laut Homepage … na ja ☹️

Leider hatten wir sehr schlechte Erfahrung mit einer Bedienung. Sehr unfreundlich und nicht akzeptabel. Nachdem wir zu acht reserviert hatten (fast alle um und über 80 Jahre)wurde uns bei 30 Grad ein Tisch in der Sonne bereitgestellt. Alle anderen Tische im Schatten waren wegen Personalmangel reserviert und wurden nicht bedient. Einer Bitte um Wechsel unseres Platzes in den Schatten wurde trotz angebotener Hilfe nicht entsprochen . Nachdem wir unseren Unmut äußerten wurde die Bedienung extrem unfreundlich und verweigerte die weitere Bedienung. So etwas haben wir noch nicht erlebt und wir werden das Restaurant nie wieder betreten. Schade um die anderen Bedienungen die sich sehr viel Mühe geben.

Schönes Café, gemütlich auf der Terrasse sitzen und dem munteren Treiben folgen. Die Bedienung war freundlich, aber es war etwas unorganisiert. Nach 2 maliger Nachfrage kam trotzdem kein Espresso. Wurde vergessen, es gab auch keine Entschuldigung, das ist traurig.

War sehr oft da! Sonst alles okay gewesen! Heute leider nicht 20 Minuten gewartet! Bedienung ignorierte uns und nam keine Bestellung auf! Sind dann gegangen!

Das Essen war wirklich sehr lecker und reichlich und es gibt gutes Bier, leider wurde um 21.00 Uhr geschlossen und die Küche schon eine Stunde früher. Zu wenig Gäste, weiß garnicht warum.

Bedienung Personal eindeutlich viel mehr als 10 Sternen. Ich habe Nudeln mit Lachs bestellt sehr lecker 😋😋 leider zu kleine Portion als Vorspeise 👍aber als Hauptgericht finde ich ich hatte Hungerrrr 😩 😁
