LEOPOLD Restaurant im Weingut von Winning in Deidesheim

It started with a reservation made three weeks in advance. The table was booked for 5:00 PM. Only through a chance phone call did we find out that we couldn't get the table until 1.5 hours later. Had we not called by chance, we would have just been standing around from 5:00 PM onwards. The server at our table was very friendly, but the kitchen seems to have a problem with counting. Instead of nine meals, only eight arrived. The ninth meal had been forgotten in the kitchen. Three wines were offered with the meal, which we tried. I think that at these prices, the service should be perfect.

We were privileged to experience a very special evening in the ballroom of the von Winning Winery with the Association of German Dental Hygienists (VDDH) as part of our anniversary event with around 50 participants, and our expectations were exceeded in every way! We visited the venue a year ago to get a firsthand look at the venue. Unfortunately, we weren't able to visit the ballroom at the time because a wedding was taking place. We relied on the photos and weren't disappointed: a beautiful hall! We began the evening with an exclusive wine cellar tour, including a tasting of six wines. The passion and expertise with which the wines were presented thrilled us and gave us a wonderful insight into the philosophy of the house. The subsequent three-course meal in the manor villa upstairs, featuring food from the LEOPOLD Restaurant, was a culinary experience. The service was consistently attentive, professional, and warm. A big thank you to the entire team at the Leopold Restaurant and the von Winning Winery! You gave us an evening we'll never forget: festive, enjoyable, and with great attention to detail. We can wholeheartedly recommend the von Winning winery, whether for corporate or business events, special occasions like weddings, or simply for connoisseurs seeking something special. A fantastic location with a modern atmosphere, a large, delicious wine selection, and exceptionally delicious food! A truly wonderful experience every time!

We weren't familiar with the Leopold Restaurant. Although we often shopped in Deidesheim and used the pharmacy's service there. Deidesheim is a beautiful, interesting town. The Billy Goat story alone makes it worth exploring. The LEOPOLD Restaurant was recommended to us, and we were impressed by the service and the excellent food. The opening hours are from 12 p.m. to midnight, making it guest-friendly. The kitchen closes at 9 p.m. No guest should go hungry. A walk-in is not recommended. Reservations for larger groups are recommended. We didn't pre-order either time, but they still found a nice spot for us on the terrace for two people. Expect to pay between €30 and €50 per person for a meal. But all I can say is, the food is delicious. The dining rooms, terrace, and restrooms are wheelchair accessible. The adjacent garden is also very lovingly designed. We had the steak tartare. The taste and presentation were both fantastic. This certainly wasn't our last visit to Restaurant Leopold. (02.08.25) Friendly service, good food, and a pleasant atmosphere—what more could a guest want? We fully recommend the Leopold. This restaurant was named after the winery's founder, Leopold von Winning. Parking is plentiful, even during busy times. (Weinstraße 8)

Very pleasant ambiance, a nicely landscaped garden. Friendly, but somewhat inexperienced service. The food was attractively presented, but very simple and far too expensive for what was offered. It didn't quite fit.

I visited Leopold for the first time today and I was very impressed. I tried a fantastic Kobe beef here. Excellently prepared with a wonderful wasabi puree. The ambiance in the courtyard speaks for itself. Very friendly service.

Dear Von Winning Team, During our visit on August 10, 2025, around 6 p.m., the courtyard was full, so we went to the reception on the terrace. Guests in front of us were turned away quite rudely. We, too, were greeted warmly at first, but then, perhaps because we arrived with a child and a dog, were sent away with the words, "Why don't you go to the fair? You can eat fries there, too." We found this remark derogatory and inappropriate for your establishment. Please investigate this incident internally; such behavior is unsuitable for the role of receptionist. It's a real shame.

Great place with an inspiring and affordable selection of Von Winning’s own wines. Regretfully, we had to stay off the bottles as we were just one couple. Do yourself a favor and team up with friends and unlock the bottles! Food is fantastic and the atmosphere is very cosy.

Great restaurant, great service, awesome food!

For our civil wedding, we had a wonderful champagne reception followed by lunch at Restaurant Leopold. From the planning to the food to the service, everything was perfect for us. We can therefore recommend the restaurant without reservation.

My wife had the lukewarm octopus salad for starters, and I had the dumplings. Both were very tasty. The salad was a good portion for an appetizer. Regarding the dumplings: They were two mini dumplings (3x3cm) with a small shrimp and some foam. The portion was tiny. This wasn't an appetizer, more like a welcome from the kitchen. This shouldn't be sold as an appetizer for €19.80. Hence, two stars deducted.

An extremely good restaurant. The atmosphere is cozy yet classically modern. The food is high quality, and the menu offers a balanced selection. The service is very friendly with a very pleasant touch of humor. We'd happily return for special occasions. An added bonus: dogs are allowed inside, too.

We visited yesterday and received very friendly advice from the sales staff and ordered wine for over €100. Unfortunately, we can't share this experience with the restaurant. We spontaneously decided to have a quick glass on site and were sent away with a disparaging look because apparently there was no room available. We had already communicated beforehand that we only needed five minutes and then moved on. My boyfriend and I have both worked in the restaurant industry for over 10 years, and I have a lot of understanding for rush hours. However, at that time, a maximum of 30% of the tables were occupied, and we might have even had a bite to eat. This resulted in a loss of at least €70-80 in sales – the waiter's behavior was not particularly lucrative. We were allowed to sit in the self-service area. The friendly salesman questioned this with the aforementioned waiter, who then indulged in self-pity and justifications in front of my boyfriend, along the lines of, "You know how it is with staff shortages," and poured us generous drinks. If you want to maintain a certain standard, the staff shouldn't be lacking in professionalism. I didn't know I had to wear Givenchy or Laurent to enter this shop with my family at lunch. It's a real shame, as I enjoy the winery's wine and would have come more often. It's a good thing that there's usually no shortage of friendly people at wineries in the Palatinate region. I would like to emphasize that sales are independent of the restaurant.

Not our first and definitely not our last visit to Winning. Great location!! The team at Winning/Leopold was really great at welcoming us. Our requests were always met with interesting information, our personal tastes were taken into consideration, and personalized recommendations were implemented perfectly for us. The restaurant to go to when you are a wine lover :) very nice selection of wines by the glass from the delicious von Winning estate, in particular the Grands Crus both white and red at very reasonable prices :) Superb selection of Burgundy wines too! Already very good in 2020 during my first visit, the quality of the products has further improved! My favorite restaurant in Deidesheim with a magical terrace to boot. All this with the wise advice of Enzo, (speaking perfect French), a sense of service and a keen eye for the proper functioning of everything :) A big congratulations :) A big thank you for these 3 days. Vorspeise: Wie immer der warme Oktopus-Salat. Eigentlich braucht man nichts anderes. Die Hauptgänge: Steak, Fisch, Saure Nierchen - wieder fantastisch. Bedienung: wie immer extrem freundlich und aufmerksam. Fazit: es ist und bleibt unser absolutes Lieblingsrestaurant in der Region.

Wir waren mal wieder, wie schon so oft, in Deidesheim. Diesmal im Leopold zum Dinner. Hatten Freunde dazu eingeladen, welche die Palzz nicht so kennen. Freundliche Begrüßung und Tischplazierung. Man wurde sofort nach den Getränkewünschen gefragt, Speisekarte folgte. Die Portionen, für mich sehr gross (wie in der Pfalz so üblich) und sehr schmackhaft. Wir würden uns jedoch eine grössere Auswahl an Gerichten wünschen. So wie etwa Filetspitzen, Geschnetzeltes, Schnitzel (für die Kinderwünsche) usw. Als Pinot Grigiotrinker war leider nur 1 Wein auf der Karte, könnte erweitert werden ?? Ansonsten waren wir sehr zufrieden, war ja auch nicht zu erster und auch nicht unser letzter Aufenthalt.

Was very nice. Food was good. The service (middle-aged woman) was tough and friendly, but very resolute, so that you got the impression that you weren't entirely welcome as a guest. That spoiled the evening a bit.

Great cuisine, great ambience, stylish but not too stuffy. The staff is nice and authentic, but could still improve a bit: the food doesn't come at the same time, sometimes things go wrong, and if you need something else, you have to look for them...

Went to Leopold Essen on December 9, 2024. As always very satisfied. However, you can agree with the critics when it comes to the prices for mineral water. Pulpo and pasture lamb tartare are excellent. Goose and kidneys too. Due to the slightly longer waiting time between starter and main course, a free coffee was offered. We didn't use it, but the gesture was great. Update December 21, 2021 Wonderful evening at Leopold. Excellent food and really great service. There was nothing to criticize at all. Just great. Yesterday the four of us had dinner in the Leopold's garden. We were very surprised by the excellent service, which sometimes seemed a bit clumsy. Perfect yesterday. Likewise the food. The tartare was just as excellent as the rump steak, which was served to the point of medium rare. Melon sorbet with sparkling wine as dessert, a delight. The wines are great (Hummelbusch is a delight). The price of mineral water alone, at over €6, seems excessive. Conclusion for yesterday: Great evening in a great restaurant. Update: Ate here on 12/21/19. Everything great. Tatar and pumpkin soup is awesome. Rump steak and duck breast are also excellent. Service very attentive. A great evening. Update on July 22nd, 21 evening Food good, service okay. Discussion about the minimum distance to the neighboring table is unnecessary. 1.50 meters was not maintained. There is room for improvement when preparing the individual dishes (e.g. Pulpo).

Voor het afscheid van mijn man's werk hier nog een keer gaan dineren, in een woord: fantastisch. Prettige ontvangst, heerlijk eten, superlekkere wijn en bediening die ook echt naar je luistert. Op deze gewone maandagavond zijn álle tafels bezet, ongelooflijk, en zelfs dan is de sfeer en akoestiek nog goed. Prima prijs-kwaliteit verhouding. Top!

Visited the restaurant on September 26, 2024 The food and the wine were completely overpriced, and it didn't taste good. The fried potatoes weren't freshly prepared and the kidneys weren't cleaned properly. I actually expected something different.

The food and service were really top. Very tasty from starter to dessert. However, it is very loud in the restaurant and the acoustics are poor. Unfortunately we couldn't sit outside due to the weather.

We sat in the courtyard of the winery listening to chilling music at the Deidesheim wine festival. There was the wine festival menu for dinner in the courtyard. TOP wines - everything your heart desires 👍👍👍

Overall disappointing! The start of the evening was positive: a very nice young waitress accompanied our table, there was nothing to complain about. It was clear that a thunderstorm was coming and when it started, all guests had to go inside. The restaurant manager - given her age she should have experience - shouted loudly: “Everyone in.”. Everyone rushed inside looking for a place, which resulted in small tables outside rushing to large tables inside. There were 6 of us and we had to make sure we could still sit together. Time passed, the main meal just didn't want to come. Drinks were no longer asked for. More time passed, nothing happened. There was already more than an hour between the starter and the main course. Our complaint to the restaurant manager was explained by the storm: no excuse. Then finally our nice young lady from the beginning of the evening came, apologized and asked if she could bring some bread to pass the time. The food came and - like the starter - was very good. After the meal, another waitress told us that because we had complained so loudly, we would get a coffee or sorbet on the house; She found it funny and said it was meant as a joke when we then asked for the bill, angry at such impudence. We actually wanted to have dessert, but we had lost the desire for it. The restaurant manager approached us again and asked us if the restaurant could take over the wines as an apology for the long wait. We rejected that too. Because the competent young lady knew her job from the start, there was still more than 10% tip when we finally got the bill. Unfortunately, this is shared, but so be it. In conclusion: We were really looking forward to this evening, it was our 30th wedding anniversary and we spent it with our sons and families. We were very disappointed. Price-performance ratio is by no means correct. A high-priced restaurant doesn't just have to offer decent quality food. The service cannot be neglected. It will This was not the first thunderstorm in Deidesheim, both the kitchen and service teams should be able to react in an organized manner. There is an urgent need for improvement. The service management in particular was completely overwhelmed. We don't go to a restaurant to find something to complain about and then be invited to something, but rather pay ourselves. In a restaurant of this standard we expect competence and professionalism. What a shame! You could do more with it.

Wir haben draußen zu Abend gegessen, in einem wunderschönen Ambiente unter alten Bäumen. Das Essen war sehr gut, leider war der Service an diesem Abend überlastet. Der große Außenbereich war ausgebucht und das Personal und die Küche kamen kaum hinterher. Wir haben fast 90 Minuten auf den Hauptgang warten müssen! Trotzdem kann ich das Restaurant sehr empfehlen! Es ist eine wunderschöne Location mit gutem Essen und Trinken!

Amazing food and incredible service

Wir waren mit sechs Personen und zwei Hunden anlässlich eines Geburtstages an einem Samstagabend im „Leopold“. Aufgrund des wirklich warmen Wetters war der Aussenbereich geöffnet und mehr als gut besucht. Obwohl das Personal bis „zum Anschlag“ - und das wohl schon seit mittags - gefordert war, waren alle äusserst freundlich und zuvorkommend. Dass die Wartezeiten etwas länger als gewohnt ausfielen, war wohl der oben beschriebenen starken Frequentierung des Restaurants geschuldet. Ansonsten können wir für sämtliche Speisen und Getränke nur Lob aussprechen. Wir haben den Abend in angenehmen Ambiente rundum genossen und werden jederzeit gerne wiederkommen.

We were back at the LEOPOLD after a long time and were completely thrilled. Great attentive service, competent, friendly, with a cheerful charisma. The kitchen is great. Using very good products, we cook at a high level and at the same time reduce it to the essentials. The wine recommendation is of course top. Particularly worth mentioning is the constant pricing, very fairly calculated. This makes eating out a lot of fun. A restaurant that almost everyone in the neighborhood wants.

Service very nice. Ambience fantastic. Food exclusive and good. But people - waiting 2 hours for a meal is not appropriate. Just hire people. Recording orders on a slip of paper, sharing invoices means mental arithmetic on an A4 paper, 1 EC device for the entire company? Please come to the 21st century! Tradition is good, but you also have to think about progress a bit. And please offer, lack of skilled workers or not - offer Kobe beef and no one in the kitchen, that's not possible.

The food is good... very good in fact - but not good enough for these prices. A mixture of a tourist trap and the claim to be an upscale establishment. For example, the third (vegetable) component was simply missing from the ox cheeks. It's actually a shame, because the store has a great atmosphere and the service is very courteous.

When pouring the wine, people sometimes look for glasses - very nice. Only smiling people!

You don't actually need good reviews anymore, but honest praise is always possible. The food was very good. I had the veal kidneys. You can't eat it everywhere, but it was ideal here. The service staff is also very attentive and well trained. I almost forgot my coat, but the nice lady from the service, I still remembered it, I found it very remarkable, even though there was a lot going on. Thank you for that, we'll be happy to come back

Worst service I ever experienced. We waited almost 2 hours to get our food because they lost the order in the kitchen. They didn’t try to ease our experience at all to compensate for the extreme delay. At the end we wanted to have a dessert but no one came to ask if we wanted one so after 20 minutes we decided to ask the bill at leave. They didn’t even take 1€ off the bill to make up for the terrible experience. Unfortunately I really don’t recommend it.

Absolutely top class! Great ambience! Amazing food! Great staff Ate there 2 days in a row WOW!!! and experienced NO disappointment! The food was again perfectly prepared, seasoned and beautifully presented. The dessert was a poem, the lemonade and the aperitif were delicious! The service was again really nice this time and was available for a quick chat, simply pleasant! If we go on holiday in the area again, this will be our regular restaurant!

Since we were at von Winning's wine tasting anyway, my wife, son and I spontaneously decided to grab a bite to eat at Leopold. We were lucky and got a free table in the beautiful garden. The food, service and ambience are always worth a visit here.
