Bad service, unfriendly boss and the cleanliness is also questionable... The only nice thing about our visit were the friendly construction workers in front of the restaurant.

The Gandhi is really an absolute recommendation for anyone who wants to enjoy excellent food with excellent service. My partner and I were there yesterday for the first time (but certainly not the last) and were absolutely thrilled. The ambience is extremely cozy and stylish. We have had an amazing evening with great food and wine! If you're looking for a special, romantic restaurant with authentic Indian food, we can definitely recommend this restaurant. The people working here are very passionate and give their best to make you have a very good experience. We had 3 courses with vegetarian dishes and I had the Punjabi tika masala (chicken) as mean dish. The chicken was super tender with very delicious aromatic rice and fresh vegetables. It is also beautiful to see how great they renovated location. We will definitely come back. (We discovered this restaurant after having takeaway, that we can also recommend).

By chance we came to the Gandhi restaurant. What luck! The ambience is very stylish, noble and very tasteful. The boss and his team welcomed us very warmly, friendly and accommodating. The food was exceptional, delicious, very varied and authentic. It was right that this restaurant received an award for Germany's Gastronomy of the Year 2024 a few days ago. This owner-operated restaurant is more than just a normal restaurant. We were there with several people and enjoyed various starters, main courses and desserts. We swapped and tried many dishes with each other. There is always a variation of dishes with wonderfully balanced spices, unique. The service is awesome, from the courteous greeting, to the small talk and the goodies to the farewell with a rose for the ladies, this restaurant has won us new regular customers. If you want to eat and enjoy a relaxed meal and still feel at home, then you definitely have to go there.

The ambience is wonderful. Our jackets were taken from us at the entrance and we were helped back into them when we left. The service was very friendly and accommodating. The food was super delicious (be sure to try the garlic nan)! The price of around €30-35 per person is absolutely justified. If you want to spend a nice and cozy evening eating, this is the place for you.

Ghandi is our favorite Indian restaurant in Hamburg. We usually go to because of the distinctive ambience and the extremely good service Loved ones in person. As an exception, we ordered and after a very short time received a mega delicious dinner. Everything became warm And delivered deliciously. We even got two mango lassis as a gift :) This is a great way to end a cozy Sunday. Dietary restrictions and individual sensitivity to spiciness were also taken into account 🙏🏼☺️

please avoid this place,the main dish ( lamb curry) was a total disaster. It was clear that the added lamb meat was precooked and later added to the curry. Beside not having the taste and colour of the curry the meat was dry and not tender at all. After consulting the kitchen the waiter admitted the above!! The waiter offered a free drink as compensation for the spent euro 22 on the terrible curry.

Relaxed atmosphere with very cool but unobtrusive music, very attentive and friendly service and then the food came... The starter platter for two was generous and delicious. The Panjabi Paneer was really delicious and the Palak Paneer Mewa was probably the best of its kind that I have ever tried. It was fruity, the spinach was fresh and the spice was just right. We were recommended a Blanc de Noir which was an excellent match. And the garlic naan! It was crispy on the edge, fluffy in the middle and overall just very flavorful. Absolutely recommended!

Over the last few years we have always liked to order something to pick up and have always been very satisfied with the food - also with the price-performance ratio, especially since a "hip" burger (with ingredients that are actually mediocre in terms of nutrition) is starting to cost 13 everywhere -18 € has to shell out. With the move to the Eppendorfer Marktplatz, the Gandhi has now made a huge leap in terms of ambience and flair, which for me is totally positive. The once somewhat outdated shop has now become a pretty nice, chic (but not too chi-chi) and at the same time very cozy restaurant, through which a new wind is noticeably blowing. And I personally wish many new guests and much success with the new concept/ambience, even for completely selfish reasons ;) because I would be happy if our "favorite Indian" around the corner would be around for a long time. Unfortunately, I suspect that the new store has not yet been received as well as I think it deserves to be. So people, don't eat so many burgers or waste your money on some hipster shops that aren't worth the money, but please eat classic Indian food every now and then, especially since the kitchen also offers many delicious vegan/vegetarian options.

I have been living in Germany for more than 7 years now. This is the worst experience I had ever since in Indian Restaurants in Germany especially in Hamburg. I do not understand how they manage to get these amount of positive reviews in google. Let me explain my experience. We ordered Nawabi Biriyani, Butter chicken and two mango lassies for us (family of 4) All items are super expensive (Biriyani costs around 20 €, Butter chicken with rice - 27€(!!), 300ml Lassi costs 8 € Ambience was nice, food took almost half an hour to get served on our table. (Unpleasant) Surpise # 1 ------------------------ Now comes the worst part - Nawabi biriyani (lets not call it Biriyani !!) is drenched in water mixed with some random vegetables and chicken, no flavours remotely resembling biriyani or Pulao!! Can you imagine frozen Broccoli, Beans and other vegetables in a Chicken Biriyaani? Come on!! Another surprise is they don't serve Raita with the Biriyani!! We had 2 small portions of curd served after we explicitly requested. The butter chicken is worse than the rice dish explained above. (I have never had any bad experience with butter chicken atleast until now and considered to be the safest Indian dish in Germany until now. Thanks Gandhi for crushing my expectations about this dish too 😢 ) Another thing is about the portions they serve are very small for the atrocious price they are charging. Service was also not great - we could feel an inferior service offered to us compared to that offered to the other European/ German customers sitting along with us. The waiter was unfriendly and mean towards us. (But I would have spared this behaviour if the food was atleast "below average" or "average") (Unpleasant) Surpise # 2 ------------------------ We openly shared our feedback and disappointment to the waiter in response to the feedback session. But he immediately switched to Hindi (which he was reluctant before) - "Yehi hai hamara kitchen" (This is what our kitchen is) He didnt even care to ask why we think so or which dish needs improvement so and so !!! (Unpleasant) Surpise # 3 ------------------------ We got the bill on our table which was not very close to the prices of our items ordered. So we tried to double check the individual items. We found out that the (already) expensive mango Lassi was charged 1€ more. Then upon our feedback, the bill was corrected. I wouldn't have even cared to check the bill if the food was atleast average. (Unpleasant) Surpise # 4 ------------------------ We preferred to pay with our card. But to our suprise (unpleasant), the restaurant only takes cash (which is situated in the center of Hambug city) for some unknown and weird reason. I would have given 0 (zero) rating for food and service if google allowed me to. We were really disappointed with overall experience and spoiling a Saturday evening and wasting my 61€ to trash. 😭😭 For the price you are charging, I seriously recommend hiring some chefs who know and respect Indian cuisine and at least have some basic idea of Indian spices and flavours.

There were two of us there and we ordered tandoori dishes. Service was exceptionally good, food was good too. Luckily the food wasn't that spicy. I see this adaptation to European customers as very positive. If you like things a little spicier, you might want to mention that when ordering instead of complaining about the lack of authenticity. In terms of price, typically Eppendorf is in the upper range, but it's worth it.

This is the right place to have a nice evening. I could also imagine it being perfect for having a family celebration or a more celebratory meal here because the size is perfect for that. The restaurant and the “locations” are very well maintained. You will receive all-round care from attentive service. We ate vegetarian and vegan and ordered Indian side dishes in advance. There is a separate wine list, but we didn't drink alcohol, just mango spritzer. I can also particularly recommend the Indian tea, which is served in a pot and with foamed milk. The food had a slight spiciness - so it wasn't generally very spicy. Special requests are taken into account, e.g. the coriander was left out if requested.

We ate at Gandhi's two days in a row because not only did the food taste amazing, but also the service. We had a wonderful time with a very nice and cozy atmosphere👌 What I particularly liked is the consideration of what you can and cannot eat. For example, that I don't like coriander in my food or the consideration of gluten-free food. I recommend anyone who loves Indian food to go there because you can also tell that it is made with love. I haven't eaten food this good in a long time. Many thanks to the owner ☀️

Der Espresso danach rundete unser Geschmackserlebnis ab und dann gab es auch noch für jede von uns eine Rose. Besser kann es gar nicht sein. Wir kommen sehr gerne wieder!

Wir haben im Restaurant Gandhi, das wir auf Empfehlung von Freunden aus Aachen besucht haben, einen wundervollen Abend verbracht. Schon das Ambiente überzeugt. Der Speiseraum war ansprechend renoviert und dekoriert. Das Essen stellte dies jedoch noch einmal in den Schatten. Vorspeisen und Hauptgericht wurden zum einen sehr schön angerichtet präsentiert, zum anderen überzeugten sie hinsichtlich der geschmacklichen Note. Die Gewürze waren sehr fein abgestimmt. So wurden wir als begeisterte Indienreisende in Urlaubsstimmung versetzt. Hierzu trug auch die nette Unterhaltung mit dem Inhaber bei. I was at the Gandhi with friends for the second time and everyone was thrilled. A warm welcome, loving furnishings and all dishes were served in wonderful dishes, some on Indian warmers with tea lights. The owner is the second generation to run the restaurant and is a very charming and attentive host. I can only recommend it!
