Horrible apflelstrudel and waffle. To avoid! Such a pity the view on top of the water.

Came for coffee and an apple strudel. Disappointed with the coffee which was bland. The strudel was ok but no more. The staff seemed a bit uninterested in the guests. Sat on the veranda but it wasn't particularly cozy with plastic glass facing the river. The toilet was charged for.. don't know if it was just those who weren't guests but I didn't pay then and again no one else either..€ 0.5 Inside the restaurant it felt more genuine than on the balcony. They didn't have the infrared heaters on despite the rain and about 12 C.

We stumbled upon this place by chance last weekend; there was a live music evening with a great rock band on the heated terrace overlooking the Rur River. We also had dinner in the restaurant, where we ordered steak with fries and vegetable fritters for me. The food was delicious, the service friendly, the atmosphere a bit crazy, and the prices reasonable. We ended up staying the whole evening! The concert was free and the drink prices were normal. It was a completely unexpected and wonderful evening, and we'll definitely be back next time we're in Monschau!

A Kölsch costs €3.80 when there's live music... Heavy drinkers are at a disadvantage... They should just charge an entrance fee.

Delicious, home-style food, perfectly reasonable prices. Friendly service, not too stiff. Very personable. Super cozy atmosphere. There's something to look at everywhere. The apple strudel with ice cream today was incredibly delicious! Whenever we're in Monschau, we go to the Lütticher Hof.

The food was ok — decent portions and well presented, but nothing particularly special. The service was also just ok, friendly enough but not very attentive. However, the place itself is really charming, especially with the terrace right along the river — a lovely spot to sit and enjoy the view. Overall, nice atmosphere, average food.

Luckily, the apple pie wasn't bad! There's no friendliness in this establishment. When someone greets you in German, you wonder what you did wrong 😅 The coffee was meh, a bit like the coffee my grandmother used to serve me... so 1 coffee + 1 piece of pie + 1 tea for €16.90! Okay, if it was good, we're still in a tourist spot, but a Lipton-style tea and ground coffee for €8 isn't great! Especially at the exit, when we wanted to pay by card because we didn't have cash and hadn't seen a handwritten note explaining that we couldn't pay by card for amounts under €20.00, I thought the waiter was going to sequester us before he sighed, mumbled a few incomprehensible words... in short, we won't be back!

Hello to everyone reading this. I'm a trained chef, and I know what I'm talking about. All I can say is that it's outrageous to offer schnitzels like these that are only made in a vacuum oven and not fried in clarified butter or fat. What's more, they're not freshly breaded. The peppercorn sauce was okay, but the mushroom cream sauce was simply embarrassing. I was about to go into the kitchen and ask if they were serious. When I asked if the schnitzel was fresh, they said yes. The salad was a joke: a slice of cucumber, a piece of tomato, and two lettuce leaves, but the hottest part was the dressing: sugar water with a Knorr-ready herb mix. I can only recommend to anyone who loves schnitzel not to eat there.

I've never written a bad review before, but the food is truly outrageous for this price. The schnitzel came from the freezer, drenched in ready-made sauce. Overall, it tasted very artificial and of flavor enhancers. Unfortunately, due to the high turnover of guests due to tourism, the restaurant here seems to be making no effort at all...not recommended.

We ate here with two adults and two children and were unfortunately very disappointed. The food was far too small overall, and the portions didn't match the price at all. A children's plate for €12.50, and the kids were still hungry afterward – that simply shouldn't be allowed. The drinks also tasted as if they'd been sitting open behind the counter the day before. When we wanted to speak to the manager, we were simply told to write a review. He also added, "We're a tourist restaurant; guests only come once anyway." – a truly unprofessional and disrespectful attitude. For us, this was definitely our first and last time here. The value for money is completely out of proportion. Not recommended!

The website menu is outdated (from 2020) and prices are higher now — 8 € for one coffee and a sparkling water. In 2025 I’d expect transparent, up-to-date prices and hassle-free card payment.

Magnificent restaurant. The location is very nice, but if you can, go out to the terrace; it's a sight to behold. The food is good, the service is friendly, and the price is right. I recommend it.

The two of us ordered schnitzel here, one Viennese and one with Monschau mustard sauce. The sauce was delicious, but the schnitzel was the worst we've ever had. The breading is coming off, tastes like flour. And it's definitely not crispy like it should be. It's also quite expensive. 20 euros for a piece of flattened meat. It came with a small bowl of fries and a salad with what looked like sweetener and oil as a dressing. The waitress was very friendly, running around like a madwoman while the gentleman working the bar chatted with someone he apparently knew. Definitely NOT a place to eat. But not anywhere else in Monschau, really. Due to all the tourism and crowds, the quality of the food is declining and the prices are ridiculously high. Enjoy this beautiful town and have a nice meal outside the city.

Really bad. I don't even know where to start. A 7.90 surcharge if you want a baked potato with your pork schnitzel with ready-made sauce? Or, as a side dish, "potatoes" means: half a sliced ​​potato with dried herbs. You sit on the terrace, a fan heater roars and dries out the air. The plates with the food aren't preheated, and the food is cold within minutes. Absolutely terrible. The portions are very small, and despite paying €20.50 for a schnitzel with sauce, you won't feel full. There's a micro salad as a side dish. It was gritty. My partner had fries as a side dish, maybe 12 in total. Sauces all cost extra and are charged extra. Don't go here! Of all the tourist traps in Monschau, this is one of the worst. The only thing is that you sit by the river, which is quite nice.

Unfortunately, I hadn't read the reviews beforehand. It seemed like a nice place, with a terrace overlooking the stream and trees. It said "heated terrace," but I sat with my coat on because it was cold and unheated. The tables were dirty, swarming with flies, and plants full of dead, unkempt flowers hung from the balcony. The service was downright unfriendly. The schnitzel was okay, but for €20.00... with a sauce from a can. For a small container of mayonnaise (fries sauce), which finally arrived after I'd already eaten half, I was charged €1.00. The fries were in a kind of hospital-sized container (see photo). After I finished, I wasn't asked if I wanted dessert or coffee. Paying the bill wasn't an option either, so I walked to the bar. The staff kept chatting among themselves without looking at me when the man with me was paying, and there was no hello or thank you. Go somewhere else for your money and more friendliness!!

Today, the two of us found a seat on the lovely terrace. So much for the positives. A homeopathic dose of ready-made dressing on a mini salad, a ready-made schnitzel with a cheap pre-made peppercorn sauce, and a mini portion of French fries. The rump steak was okay. The waiter was either shy or listless, and certainly not friendly. You won't need to return here again.

A group of 16 people wanted to eat there. Soup isn't allowed without a main course; they're not very flexible. The staff is incredibly rude and completely unhelpful. Tip: avoid this place.

It was a lovely spot on the balcony right by the river. The food was okay. The waitress was absolutely unfriendly; he was so rude he went to the basement to laugh. He never looked up, only responded to direct conversation, and even then, he was very taciturn. You got the impression that he didn't enjoy his job and that guests were a nuisance! 🥴

The review simply refers to the fact that the restaurant is primarily concerned with making money. The steaks are served with fries and salad. If you choose fried potatoes instead of fries, you have to pay €7.90 extra. If you choose regular potatoes instead of fries, it's €5.90. Ketchup and mayonnaise each cost €1 and, of course, aren't included with the fries. I wanted to order a bottle of water. Negative! Only glasses! By the way, the toilet also costs 50 cents. 👍🏽

Good food and a wonderful atmosphere, especially on the beautiful terrace with a view of the Ruhr, also vegetarian/vegan food.

Schnitzels are ok. But the waffle was quite good. If you have baby with a stroller, keep in mind reservation. Inside is a bit narrow, might be difficult to find place.

I've never experienced such arrogant and condescending service. "No, you can't go out to the terrace, it's only for dinner." Such a demotivated waitress doesn't belong in a restaurant, but rather on an assembly line somewhere. He was just complaining that there were guests there all afternoon wanting to eat. Such a waitress simply needs to go.

You can sit outside on a lovely, quiet terrace. The schnitzel with mustard sauce was good, the other dishes mediocre. Service was great: fast, attentive, and friendly! The prices are, as is the case throughout the town, very high due to tourism.

Well... I'd like to echo many of the previous reviews. The outdoor terrace is a very pleasant place to sit. The prices for the mediocre-at-best meal (broccoli wedges/fried Camembert €16.90/€15.90) were too high; without the two large portions of fries (€5.20 per person), we wouldn't have been full. The sauce for the broccoli wedges tasted very much like a packet of sauce, and the few mushrooms (probably from a can/jar) were certainly not fresh. The side salad was fresh, but the salad dressing was watery with a slight vinegar flavor. The two small Camemberts had a very thick coating; there were also two half slices of toast and a small side salad. To be honest, we felt really sick after eating, and we're really NOT picky when it comes to food. Unfortunately, they're really geared towards mass tourism and not satisfied customers who will return. The only thing that was good was the service, which was very friendly, courteous, and prompt. We certainly won't eat there again if we're ever in Monschau again.

The Monschau schnitzel with mustard sauce was delicious. The schnitzel was tender, and the mustard sauce was heavenly! The fries were beautifully crispy. The hosts were very friendly and welcoming. The service was excellent! The Rur terrace offered a beautiful view! Great restaurant!

The mustard and Bernaise schnitzel were quite okay. Unfortunately, the creamed mushroom schnitzel was not tasty at all. There weren't even any fresh mushrooms. The salad dressing was also completely watery, making it inedible overall. We wouldn't eat there again.

Absolutely not recommended. Three pork steaks were extremely dry, obviously pre-cooked, and the two sad lettuce leaves didn't help matters. The chicken breast was completely microwaved. It had never been in a pan and had the consistency of a thawed fish stick. The salad had no dressing at all and was tasteless. It's fitting that we ordered two mayo portions (€1 extra per portion!), but were charged for three portions.

The previous evening, we had a very pleasant waiter at the Lütticher Hof. When we arrived the following day, we hoped for the same level of service. We were greeted by an incredibly unfriendly waiter who seemed to have no interest in serving customers. After we tried to stop in for dessert and drinks around 7 p.m., as we had been able to the previous evening, the menu was snatched from us with the remark, "Not here, my friend," and we were told to leave immediately. We have never had a comparable experience. Unfriendliness coupled with disrespect in a restaurant. I cannot recommend this place, and we will not be seeing them again.

It seems like there's a lot to choose from, but only the sauces differ. The meat isn't bad, but the number of flies that harass you is. They suggest the kitchen isn't exactly spotless. The service is indifferent, and it's not exactly welcoming. I'd say: Move on, find something you'll enjoy.

Unfortunately, no recommendation We were there as tourists and were sadly disappointed. The food didn't impress us at all. The salad had a dressing that tasted more like water with a few drops of vinegar – overall, very unloving. The schnitzel was also mediocre at best, more like "off the shelf" and lacking in particular flavor. Overall, everything seemed a bit like it was done on an assembly line, lacking any heart or culinary ambition. It's a shame – we definitely wouldn't recommend this restaurant.

The food is pretty good, certainly fresh and reasonably well-prepared. The fries are nice and hot and crispy. But otherwise, this is a real tourist trap, including the nonsense about not accepting card payments (which is actually possible, but they want cash... black). If you don't expect too much and are in a hurry, this is a great place.

It was busy; when we tried to order, we were suddenly told we couldn't order half of it because it was sold out. We could have ordered sooner. After the food was delivered, we weren't asked if we wanted to order anything, and after our plates were cleared, we weren't asked if we wanted dessert. The food was delivered quickly, though.

My phone died and i had to charge it and even when there was a minimum of €20 i could charge it for free

Schnitzel in Monschau mustard sauce with French fries and salad (€19.50). The food was hot, the fries crispy, the schnitzel ordinary, but the sauce didn't taste enough like mustard for us. Plus Leffe beer on tap (delicious!). A 0.3l glass of tap water (not cool or cold) for €3.80. A younger waiter was friendly. Yes, it was busy, the restaurant was busy, and the older waiter was clearly stressed. The restrooms for girls were uninviting; the toilet seat was broken; everything was old and worn by the ravages of time.

We arrived around 12:00 PM and just wanted to sit comfortably on the terrace, drink coffee, and eat dessert – the three of us. But the waitress was extremely rude and annoyed. We were immediately told that you're only allowed to sit outside if you order a lunch dish. A dessert with a coffee isn't enough – and that's in a café! To be honest: The three of us would have ordered at least three desserts and three coffees – easily a total of €40. Apparently, they don't want to make money there, or only under their own very rigid conditions. Friendliness or flexibility? None at all. This kind of behavior is simply disappointing and unprofessional – especially in a place that relies heavily on tourism. We felt completely unwelcome and moved on. Not recommended.

We were quickly operated and our waffles and apfelstrudel were served very quickly. At the entrance there is a sign with "Frische Waffeln" where, in our opinion, is certainly not fresh. They were heavy and had little taste. Certainly not comparable with Brussels waffles. The Apfelstrudel was also not the best I've already eaten.

The food tasted okay, and I didn't have to wait long. The salad with the schnitzel was a joke: a few lettuce leaves, a piece of tomato, and a slice of cucumber. I found the dirty menu terrible, and the note with the instruction to pay by card for €20 or more was even dirtier. Overall, the restaurant seemed unclean. There was a French fry lying on the floor; the staff walked past it several times. Later, a small dog snatched it and ran around the restaurant the whole time. When we left, the French fry was lying in the entrance area. The dirty tablecloths weren't changed either.

The terrace is a lovely place to sit! The food is delicious; the pork steak was a bit tough, but still edible. There weren't enough fries for two people. The service was excellent! A highchair is available. It's best to make a reservation in advance if you want to sit on the terrace.

A very nice and cozy restaurant. The weather was great, so we sat on the terrace above the river. Although the restaurant itself is also very cozy. The stuffed trout was very tasty. Beautiful presentation. The staff is very friendly. The food was brought quite quickly. It's very good that we didn't read the reviews before visiting. We plan to bring our friends to this cozy atmospheric city and will definitely eat here.

I ate a steak here – unfortunately, it was rather disappointing overall. The taste was okay, but by no means outstanding. The presentation of the dish also left a lot to be desired – carelessly prepared and lacking in refinement. I had hoped for much more. For the price and what was offered, the overall package wasn't right for me.

Rip-off. The "fresh waffle" was fresh from the morning and had only been heated briefly (in the microwave?). Charging 8.20 for it is a scam. I sent it back, and they said the waffle was fresh from the morning, and bread is also from the morning if you buy it in the afternoon. Such a cheeky and stupid explanation, too. And the insinuation that the waffle was half-eaten. I ate exactly two forkfuls because I couldn't believe the first bite. My husband tried another small piece and confirmed that the waffle was like rubber. Totally unprofessional.

The conservatory above the Roer offers a beautiful view but is a bit cold. Unfortunately there was no sunfish, but the salmon fillet with mustard sauce tasted excellent. Very good service.

Yes, you can eat here to survive—but if you’re looking to truly enjoy your meal and walk away thinking “Yes, that was a great dinner,” this isn’t the place. It’s also quite pricey for what it is. A glass of tap water for €3.20 felt over the top. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend it.

Unfortunately, the menu hardly contained any vegetarian dishes. - The food was okay, but very carelessly prepared. In addition, the permitted payment conditions between cash and card payments changed. It's been a long time since we've been negatively surprised by a visit to a restaurant. Too bad! Next time I will go to another restaurant.

We read positive reviews so we thought we would eat here. You couldn't make a reservation so we arrived on time. It was coming and going, and little attention was paid to all the tourists. Outside on the terrace they made an effort to heat it, but it was still cold because of the cold that came through everywhere. The toilets were anything but clean. All the other restaurants didn't seem any better. So I recommend finding somewhere to eat outside Monschau.

I have come here for years because of its great location in the old town by the river and because of its warm cosy atmosphere, almost like a mountain hut. After my last disastrous visit though, I have decided not to come back. I had forgotten that this place accepts cash only, and knew that the owner had a bit of a rough character so I started to get nervous when I got up to pay. And sure enough, the owner asked me to either leave a passport or a family member while I was running to the nearest ATM, which I felt was unacceptable. He thus wanted to call the police and even grabbed me when I was attempting to go out to withdraw money without leaving a piece of identity. My wife and daughter were a bit in panic so I decided to cut short this conflict by letting my wife withdraw money and pay the guy while I waited as his prisoner. It is a shame that intensive tourism turn some local business owners into such unpleasant people. Still, Monshau stays one of my favorite destination and I find most people really friendly.
