Köz Ocakbasi in Hamburg

We were hungry after the concert and decided to have a snack. What can I say - I have never eaten a more tasteless doner! Firstly, we were deceived - we ordered meat, and they gave us falafel, but they took the money as for meat. Since we ordered takeaway, we discovered the deception at the hotel... Okay, they cheated with the filling, but it was also tasteless - the sauce and salad were without salt. Just disgusting. It’s a shame that I will now remember Hamburg like this

Ordered doner durum and lahmacun. They heard "falafel in brot", we did correct them TWICE asking for durum doner. At home we discovered that they gave us falafel in bread for the price of doner durum. Not the best service after 20 mins of wait

Even though it wasn't busy on a Monday, no one came to serve me. Really bad service. An absolute no-go for me. This has to definitely get better. Then you also have the opportunity to say something about the food.

An absolute must for lovers of authentic Turkish cuisine! The Adana Kebap, especially the spicy version, is highly recommended and a real culinary delight. The tea is of excellent quality and the service is extremely attentive and friendly. The fresh salads and the variety of sauces are simply delicious and round off the meal perfectly. An all-round successful visit to Köz Ocakbasi – I’ll definitely be back!

The Turkish restaurant Köz Ocakbaşı, centrally located on the stone dam, has built a good reputation over the years. Unfortunately the situation has changed since a recent change in ownership. While the location remains optimal, the quality of the food has noticeably deteriorated. My most recent visit was disappointing: I ordered a soup that had hardly any pieces of meat and tasted very watery. This was a marked departure from the previous, rich and flavorful dishes I was used to. The staff also didn't help improve the experience. They seemed involuntary and not very friendly, which had a negative impact on the entire atmosphere. It seemed like the team was working under duress which affected the service. In addition, I was not served tea after my meal, although this is common in Turkish restaurants and I used to always enjoy it here. Overall, my visit to Köz Ocakbaşı was disappointing. The central location remains a plus point, but the quality of the food and service urgently need to be improved to build on previous successes.

Right off the bat, the food tasted great, and I loved the fresh bread provided at the table. The chicken was delicious, thanks to the charcoal grill. However, I found there was less meat on the chicken and more bone, and the wait time was quite long, around 30-40 minutes. The staff were friendly, although communication was a bit challenging due to the language barrier, but we managed in the end. For €18, I don't think the meal was great value, despite the good taste.

I ate Adana wrap, it's a good kebab for Germany. But for 14 euros, the wrap seemed a bit expensive.

The veal tastes like foot and my girlfriend doesn't want to finish her kebab box. That means I/we have eaten better kebabs and kebab boxes that were way better.

The place is in a very good location, but it is very lacking in terms of cleanliness and professional work. If the deficiencies are corrected, it can be a very high-quality place. The advantage is that it is prepared to order over fire, which you cannot find anywhere in Germany.

The two of us were there yesterday. We got a table straight away even though the restaurant was busy. We were served quickly. The food came pretty quickly. We really liked the atmosphere and the service. The food was super tasty and still very hot because it came straight from the grill.

We got there on time with a reservation and even pre-ordered food. But we still had really bad service and our food came last! The food was cold. When you complained, you were suddenly offered to make it right..!! Never again. We were the first and received last.

We went to Köz Ocakbasi for dinner and it was super delicious! The meat is freshly cooked over the charcoal grill. Nice atmosphere and attentive and friendly service. To be recommended! We will be back.

After a very, very long wait, I was FINALLY here today. I've heard a lot of positive things about this restaurant and thought I'd go ahead with this visit. I have tried some strong Turkish restaurants. And what should I say!? I can definitely confirm this positive 100%. Friendly welcome, cool atmosphere with seating where you can even watch the chef. The menu - typically Turkish - of course had a variety of choices. Standard price, as usual. Approx. 45€ for 2 people + drinks. I chose the classic "Adana Kebap". SUPERIOR meat quality!! Beforehand we were given a generous starter consisting of bread, the typical classic dips/sauces and, surprisingly for me personally, a special bread that was actually like Turkish pizza! Taste A+!! Great bread, great dips and delicious salad. Like I mentioned: This was definitely incredibly good. I have rarely eaten such a delicious Adana Kebap. If I have two small things to criticize, it's the fact that the portion of the main course was a bit too small compared to the starter and no larger drinks were available (only 0.2/0.3l), but that's whining very high level. I still give full marks and say “tesekkür” 😂🙏🏼 See you soon!🙏🏼

Excessive prices - €7 for a large fries are simply too much, especially when they are dripping with fat and carelessly prepared.

Staff is friendly. The rooms are functional, not cozy. The quail were good. The price at EUR 20 is still reasonable.

Small portions - high prices. It doesn't taste good either. Rude disinterested waiters. No please and no thank you. The first email at the restaurant was no tip because the food and service weren't worth it. I'm definitely not coming back.

Food is prepared right in front of you

Der Kellner ist zuvorkommend. Das Essen hat geschmeckt. War aber zu wenig. Die gegrillte Paprika war kalt. Der Dürum ist mit 14€ viel zu teuer. Es war mein teuerster Dürum. Der Dürum Preis wurde um 40% erhöht. Von 10€ auf 14€. Das Efes Bier steht mit 4€ in der Speisekarte. Abgerechnet wurde 4,50€. In der Nähe gibt es bessere und günstigere Restaurants. Leider nicht wieder.

Heel gastvrij. En je kunt er tot na 1:30 in de nacht nog eten.

Ich bin immer sehr gerne hier essen. Es ist eine super qualität zu super Preisen. Ich sitze mit Kunden oft hier. Es ist wirklich alles super. Der Ort ist etwas kritisch aber dafür Zentral. Wir kommen immer wieder gerne Danke an das Team

Sehr nettes zuvorkommendes Personal. Türkisches Essen vom feinsten :) Hier wird Gastfreundschaft gross geschrieben.

Das Essen wird frisch zubereitet und schmeckt sehr Lecker. Das Personal ist super nett. Die Ambiente ist nicht luxuriös aber es herrscht eine familiäre Atmosphäre.

Essen okay..aber überteuert. Man fühlt sich nicht wirklich willkommen. Kaum hat man aufgegessen, werden die Teller weggerissen...Laute und hektische Kellner. Keine Karten zahlung angeboten ! Keine Begrüßung ...kein Auf Wiedersehen...

Die Preise sind eine Frechheit für das was man bekommt. Wenig essen für den hohen Preis. Ein Adana Teller mit EINEM Adana Spieß kostet fast 20€! Ein einfaches trockenes mini Dürüm mit 4/5 Stückchen Hähnchenfleisch und etwas Salat drin kostet satte 14€! Die Kellner waren nicht wirklich freundlich, diesen Part hat dafür aber der Chef übernommen. Das Lokal ist aber sehr sauber. Würde ich trotzdem nicht nochmal besuchen.

Hope that this restaurant treat their staff good. Didn't get time to ask more details about the working condition, rest etc about the staff.

Bin heute erneut 1 jahr nach seit meinem letzten Aufenthalt in Hamburg wieder hier gewesen, und es war einfach unverändert der beste Dürüm den ich bisher gegessen habe, dafür 5 Sterne und ein freundliches Dankeschön an den Inhaber.

They serve food skewers not iron skewers because we go to restaurant to eat meat with iron skewers it is different taste. The most important thing is that they discriminate against customers . they serve iron skewers of meat to daily customers and we are tourists they served grill sticks plus they served an old tzatziki that stood outside next to the grill for several hours because it was hot plus the kebab was half cooked from the inside and it was burnt from the outside. just because we were tourists and we are from sweden I do not recommend ...

The food was competent Turkish BBQ type stuff, nothing outstanding compared to Turkish food we've had in Britain. The waiting staff were friendly with the people who were obviously the regulars, chatting and laughing with them, shaking hands as they left etc. but they treated us like a fart in a spacesuit, clearly no time for us and no interest in being even remotely welcoming. They did absolutely nothing to stop us being harassed at our table by the street beggars. It seems they're only really interested in the business for their local pals and having to serve outsiders is just an annoyance so I'm guessing they'll be happy to get poor reviews like this if it helps keep the tourists away.

Selten so gut türkisch gegessen. Die Linsensuppe ein Hochgenuss. Salat und Cacik als Beigabe hervorragend und frisch zubereitet. Das Lammfilet mit Bulgur und einer gegrillten Peperoni zerging auf der Zunge. Ein ganz großes Dankeschön an den Grillmeister und die Bedienung.

Wir waren spontan mit der Familie in HH und wollten gerne echt türkisch essen. Das haben wir hier geschafft. Freundliche Bedienung, Essen wurde sehr schnell serviert und war lecker. Ausstattung ist etwas in die Jahre gekommen, aber ok.

Stedet ligger i steindammen. Som er lidt ala Istedgade / Nørrebro. Fyldt med udenlandske butikker. Her iblandt en masse grill steder. Har spist hos köz for første gang 4 år siden og igen idag. Det bare perfekt alle gange.

Posto estremamente spartano nel cuore del quartiere turco saint Georg. Sgombriamo subito il campo: chi è abituato con camerieri con i guanti bianchi lasci proprio perdere. Per chi invece non bada alle apparenze e punta a mangiare una ottima cucina turca è il posto ideale. Carne eccellente e ben speziata contorni di verdure salsette e pane pita. The finale offerto. Il servizio è stato veloce. Alla fine è un po’ come negli ospedali italiani: se non rompi e ti affidi vieni servito al meglio. Non è un posto per rompiscatole con le fisime insomma ma verrete ripagati. Nessuna arsura e digerito tutto alla grande. Comunque, al di là delle apparenze, la carne è tenuta in maniera accurata dentro espositori frigo moderni e puliti.

Gemütliches Restaurant auch für Familien geeignet. Vorspeise gibt es, wie immer Cacik oder Paprika Menüs sind für das was man bekommt überteuert. 14€ für Beyti Kebab, was in wirklichkeit nur ein Urfa Kebab ist. Getränke 2,50€ für 0,2l Cola, allerdings in Glas was ich super finde. Zur Nachspeise gab es Künefe für 5€, mir wurde dieser empfohlen aber so richtig rausschmecken konnte ich es nicht. Zu Anfang sehr heiss dann wurde es sehr schnell kalt. Tee gab es umsonst. Nette Bedienung, sauber leider auf den Toilletten kein Papier zum Händeabwischen.

War mit einem befreundeten Geschäftspartner/Freund und seinen Freunden dort. Wer ECHT TÜRKISCH essen mag, ist hier VOLLKOMMEN RICHTIG! War wie in Besuchen von Istanbul. Zwar nicht Geruchsfrei, jedoch sicherlich nicht Geschmacksfrei. Und das ist die Hauptsache, oder? Thumbs UP!

Wanted to sample some authentic Turkish food whilst in Hamburg and chose Koz Ocakbasi based on a mix of the Trip Advisor reviews and the fact that it was busy with locals - always a good sign. We have lately fell in love with Turkish food and during our 3 night holiday we stumbled across Köz Ocakbasi. After reading a mix of reviews (80% good) we thought we would try it. IT WAS AMAZING. Though the waiter struggled with our English he was incredibly helpful and polite pointing out good dishes (the menu came with pictures which was helpful) and giving us the thumbs up or the maybe sign on certain dishes. Don’t be scared off by the non English menu, it’s 100% worth it. One of the locals even pointed out that this was the best Turkish restaurant in Hamburg. Thank you Dan and Becca
