Kleiner Ratskeller in Bremen

You really can't complain about the food; it's very tasty and the portions are generous. Unfortunately, what led me to give this poor rating are the prices. A 0.3l beer and a 0.4l Spezi each cost €5.90, and the dishes with Knipp (a kind of sauerkraut) for €24.90 and Kutterscholle (a kind of plaice) for €29.90 are quite steep. We also got the Bremen Card for our visit to Bremen (highly recommended), which advertises a 10% discount at the small Ratskeller. The man in charge of the restaurant didn't know it and denied it, saying, "We don't have anything like that here."

Very tasty food and average service. Unfortunately, it was overpriced, so we wouldn't go back.

Small restaurant near Böötcherstrasse. It was advertised outside with “Offer of the week: Schnitzel Holstein €19.90. Also with “Sunday Schnitzel Day”. So we ordered - on a Sunday - a schnitzel Holstein and a Jägerschnitzel, which according to the offer should cost €19.90 each. When the bill came, the schnitzels cost €27.90, which is the regular price on the menu. We asked the waitress about it. The answer was that we didn't explicitly state when we ordered that we wanted the “offer schnitzel”. But we didn't say that we wanted the "Card Schnitzel", we simply ordered two schnitzels. The comment that in this case the guests should be made aware of the difference was met with excuses. Otherwise, the schnitzels at the neighboring tables (schnitzels were ordered at all tables) didn't look any different. There was therefore de facto no difference between the card and the offer. From my point of view, there is a certain system behind it... The portions were good, I would describe the quality as normal. The price of €19.90 would have been appropriate, but it's not worth €27.90. Drink prices are also above average. There are better alternatives in Bremen. It may be the business strategy to exempt guests once, but it would probably be smarter to rely on sustainably satisfied guests. In any case, for us it was our first and certainly our last visit there.

Had kale with pee. The kale was slightly sour, the potatoes were too watery. The Kassler is very robust. Unfortunately, the food got cold very quickly because the plates weren't warmed up. The service was very friendly and attentive at first, but later I was left high and dry. The waitress almost had to be forced to pay. The price/performance ratio is not good. Beer at Oktoberfest level. Kale is expensive, but the presentation doesn't quite match the price.

Wir haben den kleinen Ratskeller in Bremen besucht und waren insgesamt zufrieden. Die Atmosphäre ist gemütlich, und das historische Ambiente verleiht dem Lokal einen besonderen Charme. Der Bremer Pannfisch mit Senfsauce hat uns gut geschmeckt – frisch zubereitet und schön angerichtet. Die Portion war ausreichend, und die Beilagen haben gut dazu gepasst. Der Service war freundlich und aufmerksam, ohne aufdringlich zu sein. Insgesamt ein angenehmer Besuch. Wir können das Restaurant für ein traditionelles norddeutsches Essen empfehlen.

Food and drinks are unreasonably expensive. I think a 0.3L beer for €5.50 is cheeky!

The food was delicious. However, we had to wait for all the food (sorry as only one chef), drinks and bill. Sometimes give notice multiple times. And even if everything gets more expensive, a wedding soup for €11.90 is beyond the scope

Very friendly female service but completely overpriced. Portion labskaus of the quality well - size / quantity like a starter but very expensive - steak medium ordered came through - tight max almost 20 euros - drinks prices outrageous - it's no fun - not recommended// in addition the toilets are rocky - Heating broken - ambience? Still New Year's Eve decorations - sorry, all no-go...

I had Knipp (€24.90) on the recommendation of the waitress. The portion was decent and the quality was also good. Probably one of the best but also one of the most expensive in the city. It's interesting that an original "poor people's meal" now costs almost €25. And the beer prices are higher than at Oktoberfest or even in Switzerland. The price for 40 cl of beer is a whopping €6.90, which corresponds to a price for 1/2 liter of beer of €8.60. I can drink beer cheaper in Switzerland. The menu lists everything that has become more expensive in recent years. I can understand it too, but I cannot explain a price increase of over 40% compared to other restaurants in the old town of Bremen for food AND drinks. And especially when it comes to drinks, the restaurant next door is the same beer from the same brewery as here.

What a deception. It looks very nice from the outside. But rude and disinterested service. One dish was way too salty and the other tasteless. We were asked to pay before the end of our visit because there was a staff change.

Nice and cosy atmosphere. Very nice waiter, but did not speak English, which made it very difficult to communicate. Does not have a children's menu. The dish we ordered for the children was full of pepper, and they hardly ate it. Suitable for adults only.

Dinner on December 26th accompanied. Unfortunately, it wasn't such a nice visit. But at the beginning. I reserved a table by phone. I wanted to go at 8 p.m. because I was at the theater before then. The friendly gentleman pushed for 7:30 p.m., which was already very tight for us. Of course at this time everyone would like to occupy the tables several times, but as it turned out the restaurant was only 50% full. So why put pressure on two people? I will say in advance that I have eaten there several times. The fried potatoes are usually great and the schnitzel is also very good. Yesterday there was plaice for me and my companion. A proud price for 32.90. My expectations were already high. What actually happened was disappointing. A plate with a manageable plaice that was not properly prepared on the edge. The edges are cut off in good kitchens. Only then would one have seen at first glance that this floe would have been even smaller. To be honest, the reference to Bode on the menu is not a predicate after this meal. It wasn't cleaned well and my companion noticed that the headboard wasn't clean either. Lemon is actually extra, so the guest can decide for themselves whether they want to use it or not. Here lemon juice (not fresh) was most likely used on both sides, which was not okay with us as we don't use lemon on fish and so the taste dominated before the plaice. The fish was well fried, the meat was juicy. The only thing that didn't really come through for us was the taste. The speck of bacon wasn't really enough for it to be mentioned separately. The fried potatoes were good, quite a few but they were cooked way too dark, some of them black. Finally, a comment on the drink prices. 5.90 euros for a 0.3 liter of Kräusen beer takes your breath away. I just checked again to see what other locations were taking, i.e. d. Typically you get 0.5 liters for this. The service was attentive and the food came within a timely manner. But the prices are not appropriate, with all my love, for 32.90 I would have expected that there would have been fried potatoes in a separate bowl and a salad also on a separate plate, instead of manageable leaves, a tomato and onions do not belong in a side salad. In addition to the technical weaknesses in cooking, the plaice for this price was simply too small for the price level shown. I've eaten in the small Ratskeller twice this year, but I'll be staying away for a while before I give it another chance. That just didn't resonate with me. Despite the reasonable ambience and good service, I only got two points in the overall rating because the food really annoyed me. I would classify the whole thing as a tourist scam, but unfortunately I'm not a tourist, I'm from Bremen.

Friendly, clean, food very tasty 😋

We wanted to eat there with our NeoTaste voucher. We were then told that this didn't apply today because there was so much going on that they could occupy the table like that. You can't misuse the app as an advertising platform and then decide whether it's valid today, contrary to the applicable voucher conditions. This is absolutely unfair, unfriendly and dubious.

Very cozy atmosphere, we had kale for food. It was tasty and filling, but the half piece of smoked pork was more like molded meat and not smoked pork neck. Overall, unfortunately, significantly too expensive compared to other, similar restaurants in Bremen. The plate of kale with 1 cooked sausage, 1 pee, 5 potatoes and 1/2 piece of smoked pork for €28.50. You can get the same thing (also in terms of quantity and quality) for less than €20 elsewhere. Unfortunately it put us off a bit.

Well, I can only rate the service. Saturday, December 7th, 2024, it was very crowded early in the evening. The waitress came up to us and asked if we had reserved. Nope, it was a spontaneous visit. She was so friendly and brought us to a large table with the note that there would be 4 more guests. I didn't mind, we took a seat. The guests in question came, the card came and the guests left after 2 minutes. We were alone at the table when a gentleman came and said: "Such a good table for two people, that's not possible." We were allowed to get up and leave. We did too.

Eten was prima, maar we werden weggekeken. We hebben nog koffie kunnen bestellen, maar er werd erbij gezegd dat we over 10 min weg moesten. We zaten er net een uur en 15 min! Rare gang van zaken..

This was my third time eating there, twice with a friend and now with my wife. I love the cozy atmosphere of a bygone era and the good atmosphere in the restaurant, although it can get a little louder, it is always well filled. Reservations are worth it 👍. The menu is clear and the ingredients used are fresh and crunchy... a solid selection of local dishes (the beef roulade with boiled potatoes and apple red cabbage... 👌). Two men are thrilled... at least my wife is happy 😁... I will definitely be there again on my next stay in Bremen. Regarding the missing 🌟 in the service... they are very friendly and attentive and worth a decent tip, but the narrowness of the restaurant, which makes it so quaint and cozy, unfortunately hinders the service... I'm happy with that.

A cozy place that is loud and lively during the holidays. In most cases the food looks homemade. Prices are a little higher than other establishments, but the atmosphere is worth it. The portions are huge, and as far as the taste goes, it's quite good - even for an amateur of German cuisine.

Horrible kitchen, broken dishes, freezing cold because the door was wide open. Food smelled and was rotten. After the complaint, the neck steak was barely cooked through. My portion of fish was barely to be found on the plate. As Bremen, we have different memories of the restaurant. Never again!!!

The food was quite good :) classic German cuisine (home cooking) - however, we came with Neotaste and they didn't want to accept it at first, but you could book it and I was pretty confused about it. I found that very unfriendly. Then they shouldn't register there if they don't want people from there. I also think the prices are very high for what you get in the end.

Very hungry, we spontaneously returned to the small Ratskeller. The service seemed a bit lackluster and impersonal. We were surprised when the gentlemen at the next table warned us that they didn't like the food. Later we understood why. Unfortunately, for €25 per dish we were disappointed. Matjes and fried potatoes were quite greasy, didn't taste very fresh and were too salty. Labskaus was okay, the herring didn't taste good enough for the price. It's a shame, because the rustic ambience combined with delicious food would have made you want to linger. Overall not recommended.

From the outside the place looks really quaint and inviting. Unfortunately, frozen goods are used and that cannot be the aim of a restaurant. The prices are completely unreasonable for the quality of the food.

Ambience great, food flop. With the fried potatoes and fried egg there were old börek sticks without asking. Apparently the fried potatoes were running out. Schnitzel Holstein were frozen turkey schnitzels from the convectomat. At least there was a schnapps (€5.90) ​​on the house as “compensation” for the whole group. It's better to avoid the kitchen and just drink.

Never eaten such a salty and inedible schnitzel for so much money!! Supposedly it comes from some slaughterhouse already seasoned and breaded... it's just thrown into the pan and fried, according to the waiter... and for machine-made schnitzel it's 27.50 euros. Never again!!!

All the food was heated, we ordered expensive fish dishes with mashed potatoes and a second one with potatoes, if you tried heated potatoes at home, it tasted exactly the same, only the oil was old, and the fish was dry due to heating, just the centerpiece. But the food for the children is ok (they ate: French fries and pasta) The drinks are ok, except cappuccino, which isn’t very good either. I don't recommend it!

We were looking for something for dinner and ended up in the small Ratskeller. We saw the size of the portions at the next table (generous) and therefore only ordered two meals for 4 people (2 adults and 2 children): tartare and schnitzel. The prices were reasonable, but I'm happy to pay that for good quality. The drinks prices are a disgrace: €4 for 0.2l Fanta, €4 for 0.25l water, €8 for a 0.25l wine spritzer and €6 for 0.4l beer. This catapulted the total bill for 2 meals and 4 drinks to over €70. This almost borders on highway robbery and is the reason for the star deduction.

We were actually there relatively late and after a quick call everything worked out. A sample app was brought to us and we were warmly welcomed. Although the kitchen was more or less closed, food was spontaneously provided and we had a free choice of the menu (A La Cart) :) When the food was there, we were quite surprised by the portion, and the alternative (vegetarian) was also available super customized. I really liked the fish, it got to the point and the side dishes like baked potatoes and bacon went really well! The portion was very good (as can be seen from the picture). Recommendations go out. The atmosphere actually resembles an old Ratskeller, it's not really big, but it's cozy and enough. Of course everything seems a bit older, but we were completely happy with it :)!

Underground service! Reservation will not be honored! After our long journey to Bremen, we easily reserved a table by phone at 6 p.m. for 4 people to meet up with good friends over a good meal. At around 5:30 p.m. we received a call from the “Little Ratskeller” asking us to postpone our reservation to 6:30 p.m. Of course I agreed and postponed the appointment with our friends for half an hour. Unfortunately, the bad surprise came when we arrived at the “Little Ratskeller” at 6:30 p.m. "THERE IS NOT A FREE TABLE FOR 4!" was offered to me. “The best we could do is sit at a table that is much too small if those already sitting there agree.” - Beyond amazing (and outrageous)! - Was there a table for 4 available right in the entrance area like we reserved before!? Even after my emphatic request, it was not possible to take this table because it was finally reserved!? - That's probably the height of impudence. In the "Little Ratskeller" the guests are apparently classified when making reservations and accordingly you get a reserved table or not!? I understand that the catering industry is a "tough" industry and that you have to try to "sell" as many places as possible every day. However, an approach like this is underground! We, the guests in the catering industry, are also looking forward to a visit and a delicious meal with friends. Therefore, this was planned in advance with a reservation! Fortunately, this does not apply to the majority of catering establishments. The “Little Ratskeller” is obviously much more profit-oriented than customer-oriented! - It's a shame and therefore never again! Best regards A lost, disappointed guest and customer!

La peor comida que comimos en la ciudad. El almuerzo familiar también fue arruinado por un servicio súper lento. La traducción al inglés del menú es desastrosa. Cuando pedimos Hombro de cerdo resultó ser sarro crudo de carne de cerdo. Nuestro plato de carne en conserva era un puré de patota mezclado con sabor a carne en conserva. El plato de cangrejo vino con camarones en lugar de cangrejos. Y el servicio tomó más de 45 minutos a 1 hora. Solo comimos las Patota Fritas y salimos del restaurante con rabia y totalmente insatisfechos.

Good food, cozy restaurant, friendly staff

When we arrived 45 minutes after opening, there was no menu with additional dishes outside, nor was there any information from the waitress. The roulade wasn't to my taste, I also bit on cartilage or something similar. I had juice as a drink and the bill said spritzer. There were different prices on the menu. The waitress said everything cost the same. They were pretty hefty prices. There was no internet reception in the restaurant. I cannot recommend the restaurant.

Nice little traditional restaurant in the old city of Bremen. Menue offers a variety of regional dishes. Pannfischteller was nice but nothing special, Knippteller tasted deliciously. Roulades were good in taste and tender but far too dry. Rumpsteak was stringy and not enjoyable. Portions were big. Prices definitely too high for the quality offered. Atmosphere was ok, a bit stiff though. Staff was very friendly and efficient.

In a little walkway that intersects the famous Botcherstrasse, this little restaurant is worth finding. Excellent food, friendly and excellent service, and reasonable prices for the area. Close to several hotels and just steps from the market square.

When the weather is nice you like to sit outside. But a musty smell comes from the adjoining cellar, which makes you want to eat your food again. It doesn't smell, it smells like a drain or sewer. A pity. It could have been a nice evening. As for the food itself, there is nothing wrong with it. This was, if you ignore the smell, very good.

Becks on tap, excellent asparagus with juicy salmon and a portion size such that I had no room for dessert. It's the German equivalent of pub food and served with a smile by a waitress who speaks English but put up with my mediocre German

Small, cozy restaurant. The staff was very friendly and attentive. We were lucky and got a free table without a reservation. I think you should make a reservation for evenings and especially on weekends as a precaution. The menu is not very large, but this is usually evidence of the good quality of the food. That was also the case. I took one of the daily recommendations based on a recommendation. Schnitzel Holstein, this was very tasty and juicy. The fried potatoes were also really tasty. My wife had the salmon with mustard sauce and she also loved it. The portion was absolutely sufficient for us. Clear recommendation from me.

We ate the 'special typical sausage' dish and it was really inedible. Worst food I've ever eaten. Very old potatoes, the sausage was not sausage but some kind of weird pancake meat mix that didn't taste like anything, way too greasy. The beet salad was also fermented and gross and old. There was no atmosphere, no music, nothing. For the rest, the owner is always sitting behind us. We felt quite uncomfortable and for the expensive price we certainly did not get what we paid for.

The last time we were there was around 30 years ago, but we now went there for dinner with guests from outside; it is advisable to make a reservation. The regional cuisine is presented in a deliciously prepared manner. The service, as well as the landlady herself, were absolutely friendly and accommodating. The rustic ambience still fits.

Service was nice. In my opinion, the food was 100% frozen ready-made food. 30 € for ready-made schnitzel with limp fried potatoes is a house number. Not recommended.

Apparently, in these times the landlady is in the fortunate position of having to do without around 1/4 of her guests simply because they do not want to be subjected to the left-wing uniform opinion. From an economic point of view, I don't think this is very smart. Nobody sees me here anymore.

I still know the place from my childhood! The food was very good back then and it still is today! You can expect home-style Bremen cuisine! There is Knipp (seen in the photo), pan fish (very fresh), crabs, cabbage and pee etc. in a cozy, relaxed atmosphere! The restaurant is close to Böttcher Straße! And it's a little insider tip! Here you are a bit away from the hustle and bustle and the food is excellent! The Knipp was not greasy, the fried potatoes were crispy, the salad was fresh and the apple compote was homemade! The prices are a little higher, but justified for the good quality! In addition, the service staff was extremely friendly! My dad was thrilled too!

We were looking for Bremen's culinary traditions and ended up in the Kleiner Ratskeller. There is no comparison, but one thing we can say is that it tasted wonderful! Ambience harmonious and cozy. Service nice and unobtrusive. It was a good decision for us!

Un ristorante accogliente, con piatti abbondanti e ben cucinati ad un minuto dalla piazza del mercato. Abbiamo mangiato due buoni piatti uno con salmone e l’altro con beef, le immancabili Bratkartoffeln e dell’ottima birra. Prezzo in campana, considerato che siamo in Germania e nel centro città. Abbiamo scoperto che in Germania l’acqua costa più del vino, una costante in tutti i ristoranti.

We ordered a glass of tap water with the coffee. Instead of bringing us tap water, they brought us two bottles of water already opened, each one cost €4. I understand that you don't want to serve tap water, but the minimum would be to report this, before bringing 2 already opened bottles and charging for them.

We were there spontaneously this afternoon and were really excited. Both the chef and the service staff know exactly what they are doing.

Regnerischer Tag in Bremen und mein zweiter Besuch hier an einem Samstag..14 Uhr durch, trotzdem freundliche Begrüßung, obwohl ich allein war…ist nicht immer üblich…Mittagstischangebote auch am Samstag, löblich, 14,80€ für ein Hüftsteak mit Bohnen und Bratkartoffeln…als Menü mit Suppe und Dessert 19,90€, das habe ich gegessen…Suppe ok, Hauptgericht auch, Dessert ebenso…keine Gourmetküche aber faires Essen zu fairem Preis…wenn man meckern könnte höchstens über eine 0,2l-Cola im Glas, etwas warm für 3,90€, in der Speisekarte steht 0,25l, Kaffee 3,50€ ist irgendwie auch etwas happig. Alles in allem gut satt geworden in schönem Ambiente, komme bestimmt wieder.

We didn’t feel welcome, and the food was average. The waiter didn’t bring the pepper sauce for the steak (which wasn’t cooked to order). When we asked for it, the waiter told us angrily that they didn’t have it and brought some fat from the frying pan instead. We waited a long time for our beers, and when they arrived, they were only 80-90% full. The rest was foam. Our friends bought a round of shots for us all, and they tried to tell her that it was a special edition whiskey (which it wasn’t, just ordinary Jack Daniel’s). Our friends payed for the round before they left but the restaurant still put it on our bill too. Location in the center of the city is great although it was difficult to find at first because the location in Google Maps is way off. All in all, not a good experience. There are many much better and more friendly restaurants within walking distance.

Very fine, small restaurant not far from the market square. Definitely a great alternative to the Ratskeller if you're looking for Bremen classics. ATTENTION: Unfortunately the address is displayed incorrectly on Google Maps. That's why I put a picture here with the correct position.

Located in the cellars of the old municipality of Bremen. Nice restaurant with huge decorated barrels. Fast service and welcoming staff. Definitely recommended.

We made a reservation for 6 people there at 6 p.m. All places were booked twice. Three other groups that had made reservations there (including at 5:30 p.m.) were still waiting to get in at 6:45 p.m. I will definitely not book here again!

Цена как хорошем ресторане, качество еды как в кебабе у вокзала. Сотрудники очень плохо говорят по-английски, не могут объяснить и рассказать о блюде ничего. Они находятся не там где на карте, думаю специально чтоб сложно было найти отзывы.

Wir waren mit 4 Personen zum Mittagessen im Kleinen Ratskeller . Das Lokal hat ein nettes Ambiente im Stil von früher. Wir wurden sehr freundlich empfangen und dann auch toll bedient. Wir haben Seelachs mit Senfsoße und Bratkartoffeln (Menü) gegessen. Vorweg gab es eine Hühnersuppe und zum Nachtisch Rote Grütze mit Vanillesoße. Das Essen war sehr lecker und schön angerichtet. Unsere Bekannten haben anstatt Fisch ein Schnitzel gegessen und waren auch sehr zufrieden.

De gastvrouw heeft het restaurant niet onder controle en zegt tegen iedereen dat er plek is. Ze is niet vriendelijk en heeft geen excuses gemaakt. Eten is prima.

Hatte mich auf eine Landente gefreut. Dann die Enttäuschung: keine knusprige Haut sondern labberich und nicht ausgebacken. Die Ente hätte noch im Ofen bleiben sollen, sie war zäh. Wut stieg auf. Aber dann sehr kulant: Die Ente wurde nicht berechnet. Nächstes mal wird etwas einfacheres Gericht bestellt.

Der Service war total überfordert. Reservationen haben nicht geklappt, am Schluss sind die Gäste sogar aufeinander los deshalb, weil Plätze nicht richtig zugewiesen worden sind. Das Essen war dafür sehr gut, aber vielleicht lags auch am Hunger beim ewiglangen Warten
