Yesterday we went to Rino's again, and as always, it was fabulous—great craftsmanship! My favorite restaurant!

We were there as part of the Restaurant Carousel, and it was an all-around positive experience. The friendly and attentive service from all the staff, including the chef, along with the excellent menu (even a bit more extensive than advertised), made for a wonderful evening!

A warm welcome and attentive service. The food is exquisite and a blend of flavors. The wines are an experience. We'll be happy to return.

I've been to many restaurants and experienced many Restaurant Karrussels and Menu Carrussels, but La Grappa is one of the absolute best experiences. Be it the extremely attentive, polite, and courteous service from both the staff and the chef himself. The Italian food at Restaurant Karrussel was delicious and individually delicious. The accompanying wines were so well selected that we immediately ordered some online. And when everyone at the table thought: "That was great," it got even better: The planned four courses suddenly became seven courses with three intermediate courses. Before the appetizer, there was a pre-appetizer and a welcome from the kitchen. Instead of dessert, we had two. At the end, we were very full, well-intoxicated, and simply thrilled. We'll be back!

Long planned – finally done! La Grappa is a great address for lovers of Italian cuisine on the northern edge of the Südviertel district, just a stone's throw from the main train station. The small, quaint restaurant has something of a cabinet of curiosities about it – lovingly chaotic and full of character. The host: a picture-perfect restaurateur. I was there for a business lunch with wine pairing – a great little escape from everyday life. Perfect for anyone who appreciates good food and an authentic atmosphere. Highly recommended for connoisseurs!

We went to eat bison! We were at an event before and the food was so terrible that we spontaneously escaped and found our bison and truffles at La Grappa.

I'm in the university clinic for treatment... I wanted to go to an Italian restaurant with my husband and have a delicious meal. The prices are underground, very overpriced. We decided on tortellini (p. 22 euros). Super delicious, but unfortunately neither of them were full.

For the people that complain about the price here don’t understand how such excellent service and food is being produced and repeated every day. This restaurant is an institution of the city and Germany and has had Michelin recommendations and many others. This is not a tourist ripoff but a high class restaurant which the owner has put his sweat and blood in for the past 45 years. You will have a hard time finding a place with an owner that passionate about his restaurant and the quality of his food and service. Highly recommended if you want something special and unforgettable!

As always, everything was great. If you get involved with the boss, you'll have a nice evening and something more will show up on the bill, but you always have the choice of saying no or asking about the price. Kitchen and service was excellent.

Gestern war ich mit Freunden im Grappa und es war ein sensationelles Erlebnis. Das Menü war geschmacklich sehr gut aufeinander abgestimmt und das Highlight war das Thunfisch-Carpaccio an weißer Trüffelsauce

Very expensive and a lot of expensive things are forced on you (for 9 euros each mini appetizer and "water" = whole bottle if you come alone). Otherwise very tasty and cozy.

Signor Fratesi, is a serata meravigliosa and the first class era. I vini erano molto ben abbinati, the vostro personale è examples e saremmo felici di tornare. The quality of the food in this restaurant is okay, but here only regulars are served and treated well and fairly. The prices for food and drinks are completely overpriced. Tourists and trade fair visitors are potential victims, for whom as much money as possible should be taken out of their pockets. The chef tries to get his menu to the man without even handing out a menu card and reacts extremely unfriendly when the guests want to read the menu beforehand. I have experienced a lot in all my travels, but the behavior of the owner and the staff in this restaurant is a negative highlight.

Now the “Restaurant Carousel” is running again in the fall and I’m looking forward to going to La Grappa again. In January, when we were last there, the menu was great with some extras!

As soon as we sat down, the waiter politely asked if we wanted water and an aperitif recommendation. When he finally handed us the card, he asked if we would like a recommendation, which we took. Even though we unfortunately had a time limit, this didn't faze the waiter. In contrast, he assured us that he would time everything, which he did. The three course menu was perfect and an excellent recommendation. The final Grapper and Masala were among the best drinks we had. The service was always friendly, responded to dislikes with good counter-suggestions and independently suggested a break between courses, which is always important to us.

Excellent food like in the first class I have eaten all over in Italy. If you are in Essen and not visiting La Grapa you miss something. Great services.

La Grappa, Rellinghauser Str. 4, 45128 Essen, Germany. Visited in June 2024. We had a few drinks and bread before our friends arrived. We got the me us and we're surprised at the high prices.  We were going to pay and go but they offered a deal. We accepted and the gnocchi was fantastic, a 50 year old recipe which did not disappoint.  To sum it up great food and service but prices are very high compared to similar restaurants in my experience.

Coffee or cappuccino costs 13 euros. Outrageously more expensive. Plush panda cotta. For 2 people bill 36 euros.

Today for the 2nd time at La Grappa! We decided on the menu again and were once again thrilled about this culinary journey. Thank you very much for a successful evening. We would like to come again.

We had a great multi-course menu and were served very friendly and attentive. The ambience is reminiscent of previous good Italian restaurants. But that's exactly what you don't find so often anymore. A wine suggestion didn't fit, but this was implemented immediately and we got a very good replacement. It was a great evening. We'd love to come back.

The restaurant known thanks to a friend, the food is Italian and the food is selected. Rino, the very friendly owner, offered us a delicious "yellow datterini tomato juice"! We had tuna tartare, scampi and herring then stuffed gnocchi with truffle sauce. The wine list is very good, nice selection of companies with important old vintages available.

Visited as part of the Karussell restaurant. Very attentive and friendly personal service. The food is excellent, quality and taste seem to be a matter of the heart. Parking - typical for the city of Essen.

We were spontaneously looking for a restaurant to eat. This restaurant had 2 seats left. The food was delicious, but we would have wished that the bruschetta had been prepared a little differently, e.g. the tomato slice and mozzarella diced with diced onions and garlic in a broth and perhaps some oregano for decoration. There were 3 baguette slices on the plate, each with a tomato slice and a mozzarella slice. They looked a bit bland and the taste was also a bit boring. For the main course we would have thought that there would be baguette. But the pasta dishes were very tasty. Unfortunately, the favorite dessert was sold out. The service was very nice. We would come again.

This restaurant is truly wonderful. Yes, the prices aren't low, but the food and incredibly attentive service are worth every euro. Greetings from the kitchen, bread is refilled, as soon as a glass is empty, more is poured in immediately. The ambience is reminiscent of bygone times, is a charming contrast to so many impersonal and over-styled 0/8/15 shops and is what creates its special charm. Also the best gnocci I've ever eaten. We have already had four great evenings in this restaurant and will come again!

Visiting this first class restaurant was an exceptional experience. Classic Italian atmosphere and very courteous service were just the beginning. A rich wine list and a very balanced and creative menu continued the very good impression. Homemade creations and specialties as appetizers really stood out and were a change from classic cuisine. The main course was phenomenal, perhaps a tiny bit too small in portion, but still filling. Everything was noticeably homemade and fresh, including the pasta dough. The quality of the food was tasty and is particularly worth mentioning for me. Extremely delicious dessert and excellent coffee rounded the whole thing off. As a middle-income earner, this was a great meal for me and an experience that was worth it. It was worth the money and will stay in my mind for a long time, thanks to the incredibly nice service and the unforgettable taste experiences. Unreserved recommendation if you are planning a special evening.

We had dinner there yesterday with our 2 small children. We wanted to go to another restaurant nearby. Luckily there weren't any free tables there otherwise we would never have ended up at La Grappa. The food is to die for. The atmosphere is very cozy. The service couldn't be better. My husband and I often eat out with our children and have never eaten so well or felt so comfortable.

In a slimmed down form, 2 people, ate here again. Excellent again. Still quite expensive, but hey, you get something. Old-fashioned charming service. Thanks! January 2023 Booked here on recommendation. There were 6 of us, and we got a somewhat cramped table by the window. Especially for our male colleagues. Only did menus but that didn't matter in the end. Everything was delicious. Wines were recommended on the menu, and these too were delicious. The tent is packed with everything and anything. Somewhat strange art in the women's toilet, but all in all a nice place. Certainly not cheap, but worth it. Complete controls correct.

Last week we had a concert in Essen and we came here for dinner. Apart from the overpriced prices, there was an extra 7 euros on the bill, when I asked what that was, he showed me the bread they put on the table. When we said that it wasn't on the menu and that we hadn't ordered bread, the owner came to the table and threatened to call the police in a very unfriendly way

Wir haben den Fehler gemacht, mit unseren Freunden in dieses Restaurant zu gehen. Wir haben unglaublich viel Geld für tiefgefrorene Garnelen und einfache Nudeln aus dem Supermarkt bezahlt. Abgesehen davon, dass es teuer war, war die Rechnung höher als das, was wir gegessen haben, und als wir reklamierten, wurden wir von dem Besitzer unglaublich unhöflich behandelt.

Essen war super, Weine spektakulär. Besonders wer auf der Suche nach Masseto, Ornellaia und Gaja Weinen ist kann hier eigentlich nicht enttäuscht werden. Pullover dort vergessen, wurde mir direkt nachgeschickt, da ich selbst nicht aus Essen komme und nur zu Besuch in Essen war. Top Service! Vielen Dank!

Wir hatten uns für ein mehrgängiges Menü entschieden und es war exzellent. Alle Gänge waren fein abgestimmt aufeinander, toll gewürzt und mit überraschenden Zutaten versehen. Der Service war besonders aufmerksam und freundlich. Das Ambiente hat noch den Charme der 90ziger. Der Inhaber Rino hat stets gute Vorschläge für die Weinbegleitung, jedoch sollte man vorab nach den Preisen fragen. Wir waren begeistert.

Eine sensationelle Überraschung! Ein Italiener wie aus der Zeitmaschine mit Interior aus den 1980er, sehr professionellem Service und atemberaubender Küche. Ich bin kein Fan von Superlativen, aber die Pasta mit Edelfisch war phänomenal!

Wir waren mit 7 Personen zum Karussell Menue im La Grappa. Wer eine "Pizzeria" mit 08/15 Essen erwartet, ist hier falsch. Wer richtig schmackhafte und excelente italienische Küche erwartet, wird ein richtig tolles Essen genießen können. Die Speisen waren genial und die begleitenden Weine großartig. Einfach hervorragend! Dem freundlichen Empfang folgte ein absolut hervorragender Service durch die angenehmen, kompetenten Mitarbeiter. Die Speisen, insgesamt 7 Gänge inkl. zweier "Grüße aus der Küche", waren einfach erstklassig. Höhepunkt: Die besten Gnocchi (mit Trüffelsauce) ever! Die Weine - wunderbar! Ich konnte es mir nicht nehmen lassen, 3 Flaschen für zuhause mitzunehmen. Der Chef, Rino, war stets präsent und für jeden Sonderwunsch offen. Drum, in einem Satz: Ein perfekter Abend! Danke!

This is the best Italian restaurant I have ever been so far when I travel to Essen. This night we didn’t have the menu but every meal was really delicious! There were some creative dishes I haven’t seen and tried before. A perfect feast for after a tiring day.

Ein sehr gutes Restaurant mit fabelhafter und frischer Küche. Wir sind zufällig hier essen gewesen und sind begeistert. Man bekommt die ganze Zeit frisches Brot mit selbstgemachter Mascarpone und die Gerichte sind allesamt frisch zubereitet worden. Die Karte ist klein aber dafür qualitativ umso besser. Der Wirt ist sehr herzlich und zuvorkommend, wie auch der Rest des Personals. Zusammenfassend kann man sagen, dass man hier ein authentisch italienisches Erlebnis mit hochwertiger Küche genießt. Eine sehr gelungene Abwechslung zum typischen "Pizza e Pasta" Einheitsbrei.

Absolut leckeres Essen, sowie zuvorkommender Service

Wir waren am Freitag Abend zu zweit im La Grappa. Mein letzter Besuch war bereits 15 Jahre her. Es scheint dort die Zeit stehen geblieben zu sein, und das im positiven Sinn. Das Ambiente versprüht den Glamour vergangener Zeiten, die privaten „Sitzbereiche“ sind immer noch besonders. Das Essen war wieder fantastisch. Die hausgemachten Nudeln bzw. Gnocchi mit Trüffelsahnesause sind ein Gedicht, das Büffelfilet eine unbedingte Empfehlung! Hinzu kamen kleine Aufmerksamkeiten des Hauses, die durch einen rundum perfekten Service abgerundet wurden. Besser geht es kaum. Auch Preis-Leistung sind hier absolut stimmig. Ein kleines Juwel in Essen! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We went here for a team dinner last week whilst we were in Essen for a conference. They totally scammed us, they hardly spoke any English (conveniently), we ordered the 5 course tasting menu and everything that came after we assumed were part of that menu. WRONG! They charged us for the bread, a cocktail, a whole course etc etc all of which we didn't order. We stupidly didn't check the bill when it came and when we saw we were E100 overcharged we read the reviews and many people experienced the same. I wouldn't recommend for a pleasant experience.

Были здесь с друзьями воскресным вечером. Антураж очень понравился - браво дизайнерам! Хотелось попробовать какой нибудь вкусный десерт. Выбрали панакоту. Прекрасно приготовлено и подано. Обслуживание прекрасное. Официанты подобны лодкам на воздушной подушке. Работают быстро, красиво и тихо. В заведении тепло, чисто, уютно. Цены демократические. Обязательно появится здесь снова.

Das Essen ist etwas zu teuer für was es ist. Für mich waren die Beilage zu wenig.

Ein wundervolles Restaurant. Top Service. Super leckere Gerichte. Das Überraschungsmenü ist eine Wucht!

POV: Wenn dich deine Freunde fragen, wo ihr essen gehen wollt, ihr nicht zwingend 200€ pro Person zahlen wollt, um satt zu werden, sondern einfach nur schnell was schnabulieren wollt, dann bring sie hier hin und ihr schämt euch in Grund und Boden. Bei uns kam der Kellner, fragte ohne Karten auszuteilen, was wir denn trinken wollen. Wir entschieden uns nichtsahnend einfach zu bestellen, gemäß dem Motto „Arm werden wir dabei nicht“ Dabei täuschten wir uns tatsächlich enorm. Als wir dann die Karte bekamen, kotzen wir erstmal unsere Getränke zurück ins Glas und wollten die Rechnung ordern, jedoch mussten wir uns erstmal unter Kontrolle bekommen, denn das Lachen über die utopischen Preise konnte man sich einfach nicht verkneifen. Währenddessen wollte man uns mehrfach eine „kleine Portion Gnocci“ für 12 Euro pro Person andrehen, welche wir natürlich vehement ablehnten. Als wir endlich fertig gelacht/geweint haben, forderten wir die Rechnung an und das war dann auch der Zeitpunkt, ab dem wir von dem Personal wie Dreck behandelt wurden. Als ich sagte, ich zahle unsere Rechnung, kamen nur noch sarkastische Kommentare und abwertende Blicke. Ich mein, es war auch nur ein 20i aber wir haben deren Tisch auch maximal für 10 Minuten Blockiert und der daraus resultierende Stundenumsatz, ähnelt dem eines Scheichs. Wir zahlen dann endlich und gingen, der Abend und das Lachen waren absolut unbezahlbar, vielen Dank an der Stelle. Nichtsdestotrotz ist dieser Laden ein Affront gegen das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis, denn der Service war Schmutz und geschnittene Gurke (Carpaccio von der Zucchini) für 17€ anzubieten ist einfach mehr als nur frech. Fazit: wenn ihr essen wolltet um satt zu werden, vergesst diesen Laden und sein schmieriges Personal. :)

Hammer-Italiener.! Von den Vorspeisen über Hauptgang bis und mit Grappa, _ alles auf sehr hohem kulinarischem Niveau. Grazie a tutti.

Das beste Itaenische Restaurant Essens. Vom Anfang bis Ende hervorragend! Kann ich nur weiter empfehlen. Das beste Serviceteam samt Besitzer.

Guten Morgen! Es ist kurz vor drei Uhr morgens. Ich bin Koch und liebe es überrascht zu werden. Passiert selten. Oft werde ich enttäuscht. Besonders als Profi auf meinem Gebiet. Im La Grappa jedoch nicht. Zwar sind die Preise hoch, jedoch für dieses Essen angemessen. Für die Getränke auch! Der Fisch ist Fangfrisch gebraten und nicht aufgetaut, der Weißwein perfekt gekühlt und serviert, besser ist es selten! 10 von 5 Sternen. Besser in Essen italienisch essen, geht nicht. Ich komme wieder! Gerne und mit Vorfreude👌

Spontan hinein. Nettes Ambiente, Haufen Personal. Sehr freundlich keine Frage. ABER Achtung. Wenn dir Brot hingestellt wird, Zack 3€. Und dann liefern die ohne zu fragen immer neu und manchmal nehmen die den halbvollen Korb mit. Achtung, Wasser kommt gleich mit 8.50€ ums Eck. Gute Italiener, und ich weiß das aus Rom und Heimat, nimmt für das Wasser nix. Das Essen war lecker, ohne Frage, aber etwas gehobene Preise. Zudem wurschteln zuviele Kellner zu oft am Tisch Rum, so das kaum Ruhe einkehrt. Wir waren das erste und letzte Mal in dem Restaurant.

Nettes Restaurant aber total überteuert. Das Essen ist lecker aber den Preis nicht wert. Der Brotkorb wird immer wieder aufgefüllt ohne das er leer war aber am Ende mit 3€ berechnet wird obwohl nicht nachbestellt wurde. Eine Pasta kostet 16€ nicht mal selbst gemacht und die Cambas sind Tiefkühlgarnelen. Waren das erste und letztes Mal dort. Verstehe die ganzen positiven Rezessionen nicht die nicht mal schreiben was spitze und gut war. Sorry aber zu empfehlen ist es nicht so wie verfahren wird.

The owner offered us a nice 5 course menu with wine. Without saying anything about prices. Food wasn't bad, but we were forced to pay 900 euro for 6 people. This is clearly a scam, and it happened to many more here, looking at the reviews. Stay away!

Wir waren im La Grappe in Essen zum ersten Mal und können den Hype überhaupt nicht verstehen! Das Lokal ist urig kitschig eingerichtet, was in den 90er Jahren sicherlich witzig und besonders war… Die Kellner sind sehr nett und aufmerksam. Leider hat uns die Küche auf voller Linie enttäuscht! Wir hatten uns auf Empfehlung für das Überraschungsmenü entschieden. Vorweg gab es Carpaccio mit Kaviar. Das Carpaccio war noch zum Teil gefroren, sehr versalzen und unter einer fetten Mayonnaisen-Sauce begraben. Als zweiten Gang gab es Riesengarnelen mit einer süßsauren (Fertig)Soße. Geschmacklich hat es an ein Chinesisches Lokal erinnert, schade um die schönen Garnelen. Es folgte die Dorade -auf der Haut gebraten- leider nichts besonderes. Sie wurde auf einem sahnigen „Reis-Garnelenbrei“ serviert, ebenfalls zu salzig. Die dann gereichten Gnocchi waren das Highlight, sehr locker und leicht, lecker gefüllt, allerdings wieder mit einer fetten Sahnesauce 🙄 Dann gab es Rinderfleisch geschmacklich okay, sehr englisch vom Garpunkt her, mit Ruccola und Parmesan. Es geht also auch mal ohne fette Sahnesauce! Das Dessert war ein belangloses Mousse. Wir kommen aus Düsseldorf, sind also hohe Preise gewohnt ;-) aber eben auch Qualität! Hier beim La Grappa war bei uns das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis einfach schlecht: 88,00 für das Menü, eine Fl.Wein + Wasser machten für 2 Personen stolze 265,00 €. Wir wissen nicht warum dieses Lokal so gefeiert wird…. Kulinarisch gibt es weitaus bessere Italiener, die ihre „italienische Seele“ behalten haben und nicht alles mit fetter Sahne oder Mayo übertünchen. Sämtlichen Speisen fehlte die italienische Handschrift. Wir haben von einem Italiener, der so lange am Markt ist wesentlich mehr erwartet. Die freundlichen Kellner erhalten die volle Punktzahl, die Küche ist unterer Durchschnitt. Schade! Die Luft, das Raumklima war zu stickig.

Sie wurde auf einem sahnigen „Reis-Garnelenbrei“ serviert, ebenfalls zu salzig. Die dann gereichten Gnocchi waren das Highlight, sehr locker und leicht, lecker gefüllt, allerdings wieder mit einer fetten Sahnesauce 🙄 Dann gab es Rinderfleisch geschmacklich okay, sehr englisch vom Garpunkt her, mit Ruccola und Parmesan. Es geht also auch mal ohne fette Sahnesauce! Das Dessert war ein belangloses Mousse. Wir kommen aus Düsseldorf, sind also hohe Preise gewohnt ;-) aber eben auch Qualität! Hier beim La Grappa war bei uns das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis einfach schlecht: 88,00 für das Menü, eine Fl.Wein + Wasser machten für 2 Personen stolze 285,00 €. Wir wissen nicht warum dieses Lokal so gefeiert wird…. Kulinarisch gibt es weitaus bessere Italiener, die ihre „italienische Seele“ behalten haben und nicht alles mit fetter Sahne oder Mayo übertünchen. Sämtlichen Speisen fehlte die italienische Handschrift. Wir haben von einem Italiener, der so lange am Markt ist wesentlich mehr erwartet. Die freundlichen Kellner erhalten die volle Punktzahl, die Küche ist unterer Durchschnitt. Schade! Leider ist das Luft/Raumklima sehr stickig.

Definitiv überteuert. Auf keinen Fall dem Chef vertrauen auch wenn er noch so freundlich scheint. Wir fühlten uns betrogen. 150€ pro Person, so viel ist das Essen garantiert nicht wert.

Tolle Atmosphäre und toller Service. Da keine veganen Gerichte auf der Karte standen, hat die Küche kurzerhand ein veganes Menü für mich gezaubert. Echt top! 👍

Il cibo va bene, ma 150 euro a testa per un menu è proprio esagerato assai. State attenti, sempre scegliere te stesso, non fidare perché ti fregano alla grande!

Also wir waren am Silvester Abend vor Ort und wurden richtig nett empfangen und behandelt. Die Mitarbeiter sowie der Chef sind ultranett Das Essen ist das beste was wir jemals auf dem Tisch bekommen haben. Es ist einfach unglaublich es muss sich wirklich jeder davon selber überzeugen aber ich finde das Essen ist jeden Cent wert. Dieses Restaurant und Atmosphäre ist ein absolutes Muss. Für jeden Feinschmecker.!! Und von uns noch mal für alles danke danke danke

Ein herzlicher Empfang, ein 4-Gang-Menü zum hinschmelzen (plus Gruß a.d. Küche und Pralinen!), ein köstlicher Wein, ein sehr gemütliches Ambiente, ein warmherziger Abschied plus Präsent…., ganz kurz: wir kommen wieder 🥰

Wieder einmal großartig. Wir durften die Ideen fürs Silvestermenü kosten und bewerten. Der Weisswein dazu so gut, dass wir auf den traditionellen Rotwein verzichtet haben

Essen ist lecker! Die Servicekraft nahm uns einfach das Brot ungefragt weg, obwohl noch was drin war, stellte uns dann neues hin und verrechnet pro Scheibe 3 Euro obwohl wir von den neuen nichts gegessen hatten. War schon unverschämt. Schade eigentlich.. da das Ambiente ganz hübsch ist..

En déplacement pour un salon, nous avons dîner à la Grappa. Rien à redire, nous avons très bien mangé et passé une bonne soirée.

Essen war geschmacklich ok, die Portionen bei dem Menue so lala, der Preis von 169€ p P. Wir waren mit fünf Personen da. In meinen Augen eine Frechheit. Ich war das erste und letzte Mal dort.

Wir haben zu fünft 854€ für ein 5 Gänge Menü bezahlt! Also 170€ pro Person. Qualität war sehr gut aber insgesamt doch sehr zuviel pro Person!

Essen und Service waren wieder einmal hervorragend. Bis zum nächsten Mal.

Die Rechnung war höher als das, was wir bestellt hatten. Abgesehen davon kostet die billigste Pasta 16 Euro. Sehr schlechter Geschmack, schlechte Qualität. Als wir dem Chef widersprachen, wurden wir mit unglaublicher Unhöflichkeit und Aggression konfrontiert.

Beim Check der Rechnung von gestern Abend stieß ich soeben auf eine Energie-Pauschale in Höhe von 3€ pro Person= 15€. Heimlich, still und leise. Das ist eine Unverschämtheit! Das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis steht außerdem in keinem Verhältnis.
