I used to work there 30 years ago, back then the self-service beer garden was just being reopened, now it seems to have been moved back again, feels a bit like a step back, the quality of the food has remained the same, still good / rustic but now Not a gourmet story, but it was still nice to come back to Essen after 30 years and see that everything is still standing 😉

That was a great experience. Great location, quite rustically furnished with brewing kettles etc. Very courteous service and great atmosphere. The food was really great. Fresh salad, great fried schnitzel and nicely fried fries. All very tasty. All in all a very nice evening. Highly recommended again.

Rustic restaurant with lots of seats inside and in the beer garden. Extensive menu with good price-performance ratio. Delicious draft beer, e.g. Zwickel as a specialty. Can be quite loud inside with many guests, but there are quiet corners or side rooms there too.

As has often been the case, the food was very good. It just tastes good. The portions are more than sufficient and notice that a lot of it is really homemade. You have to like the menu, it's just not very extensive. But in my opinion that's exactly what's good. There is actually something for every taste. Staff is friendly and the food comes to the table quickly. Always my pleasure.

It's a shame, it's a nice beer garden, but for me everything is way too expensive here for the price of a currywurst, I have no words! You have to like the beer, mine wouldn't be. Staff not that friendly either, which is a shame. The beer garden in the castle park is better!!

Full marks are still not enough!! The food is really outstanding; Schnitzel tastes as original as in Vienna! The service is friendly and the beer garden atmosphere is recommended. Anyone looking for a cozy place to stay in Essen/Borbeck has come to the right place!

We were here on a day when there was a lot going on. There are many tables and rooms for events, everything well structured. Nice, friendly and helpful service. Hearty, unusual food in the brewery was a positive experience.

The beergarden. Inside it looks super charming and cozy. Great beer selection. My favorite: dark parlor beer. Great typical German food selection, also vegetarian option. My recommendation: pork knuckle

Thanks for the great stay. Everything was right: the food was very tasty, the selection was good and there was something for every taste, the waiter was very attentive and friendly, the atmosphere was cozy, later the fairy lights were turned on.

When you visit the Ruhr area or the city of Essen, you only eat here.

Ruhr area beer garden with celebration hall and interior. We were there for a big event, the service is great, the food is good, but focused on "food", vegan vegetarian is not possible at all or only the side dishes - strange.

As always, super delicious and the beer tastes fabulous.

Unfortunately, the quality of the food has rapidly deteriorated. Have been very disappointed twice already. The "changing" card is not an advantage.

A QUESTION OF HONOUR!!! The two pork schnitzels were so flattened that you could hardly find them between the breading. I've been here several times (for a beer), usually great service, great beer and great ambience, but this is what you should choose BE ASHAMED. I actually wanted to drink a second beer, but if the landlord is stingy, so am I. Unfortunately, the nice operation was also left empty-handed, but Sony made up for it.

Culinary absolute snot since the Corona period. Sausage salad for 13 ocks in a side dish portion. Cold currywurst. The veggie burger is hard to beat when it comes to creative listlessness. Only the delicious steam beer saves the store from its entrepreneurial butt. By the way, I used to be a regular customer.

Food cold or dried out. Despite pre-ordering, there were several messages back and forth from service staff who preferred younger guests in their area. When we finally got a seat, it took a while for the drinks to arrive. About 30 minutes the food order was taken again 30 minutes later. When the food came after an hour, the soups and side dishes were cold. Fish, sausages and onions are dried out and fried. 15 hungry people were more than disappointed. To pay you had to queue at the checkout for another 20 minutes. The service team responded to complaints with a big head and the succinct THANK YOU. WELL, THANK YOU FOR A SUCKING BEAUTIFUL EVENING.

Great restaurant with a cool old school brewery atmosphere. You can park your bike or car in the courtyard. The staff is attentive, friendly and accommodating. The menu is typical brewery and everyone should find something. If you like beer, you should definitely try the local varieties. You can even take these with you as bottle goods 👍🏻

Mother's Day brunch was OK but the price is too high

The price for the thick, coarse bratwurst is regularly increased by 1 euro: November 2023 €14.95, January 2024 €15.95, May 2024 €16.95. Soon you'll probably be at 20 euros. You can't accept that anymore!

I have been a guest at Dampfe for around 40 years. Especially in the last few years, the quality of the food has been decreasing year by year.

We ate at Dampfe a few weeks ago and were very satisfied, so we decided that we would celebrate our family dinner there with 11 people and 2 dogs. Said and done. So we personally reserved table number 19 in the corner. Now we got there yesterday and were seated at another table that we didn't like at all because it was very loud and in the middle of things. We had reserved a quiet table specifically because of the dogs. Well, we asked very politely several times why we couldn't get our reserved table. After a lot of back and forth, it turned out that the boss had given the table to his friends and we were just unlucky. Well, we had no other choice and stayed there. When we paid at the checkout afterwards, the order book was open for everyone to see and it said that we had reserved table number 19. That's not possible, so we'll be celebrating our next family celebrations somewhere else.

Good place to relax and have something hearty to eat and drink. We really liked it 😊.

Extremely cozy and a meeting place for the young and the young at heart. With home-brewed beer and a clever menu, time always goes by far too quickly.

This is an address that deserves a DETOUR in Essen! Traditional recipes that are so tasty and hearty. Impeccable, fast and efficient service. We may not recommend the desserts. The beer formula, beer dishes and more beer is great :))

Went there for dinner last night with 16 people. Drinks were received quickly and food was ordered with a 15 minute difference between table 1 and table 2. Table 2 had their food after about half an hour, table 1 with 8 people was completely forgotten! Inquiries after about 1.5 hours of waiting, around 9 p.m., were answered by the steam staff with the words that it was full and that we should chill out and with the utmost friendliness. Sorry: none! Conclusion: I lost my appetite, paid for drinks and had a delicious meal somewhere else. Damn, never again with this qualified and extremely polite staff….

April 20, 2024 wasn't the first time I was in the Dampfe, but it will be the last time. We were a group of 15 people and had reserved the table about 4 weeks in advance. The first negative, we didn't have a contiguous table, but I emphasized this when ordering the table. In the evening the barrel was well overflowing. The service, a Mr. M., took up the food. Our neighboring table ordered a long time after us, their food came relatively quickly and we were looking forward to our food if it had come... we waited over 1½ hours for our food. We asked Mr. M. several times about our food. The answer was always "5 more minutes" which was exceeded more than 4 times. 2 couples had enough and after 1½ hours they went for dinner 2nd time. Hiring Keller, Mr. M., as a service person was probably a mistake. He was very cheeky and even insulted us. There wasn't even an apology... Never this store again!!!!!
