Mai thai in Köln

I ordered 2 main courses and 2 small starters to take away today. When I got home I noticed that the sauces for the starters were missing and the entire meal was very salty, not to say; totally over salted. It's a shame I used to eat there very often, but the food today was inedible and by no means cheap. Apparently there has been a change there now.

Cheapest ingredients possible, the chefs have never seen a real Thai green or red curry in their lives. Massively overpriced too. €60 for 2 poor mains, 2 Kolsch, and one upset stomach. The place used to be great but is under new, possibly mafia management (like much of Cologne) - no receipts given.

What's the point of simply having negative reviews deleted via Google? Then stay away from such questionable restaurants! Unfortunately, there are no zero points. Food horrible. Ingredients, taste and preparation have absolutely nothing to do with Thai cuisine. Doesn't have to happen again.

Excellent food, friendly service and beautifully decorated restaurant. Very close to the christmas market too (They also serve gluhwein)! I was obsessed with the duck with fried rice, you have to try it! I can't wait to come back to Cologne and eat here again.

The place has a good location and service but the food is rather bad and expensive. Ordered Pad Thai and the noodles were overcooked. On top of it, they only accept cash. Avoid this tourist trap.

We were actually planning on going to the Christmas market at the Heumarkt, it was so full that we went to Thailand for dinner for the first time in May, a small, cozy restaurant with a bar and selling cocktails, even though it was very full, we were there quickly and nicely served, we had to wait longer for our food (1/2 hour) but when it came we were very satisfied, the duck was on point, crispy and tender on the outside, the pork was very tasty and the vegetables and the sauce Also, the staff tried hard despite the large crowd and were nice, we felt comfortable and would love to come back when I'm in Kölle again😉🍹👍👍

We came to the Cologne Christmas market and discovered this little Thai May restaurant... very delighted with what we ate, impeccable welcome, fast service. I highly recommend it if you go through it.

The food here was amazing! We ordered the spring rolls and chicken wings for starters, and Thai green curry for mains. Thoroughly enjoyed all the dishes would recommend if you’re in Cologne !

This was hands down the best Thai food we have ever had in our lives and we eat it frequently. We were visiting Germany from the states and came upon this restaurant and decided to go in. The atmosphere is great and the staff was amazing! We got Kolsh's and a Pina Colada which were all delicious but the star was the fried pork belly with vegetables listed under "specials". It was literally the best food I may have ever had. If we are ever back in Germany we already discussed stopping in Cologne to eat here again. Truly you will not regret stopping in!!! Thank you to the staff for such a rememorable and delicious meal :)

The worst Thai I've ever been to - and it's not cheap either. It's better to go to the Thai-Viet street food snack bar, for example, which is much better and cheaper. Since the owner uses objective details in unpleasant reviews to get Google to delete it as slander, I won't go into the details.

We really liked it. Good menu with a lot of selection. Unfortunately we were only there to drink cocktails, the cocktails are large, with not too much ice, but the taste is standard. The food that was served around us looked very good. I'll come here again to eat.

IF YOU HAVE A NEGATIVE EXPERIENCE, IT'S BEST TO UPLOAD THE INVOICE DIRECTLY! ADDENDUM, OR REASSESSMENT FROM MAY 2024: Unfortunately, the restaurant is now in new hands and no longer under Thai management. The service was a complete disaster. Out of three drinks, one was forgotten, no smile, not a hint of friendliness. Not a single service! There are no longer warmers for keeping the dishes warm, which means the whole thing gets cold extremely quickly. The dishes are just slapped carelessly onto the plate without any decoration. Tofu is no longer available in the vegetarian dishes - apparently too expensive, although the prices have risen considerably. The vegetarian Thai curry wasn't nearly as much as the lunch menu used to be. An absolute disgrace for the price. The sauce had the thin consistency of a clear broth. The taste of the duck was ok, but fried noodles were ordered as a side dish which cost a whopping €8. The rice for the other dish was correspondingly less, but there was no financial deduction. And the side dish was really a side dish. A few spoonfuls of fried noodles without anything on a small flat plate. There was cutlery on the table, but no spices left anywhere, such as salt, pepper, soy sauce or hot chili paste. There was no response to criticism or questions, but people just looked around as if they were an unwanted insect. The tables around us were no different, but the criticism was only expressed quietly at the table. The restaurant is entirely in Arab hands - so many are afraid that the criticism will be perceived as racism. Clear information: I don't care what nationality anyone is. The service was simply terrible and incredibly unfriendly! The food is less than mediocre and the cocktails can no longer keep up with the previous owner. All in all, an extremely disappointing experience! Unfortunately, after more than 20 years, this was our last visit! REVIEW 5 YEARS AGO: So far we have always had great food (completely glutamate-free if requested!) and friendly service. Despite the exposed tourist location, prices have remained stable and affordable over the years. Sure, the toilets could be renovated, but let's be honest: they've always been clean for us and I don't eat in the toilet either. So 5* for the overall package of food and staff!

My girlfriend and I recently visited the restaurant but were unfortunately disappointed overall. In our opinion, the food did not correspond to what we expected as authentic Asian cuisine. The dishes had a striking salty note that was dominated by soy sauce, drowning out other flavors. The meat was also a bit dry and not as tender as we would have liked. Considering the portion size and taste, we didn't think the value for money was justified - they charged €7 for plain water. My friend had already written a review about it in which she described her impressions, but the restaurant deleted it because it was considered offensive and she was accused of defamation. I would like to emphasize that our aim is simply to share our personal opinion about our experience and to give other guests as honest an impression as possible.

Seldom eaten so badly. Eat only lukewarm and there is no sign of sweet and sour. Not to mention the chicken, a total of 5 pieces, the rest just hard vegetables. Little bit of friendliness either...

The food was very good, had a lunch menu, the vegetables in the starter soup could have been a little softer. Service very quick and very friendly. Prices are decent, but the location at Heumarkt is also very central.

The starter tasted a bit too sour for me and the main course lacked the typical variety of flavors of Thai cuisine in my mouth. -- The men's toilets were in very poor condition. The floor was sticky and two of the three urinals were either completely broken or almost broken. After several years I checked my previous rating: the soup tasted good this time. The main course was also delicious. This time the interaction worked.

As a true Cologne native you go once and never again! This is a pure tourist trap, bad service, bad food and miserable drinks but steep prices. Price/performance poor. If you want something good, then you pass it by! Clearly, not a recommendation!

Food was completely swimming in oil. Sweet and sour sauce consisted of tomato paste, sugar and butter. Vegetables almost raw. Poor portion of rice for two people. Hardly any meat and instead of beef fillet, tough rubber meat. Multiple harassment at the table by beggars. The waiter was waiting and was in the restaurant next door, which is why payment was associated with a long waiting time. Overall, poor value for money. Went without tipping as the disappointment was so great!

an unforgettable dining experience! The atmosphere is warm and authentic, the service friendly and attentive. The dishes are a feast for the senses: the Tom Yam Gung soup is perfectly seasoned, the green curry with chicken is velvety and aromatic. Fresh ingredients and careful preparation are noticeable. Generous portions and fair prices make Mai Thai a must for Thai food lovers. I look forward to my next visit!

Short version: RUN‼️ Long version: It’s not authentic Asian food at all, tastes like nothing but soy sauce. My tongue is still sore from all the saltiness. I believe in Asia they use other ingredients too😅 Meat is dry AF, feels like chewing paper🙂‍↕️ Also very overpriced, if you wanna spend 20€ on pork sinking in soy sauce and 7€ on plain water, be my guest🫡

Are duck with vegetables and it was very good, if you come before 11 you can get good food 👍

The food was OK, but not particularly good either. But the prices were too high for that. The central location and the many tourists spoil the price-performance ratio.

Very pleasant atmosphere and one of the few really honest tourist restaurants

Yesterday with heavy rain and thunderstorms we were sent off the terrace even though we had taken something to drink. We only got up to let more people stand under the shimmers. Even when we told the manager that we had ordered something and would like to drink it up wherever we had ordered it, he wanted us all to leave. And there weren't many people... So we continued on with a glass of Mai Tai. And with us there were at least 30 people who actually wanted to eat or drink something. This is not good advertising and there were people who were really scared of the storm... This isn't a restaurant business but they just want money

The awning was simply pulled in even though so many people were seeking shelter from the rain at the CSD. I helped attach the intermediate part of the umbrellas. We drove home soaking wet. Very antisocial

Food was very, very tasty. Service extremely friendly. Cutlery and crockery are already very worn. But we would always come back.

Beef tenderloin was very dry and never tenderloin. The pork dish was also dry. The cocktails were also poor. We enjoyed the same thing much better.

Excellent! We had 3 starters, 2 main courses, 1x pasta extra. Service couldn't be better, no criticism of the food. If you want to eat well, this is 100% the right place :) We also looked at the prices at the beginning and they are justified. We'd love to come back :)

The Mai Thai is centrally located at Heumarkt and has both an indoor and outdoor area. The food is tasty and offers a variety of dishes. I was served quickly and the prices are reasonable. My dish was nothing special but absolutely fine. I would be happy to come back there again.

2/5 stars, value for money not given for Asia! 3 small pieces of banana for €7.50 and a Thai curry for €19, rice is cheap and has no quality. So that was nothing... the only good thing is the location.

Very good Thai restaurant right on the Heumarkt. Very friendly, attentive team. The food is very good, the cocktails are delicious. If you love Thai cuisine, just go there and enjoy. We were in the great city for three days and stopped there twice. Warm Greetings from Potsdam.🫶

If I'm ever in the old town, I'll definitely eat there again. Have been there 3 times so far and have always been very satisfied.

A year ago great location. Now unfriendly service and prices spoil your appetite... "Can we have noodles as a side dish instead of rice?" Would be at an additional cost. How much: 8 euros🙈 Asked three times whether this was serious. Ok - we finished drinking and left money for delicious food somewhere else. It's a shame - another less good address in Cologne. But it was also very empty for a Friday evening in the restaurant - including our table, only 3 tables were occupied. Two of them only drank cocktails.

The soup 21 and the main course 403 were simply top. Very friendly rental worker

The Long Islands are not recommended. The captain morning takes on too much flavor and they taste too much like alcohol (I usually like drinking Long Island). The Mai Tai is ok

We made reservations for four people and there were no problems choosing seats. The food was served very quickly and we all really enjoyed it. Next time we would like to come back and eat at Mai Thai in Cologne. Kind regards from four Saarland girls <3

Als het restaurant zich niet zou voordoen als zijnde Thais dan had ik een hoger aantal sterren gegeven. Wat ze voorschotelen heeft weinig met de Thaise keuken te maken. Het is eerder Aziatisch met een Duitse twist. Op zich niet slecht, prijs/kwaliteit zeker in orde, maar wie echt authentiek Thais wil eten is hier aan het verkeerde adres.

Wir waren mit einer Gruppe dort, mitten im Weihnachtsmarkttrubel. Der Service war einwandfrei, zuvorkommend, zügig und ohne Stress. Das Essen sehr gut; wir waren sehr zufrieden.

Oh man... da bestellt man Cocktails, die werden nach 20 Minuten gebracht. Sex on the Beach bestand zu 70% aus Grenadine-Sirup und ist einfach nur süß... Die Tische sind klebrig und dreckig... Auf Nachfrage ob man den Tisch säubern könnte und den "Müll" der getrunkenen Cocktails bitte mitnehmen könnte wird lieblos alles in ein Glas gestopft bzw geworfen und mit schlechter Laune mitgenommen. Nachdem wir dem Kellner signalisiert haben, dass wir, nachdem wir rund 15 Minuten vor leeren Gläsern gesessen haben, dass wir gerne noch was trinken wollen bestellten wir eine 2. Runde. 1x Cappuccino und 3 Cocktails. 15 Minuten später kamen 2 Cocktails und der Hinweis Cappuccino geht nicht, Maschine defekt und 1 Cocktail wurde vergessen. Die Kellner bekommen kein Lächeln über die Lippen, nichts freundliches und ma hat das Gefühl, dass sie absolut keine Lust haben zu arbeiten... Mein Fazit: Danke, nicht nochmal...

Cozy and friendly atmosphere with nice staffs. Quite above standard Thai food, PadThai is a bit too sweet and overuse Tamarind, the Peaking duck is very good👍🏼 and crunchy. Soup is not that good(too salty), it needs more lemongrass and galangal to get the right flavour. Other things are ok 👍🏼 merry Christmas ✌️

Nice place with a good athmosphere inside. Food was served very quickly and was tasty. However, service was quite chaotic. We waited for 15 min for someone to remove the dirty stuff from the previous customer on our table. When you enter, you immediately see the bar covered in dirty plates and cups. It needs to be mentioned that my visit took place on a Saturday during Christmas market.

Alles in allem ernüchternd. Hatte Hähnchen süß sauer bestellt. Erstmal müsste ich feststellen, dass anders als in der Speisekarte beschrieben hier pilze enthalten waren. Okay sucht man die halt raus. Aber das auf dem Bild abgebildete Hühnchen war alles, der Rest nur Gemüse. Einer meiner Freunde hatte Ente. Hier war mehr als doppelt so viel ente auf dem Teller zu finden. Als ich nachgefragt habe, ob das nicht es was wenig sein, würde ich angepamt da wäre schließlich überall Hühnchen. Sehe ich etwas anders. Beim kassieren würden wir nochmal gefragt, ob alle in Ordnung war. Ich habe nochmal nett drauf hingewiesen. Mir wurde dann gesagt, es war mehr als ausreichend Hühnchen und ich hatte für 16€ nicht mehr zu erwarten. Wenn ich was anderes möchte, soll ich in ein anderes Restaurant gehen. Das werde ich dann auch tun.

Ich hatte Hähnchen süß-sauer gewählt und musste feststellen, dass hier Pilze enthalten waren die nicht in der Speisekarte ausgewiesen sind. Da ich keine Pilze esse hat dieses mir nicht ganz so gefallen, da ich diese alle aussortieren musste. Ansonsten hat das Essen gut geschmeckt und der Preis mit knapp 16 € geht auch in Ordnung.....

Ich hatte Hähnchen mit Ingwer, wobei der Ingwer teilweise ganz schön vorgeschmeckt hat. Ansonsten sehr lecker. Das bestellte Essen war schnell am Tisch. Die Bedienung schnell und nett.

Das Essen war sehr lecker wie immer, doch anscheinend, gibt es einen neuen Koch, der nicht an Gewürzen spart. Schärfe ist grundsätzlich OK, nur es sollte nicht mit Salz überwürzt werden. Hatte noch nie soviel Durst nach dem Essen.

Von außen unscheinbar, aber sehr leckeres Essen! Kommen gerne wieder, absolute Empfehlung.

Nett im thailändischen Stil eingerichtet, direkt am Heumarkt. Das Essen war sehr lecker und auf Wunsch auch scharf mit frischem Chili gewürzt und ohne Glutamat denke ich. Sehr nettes Personal. Nächster Parkplatz ist die Tiefgarage Heumarkt.

Das Essen war lecker, der Service sehr nett und „bemüht“. Die Atmosphäre ist typisch Thailändisch. In so einem Restaurant erwartet man eigentlich Thailänder-dies war nicht der Fall, jedoch kennen sich die Kellner gut mit der Speisekarte aus.

Überraschend leckeres Essen. Wir hatten eher mit Touri-Durchschnitt gerechnet. Der Cocktail war eine Wucht! Die Kommunikation mit dem Service hakelte ein wenig, das wurde aber weggelächelt ;-)
