The pizzas were very tasty and the service was great. Overall it's a little loud but still very nice.

A perfect place to spend an afternoon with friends. The food is very tasty, the prices are reasonable, and the location of the restaurant is in the middle of the city of Essen. The atmosphere is pleasant. However, the customer service could be improved a bit - the food took a long time to prepare, and there were also delays in ordering drinks and other things. Nevertheless, the restaurant is cozy and recommended.

The service was very friendly and quick, even if we had to ask for two of our drinks again. Unfortunately my pizza wasn't as good as the one I had three years ago. No drinks while standing. Actually a nice place, but if you want to have a drink at the standing columns before you go to Stratmanns, they say no drinks while standing. There's no better way to scare away guests... I don't want to sit here anymore...

Treated antisocially by an employee here. Totally not used to our experience a year earlier. Booking more than a month in advance with confirmation is apparently not enough to have a place in this restaurant. No response, cooperation or customer friendliness to be expected at all. (Young man, dark hair, mustache, dark glasses)

The last shop. We wanted to order a drink, but in order not to take up other guests' table space, we wanted to sit in one of the standing areas. Condition: “only works at the table!” There was only one person sitting at one of the tables and we wanted to join them. The guest also offered us the seats. Then the waitress came and shouted at us: “We don’t like people sitting down somewhere.” It's difficult to get friendly and good staff. We'll never come back here!!!

Nice atmosphere, but sometimes louder. Very quick and friendly service. The food has always been of a consistently high standard over several visits. Since it's not listed below, my absolute favorite is Bruscetta, Pizza Americana and the perfect tiramisu at the end

Before visiting the Stratmann Theater we wanted to order a cocktail. Since all the tables were occupied, we stood at a bar table on the supports. Unfortunately it was not possible to place an order because, according to the waiter, "service is only given to seated guests"...whoever wants that can understand that...

I was here for dinner yesterday and would love to come back! Really attentive staff and the food was delicious too. The ambience in the living room flair is, above all, totally cozy! I deducted one point because of the noise. Unfortunately, at the large table you could only hear the people sitting next to you, as it was generally very loud despite the good layout of the shop. The selection of food isn't huge, but it's absolutely great! Requests for changes will be gladly taken into account. You mainly get pizza and pasta here, then there are a few meat dishes and a changing seasonal menu. With the seasonal menu as a supplement, I found the selection really great! The pizza dough is given enough rest time and is prepared in a visible, open pizza oven, which I personally think is really cool. €15.50 for a portion of pasta in garlic sauce with tomato pieces, rosemary and shaved parmesan & a glass of white wine (Soave). You really can't complain about that. Absolutely recommended!

During my meal visit I visited Leo's Casa as it was conveniently located right next to my hotel. The restaurant exudes a cozy atmosphere and the staff are always very friendly and attentive. The menu itself offers classic Italian cuisine that tastes delicious and leaves nothing to be desired in terms of both quality and visual presentation. And the prices are more than fair too.

The taste of the food has deteriorated over the years - a simple tomato soup tastes like canned tomatoes mixed with water. You have to season it yourself, but you can't save it with salt and pepper. The César salad also tastes 0815. Salmon pasta doesn't taste bad, but there are no noticeable flavor notes, everything tastes the same and is very heavy in the stomach. The ambience consists of over 50 gestures that look at a normal loud conversation with laughter and contemptuous looks.

Seven of us ate there and we all really enjoyed it. I can recommend the tagliatelle e gamberi, but there was one drawback. The shrimp had been fried 2-3 minutes too long, so they were a little rubbery. The portion size was a little small, but just about enough for most people. The price-performance ratio was also very good, the noodles cost me €14.90 and my non-alcoholic Hefeweizen cost €5.10. The ambience on site is also really nice. The service was really very good at what she did there. All the handles were correct and it wasn't cleared away while someone else was eating. I can only recommend the restaurant.

Beautiful outdoor area at the Stratmanns Theater on Kennedyplatz. Good service, quite attentive and, apart from one order, quite quickly. Since I didn't order anything to eat, I can't rate it. The prices are okay and the selection of both food and drinks is good. Invites you to linger.

Nice restaurant in the old Amerikahaus in Essen

We (two adults) went to Leo's Casa for lunch today. The Italian specialty restaurant is located in the middle of Essen city center on Kennedyplatz, not far from the theater and opposite the Motel one hotel and the cathedral. The restaurant is very large and, according to the menu, can accommodate over 200 guests. Because of the excellent weather, we sat on the large sun terrace under the umbrellas on rustic wooden chairs, but that didn't detract from the upscale ambience. We ordered a non-alcoholic strawberry colada cocktail, a large bottle of San Pellegrino, caprese as a starter, a pizza agnello (pizza with lamb strips and garlic sauce), tagliatelle pollo e pomodoro (ribbon pasta with chicken and tomato sauce) and a chocolate pyramid as dessert. We paid 55.60 euros for this, which is a rather low price compared to other cities. The quality of the food was good (the tomatoes in the caprese starter were a bit watery), the dishes were served hot and pleasantly presented. The taste of the food impressed us; there was no reason for criticism, which is why we gave it full points. When it comes to service, we first have to say that the waiter was very friendly and attentive. However, a colleague served the drinks and generously swirled the bottle over the glasses while pouring the water so that the table was also "served". This in no way fits with the upscale ambience or standards of the restaurant. However, the waitress made no move to wipe away the water if necessary or to put a napkin under the bottle. Unfortunately, the drinks only came after our starter, which didn't really suit the hot weather and the menu. It's a shame, but this is part of good service, which is why we made deductions here. Because of the attentiveness of the waiter (second cutlery after the starter, as the pizza needed a sharper knife) and the friendliness shown to us, which we also rewarded with a 5 euro tip, we received a 3 star rating overall. Regarding the ambience, it should be said that the outside terrace, the inside rooms and also the toilets are clean and well-kept, and inside, attention is also paid to detail in the table decoration. One point was deducted for the single-layer and very thin toilet paper, the dispenser of which was more reminiscent of a train station than an upscale restaurant. It's incomprehensible to me that the guests are being saved here and that the female guests in particular certainly find it rather unhygienic. That's why we deducted one star, although there shouldn't be any real criticism of other things. Every lover of Italian cuisine who is visiting Essen and staying in the city center should visit Leoś Casa. We can give an unreserved recommendation here. The price-performance ratio convinced us, give it a try.

The stars go to the extremely friendly waitress - unfortunately the food wasn't convincing at all. Cheap prices, but unfortunately also corresponding quality. The chicken in the pasta dish was not edible and the sauce tasted like Maggifix. You used to be able to eat very well in Leo's Casa, which is a shame.

We wanted to sit at a table with a strange couple, but that wasn't allowed. Rarely have I visited such an inflexible restaurant. We left again and won't be coming back. Germany, a service desert, would not be handled like this in any other country in Europe.

While looking for an Italian restaurant or at least a restaurant that offers pasta dishes, we ended up here very hungry. Since the outside area seemed unkempt and I prefer to eat inside anyway, we went in, but despite there being enough free seats, we were directed to the inner bar area or outside because everything inside was reserved. Such nonsense, since we had to wait for a very long time, we could see that the area was not filled. In the summer I wear shorts and it should still be possible to sit in them in a normal restaurant without getting dressed up. Because we were hungry, we sat outside at dangerously worn and chipped, very unkempt tables. I've been eating in outdoor restaurant areas for over 50 years, but unfortunately this one was one of the most unkempt. Menus were brought. No standard dishes like Bolognese or Aglio e Olio or Arrabiata? We first ordered drinks, among other things. A house wine came that was warm, not at a good temperature, but really unpleasantly warm. Since I wanted to drink it with dinner, I let it cool down (!). We then placed an order for carbonara and a pasta dish with tuna. After a while (more than 20, more like 30 minutes) the waiter came and said that the kitchen had asked if we really wanted the tuna... I then said, well, there are no standard dishes like aglio e olio. Oh, we can do that for you. So we reordered accordingly, and from that point on we waited around three quarters of an hour. The food was very freshly cooked, hot and tasty, lots of pasta, relatively little sauce... but at a good price (<10 euros each!). After about two hours we left full. Even today, full ashtrays have to be cleared away and replaced with fresh ones when a new guest sits down at the table! Please note! You don't leave the dirty dishes behind either! An absolute nogo disgusting even for smokers. I put ours far away on the ground, where it stayed... One point about the ambience due to the unkempt and uncomfortable outdoor area (ashtrays, rotten wood, chairs without cushions...), I sent a photo to a relative who said based on the furniture that it could also be in someone's garden, that's what it looks like . Well, I don't know anyone who looks so shabby. A schnapps or something similar on the house would also have been a nice gesture if you're waiting so long! The waiter who served us tried very hard to find something to our liking and was very friendly!

The location at Kennedyplatz is nice and you can sit comfortably in the outdoor area with a view. For an aperitif we ordered a mixed salad, tagliatelle with scampi and a pizza with Parma. The noodles were well cooked, decent portion, seasoned a bit bland. The pizza maker didn't have a good hand that evening, as neither the sauce nor the poor toppings could score points here. In total it is enough for 3 points, even if the waiting time for the food was very long. The price is reasonable, the service is super nice!

Die Lage am Kennedyplatz ist schön und im Außenbereich sitzt man gemütlich und mit Aussicht. Wir orderten zum Apertiv einen gemischten Salat, Tagliatelle mit Scampi und eine Pizza mit Parma. Die Nudeln waren gut gekocht, anständige Portion, etwas fade gewürzt. Der Pizzabäcker hatte an diesem Abend kein gutes Händchen, den weder der Sugo noch der dürftige Belag, konnte hier punkten. In Summe reicht es für 3 Punkte, auch wenn die Wartezeiten auf die Speisen schon sehr lange gedauert hat. Der Preis ist angemessen, der Service super nett!

Staff were lovely and friendly, despite the language barrier. I visited this restaurant solo, I was very comfortable here and enjoyed my visit. Reasonably priced considering the location. The pizza was so huge I couldn’t finish it!

The location is right in the city center and really good. You can also sit outside very well if the weather permits. The food is solid and tastes good. I personally wouldn't say whether it was "original Italian" (of course I'm not an expert), but the carbonara, for example, was made with cream instead of just egg. But it still tasted good. The service is attentive and friendly. The best place to park is in the Centralgarage at Kennedyplatz. The underground car park is modern, clean and well lit.

Maccheroni salmone were tasty, but there was little salmon and the parmesan, which was in 4 large slices in the middle of the pasta, I would have preferred small shavings.

Good stop to have something to drink and eat after a walk along the Ruhr or a bike ride. It is very loud inside during busy periods.

I was there for the first time today and happily ordered “Maccheroni funghi e prosciutto Original Italian macaroni, mushrooms with ham in a tomato cream sauce”, because I love macaroni. But penne was served with a few mushrooms and a few pieces of ham. After I politely asked if I had made a mistake in the choice of pasta, the waitress said: “The boss says it’s macaroni!” and that was it, turned around and gone. Unfortunately the penne wasn't tasty, but I was hungry... No recommendation from me and I don't actually write reviews, I had to...

Coincidentally, we saw the menu cards hanging on the facade. Turned out to be next to the theater. Were pleasantly surprised by the furnishings. Friendly staff and very good service. Have an open kitchen where everything is freshly prepared. We had a delicious meal, pasta and pizza, a small gem in the center of Essen. Will definitely come back, perhaps next time we visit.

What a great place. We walked in for a meal and have enjoyed ourselves tremendously. It was good pizza in a real Italian wood oven. Desserts where great and the staff was super friendly and helpfull. Although very busy the waiting times were not very long. To bad we didn't stay longer in Essen because we would have gone back.

Had dinner at Leo Casa this evening. I ordered vegetarian pizza. This is what they served, it's not even a pizza. No tomato sauce, a pile of sautéed vegetables in the middle. Very disappointed. And their website says they serve traditional Italian dishes. This pizza (or whatever it was) will shock all of Italy. Please learn how to make pizza from your neighbor “Losteria”. Apart from that, the ambience and service were good.

This restaurant does not value disabled people. The paths to the toilet for old people who have to walk with a walker are too narrow and partially blocked. If you point out that it is very difficult to get to the toilet, you will be treated unfriendly by the staff. So according to the motto, I don't have time for something like that. If I had put the tables and chairs to the side, access wouldn't have been possible. Maybe the nice lady will come into a situation like that and she'll understand that too. In and of itself a very nice, cozy café restaurant in the city of Essen. The food is tasty, good cocktails, good value for money. The staff has always been attentive and friendly. On our last visit around 2 p.m. we were assigned a table in the large room. However, when we ordered coffee and cake, the waitress noticed that we would have had to sit at the small tables in the entrance area for coffee and cake (a lot of draft through the constantly opening door). We were served anyway. Unfortunately, even after a second order, we were asked every 20 minutes if we wanted to order something else. This is very annoying and disturbing. A table reservation in advance is recommended.

Very nice and beautiful place. The food is wonderful. We ordered salads, pizzas, pasta and steak, everything was very tasty. The waitress was not very polite. Overall service was slow and inadequate. We paid by card and the rate at which the euro was exchanged was 20% higher than the official rate. Another thing I didn't like was that there is the entrance to the theater and during the intermission about 100 people came out to literally smoke on our heads. I can't say that I would recommend the restaurant!

The ordered dish was very tasty. Unfortunately, we were cheated when paying - after paying and leaving the table, we realized that the bill was much too large, then we realized why the waiter, right after paying by card, crumpled the bill and put it in his pocket. We came back to explain the situation with the waiter - he ostentatiously threw 20 Euro on our table and left without a word of apology!! I've been to this place several times and it was always very nice, but after what happened to me today I don't feel like coming back here.

So let's start with unkempt tables outside, service ok until criticism came🤣. Food for us nothing special 08/15, pasta with chicken tomatoes for 13.90 euros without taste, just water sauce. Simply unloving, you can eat pizza but it didn't upset us either. Caesar salad for 10.90 euros is the biggest joke, iceberg lettuce, some grated cheese and 2 pieces of bread, including ready-made dressing. We say, no thanks, not again.
