Great food for a very reasonable price. Dining by the fireplace is incredibly cozy. The kitchen interior looks sleek and very clean. Restrooms are full of chrome, all of which can be used as a mirror.

The Haarmühle country inn in Alstätte offers a great selection of beers and a very cozy atmosphere with an open fire. The outdoor seating area is also lovely, and even in the current season, umbrellas are available. The playground is beautifully designed and is constantly being improved. The historic watermill, which can be visited, is particularly impressive. Additionally, there's the option of taking a paddleboat ride, which makes the outing even more enjoyable. Overall, the Haarmühle is a great destination for the whole family.

Classic but very good cuisine, friendly staff, beautiful ambiance...

We ate there yesterday. We each had the schnitzel (formerly called "Gypsy") and the hunter's schnitzel. They gave us a complimentary appetizer, which we thought was very nice. The ambiance is fantastic, which we couldn't really say about the schnitzel. There was definitely room for improvement. Sorry, but it was only fast-food quality. The fried potatoes that came with it were good. There's no need to say anything about the prices; they're high everywhere. €18.50 for the schnitzel would have been okay if the schnitzel had been good. A bottle of Grolsch and a wheat beer were both €6.50. Oh well. I guess that's how it is these days.

The four of us enjoyed our meal at the Haarmühle again – just like last time, it was simply delicious! We also really appreciated the friendly service and the regional bread, which you can even buy afterwards.

We visited the Haarmühle country inn for brunch at the end of October 2025 with a group of three. The breakfast buffet was exceptionally varied. Everything looked incredibly fresh, and the homemade bread was the icing on the cake. The dining room in the barn is very cozy, with an open fireplace and exposed wooden beams. We will definitely be back!

The restaurant was very busy. We were lucky and got a table for two. The atmosphere is very cozy, especially for the colder season. In the summer, there's a large beer garden. We received very friendly service, and the food was exceptionally good! The bread and dips served as an appetizer can be purchased directly at the counter, as well as several other homemade products. We were completely satisfied 😍

Too bad... it was busy. And there weren't enough people to serve. So, a long wait. Normally, it's better organized.

Cozy atmosphere and good service

I've been there several times for a lovely breakfast buffet. On some days, you might be lucky enough to find freshly baked bread or pumpkins from local farmers. In addition to the great food, there's also a party barn where my brother celebrated his wedding. Exceptionally good, a very beautiful place!

We had dinner yesterday. I had a schnitzel pan. It's very different from what it used to be, which is a bit of a shame.

Delicious bread from the wood-fired oven with garlic cream and a kind of buttered red wine and onions. Friendly staff who are very attentive to the guests' well-being. Beautiful country inn nestled in the forest. Plenty of outdoor seating. A children's playground is available. A historic watermill and a bakery are nearby. There's also a great barn for weddings and other celebrations. Service is friendly and prompt, and the food is delicious.

We ordered a Wiener Schnitzel and a Schnitzel with Paprika Sauce. The meat was extremely bad and, in our opinion, was pressed meat; it tasted of nothing. The plate of meat and fries was served carelessly without any decoration. In short: 0 looks and 0 taste! Any chip shop could do better! We didn't eat most of it and complained about it. Apart from a free coffee, which we politely declined, they didn't accommodate us in any way with the bill. We left the restaurant hungry. Never again Haarmühle! That was different. What happened there?

Beautiful seating. Great atmosphere and good service. The main course was delicious. We would have appreciated some vegetables for the price. We found the carpaccio a bit tasteless, especially considering the price.

The service was very friendly, but when asked, they were unable to specifically name the soup of the day and the dessert of the day. We ordered five lunch menus. The starter and main course were served lukewarm. The overall quality of the main course left much to be desired. For example, the cream of mushroom sauce contained canned mushrooms. The promising "asparagus ragout" consisted of a thick, ready-made hollandaise sauce and five pieces of asparagus. Overall, the main courses contained far too many extremely fatty ingredients, so we devoured them until late in the evening. It's a shame, because the historic ambiance is perfect for lingering.

Beautiful surroundings and a charming spot for a drink just across the border. There's a playground for the kids and a proper beer garden. It's partly self-service, so you'll need to be patient. Unfortunately, I can't comment on the food.

The terrace and service were excellent. The lunch was disappointing. They're probably not well-equipped to serve a vegetarian lunch. In this case, fried camembert with leek ale, delicious.

Easy to reach even without a car 😺

We had a lovely bike ride today and ended up at this lovely restaurant. This morning we had delicious coffee and pastries, followed by a fantastic lunch. The food was delicious, and the staff were very friendly and professional. We really enjoyed it, and we will definitely be back. What a beautiful area for cycling! 👍

We stayed there with our motorhome at the Langasthof's own motorhome parking space via the Landvergnügen app. Our first experience with Landvergnügen, we were not disappointed with the Haarmühle; reserving our pitch was easy. We had access to electricity and there was also free Wi-Fi, although unfortunately it didn't work. We were completely alone on the pitch, nice and quiet. After our arrival, we enjoyed a delicious lunch. Afterwards, we went on a bike ride in the surrounding area, which was very nice. We had already reserved a table for the evening, which is definitely worth doing in advance. Dinner was also simply fantastic👌 The next morning, we enjoyed a very filling breakfast at the Landgasthof Haarmühle with a fantastic breakfast buffet. To sum up our little motorhome tour via the Landvergnügen app, everything was perfect, and the staff there were extremely friendly, even though they're already quite busy, which is rare. A beautifully located inn near the Dutch border. Excellent cuisine with some regional house dishes. Everything is delicious. The Haarmühle is located in a fantastic area and is a great place to stop along the many beautiful and not-too-difficult bike paths in the Haaksbergen, Büürse, Haaksberger Venn, and other regions. The bread, freshly baked in a stone oven, is also absolutely delicious.

We stopped here for a break during a bike ride. Lovely place with a large beer garden. Everyone enjoyed the food, and the service was also very 👍🏻. You can also see the farm of the same name here for free.

It was normally busy, as we're used to this time of year. There was only one waitress who spoke decent German, but she was rather rude when taking our order. After I pointed it out, her behavior improved. The rest of the staff seemed to barely speak German. This caused the wait times to increase, which wasn't a problem since we had plenty to discuss, but we decided to forgo dessert and coffee. Other tables went inside and got their own. It used to be better—we've been coming here for 25 years.

The Haarmühle, a well-known attraction in the area, offers fantastic walks through several nature reserves. There's something beautiful to see in every season. Walk among the Scottish Highlanders in the Witte Veen nature reserve, or take a different route that suits you. Something for everyone. Afterwards, relax on the large terrace and enjoy a delicious snack and/or drink. Or dine inside in the typically German-style restaurant. There's also plenty for children to do, including the extensive playground and boat rentals.

A very nice beer garden. Unfortunately, our service was a bit lackluster. My husband had a small schnitzel with a fried egg and some bread and didn't leave us feeling full, and my schnitzel (frozen?) was deep-fried with canned or jarred mushrooms. I hadn't expected anything different from a restaurant like this.

One dish was way too salty and a German hamburger is tasty but you really can't serve it on a hard pita bread.

You can get great food here, including home-cooked meals, delicious homemade bread (a variety of bread available for purchase at the window), and tasty liverwurst. And of course, you can sit inside or outside, however you like. There's still a hint of nostalgia here. A wonderful place for a stroll. Check it out.

Everything is a surprise! It's incredibly cozy and a beautiful spot to sit. The surroundings are incredibly romantic, with beautiful nature perfect for cycling or walking.

It was a lovely day, we will definitely come back more often with our grandchildren.

Everyone who lives in the region knows this place, and most have been there at least once. Especially when the weather is good, it's a wonderful place to cycle to and enjoy a drink, tea, or coffee with a generous slice of delicious pastry on the large terrace. On weekends, there's often live music to liven things up and enhance the atmosphere. The surrounding area, on both the German and Dutch sides of the border, offers excellent opportunities for cycling and/or walking.

We think it's gotten quite expensive. Two thin slices of schnitzel with a few fries and no salad for €18.30. We used to come regularly, which is a shame. The surrounding area is beautiful.

We were hoping for more; the schnitzel was truly terrible. It was cafeteria food at exorbitant prices. The kids didn't like it either. What a shame! We thought it was a nice, good, and tasty restaurant (as it says on the menu), but we were extremely disappointed. Frozen food - very poor value for money. No salad or anything like that included, extortionate!! The staff and ambiance don't match the food at all. You might as well eat at the supermarket around the corner... Tastes just as bad. The schnitzel is frozen, nothing fresh. At €18.50!!!!! I expect a decent schnitzel, not such garbage. Never again!!!

The food quality isn't what it used to be, which is a real shame. I always came for the onion soup, but it tastes different now, and the German dishes are different too. I inquired, and there's a different chef now. Tastes okay, but not as good as before.

Hamburger sandwich... € 19.00... if you want fries per person, another € 4.00 extra... But hey... you're sitting there wonderfully... on Wednesdays in June the terrace is packed... but all 70/75 + by the way...

Delicious cakes, delicious coffee, and very friendly staff. Dogs are welcome. Much of the food is truly homemade. Be sure to pick up some of the amazing fresh bread. The brown bread is divine and stays fresh for a long time. We love it. Great walks with and without dogs are possible. You'll sometimes walk on the German side and sometimes on the Dutch side. :-) Highly recommended

Certainly a nice destination. Unfortunately, the quality of the food has declined considerably. Everyone should judge the prices for themselves. But charging €2.50 for a slice of bread with the grated biscuits is no longer a matter of calculation. In my opinion, that's extortion.
