Long March Canteen in Berlin

Great restaurant with very good food. We had the summer menu, which tasted excellent. However, what really soured our visit was the request to add a 10%, 15%, or 20% tip when paying. I like to tip, but the amount should be left up to the guest. I find this very unpleasant and leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Fortunately, there are still restaurateurs who leave the tips up to the guests.

We had a very pleasant evening at the Long March Canteen. Although several set menus are offered, we ordered a la carte. The selection is extensive, the dishes are professionally and quickly prepared, and taste very good. The wine list offers a wide selection. It didn't feel truly authentic Chinese to me, but the quality was undeniably high, and we enjoyed the food immensely.

This is one of the gems outside Markthalle Neun. The food was very tasty — except for the edamame, which wasn’t great at all— but everything else we tried was good. The place is quite popular -strangely-, and that’s definitely reflected in the higher prices.

Excellent food, with a selection of dim sum and dumplings. The menus are perfect for first-timers. They serve a reinterpreted Cantonese cuisine with a touch of fusion, not the China Express on the corner 😀 The service was attentive and professional, and everything ran smoothly. Bottom line: we had a wonderful time, and everything was just perfect 😉

The Long March Canteen remains a very good restaurant with top-notch service. It's always worth going there; the service is prompt, always friendly, and courteous. The quality of the food is consistently good, but even here, you sometimes wonder why the prices are so high. 4/5

Fantastic! Simply a delight! The cold dim sum, warm dim sum, and dessert were simply outstanding. Super delicious!

If you're looking for casual fine dining, then this is the place for you. The dishes seem simple, but are incredibly well-made – the broccoli, for example, is some of the best I've ever eaten. Apart from that, the ambiance is a good mix of modern, creative, and very pleasant. In summary, this is the place to go if you want something unusual, but without a lot of frills – just good food!

€420 for a street food feel – unfortunately disappointing The concept seems to focus on fine dining in a sharing style, but the price is in the upper range – we paid €420 including two bottles of wine. The food was unfortunately underwhelming. Only a few appetizers, such as the cilantro salad or the tuna sashimi, were fresh and interesting in taste. Many other dishes seemed very pared-down or one-dimensional in flavor, and some were also poorly presented. The peanut noodles were watery, slightly bitter, with zucchini – also visually unappealing. The shrimp with mayo smelled very strong and were barely edible – it had more of a street food feel, but without the charm. Another point: The main courses were served at significantly different times – because two people ordered vegetarian dishes and two ordered meat, only part of the group had food on the table at any one time. This unfortunately interrupted the communal dining experience. The service was positive: friendly, attentive, and well-organized. The Pinot Noir from Franz Keller was also a delightful discovery—elegant and fitting the theme of the evening. Overall, the experience was disappointing for us. The value for money isn't right. Those who place particular value on finely balanced dishes and thoughtful compositions probably won't find what they're looking for here. However, those looking for a stylish ambiance with good service could still have a pleasant evening—just be aware of what you're getting into.

Very good for people who like special food

Decent place, good food , great service! I see it as Asian classics combined with new vision fusion cuisine which reflects well in Berlin. Summer menu is more than enough for the dinner, make sure to come hungry😁 my personal favorites are tuna sashimi with beetroot and wasabi and ice cream with mango mouse which’s sourness is excellent!

Really good Asian fusion cuisine! The restaurant has an urban Berlin style. The staff is very friendly and highly recommended! I just discovered photos from a previous visit. I'd almost forgotten how good it was and I definitely have to eat here again soon!

Modern, dark interior with high ceilings, cafeteria-style banquettes, and red neon accents; not kitschy at all. What can I say except - it's amazing. Everything: food, space, drinks!

The summer menu was very good and plentiful. Unfortunately, due to a lack of staff, the food was left out without even a chance to ask. The service was friendly, but at that price, I expected more attentiveness. The cloakroom attendant had to laboriously gather our things afterward. Still, a good evening with some reservations.

Food was ok at best. Dumplings were awful! Both the dough, the execution and the filling. The broccoli dish was the best out of the nine I tried. Service was great. Would not go there again.

Outstanding cuisine! If you're ever in Berlin, you have to come here. I recommend getting a set menu so you can try everything.

We got the spring menu and we liked all the entries except 2, so I would definitely recommend to try the menus if it’s your first time and you are not sure what to take. Food is very tasty, and not too spicy (but maybe a bit too much wasabi), the starters and the ribs were fantastic!!Considering the price (90€/person, menu + drinks), I would have expected a bit more in terms of ambience and service (tables are very close to each other and the waiters don’t describe the plates when they bring them, they only tell you the menu’s title). All things considered a very good experience we would do again.

We celebrated my girlfriend's birthday at the Long March Canteen, and it was simply perfect! From the very first moment, we felt welcome. The service was attentive, friendly, and professional. The food was a true experience: creative, authentic, and incredibly delicious. The wine selection was also excellent and complemented the menu wonderfully. A huge thank you to the entire team for this wonderful evening! We will definitely be back.

On all levels: Good, but not very good. The service was friendly. They were also very engaging and flexible. Due to difficulties getting there, we had to delay our arrival time twice. I also left my cell phone behind. They were very helpful in retrieving it. However, the warmth and interest in the guests was somewhat lacking to give it a full 5 stars. The location was similar. We had a pleasant outdoor seating area, but nothing stood out. The food was good overall. Some dishes, like the eggplant and broccoli, stood out positively. Others, like the dumplings and the cold dim sum, were rather weak. I had a good evening and would definitely go back.

We had reserved a table and were immediately warmly welcomed. The ambiance in the restaurant is beautiful – stylish, inviting, and with a pleasant atmosphere. The noise level was just right: lively, but not too loud. The service was extremely friendly, attentive, and competent – ​​you can tell they're professionals at work here. The menu offers an impressive selection of fresh and lovingly prepared dishes with great flavors. I particularly recommend the tuna, the fried eggplant, and the Brandenburg carp – all excellently prepared! The vegetable dumplings were a small disappointment: unfortunately, they were a bit bland in flavor, and the texture could have been softer. Nevertheless, the positive impression clearly outweighs the negative. Overall, a great restaurant that I can definitely recommend – we'd be happy to come back!

After more than 10 years, we visited the Long March Canteen again. It was just as good as last time. It's worth ordering the set menu because you can really sample all the delicious dishes in small portions. The service is very friendly and competent. The restaurant is truly a culinary delight.

A very special thank you goes to Franz, who looked after us exceptionally well throughout the evening. He was always attentive and friendly without being intrusive - just perfect! The food was an absolute highlight - every dish was a work of art, both in terms of taste and appearance. Out of a possible 10 points, I definitely give it 11! We are already looking forward to our next visit. Thank you for this unforgettable experience!

A classic in Berlin, very good dim sum. Unfortunately, the dining room is very noisy due to its construction, so the noise level is quite high. But the food and service were very good. I'd go back.

We had the deluxe menu, which lived up to its name. Only the two desserts could be improved. The buns were too doughy, the filling too small. The texture of the baked bananas could be a bit firmer. Good wine selection with moderate prices. The service was perfect; I would especially like to highlight "Fis," who contributed to our great enjoyment of our stay. I can fully appreciate why this restaurant has been recommended by the Michelin Guide since 2019. I would definitely recommend it.

Rather disappointing experience. Food was okay but nothing really special, the pace of the food was way too fast for us, and dishes were arriving when we were still eating the previous ones. The price is adjusted to the expectations but not to the reality. I do not understand the Michelin star, I’d not even give them a mention honestly. The cocktails were really good and price goes according to the quality and the place.

One of my favorite restaurants in Berlin. Always worth a visit! I especially recommend the warm eggplant as a starter and any kind of dumplings. The baked banana or the dumplings for dessert are amazing.

If you want to have a different fine dine one evening, I recommend it. I have eaten such delicious hot food in very few places. The tasting menus they serve are very nice, they can accompany your evening😌

The space is really cool looking, but the food was uneven . (we had the dim sum menu). The initial dishes (sashimi, beef, etc.) were very good, but the next round of plates was underwhelming--the edamame were just that, the sweet potatoes seemed underroasted and undergarnished, the shrimp/egg/eel dish was tasty but seemed overcooked, the skewers were bland and needed more. The final plates were good and all dumplings. The fillings were excellent, but the wrappings were too thick and doughy (which seems to be a trend in Chinese restaurants lately). The sorbet for dessert was excellent and wine list was good. The service was adequate. We are glad we went, but would likely not come back.

Wahrscheinlich das beste Restaurant mit chinesischem Essen in Deutschland. Ein unfassbar cooler Laden. Das Essen: Ein Traum. Dumplings, Wantan, Fleisch, Gemüse, Tiger Beer, tolle Weine, Cocktails. Dazu ein mega Service. Hätte Mao sehr gefallen. Dafür wäre er sicher marschiert. Wenn Berlin, marschiere ich da wieder hin.

Very varied, many vegan and not too meat-heavy components in the various menus. Asian-modern style and very tasty. The service is discreet and still there if something is missing. It's not exactly cheap, but for your money you get sophisticated and taste-pleasing spices. A visit has always been worth it so far.

The food was very very very tasty But the dessert was disappointing, we expected to get a much more sophisticated one and we got instead fried banana and dry buns filled with chocolate.

You leave this restaurant completely satisfied. The menus are amazing, simply fingerlicking good. The drinks, especially the wines, are great. Then a quick and friendly service completes the experience. The price for the delicious food is justified. It was so good that I forgot to take photos.

! PLEASE READ TO THE END! I think we need to talk about it... We had a really nice evening, with good food and a delicious drink that knocked us ALL out of our seats (even the hard-drinking ones). The alcohol was “hidden” so well in the cocktail that we quickly woke up, one of them was enough and from now on only water! After a 3-hour stay, we paid and wanted to end our evening celebrating in a club, but when we left the restaurant the owner asked us why we had tipped “so little” on a 4-figure bill, which was just 4% tip. To be honest, we were shocked and the evening was almost over if we hadn't gotten emotional two hours later. This question almost ruined our day (with a special occasion - which the owner knew) and overshadowed everything we had experienced up to that point. I don't know what kind of society we live in now that people get blamed for "gifted" money... I'm still shocked and for this reason I will NOT visit this restaurant again, even though I thought the food was great and already had plans with whom I would go there, but for me that has absolutely nothing to do with "service of excellence"! Really a shame...

Jedes Gericht war ein Genuss – abwechslungsreich, raffiniert und voller Geschmack! Besonders beeindruckt hat uns die Qualität und Vielfalt der Speisen. Die Atmosphäre im Restaurant passt perfekt zum chinesischen Essen – stilvoll, modern und mit einem Hauch von Streetfood-Flair. Ein kleiner Wermutstropfen ist die Lautstärke, denn es geht hier lebhaft zu. Dennoch haben wir den Abend sehr genossen und kommen auf jeden Fall gerne wieder! Wer authentische und kreative Dim Sum liebt, ist hier genau richtig. Klare Empfehlung!

Notting wrong and nothing exceptional. It was a pleasant meal and service, yet given the price it lacked a sparkle, something inspirational or a personal touch. And a Chinese restaurant without green or black tea? Large selection of small dishes. Half of the menus are for over two people. Not clear why other than maybe it is to attract groups and make money. The food (winter menu (feb 2025) had nice flavour, abundant with most dishes with meat. It lacked refinement (prawns overpowered by sauce) or a sparkle (nice fused flavours yet without a highlight, something extra) The Argentinian beef was the positive exception. Service was quick and attentive and didn’t feel personal. Maybe when you order lots of wine, enter as a chatty group or ask many questions it would be different. So it felt like an efficient eatery with good food yet without a personal sparkle both in layout (simple black benches mostly), food (not really wow) or service (no real interaction like mentioning the wardrobe or why tea isn’t available). It gave the impression of an uninspirational pricey concept (so why the Michelin bib-gourmand?) with room for improvement yet happy to serve the larger crowd. Maybe thats why the last page of the menu refers to merchandise.

Ordered the tasting menu for 2 people, which contains over 12 dishes, portions are quite generous for so many dishes, and at the end was full. Very good and friendly service, high-quality ingredients and cocktails are also very good. One of the best Asian restaurants in Berlin, good value for money, ranked bib gourmand on michelin guide.

Very unusual restaurant (positive!) Absolutely inconspicuous from the outside, no advertising or other indications of the restaurant. We stood 5 meters in front of it and only found the entrance (see photo) after asking passers-by ;-) The menu is quite extensive but, as described in other reviews, is very menu-oriented. Service and food were excellent! The price/performance ratio is absolutely OK. I ordered 2 different fried dumplings, a. 4 pieces, and that was actually more than enough! Absolute highlight: Dessert > White Wedding — white chocolate parfait - fresh passion fruit sauce - sea salt flakes That was an absolute culinary experience. The restaurant deserves its awards!!!

A hidden gem in Kreuzberg. The restaurant impresses with a wide selection of dim sum and corresponding menu compositions. In addition to the nice service, the reception and cloakroom were very friendly. The drinks from beer to lemonade to cocktails were also good.

Good ambience - the decor is simple and dark, so the focus is entirely on the food. The staff is friendly and accommodating, pays attention to details and always keeps the table clean. We tried the vegan menu - a really great concept, uniquely tailored and beautifully presented. We particularly recommend the cucumber strips with their great consistency and taste, as well as the traditional eggplant and power broccoli. The vegan desserts are also a highlight: the coconut sorbet is one of the best I've ever tasted, and The Real Thing - baked bananas Tanghulu style - rounded off the experience perfectly. Highly recommended!

The food is good, nothing to complain about. But authentic Chinese is different. The concept with the menus is clever for the operator, but not very creative. It's also strange that most menus are only available for 3 people. Serving two dumplings instead of three shouldn't be too much of a challenge. What really stands out is the service! Fis was served at our table. I give him the title “Waiter of the Decade.” He more than deserves it. He does service with passion. I have never experienced anything like this before. He noticed that I had put ice cubes from the water glass into my wine (yes, I do that), and Fis notices this when I'm serving it and, without any hint from me, brings a cup of ice cubes to the next glass of wine without being asked. Even in a star restaurant I wouldn't have expected so much care. Really terrific. Fis, you are my gastro hero. You flashed me. THANKS

As always, value for money is hard to beat in Berlin! Pork ribs and duck are a highlight!

A Mostly Excellent Experience, Let Down by a Few Details Our group of four enjoyed the De Luxe menu, which featured creative and well-executed dishes. The dumplings were a particular highlight—perfectly juicy with an ideal dough consistency. The spare ribs and mini spring rolls with chestnut sauce were also delicious. However, a couple of elements could have been better. The Peking duck course was overwhelmed by an overly salty hoisin sauce, and the carpaccio seemed to be missing something. Additionally, the seating was quite uncomfortable, with no back support—perhaps a minor issue, but worth mentioning. Service was generally fine, though nothing exceptional. Unfortunately, the evening ended on a slightly disappointing note when the tip amount was questioned which was 9% as decided by our host. This felt unnecessary and left a negative final impression on an otherwise enjoyable meal.

Amazing experience at Long March Canteen. Every single dish was delicious and flavourful, and we even got to try to new things (to us), like the thousand year-old egg, or duck dumplings. I would go back and somehow would love to order everything again, but also try a bunch of other dishes. I don’t really understand the negative reviews - food was perfect, service was amazing. This is not a traditional Chinese or Cantonese restaurant, but highlights some incredible flavours. It’s a little expensive (about 45€ worth of food per person), but it was worth it for the experience and quantities. We ordered à-la-carte.

Conclusion of one evening: All in all mixed / average and mostly underwhelming. Eat: The dumplings are really good (we had steamed lamb and orange prawn), I would describe these as a signature, as was the scallop, which was exceptionally good. The remaining dishes (duck with hoisin, octopus salad, pork ribs) were simply boring, lacking umami and sophistication. Drinks: It's just a shame - the open wines don't match the price, the yuzu spritz is uninspired and after two disappointments you don't have the courage to try something third. Ambience & Service: The ambience is bustling, a bit loud and somehow beautiful. Theoretically, it invites you to spend an evening with good drinks (see above). The service is nice and unobtrusive. All in all, I only understand the Michelin Guide recommendation when it comes to the dumplings, everything else is below average and not outstanding. Unfortunately, it was actually an evening that I won't remember and that I wouldn't necessarily recommend in a city that has so much more to offer.

I recently had the opportunity to revisit Long March Canteen. I've found that you can visit and eat there again and again and you won't get bored. So I'm already planning my next visit :-D. The food is very varied and special. I felt like eating the same thing as last time but I also wanted to try other dishes and each dish was a revelation in itself, an unforgettable experience. The restaurant offers a unique blend of traditional Asian cuisine with modern touches. We felt comfortable there and our palate is very grateful for this experience. The service was excellent. The staff was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. The wine list is extremely good and the staff is very trained and always ready to make recommendations and respond to special requests. The menus are very generous, so you go home very full. The cocktails are refreshing and delicious. I can't wait to come back and try more dishes! It's absolutely special! The price range corresponds to the quality. Definitely five stars!

We celebrated there with 35 people. The food was so-so, too few items on the plates. For example, there were 6 scallops for a table of 15 people. We left around €10k. At the end we were forced to take our Secret Santa wrapping paper home with us.

Great and tasty courses of food.

Fuimos ayer a nuestra cena de Navidad con un equipo pequeño y tengo que decir que tenía expectativas muy altas ya que escuchamos que tienen una estrella Michelin que resultó ser incorrecta o al menos no pudimos averiguarlo con seguridad. Teniendo esto en cuenta, me encantaron las diferentes opciones de menú para todo el mundo algo allí y optamos por la opción vegana que puedo recomendar. Muchos platos diferentes, muy agradables presentados con combinaciones de alimentos interesantes. En mi opinión podrían haber añadido algunas opciones más a la sección de postres como me pareció, después de recibir muchos platos diferentes para el entrante y principal un poco “decepcionado” con solo un pequeño postre. El menú de bebidas era agradable y el personal muy amable. La comida llegó muy rápido y era de buena calidad.

No matter whether traditional classics or special specialties, everything is served here with attention to detail. The cozy atmosphere and attentive service make every visit a pleasure.

In short, expect Bib Gourmand-level pricing, for passably good food; a low-four star for me. It's hard to not be at least a little critical when the restaurant has some acclaim, but my party and I expected a bit more out of Long March Canteen. Asian food may be hard to come by in some parts of Berlin, but I consider this to be more Asian-inspired fare due to its fusion elements. Sharing is encouraged, but I definitely left wanting a bit more on the plate. The plating and service was excellent and I can tell that a lot of effort was gone into the construction of the dishes and subtle flavors but as opposed to elevating the original dishes the food had been based upon, we felt like it lacked some of the deep and rich flavors we come to expect with this type of Asian food.

Excellent food and atmosphere. It's ironic that the food is so good and plentiful in a restaurant that celebrates Mao, the Red Army, and the rise is the Chinese Communist Party. Quirky.

The atmosphere was cozy, but the vegan menu is not worth the price. Service was mediocre, no introduction, recommendations to any food. We felt rushed to eat even though it was a slow night. Server was rude after not receiving a good tip.

Incredibly delicious and the menus are highly recommended! My companion has a nut allergy and it was dealt with without any problems and adjusted accordingly. It will be very crowded - definitely make a reservation. You can't be sensitive to volume. Cost - expensive, but understandable and not excessive.

Really a great menu, I've been there twice now. Be sure to try a cocktail beforehand, great house martini and mezcalita. The ambience and food are worth the price. Trust your Peter!

Really great food and more than enough if you pick one of the tasting menus. Not the best option for a romantic dinner as there are many shared tables. The service was not the best, taking a lot of time to order with a very crowded place, but overall totally worth it for the price. Edit: Service was kind, fun and attentive this time.

Dîner presque parfait jusqu’à ce que le serveur dise, « vous ne pouvez pas laisser plus de pourboire ? Ah Français, on a l’habitude… » Tout en rigolant avec le personnel, est-ce une manière de dire les choses ? Chacun fait au mieux, tout le monde ne peut pas laisser la moitié de la note, honteux pour un restaurant soit disant remarqué par le guide Michelin, mauvaise habitude et attitude présomptueuse, il suffit de lire les commentaires précédents, bonne appétit, bonne soirée et surtout bonne chance à vous.

Absolute recommendation: the ribs! But everything we ordered (scallops, beef dumplings, prawn dumplings, duck to roll yourself) was incredibly tasty. The service was charming and attentive. Only one star deducted for the ambience, as we had to share a long table with other guests, which meant that my companion got the contents of an overturned glass from the other guests.

Este lugar está decorado de manera interesante y bastante único. La comida es un poco fusión del nuevo estilo chino, me parece un poco dulce para un plato chino, pero en general bastante agradable.

Wir waren das erste Mal in der Long March canteen und wurden nicht enttäuscht. Ein Abend voller kleiner, kulinarische Überraschung. Immer wieder kleine ausgewogene Gerichte, ein sehr netter, aufmerksamer Service. Wir saßen neben der Tür nur etwas blöd und an diesem ersten kühleren Herbsttag ziemlich zugig. Wir kommen jedenfalls gerne wieder und würden bei der nächsten Reservierung auf den Sitzplatz achten. Sehr lockere Atmosphäre. Also Leute, lasst Jeans und Pulli an und das Sakko zu Hause 😉.
