Great location, great ambience. 4 stars for that. Unfortunately, neither the service nor the food preparation can keep up with the exclusive location. The (weak) price-performance ratio is mainly due to the location (2 stars) The snooty nature of the service is only matched by the slowness. Sorry: 1 star for this. The salad was ok, but absolutely nothing special. What shocked me, however, was the veal ragout: it tasted good, it was also heavily tomatoized and caraway. But the meat quality... Some pieces were nicely braised, but half of the meat pieces were hard and chewy. So you really have to work on purchasing or preparing it, it doesn't work that way. Desert delicious. Overall 2-3 points in the food category. Conclusion: just an overpriced tourist restaurant in a prime location.

Even late in the evening you can get a good cheese platter and great wine here. Sometimes a traveling bookseller even comes by the restaurant who has interesting literature to offer and wants to bring to the people. She had good customers in us.

Very nice German restaurant with classic German dishes but with a slightly more exclusive setting.

Were here for the New Year's Eve menu. For the starter and main course you could choose between a fish or a meat dish, and there were also purely vegetarian dishes. Otherwise the menu was set. All courses except dessert were delicious, some with unusual spices. Unfortunately, the dessert was very sweet and you couldn't taste the individual components. The wine we chose was wonderfully chilled. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Since the New Year's Eve menu didn't start until 9 p.m., it fit in very well with our visit to the Berlin Philharmonic's New Year's Eve concert. The room was very nicely decorated and decorated. Unfortunately there were no fireworks displays at Gendarmenmarkt this year due to construction work.

It is a restaurant that is mainly visited by tourists due to its location and is known for its sauerbraten and schnitzel. However, there are many other national dishes. We chose salad as a starter, Berlin-style potato soup and baked black pudding. The prices are high, which is of course to be expected given the location, directly on the Gendarmenmarkt, but also creates a certain expectation of the quality of service and cuisine. On the whole it fits. In order to receive 5 stars, all service staff would have to be trained and always friendly. However, if drinks are brought in hand, glasses are handled incorrectly, and follow-up service for water is not made, then there is still room for training. There is wine in 0.1 liters. sold, but there are no calibrated glasses for it, only 0.2 liters. The potato soup for over €13.00 is a vegetable broth with potato pieces. Our complaint was processed quickly and easily. Soup was canceled and Maultaschen, which were very good, were served instead. It is not obvious to the guests that if you have made a reservation in the Weinhanlung, you still have to register in the main restaurant because the placement takes place from here. Even if it was the holidays, that is no excuse for the service staff to be stretched to their limits and therefore make mistakes. In the 2 hours of our visit, 3 tables complained. The food was otherwise excellent and the portions were mostly reasonable. We enjoyed the evening.

Très bon restaurant dans un esprit brasserie chic. Déco traditionnelle allemande mais plutôt raffinée. Accueil et service attentionné. Nourriture faisant la part belle aux grands classiques de la cuisine allemande et Berlinoise. Et une très belle cave à vin qui jouxte le restaurant. Une belle découverte.

Anyone who values ​​themselves should go and eat at this restaurant before they die. It's a place where everyone praises the schnitzel, but I ordered Gulasch. It was served with a unique meat and sauce. It could truly be on the list of the most incredibly amazing food I've ever eaten. Some feelings cannot be explained, this is a place of that quality. The wine menu is very extensive. If you go to Berlin, do not return without experiencing this place. I recommend making a reservation.

A lovely restaurant for any occasion. We very much enjoyed our pre-concert dinner recently. Our concierge was able to secure a table within an hour as we’d quite forgotten to make reservations. A quick jaunt around the corner and walla … our table was ready waiting for us. It was a fantastic friendly service, wonderful food… all in time for our fabulous Christmas concert.

Onze eerste avond in Berlijn , dit restaurant uitgekozen. Mede vanwege het principe ‘stemmen met de voeten’. De redelijke drukte die we zagen doet vermoeden dat het een goed restaurant is. Beperkte kaart met prima gerechten. We kozen voor sauerbraten en een kalfslevergerecht. Beide smaakten goed, even als het dessert apfulstrudel met vanillesaus. De prijs was inderdaad aan de enigszins forse kant. Maar de vriendelijke bediening maakte het goed.

We arrived at the restaurant at 18:00 and were told that the table had to be cleared by 20:15 Waited about 45 minutes for the waitress to arrive to take invitation Dishes that the calf would use were huge, thin and crispy excellence A great Caesar salad with large capers. A portion of beef liver with shallot onions in port sauce was reasonable and a little small. Dreadful rude service. We had to wait 20 minutes after being seated to be acknowledged then wait further order drinks and food. It took 30 minutes for starter to arrive main course arrived before starter finished and was left at the table! Had to request main courses were taken back to the kitchen. After finishing starters had to wait a further 30 mins for mains to be returned. Both dushes were incomplete. No apologies no explanation offered. Average food awful service. Do not recommend.

A table for six people was reserved for a nice Christmas dinner with friends and then, despite the reservation, we were placed at a table that could comfortably accommodate a maximum of four people. Service not very warm and not at all appropriate to the standards of the hotel. Duck very good. Cheese plate boring and no discussion whatsoever about what types of cheese were served. Kaiserschmarrn dry. Overall, unfortunately not worth the money

3 stars because of the ambience, otherwise it was nothing! A potato soup that didn't taste like potato soup, the taste only came from the sausage. If you don't want to drink wine, you will be punished with a "large" beer offer from the Radeberger Group, either Radeberger Pilser or Clausthaler, i.e. not good beers.

The food here is very good, but the updated menu is a disgrace and stupid. I want to order a Kaiserschmarren for “one person” and my wife should eat something with me. Then the waiter tells me that is now forbidden. You then have to pay 15 euros twice. LOL then I'll just go somewhere else and I went there with my wife probably once a week. Goodbye

Brilliant place - delicious schnitzel! The only shame is you are not allowed to have tap water. We paid ~10 euros for bottled water from Italy - a massive waste of carbon and not as tasty as Berlin tap water

Delicious food, friendly service

This is a casual but elegant restaurant off Friedrichstrasse. Friendly, helpful staff. The service was a bit slow, but we were not in a hurry. The food was tasty and well-presented. There is a wine tasting and sales section to the restaurant, so they have a very nice array of German and foreign wines.

Has been based on Gendarmenmarkt for a long time. At least the upscale gastronomy on Gendarmenmarkt survived, which makes what has become of the neighborhood all the sadder. Lutter & Wegner is one of the institutions in Berlin.

Nach einem schönen Konzertbesuch wollten meine schwangere Frau und ich noch etwas trinken gehen. Auf der Karte haben wir gesehen, dass es auch Sekt mi 0,0 Alkohol gabt. Ein paar Tisch waren frei, manche reserviert. Wir würden sehr unhöflich for die Tier befördert. Einmal und nie wieder.

Every time we are in Berlin, we definitely visit this venerable, historically and architecturally exceptional restaurant. Here, great value is placed on tradition, a cultivated ambience and excellent, home-style cuisine with seasonal highlights. The wine list is as extensive as it is put together at the highest level; There is something for every palate here. Despite the hustle and bustle of the city, the service team is very friendly and attentive and concerned about the guests' well-being. The ambience and furnishings of the restaurant are of a high standard (there is always a nice setting, even outside, etc.), but it is also quite relaxed and warm-hearted. Definitely highly recommended and a classic for every visit to Berlin.

Wonderful restaurant with a long storied history located right at the back of the former Schauspielhaus by Schinkel (now Konzerthaus Berlin). My Sauerbraten was perfect. The restaurant is airy and nicely decorated with modern artworks. The service is friendly and efficient.

Good food (although expensive) but poor service. This was our second time at this restaurant, this time for a birthday, and both times the food was delivered with unwanted extras (plastic fragments and hair). When we pointed this out to the waiter, a new dish was delivered after repeated requests. The bill was brought along with all the food, and after we asked whether the food with hair could be omitted, we received a callous “sorry” from the head waiter, coupled with a lecture that also included a comparison to buying shoes, and that to us gave the feeling that we should count ourselves lucky that a new dish had been brought. The service is unacceptable for a restaurant of this class, especially when you politely point out the problems to the waiters at the beginning and get nothing in return except a disrespectful lesson.

I had an alright time here. The food is was good but I definitely wouldn't say it is the best snitzel outside of Vienna. I can't say anything particularly stood out with this restaurant, I would just say it's average, especially for the price.

Not sure what went wrong here but several dishes across the menu were poorly prepared from the tough slices of beef in the SAUERBRATEN, the dry and overly breaded SCHNITZEL and lastly the salty Risotto, if wine bottles of 11K are on your wine list then you must deliver food quality EVERY time.

The restaurant has a nice atmosphere. The service was courteous and careful. The quality of the food left a lot to be desired. Fried chicken tasted over-seasoned and convenience-heavy. The lukewarm potato and cucumber salad was obviously purchased pre-made. There was a small piece of plastic inside, obviously from the plastic packaging.

Food was very good. The sauerbraten deserves excellent. Ambience and service not to my taste. It's best to see for yourself, enjoy the food and judge for yourself.

We spontaneously went there for dinner in the early evening. Luckily, we got a nice little table. Everything was perfect, the food and wine were great. The waitress was very nice and even though she was really busy, she always kept an eye on us.

Después de que pedimos nuestra comida llegó sospechosamente rápido (en 2 minutos) y el pedido estaba mal. Fue reemplazado igualmente rápido. El schnitzel estaba seco y no estaba muy caliente, mi carne también estaba tibia aunque sabía bien. El precio era demasiado alto para la calidad de la comida.

I ate at this restaurant in February of 2020, just before the pandemic hit. At the recommendation of the person at the next table, I tried the schnitzel and it was very good. The wine selection was excellent and my waitress made very good recommendations for what wines to have with my main course as well as the dessert course. For dessert, I had a cheese plate. Service was prompt and unobtrusive, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was relaxing and comfortable. I look forward to trying the restaurant again on a return trip.

Upscale traditional German restaurant with renowned schnitzel that had a amazing crust and was not greasy. Service was attentive but not intrusive. It's a little pricey but the quality justifies it.

I have never experienced such unfriendly and impolite service. We waited a good hour for the drinks, around 1.5 hours for the starter and over 2 hours for the main course. When we arrived at 7pm it was pretty empty, then it filled up and all the other tables were served before us, that's just cheeky. Of course there were hardly any tips anymore and the waitress was “irritated”.

Der Brotkorb für 2,50 Euro war eine Zumutung: fünf dünne, trockene Scheiben Baguette vom Vortag, die keine Ente anlocken würden, begleitet von einem unscheinbaren Stück Butter. Besonders ärgerlich war die lange Wartezeit von über einer Stunde zwischen Vorspeise und Hauptgang, während später eingetroffene Gäste bereits bedient wurden. Zwar entsprach das Wiener Schnitzel den Erwartungen und der Kartoffel-Gurkensalat ist erwähnenswert, doch das nützt wenig angesichts der übermäßigen Enge der Bestuhlung und des nassforsch-arroganten Personals. Ein Besuch, der weder zum Wiederkommen noch zur Weiterempfehlung einlädt.

The visit to the restaurant left a lasting negative impression. As soon as we took our seats, we were literally harassed with requests for drinks - a start that was more reminiscent of a fast food restaurant than of a relaxed evening in a restaurant. The bread basket for 2.50 euros was an imposition: five thin, dry slices of baguette from the day before, which wouldn't attract a duck, accompanied by an inconspicuous piece of butter. What was particularly annoying was the long waiting time of over an hour between the starter and the main course, while guests who arrived later were already being served. Although the Wiener Schnitzel lived up to expectations and the potato and cucumber salad is worth mentioning, that's of little use given the excessively narrow seating and the wet, arrogant staff. A visit that neither invites you to come back nor to recommend it to others.

Die Ambiente ist nett und die Bedienung relativ aufmerksam. Jedoch haben wir den berühmten Sauerrahmbraten bestellt, welches wir leider aufgrund des zähen und durchgekochten Fleisches zurück gehen lassen mussten. Das Schnitzel, 27 Euro, kam fast kalt und auch etwas zäh auf den Tisch und für Preisselbeeren und Kartoffel-/ Gurkensalat kamen 2 und 4,50 Euro dazu. Auch das einfache Brot wird zusätzlich berechnet.

The Christmas hut is a complete disgrace. We had our Christmas party there last year and it was a disaster despite reservations. We were relegated to 2 beer tables, crowded together. We didn't have any space and couldn't have a conversation because of the volume. Staff arrogantly unfriendly and the food below average. Everything was slapped down carelessly. NEVER AGAIN

I don't go to restaurants or wine bars often. But if I have to, I want it to be really nice. That's what drives me to L&W on Gendarmenmarkt. The food is extremely good and depends on the seasons. The selection of beers is manageable. But the wine list is awesome. You can also sit inside or outside in a great atmosphere and enjoy the audience worthy of a capital city. I love going here with good friends and enjoy the good local transport connections.

Also highly recommended for those with a small appetite. Excellent wine - you shouldn't bet on BVB with just the waiter - Toni Schumacher actually played 30 minutes for BVB

Best Schnitzel outside Vienna. But don't skip the other parts of the mehr which are great as well. If you can sit inside, perfect. Outside a little bit crowded and the service takes sometimes long. Overall, a place you can definitely go to. The price is ok for the food, but not cheep.

The staff was very rude and acted like they did not want to serve us. We only experienced such rudeness in the two East Berlin restaurants we ate at during our stay. Yes, more than one, and will review the other one on here as well. I cannot tell you exactly why we were treated with such disdain other than I could not speak German and I'm an American or that my wife is Filipina. Regardless, we always treat everyone with respect and we're in complete shock at how we were treated. We were in Berlin for the first time celebrating 41 years of marriage but we will never stay or eat in East Berlin ever again. We did not experience this type of rude behavior in West Berlin nor in Nuremberg or Munich. Beware, as this business appears to be racist towards foreigners who visit their establishment or are just very unprofessional.

I don't think the prices are justified. A Wiener Schnitzel for €27.50 without any side dishes, which cost between €2.50 and €3.50 extra. In every village inn in Austria there is at least one equivalent Viennese schnitzel at a moderate price. And the supplements are already there. Yes, the rental prices at Gendamenmarkt are higher than in a country inn, but everything still has to be reasonable. The chairs outside are very uncomfortable. The waiters are friendly but very stiff. I was totally disappointed with the toilet. Something was chipped off on a toilet lid. The taps are totally calcified. In such an expensive restaurant, I expect a nice toilet.

I particularly rate the 'branch' that is set up in a marquee at the Christmas market at Christmas time. Although somehow cozy, the tent was so packed that you had to ask every row of seats to get up to get up. From then on, the food is good, home-style and not particularly unusual. In my opinion the prices are simply too high. At the same time, the place and the staff are very reminiscent of a somewhat aloof Berlin bar that thinks a little too much of itself.

Always nice at Lutter & Wegner when you fancy a brilliant Wiener Schnitzel with potato salad. They're great at it and deliver consistently good quality! The dessert also shows that you can experience top gourmet cuisine here.

This is the restaurant if your after classic German dishes. From the award winning sauerbraten, to the variety of sausages and the veal liver, paper thin as tender & moist as you'd wish. The mushroom risotto with prawns was a standout. Needless to say the service complemented food. The place to eat if its classic German you're after.

Absolutely awful experience: my husband and I visited for dinner, sat outside and were caught in an unexpected thunderstorm and torrential rain as soon as our food arrived. Nobody came out from the restaurant to help us move insight as we and the food became more and more drenched; finally a waitress appeared and helped us into the restaurant- where we were greeted by 4 male staff including the manager hiding in the back and laughing. The waitress finally managed to bring in our food and rest of the wine too although our Schnitzel were cold and soggy by now. Neither our main male waiter nor the male manager could be bothered to check in on us or indeed help in what was clearly a wrecked dinner by now. Fed up we asked for the bill and complained to this waiter about the lack of service we experienced when help was needed, which he just shrugged off. Even more annoyed we asked for the manager by this point who openly said that guests are just stupid to sit outside and that he did not come to help us as he did not want to get wet and wouldn’t asked his staff to do so either and that the weather was our problem for sitting outside in the first place!!! Whilst we understood that he can’t change the weather it is simply arrogant and completely unprofessional for him and his male chauvinistic staff to act like this! We are not even able to rate the food as it was inedible in the end and paid our bill of €136.00 as it was clear that there was no good-will or indeed any acknowledgment of the terrible experience we had in the end- with us being made to feel stupid for even just sitting outside during a warm summer evening. Never in our lives have my husband or I experienced such rude and chauvinistic behaviour in a supposedly upmarket restaurant across Europe! We will never return and felt sad for the poor waitress who helped us as we witnessed from our taxi how she was made to hand over a generous tip we gave her to that awful manager. We hope she finds another job asap!

Terrible, arrogant and chauvinistic behaviour by the male waiters and the manager. My husband and I sat outside the restaurant as it was a warm, summer evening. Our main meals arrived within 10 minutes of ordering- before we even had our starter, to which the waiter admitted to have forgotten about it. We overlooked this with no idea what was about to unfold: 5 minutes into our meal we had torrential rain coming from all sights like a monsoon- not very typical for an evening in Berlin! Looking for help, we finally spotted a waitress after another 5 minutes, helping us to bring our plates and wine into the restaurant- there was literally NO OTHER WAITER OF THE RESTAURANT IN SIGHT, as it turned out they were all standing insight, HIDING AND LAUGHING AS WE CAME IN DRENCHED!!! We were shown to a table and my husband and I looked at our plates in dismay; the Schnitzel was soggy and the warm potato salad was cold by now- nobody came to check on us if we or the food indeed was ok to eat at all. The meal was clearly ruined and our mood did not improve when we mentioned to our waiter that we didn’t understand why there was only one waitress helping us and nobody seemed to care that our food was ruined. We fully understand that they are not able to change the weather but certainly their attitude! He just shrugged things off with no apology about the situation we found ourselves in, even finding it funny in some way! I then asked for the manager who unbelievably told me that he thought that guest are just stupid sitting outside and that the reason he was not coming outside to help, or his staff indeed, was that he didn’t see why he should get wet?!?! This manager or his male staff clearly don’t care about their guests at all and he even told me he couldn’t send his female staff out as they would get their little ‘locks of hair and lovely eyelashes’ wet and would protest at that… WHAT? So the helpful waitress seemed to act at least on her own will. We paid our bill of £136.00, there was no point continuing this ‘conversation’ with this ‘manager’ any further. We hope the kind waitress who helped us will be ok; we gave her a generous tip but saw her ‘summoned’ to that terrible manager once we had left. WE HOPE SHE IS OK BUT WE WILL NEVER RETURN AND WILL DISCOURAGE ANYONE ELSE TO DO SO! Shame on them.

The service at Lutter & Wegner is catastrophic. After 25 minutes of waiting without food we asked. The manager yelled at us. When the food came, he threw the plates on the table and called out “28 minutes.” The pork fillet was dry and inedible. I used to be a loyal customer but after this experience I won't be coming back.

Portion - price - taste ist not sufficient.. Its like robbery. Food came late We ordered desert as well, apfel strudel should come with icecream, instead of that it came with some icecream liquid… I ordered risottw with shrimps. Shrimps are been forgetten and came after 3 min. And just 3 mini pieces. You dont feel full as stomach with an empty wallet. For the risotto: 32,5€ Unbelievable Dont you dare to try the schnitzel which was thin and oily Tiramisu was okey inside all these things

So far, Lutter and Wegner has been one of our regular restaurants, over the last few years we have eaten several thousand euros here, celebrated wedding anniversaries, birthdays, etc. Until today, because today we were shouted at so badly by a waiter and had to change the side of the restaurant on the other hand, there would be more waitresses and some stress could be used. He didn't say that, but he shouted. We were here with a 1 year old baby and just asked politely if we could order after 10 minutes, because a child like that can get whiny (and it usually happens faster there) - we don't want to bother guests with a screaming child. When I went in to sort it out nicely, even though the behavior alone was all over the place, the gentleman continued to shout, no sign of hospitality. It is unreasonable to be served like this, and after many years it is no longer a regular restaurant for us and the extended family.

I finally went to L@W, which has a few locations. We stayed in the wine room, a little more cozy with an excellent wine list. The Weiner Schnitzel was perfectly suspended in meat, air and breading. The Kaiserschmarrn is unrivaled in the district.

Definitely worth it!! The best schnitzel in Berlin without a doubt!! Fluffy and tasty. It os quite pricey but it was good so no regrets

I always enjoy being at the place where E.T.A. Hoffmann's house stood, which is also honored accordingly. The food is always excellent, as is the wine selection.

We had Limoncello Spritzers at their outside tables one afternoon, when we needed a rest after a long sightseeing walk. Good service and fun people watching .

The service was very good. No long waiting and friendly waiters. The food was rather average. Mostly small portions and not very tasteful. The Schnitzel was huge, but the breading was prepared to hasty.

Good food, we got a Wienersnitzel with side dishes and a nice wine. The schnitzel was large and crispy. The potatoes were good and well cooked. The service was top notch, very professional waiters who lacked absolutely nothing.

! Be careful when paying your bill! I will explain at the end of the comment. Very pleasant welcome and we were able to choose an outdoor table. Restaurant typical of German and Austrian gastronomy. We had 4 different specialties and everything was really good. Excellent time with family until paying the bill which was very stressful!!! We had expected a tip because everything was very good. Our server, speaking very well in French, told us that we had to pay 10% of the bill in a very insistent and oppressive manner to the point that we had to leave a €20 tip! In cash of course! In order to quietly leave this restaurant... and then this same waiter ran behind us in the street because he claimed that our credit card was refused! My husband had to take out the receipt to prove him wrong! We inquired at our hotel and were told that the service is indeed included! A real scam!

Wir haben am 23.4. eine Abendvorstellung in der nahegelegen Staatsoper besucht und dieses Restaurant wegen der durchgehenden warmen Küche gewählt um vor dem Opernbesuch noch eine Kleinigkeit zu Essen. Nach unserem Besuch muss ich feststellen, dass Gäste, die sich nur mit Billigprodukten den Bauch vollschlagen wollen , hier fehl am Platze sind. Lutter & Wegner bietet noch eine wertige traditionelle Gastronomie der leider aussterbenden Art an: gute nicht langweilige Küche aus frischen Produkten, einzigartige Weinauswahl mit Spitzengewächsen für jeden Geldbeutel gepaart mit einem professionellen und motivierten Service Team in einem einzigartigen Ambiente für Gäste die das zu schätzen wissen..

Restaurant recommended in the guides.... I'm wondering... Great frame ok Pretty nice ok On the other hand, 26 euros on average for a dish! It's expensive for 3 small pieces of meat bathed in an overly sweet sauce or a bland breaded escalope with cucumber mashed potatoes. I do not recommend.

The best Keiserschmarrn ever !!!!! (I’ve trying this delicious dessert in many countries and this one is by far THE BEST !! Great service , lovely atmosphere Don’t miss the white asparagus soup!!! Amazing ! The waiters were extremely nice even serving us at 3pm !! I highly recommend this restaurant.

Good authentic place of Austrian gastronomy. Delicious breaded steak, the house classic. I also recommend the gnochies cooked in a different way and delicious. We tried the white asparagus in season, crunchier than in Spain and different to have it with hollandaise sauce.

Ridiculously expensive. Super large schnitzel, more breadcrumbs than meat with a small bowl of potatoes. No vegetables or sauce added. There were reserved signs on all tables, but they always removed them on the spot. Waiter was certainly not friendly either. Barely said anything when we left. DO NOT eat there!

No wonder that the restaurant was the only one that still had free seats on Friday evening.

Wonderful authentic restaurant in Gendarmenmarkt. We had lunch, Spargeln with wienerschnitzel with a wonderful white wine everything was just perfect! Excellent service, nice restaurant, good value for money.
