Amazing Food, fantastic wine list, must visit place, fantastic atmosphere

The ambiance is very good, the service is very friendly and fast, but the food is very bad. The fried chicken was completely bland (cooked chicken breast without any seasoning). The mashed potatoes served with the black pudding were tasteless and too thin (pre-made mix??). The black pudding itself also had hardly any flavor.

Best schnitzel outside of Vienna? Oh dear... dried-out schnitzel, yes; tough, yes. But good? NO! The liver was even drier, and the service in the wine shop (side room) took some getting used to. Schnitzel WITHOUT any sides for 29 euros. If the quality is good, that's okay. But like this? Second disappointment there in two years. What a shame.

The restaurant is fantastic; they deliberately avoid overly elaborate presentations. Okay, they haven't quite managed to avoid a few dabs and splatters, which is where I hesitate to deduct a star – for the desserts. Deducting a star for a vanilla coulis with strawberry mousse is like throwing parsley on the edge of a plate. This is certainly due to the somewhat older chef, but overall the food is really well prepared. The noise level varies, sometimes more, sometimes less, but I also don't expect a carpenter to make me 20 identical chairs. Of course, the staff changes, and in this day and age, I still find the concept behind Lutter & Wegner interesting and good. I hope you can stay in business for another 100 years, respect!

The service was very friendly, but it took a really long time, and every time we wanted to order something, we had to wait forever for a waiter. This put a slight damper on what was supposed to be a very pleasant and delicious evening.

It's absolutely outrageous how much they charge for a pitifully small portion of fried potatoes. The cordon bleu was very dry and absolutely not worth the price.

A must-visit once a month. It has a great vibe, the service is good, and the menu is always seasonally updated. A great wine list.

The restaurant left a rather mixed impression. On the one hand, an interior with slight retro touches, classical music in the background, and truly high-quality food and wine. Especially the Arachon T.FX.T 2019 from Burgenland in eastern Austria: still young, but already interesting – with distinct woody notes and fruity accents. Currently, the wood is more prominent, but will harmonize over time. As with wines from other countries, their full character only unfolds after about ten years of aging – then they become more complex and allow for reflection. But there were also downsides. The service left much to be desired: I had to wait about 15–20 minutes for a waiter to come and take my order. When I asked for the dessert menu, it was brought to me after about 10 minutes. However, after I had made a selection, it turned out that this menu wasn't up to date. It was immediately removed, and I was offered another, valid menu. Couldn't the outdated menu have been scrapped right away instead of misleading the guests? In my opinion, that's not particularly professional. It was also noticeable that, despite the relatively small number of guests, the process seemed so slow. In the end, mixed impressions: not ideal, but not a disappointment either. The atmosphere and cuisine are certainly recommendable, but the service needs improvement. You can visit this restaurant once—but don't set your expectations too high.

Traditional German/Austrian cuisine done well. Highly suggest the classics. Their Schnitzel is the best outside of Vienna and worth the price! That being said, the seasonal menu choices were phenomenal.

I was invited to a business dinner at Lutter & Wegner this evening. We received a very friendly welcome upon arrival – the service was attentive and courteous. For starters, I had beef tartare, which was really good. This was followed by a classic Wiener schnitzel with potato salad. Overall, everything tasted very good. I have to admit that I've had a schnitzel before that I liked a little bit better – but that's complaining at a very high level 😉. All in all, a wonderful experience; I can definitely recommend the restaurant.

The waiter demanded a higher tip than I had offered and forced us to essentially give a 20 percent tip.

Rip off for the food. Demanded that I give them a certain amount for tip. When we gave the amount over not in exact cash, server ran off and hid without giving us the rest of the change. Server kept touching my arm uncomfortably as a woman. Wouldn't recommend here.

Yes, good service, good and plentiful food

A very nice restaurant, we had a very good dinner. The waiters were very professional, the food was very good. Overall a very nice experience if it wasn't for the couple of rats that at around 22:30, when almost everyone was gone, started to hang around the external tables and sometimes had a quick tour inside the main entrance before going out again. A pity.

Tourist trap. Breaded chicken came with brown oyster-sized mystery bits – like roadkill in breadcrumbs. Fried potatoes felt like chewing an eraser dipped in bin juice. And the Apfelstrudel? Microwaved!

The food wasn't great for the price. With the schnitzel, you have to pay for all the side dishes (salad, potatoes, cranberries) separately, otherwise you only get the schnitzel. The potato soup with Frankfurter sausages came with 10 tablespoons of soup and three small slices of sausage. Non-alcoholic beer was not available, and the Coke I ordered was served with the words, "Here's your sugar water!"

Loved this place. Beautiful wood panelled room. Food was incredible. Classic Berlin old school menu. The staff were so kind and attentive. Schnitzel was amazing. I had the Saurbrauten. Which was unbelievably delicious.

We came here spontaneously and easily got a table on a Sunday evening. The food was very good, the service was just as good, and the outdoor seating was lovely. I deducted one star because, for me, a restaurant in this price range should have included some free bread with butter/dip, and the prices were generally too high, despite the very good quality.

It survives on its location and its reputation from the past. We arrived at 6 p.m. and hadn't ordered by 7:15 p.m. One waiter, who was also in a really bad mood, couldn't manage about 20 tables. The food is average.

Servicen började ok, men vi fick vänta på maten i drygt en timme. När jag frågade varför det dröjde så blev servicen katastrofal. Vi gillar fina krogar, och miljön. Den här krogen behöver nog hjälp att utveckla personalen. Vinlistan var den bästa. Utemiljön sådär. Självklart ingen dricks, vilket är kutym för oss, mellan 10-15% normalt.

A charming restaurant in central Berlin, where the interior was beautifully adorned with art pieces. The waiter’s service was pleasant before the payment. I was shocked when he bluntly insisted on a tip as a “good gesture” after I paid by card, visibly upset and angry that we hadn’t tipped. We only had a 10-euro bill, and he offered to give us 5 euros in change, which felt absurd. As a tourist, his behaviour made me think tipping was mandatory in Berlin, so I tipped despite feeling extremely uncomfortable and awkward.

The food was very, very delicious—chanterelles with veal meatballs. Our server was very nice and accommodating (it wasn't busy).

AVOID! Our waiter Jimmy jacked up the bill by adding a portion of cranberries (2 Euros) we never asked for, charged each person 3 Euros for what appeared to complimentary bread & butter, and added a 20 Euro tip for himself. He presented a bill for 140 Euros, but the card rang up 160 Euros - likely because he added a tip for himself. Complete tourist trap. Read the other poor reviews.

Had this booked since January & was really looking forward to it. What a let down! Lighting was too bright, no atmosphere whatsoever & the most miserable waitress we encountered the whole trip! Extremely disappointed & we didn't stay long (also overpriced) £13 for a very small glass of German wine

Excellent cuisine and high-quality food in an atmosphere that unfortunately doesn't match. Both guests and service staff are primarily concerned with material status and, in my experience, are unfriendly to guests who don't strive for material status. For me personally, the atmosphere is unpleasant and interferes with my enjoyment of the meal. In my opinion, the stylish decor and fine cuisine don't match the uncouth behavior of the service staff and many of the guests. It's a real shame. I won't be returning anytime soon.

I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant — both the food and the service left a bad impression. I ordered a dish (pictured) that was completely not to my taste: asparagus with fish in a sweet sauce, served cold. I couldn’t eat it. When we asked for the bill, the waiter (an older gentleman) asked if everything was to our liking. I said no, and he replied that the dish was “normal” and it was just a “matter of taste.” I agreed. He then said he would remove the dish from the bill. I politely declined and said there was no need — we would pay for everything. But he insisted on removing it. The bill came to around €65, and we paid it — plus we left a €10 tip, so about €75 in total. To our surprise, the waiter reacted very rudely and gave us a condescending speech that we should have left a much bigger tip, because he had been “kind enough” to not charge us for the dish — which, as it turns out, cost around €28. This made it clear that his “gesture” of removing the dish was not genuine, but rather a manipulative tactic to guilt us into paying it back as a tip. It felt inappropriate, unprofessional, and frankly dishonest — it damaged both our experience and, in my opinion, the reputation of the restaurant.

I highly recommend this restaurant. Eating there is a must for me every time I visit Berlin. The best Wiener Schnitzel I've ever had. The menu isn't particularly extensive, but it's all the more exquisite.

Ate there with three people on June 12, 2025. The only positive thing: the location is beautiful, both inside and out. There aren't any more positive things to say. We (all three of us) had asparagus risotto (€22). The portion was very small, maybe 5 tablespoons, nothing more. It wasn't clear where the dish got its name from; it only contained traces of asparagus. Non-alcoholic beer: one type (Clausthaler), no choice! To finish, a cappuccino with oat milk: they don't serve oat milk ("we're not a coffee house"). Which brings us to the service: unfriendly, inattentive. Never again.

We came here because something went wrong at our planned restaurant. On the plus side, we were able to get a seat without a reservation, only until 7 p.m., but that was more than enough for us. The service was okay, but unfortunately not suitable for children. For spaghetti with pesto for over €20, I expected some serious quality...unfortunately, it was very greasy and tasted okay, but not amazing. The schnitzel with fried potatoes was quite good. It's a shame there was no selection of fresh vegetables. It wouldn't be worth a second visit for me.

Great place, super service, quality food

We took the classical “award winning “ wiener schnitzel and the sauerbraten. In 5 min it was on the table ( that’s always a bad sign) The Wiener schnitzel was dry , because the baked it probably in the morning with the mise a place. And just put it in the oven to serve it to the customers when it’s busy. I’m a chef myself. No love in the food at all. Tourist trap !

The waitress was gossiping about us and he didn't care at all whether we could hear him. I have never experienced such impudence, simply cheeky and excessive.

We have actually been here multiple times for their wonderful German food and tolerated their less-than friendly service as typical for a locale that is not known for tipping. We took our American friends and the staff's treatment of our group was absolutely embarrassing. From the host to the waiter, the staff were both visibly and VOCALLY impatient with every interaction, even when asked the location of the restroom. The visit culminated in the waiter bringing the check and explaining that tip was not included. He actually checked for a tip when we were leaving and complained when we did not give one (we are used to gratuity in the US and will always tip very generously even in places in Germany where one is not expected). We will not be going back.

My brother and I arrived at the almost empty restaurant around 10:20 a.m. on April 29th after the opera and were greeted by a not very friendly, prissy waiter. We were used to the unfriendly service from previous visits, but since the food was always good, we put up with it. And like in previous years, we were expecting waiting guests again this time. We were finally served by a nice older lady. I ordered a Wiener Schnitzel and my brother ordered asparagus gnocchi, along with two glasses of Côte du Rhône. The veal schnitzel was dry and like a tough piece of leather. The gnocchi were bland and tasteless despite the truffle... The wine for 13 euros a glass had a slight cork taste and came from an old, musty bottle that had been opened. We expressed our displeasure to the employee. After just saying “it’s all about me,” I paid. Never again! after visiting this once nice restaurant almost every year. Luckily, the opera Norma was phenomenal.

Und wie in den vergangenen Jahren erwarteten wir auch dieses Mal wieder wartende Gäste. Wir wurden schließlich von einer netten älteren Dame bedient. Ich bestellte ein Wiener Schnitzel und mein Bruder Spargelgnocchi, dazu zwei Gläser Côte du Rhône. Das Kalbsschnitzel war trocken und wie ein zähes Stück Leder. Die Gnocchi waren trotz Trüffel fad und geschmacklos… Der Wein für 13 Euro das Glas hatte einen leichten Korkgeschmack und stammte aus einer alten, muffig angebrochenen Flasche. Wir äußerten unseren Unmut gegenüber der Angestellten. Nachdem ich nur gesagt hatte „es geht nur um mich“, habe ich bezahlt. Nie wieder! nachdem ich dieses einst nette Restaurant fast jedes Jahr besucht habe. Glücklicherweise war die Oper Norma phänomenal.

Tra i tanti ristoranti berlinesi tipici è senz altro il migliore in termini di qualità delle carni, della scelta dei vini e del servizio. Lo spazio interno è molto gradevole specie per chi ama l arte moderna e contemporanea in quanto ricco di bei dipinti.

Food good, prices cheeky! Nowadays, the schnitzel no longer even comes with the side dishes included, but you can pay extra for them for €4.50 per side dish (potato salad, cranberries, cucumber salad, etc.), as if €29.50 wasn't enough. If you're considering sharing a schnitzel, Lutter and Wegner charges €7.50 for putting a second empty plate down - cheeky! The food tastes very good, you can't complain about it, but in my opinion it's disproportionate to the horrendous prices

En restaurang där vi alltid fått bra wienerschnitzel. Den här gången åt vi sparris med tillbehör och det var mycket bra. Restaurangens egen sekt är mycket god och vi fick ett utmärkt förslag på vin. Servitören var lite speciell men det kunde vi leva med. Vad som gjorde oss förvånade var att när vi bad om notan och skulle betala så hade servitören redan lagt på tio procent på summan i kortmaskinen. Klappat och klart, men jag trodde att det är gästen som bestämmer storleken på dricksen. Vi hade i och för sig lämnat dricks i alla fall men vi vill bestämma storleken på den. Detta hade vi inte förväntat oss på Luther & Wegner.

Beautiful place, much appreciated the fact that they always have an extra menu that follows the seasonality of national products (in my case Asparagus). Very important wine list that covers the whole world, a gem is the selection of Tedeschi GG wines. Definitely worth repeating.

The worst schnitzel I ever had in Germany. Even a cafeteria overpower this. The thinnest schnitzel and most dry food ever. Nothing next to this. The side order potatoes was totally burned and had to leave. 36 euro waste pr person. 10 euro wather and the most expensive lunch/dinner we had in Berlin. Absolutely not worth a try.

The Lutter & Wegner restaurant apparently only lives by its name. The food was okay, but clearly undersalted and simply too expensive for what was offered. The real low point, however, was the service: the older male staff in particular were characterized by unfriendliness, arrogance and a condescending attitude that you don't have to put up with in a restaurant in this price range. There was neither attentive service nor polite response to queries - you almost had the feeling that you were a nuisance as a guest. The only bright spot was a young, friendly service person who at least acted professionally and attentively. The tip was differentiated accordingly. Unfortunately, overall not an experience that I would like to repeat.

Lutter & Wegner is an institution. A wonderful place full of delights. You feel comfortable from the first moment. The hosts are as professional as they are warm. The atmosphere is as stylish as it is casual. What is served on the plates is the highest quality bistro cuisine: concentrated on the main ingredients, the best products and without any frills. Be it the excellent Wiener Schnitzel, the extremely delicately seasoned Königsberger Klopse or the perfectly cooked asparagus: everything is classy. Even for this gastronomically spoiled corner of Berlin, this restaurant is a culinary oasis. It almost goes without saying that the exquisite wine list can fulfill every wish. Therefore: Never again a stay in Berlin without a visit to Lutter & Wegner!

We had been coming here for many years and were really looking forward to it. The restaurant was half empty and we were given a table right by the door. Since there were other tables available, I politely asked for a table inside. The waiter in charge said that he was reserved from 8 p.m. My husband said that we had enough time. The waiter from above has to be enough. You feel very welcome there. Another waiter couldn't remember our order (2 main courses, 1 water, 1 small beer) or explain the dishes. The food was ok, but nothing special. Not recommended!

So quite pricey but we knew that going in. Food was good. Doors wide open so had to keep my coat on so I felt a bit like I was eating my expensive meal on a station platform. But then the bill arrived. No service included. We put the money in cash inside the leather wallet as normal. I would generally then leave the tip on the table as we leave. A bit more discreet than handing it over. But the waiter came and counted the money out in front of us which was very odd in that type of restaurant. And then he told us the tip wasn't included and waited. I told him I knew that. But he told me again, in case I was a bit thick I suppose. He was rather aggressive. We decided against a tip after all. We emptied out our coins though. Enjoy spending your 2.80 euro tip, maybe invest in an evening class in good manners. Had you waited for the original tip we had planned you could have afforded more than one class. God knows you need them.
