We (two adults) went to Leo's Casa for lunch today. The Italian specialty restaurant is located in the middle of Essen city center on Kennedyplatz, not far from the theater and opposite the Motel one hotel and the cathedral. The restaurant is very large and, according to the menu, can accommodate over 200 guests. Because of the excellent weather, we sat on the large sun terrace under the umbrellas on rustic wooden chairs, but that didn't detract from the upscale ambience. We ordered a non-alcoholic strawberry colada cocktail, a large bottle of San Pellegrino, caprese as a starter, a pizza agnello (pizza with lamb strips and garlic sauce), tagliatelle pollo e pomodoro (ribbon pasta with chicken and tomato sauce) and a chocolate pyramid as dessert. We paid 55.60 euros for this, which is a rather low price compared to other cities. The quality of the food was good (the tomatoes in the caprese starter were a bit watery), the dishes were served hot and pleasantly presented. The taste of the food impressed us; there was no reason for criticism, which is why we gave it full points. When it comes to service, we first have to say that the waiter was very friendly and attentive. However, a colleague served the drinks and generously swirled the bottle over the glasses while pouring the water so that the table was also "served". This in no way fits with the upscale ambience or standards of the restaurant. However, the waitress made no move to wipe away the water if necessary or to put a napkin under the bottle. Unfortunately, the drinks only came after our starter, which didn't really suit the hot weather and the menu. It's a shame, but this is part of good service, which is why we made deductions here. Because of the attentiveness of the waiter (second cutlery after the starter, as the pizza needed a sharper knife) and the friendliness shown to us, which we also rewarded with a 5 euro tip, we received a 3 star rating overall. Regarding the ambience, it should be said that the outside terrace, the inside rooms and also the toilets are clean and well-kept, and inside, attention is also paid to detail in the table decoration. One point was deducted for the single-layer and very thin toilet paper, the dispenser of which was more reminiscent of a train station than an upscale restaurant. It's incomprehensible to me that the guests are being saved here and that the female guests in particular certainly find it rather unhygienic. That's why we deducted one star, although there shouldn't be any real criticism of other things. Every lover of Italian cuisine who is visiting Essen and staying in the city center should visit Leoś Casa. We can give an unreserved recommendation here. The price-performance ratio convinced us, give it a try.

The food was good, but pretty down-to-earth. There is not a large selection of food (if you want to eat something other than pizza) and you can cook almost everything yourself without any special skills.

The stars go to the extremely friendly waitress - unfortunately the food wasn't convincing at all. Cheap prices, but unfortunately also corresponding quality. The chicken in the pasta dish was not edible and the sauce tasted like Maggifix. You used to be able to eat very well in Leo's Casa, which is a shame.

We wanted to sit at a table with a strange couple, but that wasn't allowed. Rarely have I visited such an inflexible restaurant. We left again and won't be coming back. Germany, a service desert, would not be handled like this in any other country in Europe.

While looking for an Italian restaurant or at least a restaurant that offers pasta dishes, we ended up here very hungry. Since the outside area seemed unkempt and I prefer to eat inside anyway, we went in, but despite there being enough free seats, we were directed to the inner bar area or outside because everything inside was reserved. Such nonsense, since we had to wait for a very long time, we could see that the area was not filled. In the summer I wear shorts and it should still be possible to sit in them in a normal restaurant without getting dressed up. Because we were hungry, we sat outside at dangerously worn and chipped, very unkempt tables. I've been eating in outdoor restaurant areas for over 50 years, but unfortunately this one was one of the most unkempt. Menus were brought. No standard dishes like Bolognese or Aglio e Olio or Arrabiata? We first ordered drinks, among other things. A house wine came that was warm, not at a good temperature, but really unpleasantly warm. Since I wanted to drink it with dinner, I let it cool down (!). We then placed an order for carbonara and a pasta dish with tuna. After a while (more than 20, more like 30 minutes) the waiter came and said that the kitchen had asked if we really wanted the tuna... I then said, well, there are no standard dishes like aglio e olio. Oh, we can do that for you. So we reordered accordingly, and from that point on we waited around three quarters of an hour. The food was very freshly cooked, hot and tasty, lots of pasta, relatively little sauce... but at a good price (<10 euros each!). After about two hours we left full. Even today, full ashtrays have to be cleared away and replaced with fresh ones when a new guest sits down at the table! Please note! You don't leave the dirty dishes behind either! An absolute nogo disgusting even for smokers. I put ours far away on the ground, where it stayed... One point about the ambience due to the unkempt and uncomfortable outdoor area (ashtrays, rotten wood, chairs without cushions...), I sent a photo to a relative who said based on the furniture that it could also be in someone's garden, that's what it looks like . Well, I don't know anyone who looks so shabby. A schnapps or something similar on the house would also have been a nice gesture if you're waiting so long! The waiter who served us tried very hard to find something to our liking and was very friendly!

The location at Kennedyplatz is nice and you can sit comfortably in the outdoor area with a view. For an aperitif we ordered a mixed salad, tagliatelle with scampi and a pizza with Parma. The noodles were well cooked, decent portion, seasoned a bit bland. The pizza maker didn't have a good hand that evening, as neither the sauce nor the poor toppings could score points here. In total it is enough for 3 points, even if the waiting time for the food was very long. The price is reasonable, the service is super nice!

Staff were lovely and friendly, despite the language barrier. I visited this restaurant solo, I was very comfortable here and enjoyed my visit. Reasonably priced considering the location. The pizza was so huge I couldn’t finish it!

The location is right in the city center and really good. You can also sit outside very well if the weather permits. The food is solid and tastes good. I personally wouldn't say whether it was "original Italian" (of course I'm not an expert), but the carbonara, for example, was made with cream instead of just egg. But it still tasted good. The service is attentive and friendly. The best place to park is in the Centralgarage at Kennedyplatz. The underground car park is modern, clean and well lit.

We were very happy with the food and the service was first class.

Maccheroni salmone were tasty, but there was little salmon and the parmesan, which was in 4 large slices in the middle of the pasta, I would have preferred small shavings.

Good stop to have something to drink and eat after a walk along the Ruhr or a bike ride. It is very loud inside during busy periods.

I was there for the first time today and happily ordered “Maccheroni funghi e prosciutto Original Italian macaroni, mushrooms with ham in a tomato cream sauce”, because I love macaroni. But penne was served with a few mushrooms and a few pieces of ham. After I politely asked if I had made a mistake in the choice of pasta, the waitress said: “The boss says it’s macaroni!” and that was it, turned around and gone. Unfortunately the penne wasn't tasty, but I was hungry... No recommendation from me and I don't actually write reviews, I had to...

Everything is okay, food and service are good.

Coincidentally, we saw the menu cards hanging on the facade. Turned out to be next to the theater. Were pleasantly surprised by the furnishings. Friendly staff and very good service. Have an open kitchen where everything is freshly prepared. We had a delicious meal, pasta and pizza, a small gem in the center of Essen. Will definitely come back, perhaps next time we visit.

This is our pizzeria when we think of food in Essen. Big enough to almost always find a place. If there are more than 4 people, call ahead. Food is good and very sufficient

The food was great, I had the pizza Italiana. Very tasteful and I love thin pizzas! The service was very friendly. The only thing that was a bit annoying was the general noise level in the restaurant.

What a great place. We walked in for a meal and have enjoyed ourselves tremendously. It was good pizza in a real Italian wood oven. Desserts where great and the staff was super friendly and helpfull. Although very busy the waiting times were not very long. To bad we didn't stay longer in Essen because we would have gone back.

Had dinner at Leo Casa this evening. I ordered vegetarian pizza. This is what they served, it's not even a pizza. No tomato sauce, a pile of sautéed vegetables in the middle. Very disappointed. And their website says they serve traditional Italian dishes. This pizza (or whatever it was) will shock all of Italy. Please learn how to make pizza from your neighbor “Losteria”. Apart from that, the ambience and service were good.

This restaurant does not value disabled people. The paths to the toilet for old people who have to walk with a walker are too narrow and partially blocked. If you point out that it is very difficult to get to the toilet, you will be treated unfriendly by the staff. So according to the motto, I don't have time for something like that. If I had put the tables and chairs to the side, access wouldn't have been possible. Maybe the nice lady will come into a situation like that and she'll understand that too. In and of itself a very nice, cozy café restaurant in the city of Essen. The food is tasty, good cocktails, good value for money. The staff has always been attentive and friendly. On our last visit around 2 p.m. we were assigned a table in the large room. However, when we ordered coffee and cake, the waitress noticed that we would have had to sit at the small tables in the entrance area for coffee and cake (a lot of draft through the constantly opening door). We were served anyway. Unfortunately, even after a second order, we were asked every 20 minutes if we wanted to order something else. This is very annoying and disturbing. A table reservation in advance is recommended.

Very nice and beautiful place. The food is wonderful. We ordered salads, pizzas, pasta and steak, everything was very tasty. The waitress was not very polite. Overall service was slow and inadequate. We paid by card and the rate at which the euro was exchanged was 20% higher than the official rate. Another thing I didn't like was that there is the entrance to the theater and during the intermission about 100 people came out to literally smoke on our heads. I can't say that I would recommend the restaurant!

The ordered dish was very tasty. Unfortunately, we were cheated when paying - after paying and leaving the table, we realized that the bill was much too large, then we realized why the waiter, right after paying by card, crumpled the bill and put it in his pocket. We came back to explain the situation with the waiter - he ostentatiously threw 20 Euro on our table and left without a word of apology!! I've been to this place several times and it was always very nice, but after what happened to me today I don't feel like coming back here.

So let's start with unkempt tables outside, service ok until criticism came🤣. Food for us nothing special 08/15, pasta with chicken tomatoes for 13.90 euros without taste, just water sauce. Simply unloving, you can eat pizza but it didn't upset us either. Caesar salad for 10.90 euros is the biggest joke, iceberg lettuce, some grated cheese and 2 pieces of bread, including ready-made dressing. We say, no thanks, not again.

Four of us ate here and I was thrilled. The service was friendly, courteous and attentive. From the starter to the dessert everything was perfect. The price-performance ratio is very good for such a location. I wish there were more restaurants like this in Essen. Keep it up

Absolutely awesome food, great atmosphere and great service in the restaurant. However, the bar area with the service is a no-go. We were eating before the theater and wanted to have a drink during the break from the theater. Even though there was nothing going on, we were directed to the crowded theater bar with the words "My colleague will do that. If everyone comes to me now, it won't work at all." Sorry sister, that's outrageous behavior towards guests and the colleague who didn't know where to start because of all the stress. The whole thing left a bad aftertaste.

Totally delicious food, super friendly staff, whether in service or in the open kitchen. The food came quite quickly and the price-performance ratio is a clear advantage for the guests compared to other Italian restaurants! We were very, very satisfied today and will definitely come back! The bruscetta and the fish salad are highly recommended. The pizzas (at the neighboring tables) also looked very delicious.

We were there on March 7th. early in the evening at Leo's and ordered PIZZA (and a few small things in advance) from a friendly and very committed employee. So - we can't remember when we last Soooo delicious, perfect pizza. In Denmark they say: “Complement for Kökkerne!” (-unfortunately I can't speak Italian.-) 😇 All four different dishes were perfectly prepared! Recommendation PS: The subsequent cabaret performance in STRATMANN's next door made the evening complete.

After the Pro Wine fair in Dusseldorf, about 20 people were there for dinner, but it was a catastrophe. I wonder why this place still has customers..NEVER AGAIN..

The food was very tasty...I would go there again...but you have to look for the staff...they rarely come to the table and ask if you would like anything else...

I was here again after five years. Nothing appears to have changed on the map. The pizzas are still good. Only the service is a bit poor. Even at 10:00 in the evening when the shop is half empty, it can take a while before you are served.

The acoustics in the restaurant were really shocking. It was just loud and getting louder as everyone tried to understand each other better. The food wasn't worth the money. Small portions and not even good but overpriced. The service, on the other hand, was friendly and tried to make the best of it.

Chic restaurant, unfortunately a bit noisy in the dining room. Tables are quite close together... but that's the only point of criticism. Food very tasty, service on point.

On Thursdays, when the seniors' cinema is on in the nearby "Lichtburg", I recommend making a reservation at Leo's Casa. By the way, Leo's Casa is still always recommended.

Das Leos Casa ist ein zentral gelegenes Restaurant welches mit seinen einladenden Ambiente und einer schönen Ausstattung und Atmosphäre zum verweilen und Essen einlädt. Der Service des Teams ist vorzüglich, freundlich und schnell. Das Essen wird frisch zubereitet und schmeckt sehr gut. Die Preis Leistung ist mehr als gegeben und von Vegetarisches Menüs bis zu Pizza, pasta gibt es alles was die Italienische Küche zu bieten hat welche ihr Angebot mit saisonalen Menüs erweitert. Klare Empfehlung von mir 👍🏻

Leider hat das Essen extrem nachgelassen. Die Pizza war mal meine Lieblingspizza. Bei meinem letzten Besuch schmeckte sie allerdings wie eine Tiefkühlpizza. Nachdem ich die Kellnerin darauf angesprochen habe, passierte leider nichts. Auch der Lachs, den wir bestellt haben, war extrem verbrannt. Sehr sehr schade. Ich war ein großer Fan von Leo's Casa.

Wir waren im Advent an einem Freitag gegen 14.oo Uhr nach langer Zeit mal wieder bei Leos. Uns wurde ohne Wartezeit ein Tisch angeboten. Der Service war sehr freundlich und ging auch auf unsere Sonderwünsche ein. Das Lokal ist wie eh und je gemütlich. Insbesondere der offene Buchenholzofen trägt zur behaglichen Atmosphäre bei. Auch an der Qualität der Pizza hat sich nichts geändert. Wir werden sicher bald wiederkommen.

Leider heute über eine Stunde auf unsere zwei Pizzen gewartet, die dann trotz, mehrmaliger Nachfrage von uns beim Kellner und von diesem, dann beim Pizzabäcker, immer noch nicht im Ofen angekommen waren. Pizzabäcker war leider nicht an der Kundenzufriedenheit interessiert und sehr gechillt, was schön für ihn war, nicht aber für uns als Kunden. Als der dritte Tisch, der nach uns gekommen war, sein Essen schon aufgegessen hatte, haben wir uns entschlossen nicht mehr zu warten. Über eine Stunde, trotz mehrmaliger Nachfrage, war uns dann genug. Zu bemerken ist noch, dass das Lokal nicht voll war. Nicht empfehlenswert in Sachen Kundenservice.

Ich kann in jeder Kategorie nur 5 Sterne verteilen, das Restaurant ist total gemütlich, die Kellnerin war unglaublich zuvorkommend, das Essen war wirklich lecker und wurde schnell serviert. Wir haben uns rundum wohl gefühlt und werden gerne wieder dort essen gehen!

Nach wie vor nettes Personal. Jedoch halte ich eine Preiserhöhung im Vergleich zu September beim Bier von 25 % und beim Wein von rund 50 % für nicht angemessen!

Immer wieder ein schöne Gelegenheit gutes Essen zu einem vernünftigen Preis zu bekommen. Wir kommen gerne hier hin. Da die Karte übersichtlich und die Nudeln und Pizza sind auch lecker.😋 Obwohl wir nach der Weihnachtszeit hier zu Mittag sind, ist es nicht voll und wir haben ohne Reservierung einen Tisch bekommen. Klare Empfehlung.

Ich habe noch nie so gut bei einem Italiener gegessen!!!! Der Service war hervorragend und das Essen erste Klasse. Trotz dass wir nicht reserviert haben, konnten wir Platz nehmen und wurden unglaublich toll bedient! Wir hatten Vorspeise, Hauptgericht und Nachtisch. PERFEKT 👌 Und auch das Ambiente war ausgezeichnet 😊. Danke liebe Mitarbeiter für das tolle Abendessen und die tolle Atmosphäre.

Die Pizza ist lecker, die Pasta auch aber alles ein wenig eingedeutscht, dafür stimmt die Location. Die Küche und der Ofen sind offen und einsehbar, gibt dem ein gewisses Ambiente. Die Sitznische in denen bis zu 12 Personen passen ist super. Dann sitzt man näher zusammen und nicht in einer langen Reihe.

Tolles Restaurant mitten in Essen. Immer gut besucht, aus gutem Grund! Das Essen ist sehr lecker. Preis Leistung stimmt bei Getränken und Speisen. Das Servicepersonal ist sehr freundlich und aufmerksam.

Sehr schönes zentrales Restaurant. Essen toll und Preise gut. Leider sind die Tische sehr eng gestellt. Das ein zusätzlicher Gast für das Personal zum Problem wird, weil man keine Stühle hinzu stellen darf. Desweiteren konnte ein Rollator (Mutter 89) nicht mit an den Tisch genommen werden. Somit musste dieser (Carbon 600€) stetig im Auge behalten werden. Das war sehr störend. Schon beim Betreten des Casa, muss man sich entscheiden ob man "nur" etwas trinken oder auch essen möchte. Für nur Getränke gibt es Sitzgruppen wo man aber auch keinen 4. Stuhl hinzu stellen durfte. Positiv bewertet....es gibt ein Behinderten WC. Wenn aber schon kein Rollator bis zum Tisch genommen werden kann? Wie soll dann ein Rollstuhl oder Kinderwagen passen? Wir haben mit 4 Personen gegessen. Die 5. Person die hinzu kam musste stetig den Platz wechseln. Obwohl am späten Nachmittag noch reichlich Plätze frei waren, machte das Personal einen leicht unzufriedenen Eindruck. Wir hätten sicher noch mehr Umsatz gemacht, weil es ein Familientreffen war, sind dann aber nach wirklich gutem Essen und ein paar Getränken gegangen.

Leo´s Casa ist eine tolles, gemütliches Restaurant mit ausgezeichnetem Essen, in dem wir immer lange verbleiben. Besonders hervorzuheben ist das superfreundliche Personal, allen voran der nette, junge blonde Kellner und die beiden blonden Kellnerinnen mit Brille, immer zuvorkommend, fleißig, hilfsbereit und menschlich. Wir besuchen das Leo`s schon lange und freuen uns immer wieder hierzusein.

Wie gehen schon seit Jahren in dieses tolle Restaurant und waren immer sehr zufrieden aber am Samstag hatten wir leider einen unverschämten Kellner, der für unseren Tisch zuständig war. Wir hatten schon im Oktober den Tisch für den 2.12.23 18 Uhr bestellt. Man hat uns nicht darüber informiert, dass der Tisch nur für 2 Stunden gilt. Wie waren um 18 Uhr da, haben bestellt, das Essen kam kurz vor 19 Uhr, was überhaupt kein Problem für uns war, weil wirklich viel Betrieb war. Kurz vor 20 Uhr bat der Kellner uns zu bezahlen . Wir hatten unsere Getränke noch nicht mal leer getrunken. Der Kellner wurde ungeduldig und meinte, die nächsten Gäste würden schon warten und wir sollten an die Theke gehen. Wir bezahlten und gingen. Es wäre kein Problem gewesen, hätten wir dieses vorher gewusst, dann hätte man sich darauf einstellen können aber so unverschämt abgefertigt zu werden ist unglaublich. Das Essen war sehr lecker.

Das ist absolut unser Lieblingsrestaurant. Man fühlt sich zu Hause und könnte stundenlang dort verbringen.

Wir kommen schon seit 10 Jahren immer in der Vorweihnachtszeit in dieses Lokal . Zum ersten Mal sind wir total unzufrieden mit der Bedienung. Uns wurde noch nie gesagt das wir in der Vorweihnachtszeit nur 2 Stunden zum Essen haben. Wir hatten noch nicht einmal unsere Getränke getrunken. Ich musste noch zur Toilette wo ich 20 Min warten musste.. Wir wurden aufgefordert das dir das Lokal verlassen sollen unfassbar

Heute am Weihnachtsmarkt vor Ort gewesen. Wollten erstmal orientieren wurde aber ziemlich unfreundlich bzw gar nicht empfangen.. als meine sichtlich schwangere Partnerin noch kurz das WC aufsuchen wollte wurde die untersagt. Leider schon aufgrund dieses Service für einen Abend zu zweit gänzlich uninteressant und nicht geeignet. Schade dass es immer noch Orts gibt wo auf schwangere keine Rücksicht genommen wird.

Wir kamen aufgrund des Wetters früher, das war kein Problem. Zuvorkommende Bedienung und gutes Essen. Leider konnte man die Tische nicht so zusammenstellen, dass wir alle an einen Tisch gepasst haben, aber alles in allem waren wir sehr zufrieden und können das Restaurant für Geschäftsessen empfehlen.

Als Stammkunden waren wir heute das erste Mal enttäuscht. Anderer Pizzateig, laberig und weniger weniger belegt als wir es noch im Sommer erlebt haben. Der Lachs war ein Ministückchen und teilweise schwarz. Lecker geht anders.

Soweit war alles sehr gut. Service super. Die Pizza Crudo war sehr sehr lecker. Total empfehlenswert. Die Carbonara war so lala. Nicht mein Fall. Hab schon bessere gegessen. Aber ist Geschmacksache. Ambiente sehr gemütlich und angenehm. Im großen und ganzen kann man es sich geben. Preis Leistungsverhältnis stimmt total.
