Today, we went to Eberbach Monastery in beautiful weather and ate in the monastery tavern. After looking at the menu online, I was curious to see how the roast pork with potato gratin and carrots would taste. But I was sadly disappointed. The gratin was lukewarm, the roast pork wasn't crusty but rubbery, and the sauce was, well, "a touch of light." Additionally, the plate was crusty and dirty on the underside. When the server asked me if everything was okay while clearing the food, I answered accordingly, which bothered me. His reply was that since the plate had been eaten, it couldn't have been that bad. At every other restaurant or many pubs, they ask after a few minutes if everything was okay, but not here. I didn't see a waiter during the time I was eating that I could have spoken to. Actually, given the prices, I expect to be asked, not have to chase after the waiter. This was my first and last visit to this place, and I can't recommend it to anyone.

Overpriced. The "Rheingau Platter" was delivered incomplete. Only upon inquiry was it pointed out that "the Spundekäs was out." And this in the Spundekäs Center Rheingau! Edit: Eight years later, it was not possible to order two beers and a snack for outside. A laconic comment: "No. You can sit inside." In beautiful weather. Strange concept. Not recommended.

We had our company event yesterday after a tour at the Klosterschänke. Many of my colleagues sitting around me were disappointed, and we were all still hungry afterward. Starter: Riesling soup -> very strong Riesling flavor. Several plates were left unfinished. My main course was risotto -> unfortunately, not at all sloppy, but much too solid. Little flavor, 3 pieces of Parmesan cheese on top. Dessert: cheesecake -> that was delicious. The portion sizes were quite small; we were all still hungry and joked that we still had to go to McDonald's. The staff, given the setting, weren't particularly well-trained. The plates were placed roughly in front of us, and the food was cleared away roughly... Overall, one can say that there are so many better restaurants in the Rheingau; so after a tour, don't eat there, but drive to Eltville ♡

I left the Klosterschänke rather disappointed. I had the three course menu, which unfortunately failed to impress from start to finish. The first course, a Riesling soup, arrived curdled and entirely without flavour. The second course, an overcooked rump steak buried under an overwhelming mound of caramelised onions, was unpleasant both in taste and texture. The final dish, a chocolate panna cotta, was acceptable yet unremarkable and left no lasting impression. The service was equally unsatisfying. The management of orders is confusing, as only one waiter is apparently responsible for taking them. This is not explained to guests, which leads to awkward situations where other staff members simply dismiss requests. Even ordering a glass of water became a challenge when the request was addressed to the wrong person. In short, the Klosterschänke offers subpar pub style food in what could otherwise be a wonderful location.

We spent an evening at the Klosterschänke as part of a birthday celebration. The ambiance of Eberbach Monastery is naturally unique and beautiful, which is why we were all the more excited about the culinary experience. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the high expectations raised by the website's slogan "Cistercian Cuisine – Modernly Interpreted." The reality on the plate was unfortunately different from the professional photos. Appetizer: The Riesling soup was unfortunately curdled and tasted very bland and unimaginative. Main Course: This impression continued with the main course, a rump steak. The dish was also lightly seasoned and appeared overall unloving and uninspired. Dessert: The dessert was okay and the only bright spot on the menu. The service and the setting also dampened the evening. For our larger group, we had to decide in advance on just one of three possible menus, which we found rather inflexible. A long table is only partially suitable for a convivial gathering, and the ventilation in the dining room was inadequate that evening. It was particularly disappointing that drink requests weren't proactively requested between courses. In conclusion: The beautiful historic ambiance unfortunately couldn't compensate for the significant weaknesses in the cuisine and service. Given the price and the standards of the establishment, this was a disappointing experience. There's plenty of room for improvement here.

From the terrace, you have a beautiful view of the monastery and the vineyards. The hand cheese with music was delicious, as was the bread and dips. Unfortunately, the schnitzel was mushy and not crispy. The potato salad served with it wasn't homemade. Despite moderate activity, it took a long time for the plates to be collected, even though they were full of wasps.

On nice days, you'll have to plan on waiting a bit for a table. After about 20 minutes, we had a table and were seated in the beautiful Eberbach monastery area. The service was very friendly and attentive, despite the large number of guests. The food was good, but you can tell that a lot of cooking is done each day, so the value for money isn't quite right. The monastery and the wine remain popular with us, though, and we're not out of the question.

The Klosterschänke Eberbach is situated at the foot of the impressive medieval Kloster Eberbach, surrounded by its own vineyards. Upon entering, the atmosphere in the robust dining room is striking: thick, centuries-old walls that retain both the coolness in summer and the warmth in winter, and here and there the soft glow of wrought iron chandeliers. The menu mainly features locally produced dishes and vegetables from the monastery garden. As a fresh starter, they served a white asparagus salad with a light vinaigrette; through it, the crispy, still slightly crunchy asparagus attracted attention. The main course consisted of lukewarm salmon trout, subtly seasoned and accompanied by wild herbs from the garden around the monastery. With it, they matched it with a glass of their own Riesling, dry and with a hint of apple and stone fruit, as you would expect from a monastic vineyard. The staff is attentive and polite, without the service feeling forced. The prices remain affordable, especially considering the quality of the cuisine and location. Afterwards, guests can take a walk through the historic monastery garden, where the well-preserved ruins and the surrounding greenery tell the story of the centuries-old wine tradition. The Klosterschänke Eberbach is not only a culinary stop, but also an experience in a historical setting.

Food is good but not exceptional. We were there on a hot and sunny day in June 2025. We asked for a table inside (guaranteed shade, cooler), but were told that they only had tables outside. The inside area was completely closed. For non-Germans that were part of our group that was a strange situation... Luckily, most of their table in the outside area have shade, but sitting in 30plus degrees Celsius is not to everybody's liking... Service was somewhat slow despite the restaurant not being overly busy, and meals for the four of us were served with big gaps.

We visited the Klosterschänke first in the afternoon and then for dinner, and the service and food were truly excellent both times. We actually sampled the menu throughout the day and can ultimately recommend every dish without reservation. Whether it was the Klosterbrot (monastery bread), the lukewarm asparagus salad, the marinated salmon fillet, the Vittelo Tonnato (a kind of sardine), or the asparagus soup, everything was delicious and beautifully presented. The main courses, however, were also beyond reproach, with the schnitzel and beef cheeks! We also found the value for money to be excellent every time, especially considering the portion size, including the schnitzel. Therefore, I cannot agree with the criticism in a previous review. The crème brûlée rounded off the very good impression. We will gladly return!

We went to the Klosterschänke again at Easter, after a break of a few years, and were really excited…. We have rarely eaten such a delicious pike perch - excellent and compliments to the kitchen! All other dishes were also very good. Overall, we really liked the whole atmosphere, the wine was very good and the service was friendly and attentive. We'd love to come back!

The prices are simply too high. Almost €6 for filtered Brita water? A small soup for 11 €... I just don't think it was justified, because it was tasty, but not excellent either. The child's food (Pasta Bolognese) was significantly too peppery; even the adults found it quite spicy. If there is already a children's menu, it should also be child-friendly.

If you suffer from a food allergy, don't believe the waiter's first response. Ask the waiter to ask the cook. It happened to me, that although I asked the waiter three times if my dish contained any pork, he denied three times that it had any pork in it. But I found out too late that it did.

After an extensive tour of the monastery, we stopped at the monastery tavern for lunch. We had the spinach dumplings with champions and the duck breast on salsify with potato fritters. My wife was thrilled with the dumplings, rightly so, and the duck breast was a real poem... I could have loved the chef for it. 🥰Absolutely fantastic 👏😋 With a glass of well-chilled Eberbach Riesling off-dry, the day was a complete success. The price-performance ratio was completely satisfactory and the service was very friendly and courteous. Great restaurant in great surroundings. 👏

Unfortunately, the many negative reviews are justified and hardly need any additions. Another tip, check your bill carefully before you pay. In our case, the waiter (orally) inserted a number turner when paying (I'm not assuming this was intentional, but I'm not ruling it out either), which led to an even larger tip. Checked against the written invoice that I requested after paying.

Unfortunately, we can no longer recommend a visit to this restaurant! We have been regular guests at the Rheingau Music Festival for many years. The ambience and warm atmosphere of the monastery tavern as well as the friendliness of the staff always rounded off the concert enjoyment. Unfortunately, during several stays we discovered that this was all a thing of the past since the change in restaurant management this summer. With the exception of a few, the friendly, warm and committed employees have been replaced by new personnel who obviously have to carry out their work within a working atmosphere that is noticeably designed for efficiency. It can happen, as happened to us, that while you are in the toilet, your chair is taken away from you by the restaurant manager himself. When my husband intervened and told him that it was his wife's chair, he simply replied that he shouldn't act like that! When we were cashed in without being asked on our next visit and the restaurant manager himself asked us to leave because our previous reservation had ended after 90 minutes (we had ordered several courses and the dishes only arrived after a long time), we decided As long as the business continues to operate under this management, we will refrain from further visits.

Bad service and prices too high for this quality. We waited over an hour for our food. Not once was we asked if we wanted something to drink or anything, even though it wasn't very crowded. Schnitzel 31 euros with very weak potato salad. For the veal cheeks with pumpkin risotta, the rice and pumpkin were still far too hard. Meat was good.

Not worth a visit. The service is underground. We were there around 2 p.m. Lots of places available and lots of staff. We were directed to sunbathing spots with the note: it was a music event... That's why the rear shaded area was kept clear (starts at 8 p.m.!!!) A cake order was rejected with the same comment... My assessment: our place was the shorter route for the staff, the order for drinks was taken twice, the specific order for the food (without vegetables) was completely ignored. The dishes were cleared away without asking whether we wanted to finish eating. The guest is disturbing here!!!! But there is another way, in the bistro area - friendly self-service - the staff is friendly and very accommodating. Thanks to this team, they brightened our day with a smile when we said goodbye.

Our assessment is divided into two parts, as the location has shown two faces. On the first evening there was good, even very good food. The young man in service was friendly and competent. On the second evening they were not willing to serve us inside. Although we clearly justified our request, we were repeatedly informed that service would only be served outside. Since the outdoor area was very busy because of a concert, there was no longer any need to be hospitable. Too bad... The Klosterschänke suffers a little from the fact that visitors flock before concerts, but then they no longer have time to eat what they have ordered in peace. The waiter with the east european accent refused to talk about the wine specialties by saying:"Kucken Sie selbst in die Karte..." and tried to tell me that "Kaffee mit Milch" does not exist:"Das ist doch dann ein cappuchino!" Look, it's probably the first time he ever served in a much better establishment, but what really ruined the experience for me was knowing that I use to have an amazing time here. What my family and I got was an underwhelming, low quality, terrible presentation of food, that makes a dark cabin in the woods at night feel more welcoming.

Beautiful location but the service I wasn't impressed with. A wasp went in our drink and they didn't offer to replace it. When they handed our meal, there were no cutlery, so I had to get it myself. The schnitzel was dry. They should offer gravy with it and the chips. Disappointed for the price 😞

It used to be better. Salad was partly brown. Meat sausage totally watered down. Potato salad isn't what it used to be either. The currywurst was also made with chopped tomatoes. And prices are simply too high for such small portions and quality.

The service was very questionable. We were questioned why we as a group wanted to order water again when it was 32 degrees. Some of us had ordered cauliflower steak. What we got were flower florets tossed in barbecue sauce and had nothing to do with steak shape or anything like that. Let alone with lime and chilli. It would also be great to declare this on the menu that curry hummus is served with it. Unfortunately, the name totally missed it. The rosemary potatoes apparently only saw the rosemary out the window. Others of us had pasta with pesto. It's a shame that the pesto was used so sparingly that the dish was completely dry. Spring onions had no place there either. It would also have been nice if Parmesan cheese had also been served. The dessert of strawberry salad with sour apple ice cream was unfortunately not beautifully presented, but the ice cream was very tasty, hence the 1 point. Service definitely needs to be trained. It can't be that you're just being reached over your plate or being bumped into. You can politely ask if you can clear it away. Sorry but for such an ambience and actually fine cuisine absolutely lacking today.

We had Duroc cutlet with wild broccoli. Very tasty, meat tender but with a fatty edge, which is due to Duroc and is not a problem. Broccoli fried crispy, but everything was quite expensive at €32.50. Wine extremely expensive and nothing special.

It wasn't our first time here and, unlike our last visit, we were pleasantly surprised. The monastery beer was at the right temperature and the food was good. Prices have risen everywhere and here too. The 11th generation is really no longer inexpensive for our taste, but it worked in the Klosterschänke Eberbach. We had roast beef and a hand cheese tartare. Both dishes are recommended. The tastiest hand cheese variant for a long time. Service was good and very nice.

Very nice atmosphere, most of the dishes looked delicious, but the ham with my asparagus was a disaster. The raw ham was OK, but the cooked ham was never from a local butcher. Maybe it ran out over the long weekend and was replaced with the cheapest industrial ham that I don't even know from discount stores. Perfectly round slices of obviously molded meat with cartilage, a disgrace for the price and the demands.

We took a break here during our hike. Unfortunately all the seats were reserved and empty for a long time! We still managed to get a table on the edge. Unfortunately, the waitresses are not very friendly - with a few exceptions. The food prices are slightly high, but it's worth it. With two people it was still within limits

We were probably just unlucky. It was well attended and very, very loud. Uncomfortable, unfortunately. The starter, the bread with three dips, was also boring, even though the bread was already tasty. It wasn't the dips. The hummus was bland, the tomato cream cheese was convinient and the date curry spread was a simple Thermomix standard. A pity.

We were here for lunch on Monday. The restaurant was very busy and it was very nice that we could sit outside. The service is very nice and attentive. The menu is clear, which is a very positive criterion for us. We had the hand cheese salad and the roast beef with green sauce as starters and then the trout and the Schlutzkrapfen as main courses. Everything was very nicely prepared and the portions were completely sufficient. The Pinot Blanc was extremely tasty. A successful Monday.

It was a wonderful end to the day after the alpaca hike. We were just able to correct that the waiter had picked up the wrong wine. Sparkling wine as an aperitif, schnitzel, cutlet and veal fillet were our main courses. Wild garlic soup, hand cheese tartare and roast beef carpaccio were the start of the menu. We'd love to come back, even if the 80km journey is a challenge.

The service was terrible. We had to wait for half an hour to order our food and about the same time to get the bill. And that’s although there were a lot of staff members on site. The fish was bland and the price not justified. I was very disappointed, especially since I always enjoyed coming here, but it seems like the owner of the place has changed and since then all has started to go downhill.

The Klosterschänke Eberbach is a truly charming and historic inn, located amidst the picturesque surroundings of the Eberbach monastery. When I visited, I was immediately captivated by the welcoming atmosphere and rustic ambience. The restaurant impresses not only with its historical significance, but also with its diverse menu, which includes traditional German dishes as well as regional specialties. The quality of the food was excellent, freshly prepared and served with attention to detail. The staff was extremely accommodating and friendly, which made my stay even more enjoyable. The service was attentive and helpful without being intrusive. I was particularly impressed by the wine selection, which offered a wide range of exquisite wines from the region. The staff's recommendations were spot-on and pampered my taste buds. All in all, my visit to the Klosterschänke Eberbach was a completely successful experience. I can recommend this inn to anyone looking for a unique dining experience in a historic setting.

Beautifully located right on the Rhine with good wine. I can't say anything about the food; we only enjoyed drinks in a very nice place.

Everything here is just as you'd expect from a winery! Rustic interiors, with the highlight of a courtyard lined with arcades. Nothing compares to a traditional wine tavern. Excellent regional wines by the glass and beautifully prepared dishes, including seasonal specials, are available on the notice board. Reservations are always welcome. The Handkäs mit Musik (traditional cheese with music) is, of course, always delicious.

Unfortunately, the food arrived cold. The reason given was that it had been sitting for too long because we had been moved to another table! The food also came very quickly, which made me a little suspicious. I wonder if it's freshly cooked or air-fried?! The flavor lacked a certain oomph for me, but it could be better. It's a very nice restaurant with tasteful decor...a real shame.
