Mama Thanh in Karlsruhe

Unfortunately, we've had another very bad experience at this restaurant. On our first visit about three months ago, we were charged a completely unjustified surcharge – especially since we hadn't even ordered certain components of the dish. We didn't say anything at the time and avoided the restaurant for a long time. Yesterday we gave it a second chance – unfortunately, with another disappointing result. We ordered two main courses, an appetizer, and three drinks. For the main courses, we simply asked for the sauce to be served separately – which shouldn't be an extra cost in a restaurant. We were all the more surprised when a four-euro "surcharge" appeared on the bill without comment. No notice, no question – it was simply added silently. This is unacceptable. As guests, you feel like you've been ripped off – and not just once, but on both visits. For us, this was definitely our last visit to this restaurant.

I don't know when I last had such a delicious bowl. Perfect, beautifully sticky rice, brilliant wakame, everything fresh, intense, nice service too. Top

Food was delicious, menu offers a lot of choice. Service was friendly. Minus point for the noise, when there is a lot going on you almost have to shout at each other, not the ideal place for a romantic evening... From 8 p.m. it became quieter...

The food was very good. The menu offers a good selection of traditional dishes. The service was also very friendly. The only thing to complain about was that we had reserved for six people, but one person canceled shortly beforehand. The service then asked several times whether there were actually only five of us, which we confirmed. We were told that next time we should please let us know in good time. After several questions from the staff, we asked if we had sat somewhere else - but they said no. Apart from the somewhat annoying comments, it was a nice evening

My favorite Asian restaurant. The food is delicious, the drinks refreshing, and the service excellent. Recommended for a pleasant dinner. Make a reservation before going.

Extensive menu with changing dishes/recommendations. The whole team is warm and you feel well looked after. Reservations are essential during peak times! The booking system works great.

The most delicious sushi I have ever eaten! The appetizer is delicious and the baked sushi rolls were just wow. The service was friendly and the welcome was very warm. But the atmosphere is quite loud and the tables are too close together, I found.

The dishes were all very tasty. With a large selection and also a day menu. The restaurant is busy and reservations are recommended. The atmosphere is cozy and the mix of German bar and Vietnamese restaurant is pleasant. The service ladies are very friendly and the food came quickly. We will go there again and recommend Mama Tanh.

MamaThan is super likeable as a boss. Food good and plentiful. Atmosphere loud but bearable. Price performance is consistent.

Utterly delicious. The salad dishes and the sushi were wonderful, and the staff are great. We really appreciated that there was no music (why do other restaurants insist on irritating people with it?) and that dogs were allowed. A wonderful find!

I like the restaurant, the maki, although not Vietnamese, were very good. It's restless, yes, it's turbulent, yes. But the place is buzzing because the food tastes good. And yes, you have to wait for the food, but it's obviously freshly cooked! What more could you want!!

We were there with our 6 year old son on Friday evening. We had reserved and got the table right at the door. It was February and very cold outside. The starter and meal for our son came relatively quickly after we ordered. Unfortunately we had to wait over 45 minutes for our sushi. During this time there were usually between 5-8 people standing in the middle of the restaurant area, waiting for their food that they had ordered to take away. The door probably opened and closed 50 times in the 45 minutes of waiting. This didn't create a cozy atmosphere in winter in a nice restaurant in the western part of town. When we asked “When can we expect our sushi” we always said it would take a while because it was freshly prepared. The sushi was really tasty too. It's just a shame that the atmosphere and the constantly opening door masked this. It would be nice if the restaurant operators would organize the pickup situation for "ToGo" orders differently. Because I can hardly believe the statement “that unfortunately there were only so many ToGo orders today”.

Yesterday we ordered food on the way home, when we were ordering the line suddenly went dead - Mama Thanh called us straight back. We were able to pick up our order on time, as ordered. It was super tasty. The vegetables are crunchy, the rice is just right and the duck is crispy. When we looked at the plates on site, it was clear to us that we definitely wanted to try the delicious dishes on site :)

Why the hype? The four of us had dinner on Friday evening and can't understand the current hype about Mama Thanh. The menu suggests a culinary delight, but the result is rather lukewarm. My chicken, potato and pasta curry was dominated by tasteless noodles and lacked spice and heat. In addition, the organization is horrible. We were served by 3 different waitresses and asked several times if we wanted to order drinks - even though we had already ordered. Despite having a reservation, we had to wait for a free table in advance. Meal time is strictly limited to 90 minutes, which is a bit sporty if you have ordered a menu with a starter, main course and dessert. I wanted to order a drink at the end, which was no longer granted because of the 90-minute rule. In general the atmosphere was very hectic and loud. The next 90-minute guests are always standing between the tables waiting for the next free table... All in all, neither the food nor the restaurant is suitable for a relaxed evening. Price/performance is largely ok - but not much more!

The food was delicious, but unfortunately the service left a lot to be desired (the younger girl was very nice though). We had dinner there on Thursday. Unfortunately the menu was carelessly placed on the table. We were also served the wrong beer and when we asked, we were told that it might have been the right one. Overall, the ambience and service seem more like a snack bar than a restaurant.

Sehr leckeres und liebevoll zubereitetes Essen. Fleisch und Gemüse waren auf den Punkt gegart, der Reis ebenso. Die Sauce hat das Gericht wunderbar abgerundet. Das Ambiente des Restaurants ist angenehm individuell gestaltet und gemütlich. Man trinkt hier gerne noch etwas nach dem Essen. Und das wichtigste zum Schluss – die Menschen hinter dem guten Lokal. Herzliche Freundlichkeit und professionelle Arbeit; hier ist man als Gast freundlich empfangen und hervorragend bedient. Danke!

Wir waren bereits zum 3. Mal zum Sushi und Bowl essen dort. Ich kann nur sagen es war alles ausgezeichnet. Ich kenne im Umkreis jedes Sushi Restaurant. Mama Thanh gehärt zu den TOP 3 hier gibt es auch ausgefallene Sushi Kominationen.

The main course was a masterpiece – superbly balanced and prepared with great attention to detail. The crowning glory was the dessert, which was a perfect conclusion to a thoroughly successful evening. The wine selection is particularly noteworthy. Each course was served with a perfectly matched wine, which ideally enhanced the flavors of the dishes and elevated the enjoyment to a new level. Mama Thanh is a culinary experience that I highly recommend. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

Although I called a few days ago and asked if it would be open on December 24th, 2024, I was assured it would be open and there would even be goose on offer. The end of the song I stood in front of closed doors. Whether I'll get something to eat there again remains questionable, I can get good roosters elsewhere too

Outstanding food, super fast and very cozy. It was pleasantly warm, not too loud and the service was great. We were served super quickly, even though it was really full and there were seven of us there. The food came quickly, starter, main course and dessert. Everything was super fresh, hot and super tasty. Great again. 💕

As always, clear five stars. ********************* We were only there for 3 small apple spritzers with the children, no plastic straws, nice to the kids, apple spritzer was delicious. The atmosphere is very peaceful, as the restaurant is divided into several areas. The staff was, as always, consistently friendly and accommodating. There was no hint of pushy behavior. A wide selection of dishes, all of which were of top quality and taste. The value for money is very good.

Top class restaurant. Great 🍣 sushi at a fair price and the warm dishes are also very tasty. Crispy duck and crispy chicken are highly recommended. Nice ambience and perfect service, I like to drive the 70 km one way. Table reservations are also highly recommended (you can also do this online). I made a reservation by email at 12:25 a.m. I was really surprised when the reservation was already confirmed by personal email at 12:30 a.m. Wow, so fast and especially at this time. The food is always delicious and made with a lot of love. The sushi in particular is the freshest in Karlsruhe. The atmosphere is very cozy and the staff is super friendly and attentive. A clear recommendation!

So I can cook Asian food better. What was that then? Miso soup bad, little addition. Then the main dish Cari gäGa with coconut milk, where is that? Soup noodles like from the supermarket and carelessly potatoes and carrots roughly on top. So no. Disgusting brew. I don't have to have it again. Service took forever, sometimes a lot was forgotten.

So first you have to wait over an hour for your food. Well, unfortunately that's not at all (really not at all!) special or in any way justified by the horrendous prices. I can get more, better and faster food at the Asian snack bar around the corner. The hype is absolute nonsense. Once and never again.

Geweldig personeel, ze zijn ontzettend gastvrij, aardig vriendelijk en behulpzaam. En ook enorm toegankelijk waarmee ze zelfs mega lief een bakje water verzorgde voor mijn assistentiehond! Daarnaast was het eten echt VERRUKKELIJK zo ongelofelijk lekker dat we de volgende nog een keer daar moesten eten! We konden de heerlijke maaltijd van de dag ervoor bij dit restaurant maar niet uit ons hoofd krijgen. Als het kon zouden we Mama Thahn graag mee naar huis nemen, zodat we ook in Nederland heerlijk van haar kookkunsten kunnen genieten! 😍🤩😋

We went there spontaneously for lunch last week. We got a place without any problems. The food is always very tasty and also a visual highlight. The atmosphere is simple and cozy, but the tables are close together due to the size of the shop. The service is friendly and nice. I can only recommend Mama Than if you want to eat authentic and delicious Asian food. Please keep it up!

We went to the Vietnamese restaurant Mama Thanh with our extended family and dog. We were all very enthusiastic about the delicious food.

We eat sushi here regularly, what is particularly noteworthy is the nice service and the quality, everything is really good here, we have never been disappointed, absolutely recommended

I'm disappointed. The portions are too small. The staff does not look at the customers. No cutlery, dishes arrive before drinks. Weird! I don't like to criticize restaurants but it wasn't at all what I would have liked. The chairs are not suitable for a restaurant. It's not an Imbiss!

We literally went to the bar around the corner of our Airbnb. As no nonsense as it looked, so good was the food. Every dish we ordered was far beyond expectations. The duck, the beef, the ice cream… .all superb. Not to mention the restaurant crew. Super friendly and caring. Everything you wish for when you go out for dinner.

The restaurant is centrally located in Weststadt and can be easily reached by public transport. Various dishes are offered here. I chose a salmon dish with fresh vegetables and rice, which tasted good. The restaurant still has outdoor seating. I would recommend making a reservation as it was very busy on Friday evening.

We had to wait 10 minutes even though we had a reservation, the server rushed us to order while we were still reading the menu. The food was pretty bland and didn't taste like proper Vietnamese food. The sushi was also pretty bad especially for the price. The place was very full and cramped. Pretty disappointed.

This is in my view absolutely the best Asian restaurant in Karlsruhe. The sushi is fantastic and freshly made to order. I can also recommend the Thai curry with duck and the spicy sauce. Mama Thanh is a wonderful host - we will go again soon!
