Klara — Kitchen & Bar in Hanau

We were very disappointed with the breakfast. We waited an hour for our food and ordered, among other things, two breakfast platters for two people. When the food arrived, it was served without guacamole and croissants, contrary to what was stated on the menu. When we pointed this out, the only response was, "Yes, we're out of them." It would have been helpful to have been informed beforehand, rather than only after we had to ask.

This isn't our first time at Klara's. However, the value for money has deteriorated significantly. A breakfast for two for almost €30 – and that included dried-out vegetables, generic cheese (which had clearly been sitting on the board for a while), and supermarket salami – are just a couple of the things that have gone downhill. Furthermore, two glasses of orange juice (not freshly squeezed) cost more than two glasses of Prosecco. Unfortunately, the two of us were given a table right in the middle – feeling like we were on display and very uncomfortable. It's a real shame, because we used to love coming to Klara's.

I didn't eat there, so unfortunately I can't comment on that. The service was very attentive and friendly.

Great atmosphere, especially for smaller groups. It can get very loud then, though. Delicious food. Definitely try the chestnut soup. It comes with freshly baked bread. Fantastic.

On my last visit, I was unfortunately a bit disappointed. I noticed that the breakfast menu was almost identical in layout and selection to that of the neighboring restaurant "Central," which is located on the same square. Since I've been alternating between the two restaurants for a change of pace, I found this a real shame – I especially missed the "Strammer Max" (a type of open-faced sandwich). Furthermore, the food didn't taste as good to me as at the other restaurant. Therefore, I'll probably go back to Central in the future.

We recently visited Klara and had the most enchanting evening ever; we'll never forget it! The staff were so friendly and incredibly nice, the food was delicious, and there was no long wait. I can highly recommend Klara in Hanau.

That's not great, and for €13.90 it's really poor!!!! You're paying a Michelin-starred chef for that :-(((. They used to serve a proper breakfast, not this nonsense!!! I won't be going back.

Excellent location, staff and quality cuisine

We've been to Clara in Hanau several times because the location is really lovely, the interior of the café/restaurant is very appealing, and the food is generally good. That's precisely why we're deliberately writing this review; we very rarely write reviews. But Clara has so much potential that is currently being wasted. Unfortunately, we've encountered the same problems on almost every visit: • We wait 15–20 minutes just to get a menu. • Several times we've had to get the menus ourselves because no one came, sometimes even when the place was almost empty. • After that, we often wait another 10 minutes or more before someone takes our order. • For a café or restaurant, that's simply far too long. Today we had another disappointing experience: The Kaiserschmarrn we ordered was dry, tasted like it was from the day before, and the sauce wasn't the vanilla sauce we enjoyed so much last week. Instead, we received something that tasted like vanilla-flavored yogurt. • When we politely informed the server, the plate was taken away, but: • We received no feedback, • no replacement, • no inquiry, • no explanation, • and no alternative offered. In the end, they even tried to charge us for the Kaiserschmarrn despite sending it back full. Only after a discussion was it removed from the bill. The tone of the service in this situation was anything but professional. We have a different understanding of service. A friendlier approach and more attention would have made a big difference. With good service, we would have gladly left a generous tip. We truly hope things improve at Clara because the restaurant has potential, the location is excellent, and we would actually like to continue coming here. But as things stand, we unfortunately cannot recommend Clara.

We received a warm welcome, and the service itself was very friendly and efficient. Waiting times were normal. The location is good if you're already in the city. The food is good. In my opinion, the prices are borderline too high.

We wanted to have a drink at 9:50 pm on Thursday evening, but were turned away with the explanation that they were already serving last call. The café was still very full, as it was still early. Very rude, since the place doesn't close until 11:00 pm. A real shame.

Years ago, the food here was relatively good – albeit always overpriced. Now we see no reason to go. The quality and quantity of the food have declined significantly, and the homemade bread unfortunately doesn't make up for it. The seating has been uncomfortable for years and isn't inviting. The service is sometimes great, sometimes absolutely terrible; it's a matter of luck.

The service was very friendly, and the thyme chicken with mashed potatoes and ratatouille was truly delicious. It's almost a shame I was just passing through, otherwise I would have come more often. It was just a little noisy.

We go there regularly. The crusty bread with pumpkin and goat cheese was unfortunately a third smaller than before, just a small, thin slice of bread. There was very little salad, and no salad besides the bread as a side dish. There used to be considerably more on the plate. This was a starter for €16.90. Mine tasted good, but not enough. The music with the DJ at 3 p.m. was incredibly loud; sorry, but that's the wrong time. You'd like to have a conversation over coffee, but that was difficult here. Would you like a DJ, but after 6/7 p.m.? We then moved to the relaxing, quiet Tchibo for cake and coffee. Service was pleasant. It would be nice if the portions were adjusted.

We arrived around 10:30, and there were only a few tables occupied. I think it's overpriced, and my girlfriend, another friend, and I had indigestion shortly afterward and had to rush to the restroom. It might have been the oil. We had a Stammer Max and an omelet. Around 11:00, two people each arrived, who were instructed by the very assertive waitress to sit at tables for two, even though others were already sitting at a table for four, and the place was sparsely occupied. Both times, the people left because it was annoying. We won't be going there again.

Beautiful, rustic location. Service is very ambitious and on the ball. The food is consistently excellent. The price is right. €95 for three people, including a main course, dessert, and drinks, is absolutely justified, given the restaurant's location. We'd be happy to go back. 👍🏻

Great place with excellent coffee, teas, and lemonades! The food is also very good and fresh, and they always offer new things depending on the season! I love it because it's cozy and you can have a great conversation! There's also something going on in the evenings! Perhaps a bit more presence from the service staff so you don't have to wait long, and paying would be quicker if they simply offered a different service concept so that you can always see someone to answer questions or accommodate requests. The guys and girls are otherwise very friendly and helpful! I'll be happy to come back! Thanks!

Unfortunately, the matcha cocktail didn't taste good at all—it was just milk with mango syrup, but no matcha.

As a woman traveling alone, I wanted to enjoy a piece of cake, but after sitting down at a free table by the window, I was very rudely told to sit at the kids' table in the corner, since I was, after all, alone. I then left without ordering. It was a real shame.

It's more about the ambiance than the food. These days, you pay €11 for a piece of bread with a fried egg, and it's carelessly slapped onto your plate. I'm out, unfortunately!

Rude staff. They constantly turn us away with the line, "We've already had our last round, we're closing." It says online that it's open until midnight, but right now it's 10:11 PM, and despite repeated reminders, it hasn't been corrected online. I'm very angry and disappointed!

We were here for lunch. We received a very friendly welcome upon entering and were immediately escorted to our table. Upon asking, we were given food recommendations, and we were more than satisfied. Everything was delicious, and the waitress was very friendly and accommodating. If we ever come back to Hanau, we would stop here again and try the extensive breakfast selection.

A cozy restaurant in the heart of downtown Hanau serving regional and freshly prepared dishes. Whether it's brunch, coffee, lunch, or dinner, the food is always delicious. There's both indoor and outdoor seating, and the homemade bread is simply unbeatable. Friendly service, delicious dishes, and a relaxed atmosphere. I've been coming here for years and always enjoy it. Highly recommended! ❤️

Generally a nice place for lunch or breakfast. The service has improved significantly, is much faster, and always friendly. Unfortunately, it's unpleasantly loud due to the lack of acoustic elements. The bread hasn't been stored sufficiently for the past few weeks. This makes it too wet/sticky and inedible. I hope this improves. Update: At breakfast, they've now reduced the ingredients for the same price. The usable area has been reduced by 25%, just bread, one slice less cheese... The green sauce is so thin or stretched that it runs off the bread...

Unfortunately, I have to join in the wave of disappointment. We used to go to Klare at least once or twice a week. At some point, the bad food started. The excuse was that a new chef was there. The last three times weren't any better, unfortunately. Even the overly friendly staff didn't help.

Today, after a long time, I went to Klara with friends again; it was a fantastic evening. The food was excellent. For starters, we had the feta cheese and tomato pancakes... super tasty and slightly spicy. Then we had the hand cheese bratwurst, the tomato sandwich, and the mushroom pancakes... all super delicious. The drinks were also delicious. But the service was particularly noteworthy. A super nice, friendly young man was at our side the entire evening. Incredibly motivated and attentive. We ended up chatting with him, and it turned out he'd been working there for 9.5 years. My friend initially said he was young and motivated and hadn't been there long, but I said, "No, I don't think so, I know him." I've seen him here several times, and I was right. It's great that after so many years, you still enjoy your job. 👌🏻🙂💓👍🏻

Better go to other restaurants - you're not valued as a customer there! We have a voucher issued for the former restaurant "Frau Trude" (Große Dechaneistraße 24, 63450 Hanau). Yesterday, we tried to redeem it and discovered that it was refused both at the original restaurant (under new management) and at the restaurant "Klara Hanau" (Am Markt 8c, 63450 Hanau), currently run by you as the former operator – with the explanation that they were no longer responsible or unwilling to accept the voucher. The refusal to redeem the voucher – without a fair or at least mediating solution – is, in our view, not only disappointing but legally questionable. The fact that the former operator continues to run his own restaurant makes the blanket rejection all the more incomprehensible. What particularly annoys us: We were looking forward to the restaurant visit, but since we don't live in Hanau, we traveled especially for the occasion – and ended up frustrated, standing in front of two restaurants where no one was willing to take responsibility. The experience was not only disappointing, but also damaging to our business. I have regularly used both restaurants, Frau Trude's and Klara's, for business meals in the past and have even recommended them – that will change after this incident.

I happened upon Hanau by chance and was looking for something for lunch. Such an original menu, including the lunch specials. Everything is truly fresh and lovingly prepared. The bread basket with warm homemade bread and dips. The salad plate is fantastic. Delicious homemade sodas, especially cucumber and lemon, or delicious draft beer and regional wine. The service is super friendly! Would be my regular if I lived here 😊

We love going to Klara; we recently had brunch. The sharing platter is large, and the homemade chocolate cream is especially delicious. The staff is friendly and attentive; we always feel at home. And Klara's homemade bread is to die for; I get one almost every week because it tastes so amazing!

Today, as we often do on weekends, we went to Klara for a drink. The waiter came to our table to clear the empty glasses of the previous guests. We greeted him and said we'd like to order something. To our great surprise, the waiter (a bald man) very rudely told us to wish him a good day before ordering! Very rude and not friendly at all! We will never go to Klara again and cannot recommend anyone to let such a rude person ruin their day.

I think the food here used to be much better in 2020 but otherwise everything is fine

The outdoor seating here is really lovely, right on the market square. The menu isn't extensive, but it still offers a great selection. The presentation, portion sizes, and taste were excellent. It's been a great addition to Hanau's city center for many years.

I always enjoy coming here for breakfast.

There were four of us for breakfast and we ordered the large breakfast for two people each, including salmon. Breakfast arrived and my husband remarked where the salmon was... it came out quite curtly, but there was more sausage on the platter... sorry, things like that have to be said beforehand... salmon is the best thing about this not-so-cheap breakfast. The reservation didn't go smoothly... I had specified that I wanted to sit upstairs (there is a special space for requests when booking online), but we were given a table downstairs by the entrance even though the upstairs table was nowhere near full... apart from that... the service was very friendly and quick and the air was filled with the smell of delicious homemade bread, and the homemade jam and chocolate spread were also top-notch.

We sat on the terrace for almost 15 minutes and no one served us. It wasn't really busy. Then we went to Cafe Central.

Klara continues to score highly with its truly beautiful location and extremely friendly, attentive staff – that's definitely a big plus and creates a pleasant atmosphere. Unfortunately, this visit was rather disappointing from a culinary perspective. I was particularly surprised by the price increase for the Handkäsebrot (hand cheese bread): €17.50 for a slice of bread with some sour cream, a few onions, a single lettuce leaf, and some Handkäse (hand cheese) is hard to understand, even with rising prices. Even more shocking is that the portion is significantly smaller than before – it feels like it's been halved. The fried chicken on salad was also disappointing. While the salad was plentiful, it had obviously been marinated in the vinaigrette for a while – it was all very mushy. The chicken itself was unfortunately dry and not very juicy. Conclusion: I've been happy to pay a little more here in the past because the quality and experience were good. After this visit, however, that's unfortunately no longer the case. A real shame.

We've enjoyed eating here so far. Unfortunately, the quantity of the delicious sweet potato box was reduced by a quarter and the soup was served lukewarm. When asked whether the reduction was intentional, the answer was contradicted.

I had a mushroom cream schnitzel with fries. Although it was probably fries with schnitzel as a side dish ;) The taste was delicious but I would have liked more schnitzel and fewer fries for the price. Drinks are good. Service was very friendly and attentive. The ambience is nicely done.

Overall it's great, only the price level is slightly excessive in my opinion and the service isn't the fastest either. But the food is good and the atmosphere is nice too.

We really enjoyed having breakfast at Klara Hanau's, it was a bit more expensive but the cheese and the various dips were also of great quality, unfortunately everything was gradually taken away and replaced with something else, which is of course a real shame.

Brunch, Friday morning: The hummus sandwich for around 11 euros was very, very tasty. The crusty bread also tastes excellent. A friend had the veggie breakfast. It's a very generous portion. For the topping, you will definitely need a roll or slice of bread 😕. There was also a latte macchiato with vanilla. For 5.40 euros the taste was ok. You couldn't taste the syrup. However, I found the price too high. Otherwise there is an elevator, it was relatively "empty" so we didn't have to wait long. The service was great.

We were in the restaurant on April 12, 2025 around 10:20 p.m. and actually wanted to eat something. Unfortunately we were informed that there was no more food - which would have been perfectly fine. Since there was no menu on our table, I grabbed one from the shelf to take a look. Suddenly I was shouted at by a slightly larger employee in a very unfriendly tone: “If you're going to take the menu, then put it back!” - completely inappropriate and disrespectful. My husband and I were completely perplexed and felt really attacked. This is no way to treat guests. We then left the restaurant straight away. Very disappointing - this kind of treatment is not possible at all.

Reception for April 12, 2025, approx. 10:20 p.m. – Restaurant “Klara Hanau” On the evening of April 12th around 10:20 p.m. I was in the “Klara” restaurant with my husband, hoping to end the evening nicely with a cozy drink. Unfortunately, we were treated in an extremely unfriendly and disrespectful manner by an employee. As we sat at the table, we picked up the menu - whereupon the lady, who was a bit stronger and had long hair, pointed out to us in a harsh tone that the kitchen was already closed. That wouldn't have been a problem in itself, but her manner was extremely inappropriate. I then calmly put the card back, whereupon she said again in a very rude tone that I should “put it back properly if I’ve already taken it out.” That was not only inappropriate for us, but also hurtful - we didn't feel welcome at all at that moment and left straight away. Such behavior is absolutely unacceptable when dealing with guests. Respect and friendliness should be a given in a restaurant - especially when guests don't ask for the impossible. I really hope that the staff behaves more professionally in the future, as this will deter guests rather than invite them to come back.

A nice place to spend time outside on the terrace, especially in summer. Be sure to try Kaiserschmarren. The forecourt is also beautiful.

Hello, we had 4 seats reserved by the window on the 1st floor with our guests on Wednesday. Today we were informed when we arrived that all service people were needed outside and we were not entitled to this reservation. After heated discussions we were allowed to stay. I wanted to order a “Strammen Max” at 12:02 p.m. Apparently the kitchen was already closed. When I only ordered an appetizer, the waiter was very reluctant to respond to my order. He probably would have preferred a main course. The men's toilet was in a completely filthy condition. For example, the toilet seat was stained yellow from urine. I cannot recommend Klara more highly. I was ashamed of my friends

We were there today with a larger registered group. We asked on the phone if we wanted to eat warm food - we said no, we wanted to come for coffee and eat cake. There was exactly one type of cake available - a no-go according to the previous agreement. The service was attentive and friendly, but you have to ask about a lot of things in the kitchen.

Service staff speaks to you as if you, as a customer, were a criminal. Table for two is free without a reservation. There are two of you and you just say no. I can only offer standing tables. And the tone, like you're a criminal.

We went there for breakfast. The service was quick and friendly. The food was good, and the portions were quite generous. The location is good. We parked in the parking garage beneath the market square, and if you take the right exit, you're right in front of the café.

We spent a very nice spring evening here. The place/square has a southern touch when you can sit outside and overlook the square. We were here with 🐶, which wasn't a problem. Service was very friendly and attentive, food came quickly and was of very good quality. We would have liked to try Kasierschmarn, which the neighboring table told us was excellent. Unfortunately we were too full after the main course 🥂

Very tasty food, prices a bit high but still within reason, especially when you consider the quality of the food! Large selection available! We had a super nice waiter who worked in Cologne for a long time and really understood his job :)

A lot of staff who don't feel like it. At first there was no space outside (which of course the staff can't do anything about). They were then sent in. We went upstairs and sat down. Two or three employees passed us at the top. After 10 minutes we asked if we could be served. Then the top was closed. We waited downstairs for 15 minutes and then left. The food is OK. Ambience cool. Staff rubbish!

Quick coffee to brighten up and the we are off again! Really nice place in the summer time in the middle of the square of the square of Hanau. 👍

Nice ambiance – unfortunately, the wait time leaves much to be desired. A notice that it would take longer would have been helpful. Wait time for a yogurt was 45 minutes. Truly sad.

A nice little bright spot in Hanau. Good food, lovely ambiance, and absolutely fine service. Only the entrance to the restaurant is a bit odd, as you're immediately intercepted by the bartender (with a ponytail) behind the bar, even though you haven't even entered the restaurant yet. It didn't really leave a pleasant impression. And the restrooms could be a bit more well-maintained. They're obviously not cleaned very often. All in all, though, highly recommended.

I went back after a year. The service was still poor. Too few staff, and they were either poorly trained or didn't really want to work. The food was so-so, and unfortunately far too expensive for what was offered.

Der Service war nicht gut. Reservierung wurde nicht beachtet. Das Besteck fehlte, die Getränke kamen erst nach dem Essen, ein schmutziges Weinglas musste zurück gehen und kam ohne Wein zurück, die handgemachten Pommes kamen aus der Tüte, die Suppe wurde lauwarm serviert und schmutziges Geschirr wurde nicht weggeräumt. Wir haben uns gar nicht beschwert nur immer gebeten und nachgefragt. Das Geschirr haben selbst weggeräumt, weil wir keinen Platz auf dem Tisch mehr hatten. Wir wurden daraufhin gemaßregelt vor den anderen Gästen, obwohl wir gar nichts falsch gemacht haben. Uns wurde gesagt, dass wir uns "zu viel beschweren" würden und das Geschirr nicht selbst wegräumen dürften. So etwas habe ich noch nie erlebt. So unverschämt Kunden zu attackieren, weil man selbst den Job nicht auf die Reihe bekommt, ist keine sehr intelligente Strategie. Leben die nicht vom der Geld der Gäste? Das muss man sich zum Glück zukünftig wirklich nicht mehr geben.

Unfortunately, the wait was very long and the service was poor! Breakfast took a mere 60 minutes. They didn't take any further drink orders during that time because "the place was full" (as the employee unprofessionally responded). So if you're looking for a relaxed weekend breakfast, please don't come here! It's a shame!

I was totally shocked by the prices. We paid almost €100 for two people, including breakfast and four drinks. NEVER AGAIN, such a total disgrace.

There's nothing to complain about and it's always worth a visit, whether for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Highly recommended.

Cool and modern decor, seating not inviting. Service was okay; the waiter was visibly annoyed and only did the bare minimum. Food was delicious, but the prices were outrageous.

It's September 2024, and I was out and about as usual, looking for something to eat in Hanau. Right on the market square, you can watch the people outside, and I was thirsty due to the high temperatures. The beer garden was half full, with two waitresses who ignored me for almost 15 minutes, and guests who arrived later already had their drinks. I managed to assert myself, and with a friendly Bavarian... question... do I know something about this place, the whole thing picked up speed. There was schnitzel with fries and a beer, all in all, a fair price-performance ratio. Even when ordering again... I had to be patient. I think that's not the norm, and I'd like to thank the entire team.

I was treated very rudely during my visit. Immediately after arriving, I wanted to use the restroom, which apparently already posed a problem. I then ordered an espresso at the counter. When I tried to pay with a 50-euro note, the shift manager explained that she didn't have any change. She then simply took back my half-finished espresso and forbade me from continuing to drink it. When I tried to complain about this behavior, I was simply told that she was the shift manager and had to act accordingly. I work in the restaurant industry myself and have never experienced such rude and unprofessional treatment. Unfortunately, I can only give one star for my visit today.
