L'Osteria in Darmstadt

We visited L'Osteria Darmstadt for the first time on Saturday evening and thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was excellent, the atmosphere lovely, and the service friendly – ​​what more could you ask for? We had reserved a table, so there was no wait. We'll definitely be back.

We had made a reservation for 6:30 pm for 4 people, but at the entrance we were immediately told that the waiting time for a pizza would be one hour, as they were understaffed.

The food is good, but the pizza doesn't fit on the plate. Unfortunately, the room is far too loud, making conversation almost impossible.

It wasn't anything special for us!!!

Lively atmosphere. Service and food are very good. No long wait for drinks and food. Well suited for kids.

I had a pizza, half with mushrooms and onions and the other half with spinach and egg, and a small side salad. Very tasty. The service was very friendly. Unfortunately, it was a bit too noisy in the dining area; the music and conversations were quite loud. I'd gladly come back and try a pasta dish next time.

First of all: The pizza is absolutely delicious and huge. But: We had reserved a table for 6 pm on Saturday. Despite this, we found ourselves in a long queue outside, as everyone else had also made reservations. Everyone had to wait until a table became available. The reservation time slot is for 1.5 hours. It wasn't until 6:25 pm that we could order. Then we waited until 7:35 pm for our food, and it only arrived because our server insisted. The kitchen was completely overwhelmed with dine-in, takeout, and delivery orders. Since we had to be at Mollerhaus by 8 pm, we quickly wolfed down two slices of pizza and packed up the rest. The situation was similar at the neighboring tables, and the queue at the door was only being cleared briefly at a time.

A good pizzeria for an evening with friends, lots of people, delicious food

I have been a regular at this osteria for years and have generally appreciated the atmosphere and many of the dishes. Unfortunately, I have repeatedly found that the preparation of simple dishes – especially the chicken breast on salad – was inadequate: the meat was often badly burnt, bitter, and dry. I silently accepted this many times and only politely returned it once. The response was appropriate, and the dish was then prepared perfectly – which shows that it is indeed possible to deliver quality. On my visit today, I wanted to be proactive and politely asked in advance if they would please pay attention to the cooking this time. Instead of understanding, however, I received an evasive, almost confrontational attitude from the server – including the suggestion that I would not come back to this restaurant in the future if the quality was not satisfactory, even though she agreed with me about the burnt chicken. I found this disrespectful and unprofessional. My criticism was not intended to embarrass anyone, but rather to address a recurring weakness in the service. The fact that I was then portrayed as a "problem customer," even though I remained objective and polite, deeply irritates me. I have great understanding for the stress in the restaurant industry. What I cannot understand, however, is the lack of willingness to sustainably improve simple processes (like not burning meat or adding herbs to a pizza). It's not about gourmet cuisine, but about care and respect—also towards the product and the paying customer. An attitude where criticism is seen as a disruption rather than an opportunity backfires in every business—sooner or later. Unless, of course, the quality of perception has already deteriorated so much that no one notices that something is wrong anymore. I then got up and left because I don't want to support a system that charges full price for defective goods—and perceives as disruptive those who strive to improve things instead of boycotting them.

Super licks as you know it there

Dear L'Osteria Team, On October 25, 2025, at around 1:00 PM, my girlfriend and I were at the bar in your restaurant. Unfortunately, we had a very unpleasant experience with the bartender. He served us very rudely, and we encountered difficulties paying with our debit card. We were also automatically charged a €3 tip, even though we hadn't confirmed or entered it. We would like to ask you to look into this incident. We greatly appreciate L'Osteria and would like to continue to be your guests in the future. Sincerely

We ate at L'Osteria in Darmstadt yesterday, and unfortunately, our visit was very disappointing. Right from the start, we had to wait an unusually long time before we could even order – our waiter spent over 15 minutes chatting with another family while we sat at the table, trying to get his attention. The biggest shock, however, came at the end of the evening: We saw several mice crawling around on the floor. This was completely unacceptable to us and a clear sign that hygiene was not good. The restrooms were reasonably clean, but when we looked into the kitchen from the window after dinner, we noticed that there was quite a lot of trash on the floor – not a pretty sight. On the positive side, we would like to mention that the food itself was very tasty and fresh. However, the negative impressions clearly outweigh the positive. A restaurant should, first and foremost, be clean and hygienic – and unfortunately, that was not the case here. We sincerely hope that management takes this feedback seriously and quickly corrects the deficiencies.

A large restaurant close to the city center and the Darmstadt State Theater. Excellent pizzas with oversized diameters. You'd hardly be able to finish it all alone.

The waitress, Theresa, was incredibly friendly and always present. My pizza was very good and arrived surprisingly quickly. It was still fresh from the oven. The toppings were very fresh.

Huge and, above all, super-delicious pizzas in a great setting and very centrally located in Darmstadt. Our server, Theresa, was super sweet and very accommodating and gave us a wonderful evening. Highly recommended!

Yes, unfortunately, as is so often the case, it all depends on the individual. I've been here quite a few times now. There are 2-3 ladies in the service, and they're TOP! Attentive, fast, friendly,... Let's leave the rest as it is. Sometimes you sit there for 30 minutes without a drink, in a restaurant that's really not full. (Like today, but unfortunately the ladies mentioned weren't there.) No one looks at you; they just stare past the person, just don't look at them. Unfortunately, the service staff are out of control. They don't even notice it themselves, or, what you get is, they don't care. I've been here a few times in the last 5 weeks. As I said, there are a few really great exceptions, but generally, you have to put up with the unfriendliness in this place. If you can live with that, then everything's fine.

It was my birthday and I was surprised that the house had a surprise (free dessert). I'm especially grateful for the super friendly service. It was a wonderful evening. Thank you!

The price/performance ratio is definitely right here. We felt very comfortable, the food came super quickly, and it was delicious.

We were there with a group of 10 people. The service was initially great until the place filled up and the waitresses became very busy. The children got their food early (excellent and tasty too!). Our food arrived later and was unfortunately not of the highest quality. Two of the four pizzas were black in places (we had to cut them off). The pasta with crayfish tails didn't contain crayfish tails; it was shrimp, which didn't taste good. A glance at the menu didn't reveal any changes. Unfortunately, no one asked if everything was okay; otherwise, we would have complained. We were only able to raise the issue when paying, which was a shame. The server apologized but didn't follow up or provide any further information. Overall, both quality and quantity have declined.

We visited on October 3rd with six people plus our Labrador. Delicious food and first-class service in a pleasant atmosphere. Music played at a pleasant volume. Only the background noise when it's busy is a bit annoying. We'd love to come back. PS: The dog was the first to be served water. THANK YOU

Food is nice, the pizzas are huge and enough for two. Service was not attentive and brought the main courses already while we still had half of our appetizers in front of us. The atmosphere is super noisy, background music, kitchen noise and collective chatter in an industrial styled hall make it almost impossible to have a conversation when sitting opposite each other. Prices are relatively high, but you can take the leftovers with you without extra charge. Would come here for food again, but not for a get-together.

We waited over an hour for our food (one pizza, one pasta); it wasn't particularly busy. We politely asked several times when our food would be coming. Our waitress was friendly, but then a colleague joined us who was absolutely rude. We left without eating. On the upside, our drinks and appetizer were on the house. P.S.: If you need to use the restroom, you should definitely bring a flashlight.

Even though the food was delicious, we found the service disastrous. After waiting 10 minutes for a table (the place was empty), we were not only greeted with an extremely unfriendly welcome, but also had to wait 20 minutes to pay, even though the place was almost empty. Unfortunately, it was very disappointing on this day.

It's a shame the restaurant is so run down, unfortunately from a hygiene point of view.

We were there on a Saturday at 4:00 p.m. The food was delicious; we had pizza and pasta. I have to deduct half a star for the service. We had a reservation, but it seemed like the reservation wasn't in the system. The two bottles of water that were included in the reservation weren't on the table. Generally, we felt that a reservation wasn't necessary at this time of day. The ambiance is nice, but the individual chairs could be more comfortable.

Pizza with a guaranteed mouse: We were at L'Osteria in Darmstadt at 9 p.m. Unfortunately, we were completely ignored for 20 minutes, so we had to get the menus ourselves from inside. Only then did a waiter come and tell us we were no longer allowed to eat outside and would have to go inside. Inside, the place looked very dirty: tables hadn't been cleared or cleaned, used cutlery was lying on the floor, and food scraps hadn't been removed. Despite at least eight employees, including the manager, no one seemed to be making an effort to maintain cleanliness. The pizza itself tasted good, but it was placed directly on the dirty table without a mat. Later, while we were waiting for the bill, a mouse walked right between our feet. After we reported it, the waiter simply offered to put the drinks on the house – we'd have to speak to the manager about anything else. The manager's reaction was completely inappropriate: Despite seeing the mouse several times, he declared it a "city problem" and not his responsibility, and that he knew about the mice. He showed no understanding for the obvious hygiene deficiencies. The discussion ended loudly with the words: "Just leave and never come back." Conclusion: We received no apology or understanding. Given such hygiene conditions and lack of hospitality, another visit is out of the question for us.

Unfortunately, we had a very negative experience during our visit to L'Osteria in Darmstadt. Inside (near the kitchen), we repeatedly observed mice crawling under benches, chairs, and tables. They were searching for food scraps on the floor and also eating them. It was clearly visible that there were numerous food scraps on the floor, which exacerbated the problem. After speaking to the waiter or manager, we were simply told that mice were "common" and that it wasn't a problem if they were running around the restaurant. This is absolutely unacceptable to us, as hygiene and cleanliness should be a top priority in a restaurant. Furthermore, the service was very disappointing overall. We had to wait over 30 minutes before we even received a menu. The pizza we ordered didn't match the description on the menu: ingredients were missing, and we also had to wait a long time for the food to finally be served. Overall, the visit was unacceptable both in terms of hygiene and service. We therefore cannot recommend the restaurant at all.

We sat outside, so I have no idea about the decor. It was delicious, as always. The garlic and chili oil were amazing. It's a shame there's no such place in Fulda.

Quite expensive, but the taste is still decent. The pizza has more dough than anything else. But at least this way, you can increase the margin on large pizzas. What's completely unacceptable are the tip suggestions for card payments. They start(!) at 10 percent. If you don't want to give any or less, you have to awkwardly type on the terminal. For me, that's the reason I won't go there again. For €16 pizzas, I'd assume the staff is paid well enough.

Basically everything was fine, but unfortunately, the management was complete. Bright sunshine, Sunday, 3:30 p.m.: Pizza dough not ready until 5 p.m., which is half the menu. All tables outside are open, but no service is being provided due to a lack of staff.

I had the aglio e olio there, a simple but very tasty dish, but these were inedible for my taste. They seemed to have never seen salt or garlic before, but they were extremely spicy; for me, they were simply inedible. Texturally, they were just plain cooked pasta with a few drops of oil sprinkled over it. Unfortunately, I also have some complaints about the service, as we had to wait an hour and 30 minutes for our rather disappointing meal. The ambiance was nothing special, just a bit below average.
