Best Indian restaurant I know. Every time I'm in Hamburg, I come to eat.

DANGER !! RIP-OFF!! At every other, reputable Indian restaurant you get a small basket with bread and some dips from the kitchen as a greeting. Here too, only here they cheekily charge 15€ (!!!)!! The "boss" (who, by the way, can never be spoken to and is cowardly hiding somewhere) and the entire fraudulent team should be ashamed of themselves!! By the way, the food wasn't anything special, everything was pretty bland.

Stopped here as part of a culinary city tour. Restaurant is beautifully designed, waiters were friendly and attentive. Vegan ragout with rice wasn't really my thing. Mango Lassi was OK, but I've had better ones. Menu is very worn out and needs to be updated.

I can't understand these good reviews at all. I've never eaten such miserable food. A big disappointment for the price, I don't understand where the reviews come from. Fortunately, we were already aware of the rip-off through the reviews here, which meant we were at least able to avoid it. In addition, the table was so wobbly that the candles almost flew around your ears. In addition, the tablecloth at the edge was so dirty that we left the restaurant with our pants completely dirty from leftover food. Uffffff...

There was a delivery issue , but "Rahim" talked to me and we found a really good solution, very cooperartive during Lieferservice.

From reception, the door is opened, the table is assigned to leaving, the door is also opened here - a perfect evening 👍. The service is exemplary, the question of spiciness, mild, medium, spicy or authentic is asked when ordering, starters are delicious. Food especially, for me one of the best, if not the best Indian in Hamburg. It was also nice that I got a compliment saying 'you chose well' 😉 We'll be back

An absolutely amazing experience from start to finish! As soon as you enter the restaurant you feel at home, but the real star of the evening was definitely the head waiter. This person is simply stunning - charming, funny and with a charisma that lights up the whole room. His humor is simply unbeatable, and he manages to not only put a smile on your face, but also bring a hearty laugh to the table. You almost wonder if he's secretly a comedian! And if that wasn't enough, the food was also to die for. Perfectly prepared, lovingly presented and a real highlight in terms of taste. This combination of excellent food and service that makes you feel very special makes the restaurant an absolute insider tip in Hamburg. The next time I'm in town, one thing is certain: I'll definitely come back - for the culinary delights, the great atmosphere and of course for the best dose of humor you can get in a restaurant!

Warning... rip off... We went there for dinner on the weekend. Basically everything is good. Service was pretty quick, food was okay too. But: At the beginning I was asked in the German/Indian dialect in the hustle and bustle if we would like some bread. Since it's quite normal to get a little something before dinner, I of course accepted the offer. Then a bread basket and 4 small pots of sauce arrived. I was a bit surprised about the size. On the bill was this bread basket including sauces for a total of 11.50 euros. I would never order something like that in my life. I also ordered a cola. 0.5 liters were served for 6 euros... This way you can also generate additional income. But I call that a rip off. This has happened to other guests here several times. Too bad. Actually a nice place. But they seem to rely on passing customers who won't come back anyway. It happened the same way at our table next door. I'm going to get the consumer advice center and the trade inspection office involved.

If you are frustrated by Indian restaurants in Germany serving food that just isn't spicy, this place is for you! They have a scale of spiciness from 1 to 6, with a level 5 already genuinely packing a punch. But it wasn't just hot, it was both beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. Quite possibly the best Indian restaurant I have been to in Germany so far.

Were there for lunch. Food came super quickly and was really tasty. Chicken may be slightly dry, but absolutely delicious with sauce. Pakoras are also recommended as a starter. Almost everything is gluten-free and well declared. The spiciness is asked for when ordering and in our opinion it is a good choice

Everything is consistent here. We felt very comfortable here from the reception to the farewell. The ambience is harmonious, the staff is very courteous and attentive, the food is absolutely recommendable and authentic. The menu takes you straight to India with additional family photos and little notes. Thank you for this little short trip to another country. Amazing experience at Maharaja! The food was delicious, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. The ambiance was cozy, and the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. Highly recommend trying the starters chilli chicken & mixed pakoras and Tandoori chicken—it’s a must! Definitely coming back for more!

Minors ripped off! Small informal question “some more bread” and the bill said 26 euros for bread.

The dishes are from different regions of India. If you are looking for authentic Indian cuisine, you will find it here! If you don't like the smell of incense sticks, your chances are bad. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The ambience is comparable to a middle class restaurant in India, I personally felt very comfortable. We got a table without a reservation, but it is very full and I would recommend reserving in advance.

We discovered the Maharaja by chance and spontaneously got a table for two people at 9 p.m. It was excellent: good food, very friendly service and top value for money. Absolutely recommended.

It was one of the best Indian restaurants I have visited. It is as authentic as it can get. The staff was friendly and polite and they recommended dishes as well. They also had really regional Indian vegetable curries, which normally other Indian restaurants do not have. Would totally recommend it.

I went there yesterday with a friend, the food was great! There are many vegetarian dishes, you can choose between 1-5 in terms of spiciness. The place is really cutely decorated. The waiters were in a very good mood, making visiting the restaurant really fun :-)

We discovered this restaurant on a side street in St. Pauli and spontaneously got a table without a reservation. The food tastes excellent, there is a large selection (including vegetarian dishes) and special requests are also taken into account, such as changing the dishes or adding more sauce. Top! The staff is really very, very friendly and accommodating, great service, but unfortunately everything is a bit cramped. Definitely recommended and a very good choice in Hamburg!!

Visited Hamburg in June with my friend. We stayed in the hostel across the street of this restaurant and it looked so cozy and cool we just had to try it. Food was incredible, staff very friendly and kind and the place is so pretty. Definitely would recommend!!

We always eat at Maharaja's, on special occasions but also just for lunch, and it always tastes super fresh and delicious. The menu offers an impressive selection of authentic Indian dishes and every single one we tried was a real treat. The flavors were perfectly balanced, the spices harmoniously balanced, and you could taste the freshness and quality of the ingredients in every bite. I would particularly like to highlight the Chicken Vindaloo. Price-performance ratio is mega. The service is also very attentive, friendly and always willing to give recommendations or respond to special requests. There was often dessert on the house. It's obvious that there are people working here who love their work and take pride in providing their guests with an unforgettable experience.

No wishes left unfulfilled. We wanted to have a quick snack - then we passed by by chance. Something for everyone, with and without meat. The portion sizes are also great. It tasted wonderful and we would love to come back!

Food Quantity is very Low. The cost of food is expensive according to the Quantity served. I ordered Veg Biryani and I was very Hungry but the Quantity served was very less where I was still Hungry although spending huge amount of money. I will never come again.

Wir kommen schon seit Jahren und heute war das letzte mal. Wie schade, aber bewusst über den Tisch mag man dann doch nicht gezogen werden. Wie hier schon in mehreren Bewertungen erwähnt, bekam ich statt eines ausdrücklich kleinen Getränks ein großes. Ich dachte das wäre ein Versehen also was soll's. Aber nun habe ich in den Bewertungen mehrfach wiedergefunden, dass statt kleiner Getränke einfach die große Variante für den doppelten Preis gebracht wurde. Auch die Nummer mit dem "möchten Sie etwas Brot dazu" - welches dann insgesamt mit 7 Euro auf der Rechnung landete, und dem "Chutney-Teller" für sechs Euro, der aus den typischen 5 kleinen Sößchen bestand, die man sonst kostenlos bekommt, haben wir genauso erlebt wie hier bereits von anderen Gästen beschrieben. Bei den Soßen wurde nicht mal gefragt, ob wir sie denn möchten. Unter aller Kanone ! Wir kommen aus Hamburg, kennen den Kiez gut und von so dreisten Maschen haben wir in den 80ern zuletzt gehört. Erlebt hatte ich sowas selbst noch nie. Schlagermove als Revival mag ja ganz witzig sein. Ein Revival des alten Kiez-Nepps ist es nicht. Das Konzept sollten die Inhaber vielleicht nochmal überdenken, denn das Essen an sich ist eigentlich sehr lecker. Aber wenn man für dumm verkauft wird, wirkt auch die Freundlichkeit der Bedienung nicht mehr als aufgesetzt. Ich bin echt entsetzt und stinksauer. Macht es gut - bzw. besser. So eine Masche solltet ihr eigentlich nicht nötig haben.

The food was delicious and the service was very friendly. But (besides the fact that you have the feeling that you are being rushed through very quickly so that the table can be occupied as often as possible in one evening): We were offered (as in other reviews) a 'bread basket' with dips instead of a Nan bread that we actually wanted, without being told that it costs €15, but that the Nan bread would have only cost €3.50. A bit cheeky not to mention the price here and only mention it when asked. The bad surprise came with the bill -

Unfortunately, we only noticed this morning that we had also been charged for the supposed starter (greetings from the house). We were asked if we would like some delicious bread, but we are used to receiving a greeting from the kitchen from our Indian man and thought it was on the house. Today we did the math again and realized that we paid around €15 for bread and sauce. We don't think that's fair and therefore we wouldn't recommend it.

We were here twice, once we had main courses, once different starters, both times: great service, very, very friendly staff. Very tasty food, good wine list. We sat outside both times, which was always nice, only 2 minutes from the Reeperbahn and yet so relaxed and quiet. Totally uncomplicated and comfortable!

We went to this restaurant by chance, passed by and found it interesting. As soon as we entered, everyone was extremely friendly and welcoming. The ambiance has very beautiful decor, an intimate and welcoming atmosphere, candlelight, and Indian music. We ordered vegetable crepes, the dough was very different, soft, dry and tasty, I recommend it. We also ordered some shrimp and bread as a starter, which were delicious. We ordered a single main dish for both of us, a shrimp biryani, the seasoning was incredible. Very tasty dish, there is a lot of it, we shared it and were very satisfied. We also ordered a beer and a water. In total, we spent €49, it was very cheap for the amount of things we ate. If you have the opportunity, I think it's worth getting to know.

Everything about the restaurant was good. You can tell that there is Indian cuisine adapted to the Reeperbahn. Service was friendly and the food came quickly. Unfortunately neither I nor my wife were satisfied with the main course + starter. Still very tasty. But I think the prices and performance are rather poor. Unfortunately, late in the evening we both had to stop our Reeperbahn stroll because we felt our stomachs grumbling and the toilet was calling...

Naan was brought to our table, which we hadn't ordered and we thought it was “bread that you get before your meal like in a Turkish restaurant”, but they charged €40 for it! Without saying anything! And €6 for dips! We hadn't ordered any of this and it wasn't said that they would take any money for it. This is a complete rip off and I would not recommend the restaurant!

Da unser angesteuertes Restaurant nicht geöffnet hatte, mussten zu einer Alternativen greifen. So entschieden wir uns für das Maharaja. Wir alle waren positiv überrascht, denn das Essen schmeckte sehr gut und auch authentisch. Daumen hoch!!

If you want something quick to eat but don't want to go to a fast food joint, this is the place for you. Since we were only outside, I can't say anything about the atmosphere inside. Small beer garden benches and tables outside. The wine selection is manageable. The service was very friendly and attentive. We also received two starters even though we only ordered one, but we didn't complain (our own fault) because it looked and was so delicious. Drinks and food came quite quickly, as already mentioned. Unfortunately, you can't get a warmer outside for the food, which then quickly gets cold. Price performance is OK.

We spontaneously went for a birthday dinner for my wife with 13 friends 2 babies and a birthday cake after my reservation got cancelled for another restaurant close by. The waiters were very helpful and easy going and we really had an amazing time and a great birthday dinner with many treats and even with a little bit of dancing😀 I cannot emphasize how friendly they were. And happy wife happy life🤷🏻‍♂️

As others have already written, we - to put it kindly - cheated here to squeeze even more out of the guests. Ordered naan once, billed four times. Papadam with sauces another 10€. You can tell that they are mainly targeting tourists who won't come back anyway. Personally, I didn't like the food either. Even if it weren't for the bread thing, I wouldn't go there again because I just didn't like the food.
