We sat outside - the atmosphere and the servers were super friendly, and the food was good! Highly recommended!

Worst service ever. We had to wait for half an hour for our order to be taken. 40 minutes later, no food had been served. We had to leave the restaurant very disappointed.

Having recently had very good experiences at L'Osteria in Wuppertal, I visited the restaurant on Essen's Kennedyplatz today at noon on August 23, 2025, and sat outside to eat. I was handed a menu and the daily specials. First, I took my drink order, then my food order. Large pizzas, as is well known, were deliciously topped, in our case, with a "Tre Funghi" from the daily specials, with mascarpone sauce, chanterelles, mushrooms, and arugula. Very tasty, delivered quickly and hot to our table, and the checkout process was also quick. Friendly staff—nothing to complain about. I'd gladly return.

Just had a delicious meal at this restaurant. I found it a bit difficult to tip at the end. Perhaps because I couldn't check the receipt. So, you only see the total amount, so you can't really check if it's correct.

I actually love the food and the atmosphere at L'Osteria. However, I unfortunately discovered that the Essen City Center branch is a complete disaster. All the waiters, really. All the waiters are totally unfriendly and provide very poor service. I've gone there several times to see if it's really always like that, and unfortunately, I've been disappointed time and time again. L'Osteria, yes, but not in Essen City Center.

The food is very good and the service is attentive. The restaurant is located in the pedestrian zone and has a lovely outdoor area.

Delicious pizza, centrally located in Essen. However, there is one criticism: the half pizza didn't add up to a whole one; the slices were a bit smaller. The drinks were also quite expensive. The Parmigiano pizza had very little Parmesan cheese on it and only a small tomato.

We spontaneously decided to eat at L'Osteria. We didn't have to wait for a table because we were the first guests inside. Since it was so quiet, we were able to order quickly. The Coke was easy enough. However, ordering the food wasn't working at all. One of the dishes was correct, namely the pasta from the rotating menu. The other pasta from the permanent menu was either completely misunderstood or incorrectly routed to the kitchen. We ordered spaghetti arugula e pomodorini, and the version with the basil leaf was brought to our table. Since I'm allergic to onions, I wouldn't have chosen this dish. So I sent it back and quickly received the correct dish. A waitress apologized. The server who was supposed to serve us, however, didn't. The food tasted okay. (The spaghetti that was ordered later, however, wasn't completely remade; it was just rinsed and refried with the correct sauce. This was noticeable in the dish.) Just the same as always. But we'd never experienced such a faux pas at a L'Osteria before. Nevertheless, we decided not to return to this chain restaurant. At least the order was corrected accordingly on the bill.

I sat down and waited exactly 19 minutes for the waiter to arrive. I got up and went to eat next door. Tip for the owner: don't skimp on your employees. You could have recouped what the employee would have earned in a day through us. Best regards, Hasa

CATASTROPHE ABOUT THIS, THE SERVICE IS TERRIBLE!!!! No waiter cares about the customers in this place. The two of us wanted to eat here at L'osteria, but were completely dissuaded by their attitude. The waiters walked past us for at least 10 minutes, staring us in the face but continuing to completely ignore us. The food is okay, but tastes like frozen food from the supermarket.

There was one particular waiter who walked past us for 10 minutes, even though we'd mentioned several times that we wanted to order, but he didn't seem to care at all. As if that weren't enough, our food didn't arrive until 47 minutes later, even though there were only two of us and we'd therefore only ordered two dishes. The service was absolutely terrible.

Large portions for a reasonable price, plus great Italian music inside and lots of trees outside. The food came very quickly and was well-seasoned. It's also close to the main train station, so it's nicely central. The staff were always quick to help with any questions. It's highly recommended.

I'm so sorry this is only a 3-star review, but I've never been served by such an unfriendly waiter (he had a bald head and a black beard, around 40-50 years old). When we arrived at the restaurant, we weren't greeted. We were seated at a table without comment, and after 10 minutes, our order was taken. My friend wanted a Coke, but had forgotten to say she wanted a small one. When she tried to point this out, he just raised his finger and told her to wait. When he finished typing, he left without saying whether it was a small Coke or a large one he'd ordered. A large Coke arrived, but from a different waiter, who was incredibly nice! He offered to change the bill, and my friend was allowed to keep the large one. She declined to avoid any inconvenience. When we went to pay, the unfriendly waiter came again. He really seemed so listless, and his manner was simply unfriendly and even condescending. He asked monotonously whether we were paying separately or together. Then each of us said what we had ordered and we paid separately. When it was my turn, I also listed. I had a pizza and an iced tea. The machine said €23. I asked the waiter if something had been entered incorrectly, since I only had the pizza and the drink. He then replied succinctly that it was the rest of the order. I told him that I only had the pizza and the drink, and someone else had also paid. He then said that the tiramisu was also included in the bill. I felt like I needed to have a discussion with him. He could have simply changed the amount, and it would have been fine. After we all paid, he left without comment. No goodbye, no nice evening, nothing. We were all shocked because we hadn't experienced such service before. His manner and facial expressions were truly unsuitable for service. He didn't treat us like guests, but rather like a burden, as if we weren't welcome. The waiter who brought us our food and drinks, however, was super nice, friendly, and funny! Thank you for that. You made our evening a little more enjoyable! There's nothing wrong with the food. It's absolutely delicious, as always!

I had two dishes today, both disappointing. The zucchini noodles with shrimp were far too oily and unbalanced in flavor. Unfortunately, the celery completely ruined the flavor of the pasta. The Gelsenkirchen branch didn't use any celery in this dish. The regular pasta with tomato sauce was completely watery, devoid of any flavor. The sauce had barely any tomato flavor; I had to add more salt several times, but it didn't help. I'd rather not give it a star. The prices are outrageous for food like this. Furthermore, the service was almost nonsensical, even though the restaurant wasn't full. For €30, I didn't get a single edible dish. Very disappointing, not again.

The restaurant is located in the heart of the city center and is therefore easily accessible. However, pedestrians can sometimes be a nuisance if you sit outside. The food was delicious and arrived quite quickly for our group. The staff was friendly and accommodating.

We arrived here hungry from the airport and were greeted warmly by the waitress just before closing at 11:30 p.m. They were already cleaning up here and there, but we were still able to order something at the last minute. L'Osteria: always good, always happy to come back. We've visited several locations now and love the concept and the pizzas. Tip: The pizzas are very large. You can also order the pizza with two different toppings and share it at no extra charge. This makes sense for us, as it prevents the pizza from getting cold and you can order a second one afterward and share it again.

We were here with an international group. There were plenty of menus in English. The food and service were excellent, and the value for money was unbeatable.

The pizzas are huge, super crispy, and delicious – the "Pizza Prosciutto e Funghi" is my favorite! The pasta is always fresh and delicious, too. The service is friendly, attentive, and well-organized despite being busy. The atmosphere is lively yet cozy, and the Italian flair immediately creates a holiday feeling. The value for money is also absolutely perfect. Definitely recommended for a relaxing evening with friends or family – I'd love to come back!

Hello Osteria Team, Today I was at the Essen branch for the first and unfortunately last time as I'm currently on a business trip. I love Osteria...but TODAY IT WAS A DISASTER.... It started off quite nicely with the order. As I mentioned, I'm an Osteria fan...but when my pizza arrived (half Parmigiana and half Vegetariana), it wasn't of the usual quality. The grilled vegetables (eggplant, etc.) were carelessly cut into really thick pieces. The oregano wasn't really noticeable, arugula was slapped into a pile in a corner. Tomatoes...one...small...and I didn't really taste the garlic either. If I didn't know Osteria...but like that :-( Okay, then two waiters at the tables near me didn't even ask if I wanted another drink after my empty glass had been sitting there for a while. No chance of catching a glimpse to order...there were actually larger groups there...including one next to me. They were more sensitive to checking whether everything is OK. So after I wanted to pay, it took 20 minutes before I could pay. I got the waiter's nod twice...I thought, OK, he'll come. No, another large group was taking their orders. I'd had enough, so I got up and went inside to pay. I'm extremely disappointed with this restaurant...and angry, too. I will, of course, continue to visit Osteria. But not this one!!!!

War neulich mit ein paar Freunden bei L’Osteria. Ich hatte eine Pasta und dazu einen Peach Eistee. Die Portion war echt groß und hat gut satt gemacht. Geschmacklich war’s auf jeden Fall sehr lecker. Der Service war auch total nett!
