Lubitsch in Berlin

We were disappointed. The soup, liver, and Wiener Schnitzel as main courses were mediocre at best—simply bad food. When we pointed this out, they apologized, explaining that the head chef was on vacation. A hastily placed dessert didn't improve matters. And a waiter in a vest, with a pencil behind his ear, was quite disconcerting. Where has the excellent service that once existed gone?

Great location, a bit loud, excellent food and wine. Intimate atmosphere

After a long day at work, Lubitsch was recommended to us, and we couldn't have imagined anything better! The staff were exceptionally friendly and answered all of my mother's questions. The restaurant was very stylishly decorated, the table was beautifully set, and the atmosphere was pleasant. The beef tartare with truffle mayonnaise was divine! Our main courses were equally impressive. The Wiener Schnitzel was very good, but the accompanying potato and cucumber salad was even better, and the Königsberger Klopse (meatballs) were simply divine. All in all, a must-visit for any trip to Berlin! We're already looking forward to our next visit!

Not a restaurant I will select myself, but I was invited by a couple and I was 100% sure it will be on their expenses business card... I was wrong... Quite elegant restaurant and surrounding. Great professional and personal service. Very loudly, we needed to shout to be able to speak. ... but the main problem was the food... mediocre is a severe understatement. I was very very hungry... still I couldn't finish both my starter and main and the same was regarding my wife starter and main... And then we paid €200... unbelievably expensive for food we did not like and a restaurant that would have never be in my list to start with.

A small but fine restaurant on Bleibtreustraße. The menu offers a small selection of typical German dishes. The emphasis here is on quality over quantity, and it works. The Königsberger Klopse (a kind of meatball) was exceptionally good. The extremely friendly service was very helpful. Overall, a very successful business lunch.

Very little space between the tables on the terrace, chairs bump into each other. In an opinion relatively high prices for a comparatively average level of dishes.

For me, the Lubitsch is a place I've returned to frequently during my visits to Berlin for about 20 years. However, I haven't been there since 2019, so I was particularly looking forward to it this time. Currently, I'm wavering between 3 and 4 stars. The tartar came with a fried egg. Traditionally, it would have been better with a raw egg yolk. The bread served with it was sliced too thickly, but charred in places. The cod wasn't cod... On the other hand, the schnitzel was good and large, and the fries were homemade and excellent. The Berliner Leber (liver sausage) was good. The service was classic and good, but one lady was a bit unfriendly. It's a shame that the occasion of the birthday was forgotten during the dessert. This had been discussed differently over the phone, but it doesn't affect my rating here.

For me, Lubitsch is a staple in my culinary repertoire when I'm in Berlin. This time I was there with my family – we immediately felt at home again. The menu offers familiar classics like Königsberger Klopse, mustard eggs, and Wiener Schnitzel, prepared to a remarkably high standard and with palpable attention to detail. Fresh ingredients, skilled craftsmanship, and a clear approach to cooking make every dish special. For anyone who appreciates sophisticated, classic cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere, Lubitsch is a definite recommendation.

A really great restaurant! We had Wiener Schnitzel with asparagus, potatoes, cranberries and melted butter, and for dessert we had cappucino and cheesecake (which was a bit too sweet for my taste). Service courteous, friendly and quick. Very nice atmosphere. All in all a successful evening. Quite expensive, which is ok, couldn't have tasted better. However, the bottle of water 13.40 EUR is very exaggerated.

German-French friendship in Charlottenburg. Here, German cuisine (Senfest, Königsberger Klopse, Wiener Schnitzel) meets French lifestyle (Pernod, champagne, oysters). Reservations are mandatory and you should also bring some time. We're basically in France 😉 The ambience is a symbol of the old West Berlin Charlottenburg. Time seems to stand still.

An overall great dining experience! We had oysters, schnitzel, rump steak and crème brûlée - everything was of excellent quality and tasted to the point. The Negroni was good, but a bit overpriced for the size. The waiters were attentive, but the atmosphere was a bit uneasy due to the loud noise and private conversations of the staff. Nevertheless, a clear recommendation for good food in Berlin!

A stroke of luck on a Sunday: The Lubitsch on Bleibtreustrasse During our spontaneous Sunday walk we happened upon Lubitsch on Bleibtreustrasse – and what a stroke of luck! Despite the high number of visitors, we were still able to get a place, which suggests that a reservation here is advisable. As soon as we entered we were greeted by a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The ambience is tasteful and cozy, perfect for a relaxing afternoon. The service was attentive and extremely friendly from start to finish, which added to the positive impression. The dishes were excellently prepared and attractively presented. Every course demonstrated high quality and care. We were particularly impressed by the well-stocked and surprisingly inexpensive wine list - a real highlight! The Lubitsch convinced us completely. We are already looking forward to our next visit and can recommend this restaurant to anyone who values ​​good food, friendly service and a pleasant atmosphere.

best Schnitzel in town even though it has a feeling as you were in Paris

Nein, es ist keine Geschmacksfrage. Das Essen war grandios! Doch der Reihe nach. Vor einem Theaterbesuch hat unsere fünfköpfige Truppe, zwei ältere Paare und ein 15jähriger Riese einen Tisch in diesem Restaurant gebucht. Die Speisekarte, vorher schon im Internet gelesen, bietet "interessante" Gerichte an. Wir bestellten, für (Vorspeisen war leider keine Zeit), zweimal Spinatknödel, einmal Trüffelrisotto, Schweinebäckchen, und der Knabe - wenn schon denn schon - das atemberaubend teuere Steak. Ja, es war teuer, sehr teuer. ( Ob er das ordern würde, müsste er zwei Stunden für Mindestlohn dafür arbeiten?) Drei Nichtalkoholiker hielten sich ans Wasser, einmal würde rosa Cremant und einmal deutscher Grauburgunder. "Lecker!" der Cremant, "schön frisch" fiel das Urteil für den Wein aus. Das Trüffelrisotto mussten wir alle probieren! Ein Geschmackshammer, der Schreiber hat sowas noch nie erlebt! Auch beim kleinsten "Gastbissen" waren Mund, Nase und Gaumen aufs Angenehmste beschäftig. Die Spinatknödel waren auch eine Wucht! Ein sanfter Buttergeschmack schmeichelt dem Gaumen, der Spinat mit seinem natürlich leicht metallenem Beigeschmack orchestriert das Ganze in Perfektion. Für beide Speisen indes empfiehlt es sich jeden Diätplan auszublenden! Als leidenschaftliche Köchin hat die Esserin der Schweinbäckchen uns wieder auf den Boden geholt. "Ganz ok, schmeckt gut. Aber das kann ich besser. Convenient?" Junior strahlt. Die fachkundige Beratung des Kellners bei der Bestellung, Filet oder Entre Côte, hat ihm geschmeichelt. Generös fiel die Wahl auf Entre Côte. Die Pommes.. die Pommes. "Wie geil sind die denn?" Tief zufrieden satt gabs noch einen Espresso und sogar einen Kakao. Die Rechnung? Seufz, der Bürgergeldempfänger wird so ein Mahl wohl kaum erleben. Schade. Wir werden uns das wieder leisten! Unvergesslich.

Very friendly service, clean and quiet atmosphere with very good food

Wir waren zu einem Geschäftsreisen dort und das Restaurant ist relativ klein und somit optimal für gute Gespräche geeignet. Sehr leckeres Essen, tolles Ambiente, sicherlich ein Geheimtipp inmitten von Berlin.

Beautiful little restaurant at Savignyplatz, named in honour of my favourite director Ernst Lubitsch. Food is presented beautiful, but did not enjoy the taste and portion was way too small. Besides I hated that the waiter automatically presets 15 % tip when paying. 41 Euro for a tiny fish filet plus Lubitsch Ldmonade? I will definitely not come back! There are too many other elegant restaurants in Berlin, like Veronika or Bocco di Bacco.

Recommended by the hotel to which we asked to recommend a restaurant with local cuisine, it directed us to this lovely restaurant, small so it is better to book, and it was a pleasant surprise. We started with a soup and a consumme', both delicious and we shared the Viennese cutlet "Schnitzel" as it was truly abundant. Closed with a homemade dessert, a decidedly filling cheesecake. The wide choice of aperitifs is interesting. The place seems to be frequented mostly by locals and this in itself is usually an excellent guarantee.

Unfortunately, restaurants like this are now a rarity and should therefore definitely be supported. A familiar yet sophisticated atmosphere, warm service and a very good quality and selection of food and drinks. This has its price, but it is completely okay for the performance offered.

Mediocre German food in a pretentious package and overpriced. What annoyed me the most was that the first waiter who sat me down said they don’t serve tap water. Later another waitress asked me what I would like to drink - I said I know you don’t serve tap water… and she said- sure I’ll bring you tap water. The first waiter however seems to represent the spirit of the (German) place. I ideologically oppose places who don’t serve tap water or give costumers shit about it and being pretentious cuz their food is expensive.

Nice restaurant, good service but the goose we were really looking forward to was disappointing. The meat was tough and the skin wasn't crispy. They took note of our criticism, confirmed the defects and still collected the full amount.

Very nice restaurant, good lunch menu, good value for money

Lubitsch briefly summarized: For 25 minutes we had no service at all, neither drinks nor food. We felt completely ignored and had to speak to the waiters ourselves to even be served. The service was arrogant and complacent. Red wine was served chilled, wine list was manageable and expensive. Hurray, starter arrived after repeated inquiries after 1 1/2 hours despite the restaurant only being half full. Starters came lukewarm, soup without pumpkin seed oil, as advertised on the menu. As compensation, we were kindly offered a drink on the house. Unfortunately, the main courses were only lukewarm and not very exciting. The Königsberger Klopse tasted like canteen food. This was also noticed at the neighboring table. Overall impression: nice ambience, substandard service and mediocre food quality. The price-performance ratio is really not right here. Luckily there are many alternatives in Berlin.

Lost for words. Lying in-between two famous roads of Berlin 'under a bridge' lies the Lubitsch Restaurant. Historical flair with modern ambience, international staff and very delicious drinks and food. I sure will be coming back again.

Absolutely recommended. This is how the combination of German-French-Austrian cuisine works. Very fine ambience, clean (including sanitary) and attentive service. The Wiener Schnitzel, better than some in Vienna. The only flaw...the wine glasses could be improved.

Charlottenburg has countless really good restaurants. Some are a little more special, i.e. above the already high Charlottenburg average. The Lubitsch is definitely one of them. I was at a closed event where you could eat your way through the entire menu and I have to say: really good. The desserts are particularly good. Interesting German wines, a very good (red) cuvée from Schneider, also a great Pinot Gris. Service was very nice, you don't get that often in Berlin restaurants. The menu was in English, which is a guarantee that you won't meet Jens Spahn here. - So: If you want to have a nice evening in a very good Charlottenburg restaurant, this is the right place. Also the one who just wants to drink a good wine or try the delicious desserts. The other dishes are also good, but the wines and desserts clearly stand out. Clear 5 stars and a streak-free recommendation.

I’m an little heartbroken; this used to be our “last night in Berlin” favorite special restaurant. But apparently American dinners are not welcome here anymore and the quality of the food has really dropped. Despite having made a reservation months ago, we were given a terrible table (even those walking in without a reservation were seated at nicer tables). The pumpkin soup lacked flavor and was too thin. The Wiener schnitzel was dry and had a soapy aftertaste. Service was indifferent. Don’t bother unless you’re a regular (and maybe they would have taken more care with the meal).

This place is a horror for the residents, so we cannot recommend the store in principle. Always too loud, even during the week, screaming guests terrorize all the surrounding apartments. A clear NO to this store, a workforce that doesn't have your store under control. All the neighbors hate this store.

Excellent restaurant! Also suitable for groups and business dinners. The pumpkin cream and the Viennese shnitzel are exquisite, which I recommend sharing because it is very large. The desserts are also excellent. I paid 40 euros including tip and drinks. Very recommended!

The reason to make a stop over in Berlin was to pick up my daughter after a week-long writing course and bring her to Copenhagen. I chose this venerable Berliner restaurant since it was midway between her air B&B and my hotel and also since their menu suited our taste, ox cheek for me and pike perch for Olivia. Cooking was perfect and service by our French, perfectly German speaking waiter was impeccable. The wine lists is particularly rich in various wines by the glass. As usual when in Germany we drank local, a Grauburgunder for Olivia and a Spätburgunder for me, both of good quality. Overall good value for money. Highly recommended!

Great traditional food with excellent service. Relaxed atmosphere and excellent staff made this such a memorable occasion that we returned 2 nights later.

Heute spontan mit einer Freundin eine Kleinigkeit dort essen gewesen! Eigentlich habe ich es immer in sehr guter Erinnerung gehabt und war dort immer sehr zufrieden. Heute fand ich tatsächlich, dass das Essen eine absolute Enttäuschung war. Nur einige Gäste um 15 Uhr dort - es hat ewig gedauert - "Cerviche" absolut geschmacksneutral wie nur mit Limettensaft übergossen, mache ich selbst um Welten besser (zum Glück - ist ja auch kein Hexenwerk), das Personal - ich weiss nicht, hoffe mal, dass ich es heute nur schlecht angetroffen habe, es fehlte mir einfach an allem, weiß nicht, ob ich noch mal einen Versuch mache, dafür war es zu teuer- um enttäuscht zu sein! Schade, ich fand, dass die das mal richtig gut dort gemacht haben! Sabine

Good, solid cuisine, but not exceptional. Friendly service staff.

I've been there several times now. 2016, 2018 and now 2024 even twice. As always, I was impressed with the service and the quality of the food. This year I particularly enjoyed the Franconian asparagus salad with pea sorbet, Frankfurt green sauce and radishes, as well as roasted cauliflower on the second visit with carrot sesame sauce and pea mousseline. But everything else was fine too. The selection of drinks is also very good. Gladly again and again!

Zuhause bei Freunden mit Freunden. Sehr gutes Essen: Blumenkohl als Vorspeise neu interpretiert und ein perfektes Schnitzel mit feinem Kartoffelsalat. Steak wurde auch verzehrt und Spargel. Besser geht nicht. Preis mehr als angemessen. Service sehr zuvorkommend und Atmosphäre edel entspannt. Fazit: weitere Besuche sind ein Muss! Danke.

Greeted by a very friendly waiter, food was impeccable and full of flavour. The Tuna and duck salad were highlights. Some brilliant German wines available that are worth trying. It is busy during peak times so worth booking ahead.

Dans un quartier très sympathique de l'ex Berlin-Ouest (en quelque sorte le quartier de la contre-escarpe à Paris), un restaurant calme et très agréable. Service attentionné et rapide. La salade de pommes de terre est à tomber et la wiener schnitzel imposante est en réalité légère comme une plume. Vins et plats, tout est excellent.

Even as an 18-year-old, I appreciated the ambience of such bistro's. I felt it was something special to be in such an atmosphere just to have a café, simply because it gave the feeling that you were there with the older people and that, like them, you also had something to "say" and have a say . Unfortunately, at the time I was looking for a place in the LUBITSCH, it was very full, so I had to give up my plan to be a guest. But I will definitely come back just because of the very stimulating impression. Even without having consumed anything there, I would happily give it 3 stars for the good feeling I had when I was there!

Great food in a super nice atmosphere. My absolute tip: the best Tafelspitz in the city. From veal with crunchy bouillon vegetables and lots of horseradish. Only the atmosphere is a bit musty. But not the great people who really manage the shop in a relaxed, family-like manner... and give you a classic, quick and super friendly welcome.
