A fantastic experience! We felt like we were on vacation, right around the corner from home. We received attentive service and helpful advice throughout the evening. The food was absolutely delicious, and the dessert is especially recommended. The restaurant itself is charming and uniquely decorated. You can tell that a lot of heart and soul went into every detail. It was easy to have a conversation, and it was quiet, even though bands were rehearsing in the cellar. You can even listen to them with a glass of wine after your meal. The whole experience was worth every penny. We'll definitely be back! 😍

At Mahal, candles flicker above plates like little confessions: Hummus – soft as a morning, Eggplant – smoky like a memory, Lamb – tender, as if whispering stories from Antioch. Simply heavenly!! You absolutely must go and sample all the delicacies of Antiochian and Levantine cuisine... my highlight of the evening was the dessert – butternut squash baked in cold water with slightly burnt milk – in Turkish, Kireçte Balkabağı. Incredibly delicious...

We came from Vienna and were in the mood for something Mediterranean. We found this place on Google and thought: why not? The food here is great and the prices are absolutely fair for what's offered.

I would especially like to highlight the excellent service: The waitresses were very friendly, attentive, and explained each dish with great knowledge and enthusiasm. The food and atmosphere were excellent. I have always been fascinated by the cuisine of southeastern Turkey, especially that of Antiochia, so finding a place like this in Germany felt like discovering a treasure. I also learned that they host various events, and I hope to attend one next time. Lastly, seeing the scaled reproductions of ancient Turkish mosaics made the experience feel like dining in an ancient city.

One of the best restaurants I've ever been to. So much of the food was homemade and simply delicious, and highly recommended.

We happened to pass by, reserved a table, and had one of the most wonderful culinary experiences in the Cologne area. The owner is a very attentive hostess; we entered as guests and left the restaurant as friends; she creates such a familiar atmosphere for her guests. She tells a little story about each dish, letting her guests share in the experience. The food is incredibly delicious. Fantastic! And we'll definitely be back! Thank you so much!

A stylishly decorated restaurant with a pleasant atmosphere. It was rather quiet during our visit. The service was friendly, albeit very chatty. A small menu with fresh ingredients, but the dishes seemed a bit plain for my taste. The value for money could be better.

Small restaurant with a terrace in front. The interior is very comfortably furnished. The service was very good, attentive, and provided excellent explanations and tips about the dishes – perhaps because it wasn't quite as busy during the week. First, we had a welcome from the kitchen: a vine leaf soup with a dollop of yogurt. A wonderful combination of sour and mild flavors. The appetizers are divine and should definitely be tried. They're also great for sharing. The main courses were also very tasty. We were already full by then, but we couldn't resist the dessert that was highly recommended – a wise decision. With appetizers, main courses, and desserts, as well as a few drinks, the Mahal isn't exactly a cheap treat, but it was worth every euro. I won't be there for the last time. 😀

The service was disappointing as a place that serves raki. They do not have ice cubes. They do not serve raki with crushed ice. As a couple, we were seriously disappointed on our second visit. The appetizers had no aroma or flavor at all. The service was so poor that the food and appetizers were presented with such a poor quality that we decided not to go to this place again. MAHAL is a wonderful oasis of encounters with very friendly people. Delicious food and wine with traditional flavors are lovingly served, accompanied by Anatolian music. An excellent addition to Cologne culture, I highly recommend it.

Such an amazing experience. Besides having a lovely, warm and welcoming host, the place itself adds up to the cosy oriental atmosphere which takes you somewhere else; the music and the drinks are enough. Then, the food arrives - expressive, tasty, to the point of such supreme delicacy you've never encountered before made up of fresh ingredients one never thinks of putting together. We went there twice while in Köln and both the meat and the fish were outstanding. Ask the host to suggest the right wine to accompany your meal.... You won't be disappointed! Worse, you'll want to eat there again... And again

Great restaurant with lots of vegan options and unusual flavors. After we were there once with the vegan scavenger hunt and tried something, we definitely had to go again. We ate a meze platter for two and village potatoes. We were able to put together the meze platter ourselves from the menu. First of all, a small soup came from the kitchen as a greeting. For dessert we had pumpkin with pistachios and distilled milk. Everything was super tasty, came quickly and the people who work there are super nice. Added to this is the great ambience. We'll definitely be back!

First of all, the restaurant is beautifully decorated, a little gem and totally pleasant. Unfortunately I wouldn't go there again because of the food. We ordered the appetizer platter. If I remember correctly, around €29 3 bowls, spread (unfortunately... not as rich as in some photos here...) with a red cream, a cream that contains aubergine, and humus. There was also brown bread and some kind of typical country chips. It was delicious. Really. Aaaber: Hummus, for example, is made from chickpeas, I think, and is quite inexpensive and rather quick to make. The other dips were very good, but almost €29? The bowl was empty with 4 nice tablespoons. The main courses didn't appeal to me from reading. I thought a starter for €29 would fill you up nicely for two people. Unfortunately no. Nevertheless, I wish the charmingly nice waitress/owner (?) all the luck in the world and success in this beautiful restaurant.

Unfortunately I'm disappointed, after reading a good restaurant review I was expecting aromatic, sophisticated dishes. Instead, the food was rather bland, oily and poorly seasoned. The hummus moussed on the tongue, so that I wondered whether it had already fermented. It was served with brown bread. The green buffers consisted of fried spring onions and parsley. Unfortunately, the chicken breast with green wheat groats at a price of €24 was only natural and the side dish also lacked any kick. The octopus was swimming in oil and unfortunately was no longer bite-proof. However, the dishes were very nicely presented and appetizing.

We're really excited: let's start with the atmosphere, which takes you straight to another country and yet makes us feel at home. We loved the food! I can recommend the Mahal 100%.

A very fine cuisine from the southeastern part of Türkiye on the Syrian border. There in Antakya, a wide variety of influences merge into something special. Even well-known Turkish dishes become something new. It's wonderful that we have something like this in our colorful city of Cologne. Exciting food with very pleasant and attentive service.

The most delicious food you can eat in Cologne, chef Özgür Bey is from Antakya and serves incredibly delicious food. The lamb shoulder was at the right consistency, soft and juicy. I will definitely come again.

As a restaurateur, I have traveled a lot, but have rarely had such courteous service from the owners and employees and at the same time an explosion of taste in all the dishes. Ich schreib sehr ungern negative Reviews, aber hier muss ich es leider machen: Ich habe im Juni für Juli reserviert, eine - persönliche - Bestätigung bekommen und mich sehr gefreut, mit Freunden hier zu Essen. Als wir dann Samstags um 20 Uhr da waren, stellten wir zu unser Überraschung aber fest, dass das Restaurant seit über einer Woche in Sommerurlaub war und wir darüber nicht informiert wurden Sorry, das geht gar nicht. Und vom „schlechten Service“ und der Enttäuschung mal abgesehen, versucht mal an einem lauen Sommerabend Samstags um 20 Uhr einen freien Tisch in der Südstadt zu bekommen .

Das Essen war zwar lecker, aber eben auch nichts besonderes, auch ist der Ort gemütlich, aber eben auch relativ laut. Alles ist sehr überteuert. Jede Kleinigkeit wird extra abgerechnet, so servierte man fälschlicherweise ein Gericht, das so nicht bestellt war. Den Fehler muss dann der Kunde bezahlen, ohne Kompromiss. Das Geld ist besser in einem einfacheren türkischen Restaurant an der Ecke angelegt, auch wenn es dort wahrscheinlich nicht so schick serviert wird!

We would like to thank chef Özgür Altunkaya and Mr. Erhan for their delicious appetizers and meals, beautiful presentations and hospitality. It was a pleasant and delicious evening. Çökelek cheese salad, pumpkin dessert and all the appetizers were incredibly delicious.

It was very expensive compared to the taste and quality of the products. Two small dishes were very tasty, but you can also get the rest in an inexpensive Turkish restaurant on the corner. We were served a dish that we did not order, although it was not clear that it was not what we ordered. It was added to our bill without any discussion. Overall totally overpriced!

A nice restaurant in a quiet corner. The service, ambience and food were really great 😁 We only ordered a main course, but we also got a few other smaller starters that were really tasty. I can recommend it. The prices are a little higher but I think they're OK. I enjoyed the food and everything else was fine too 😁

Waited forever until we were allowed to order the drinks. The waitress didn't come by for ages so we spent the long time until the food came without drinking. When the time finally came, I was told that what I had ordered wasn't there. So my companion had her food and I still had to wait. When we left, the guy himself made us pay for the 2 schnapps. A nice gesture would have been appropriate. Speaking of which... very expensive... in my opinion.

We discovered this fabulous little place by accident and can only recommend it heartily to everybody. The food puts a modern and flavourful spin on the traditional cuisine - be aware that the food is very spicy (in the herbal sense). The personnel is very warm and welcoming, giving the place immediately a family atmosphere. The mezze dishes are small as they should be, allowing you to savour a wide variety of food. They are a bit on the pricey side, but the price is justified in our opinion. They have a wide variety of vegetarian dishes, and the wine we tried was excellent, too. Kids are welcome.

We went to the Mahal restaurant for dinner on a Tuesday evening. That evening there was also an event with oriental music, which made the evening particularly successful. The decor was nice and cozy. The service was very friendly and attentive. We ordered three starters that tasted good. My main course, the Brine chicken, was unfortunately disappointing. The chicken was seasoned okay, but the root vegetable salad was bland. And for €24, which I found too expensive. In my opinion the price-performance ratio doesn't match.

Very cozy Levantine restaurant with friendly staff and delicious, authentic food

Unfortunately very disappointing. The starter was somewhat convincing, but the main course was almost tasteless. All 3 courses were small portions, so I left the restaurant hungry. The waitress, however, was simply a disgrace. None of the guest's wishes were met and were met with rude answers. The wine came after the starter. The table was cleared even though one person in our group hadn't finished eating yet. And the price performance ratio was outrageous. Never again!

I am turkish and I was missing real turkish food before visiting this restaurant. If you want to eat delicious traditional turkish food that is prepared by an experienced chef and have raki this place is perfect for you. It is also perfect for crowded group meals with its open stage on thursdays. The people are so kind and the atmosphere is so warm that you really feel like home. You should definitely visit and have the experience.

Zugegebenermaßen ist es eine Weile her, seit ich so gut außer Haus gegessen habe. Die Präsentation der Speisen war ein Augenschmaus, und der Geschmack? Absolut erstklassig. Hier vorbeizuschauen ist definitiv nicht nur ein kulinarisches Highlight, sondern ein Gesamterlebnis, das man nicht verpassen sollte! Danke für den tollen Abend!

Die Hauptgerichte stellten uns nicht zufrieden, also bestellten wir mehrere Meze-Teller auf den Tisch, Dessert und eine Flasche Rot Wein. Aber die Crew war nicht zufrieden mit dem, was wir bestellt hatten. Sie haben uns mindestens 10 Mal gefragt, ob wir mehr bestellen wollen. Sie gaben uns das Gefühl, wir müssten immer mehr Gerichte bestellen, was uns den ganzen Abend nervös machte. Hatten wir das Gefühl, nicht an diesen Ort zu gehören. Wir als Türken wollten nur die Atmosphäre der Antakya-Restaurants in der Türkei haben, aber das war leider überhaupt nicht der Fall. Man kann noch so schön dekoriert sein, aber wenn man kein freundliches Personal hat, dann ist das Essen nichts wert. Ich gebe einen Stern für das Innere, einen Stern für die Meze-Teller.
