Kitten Deli in Berlin

All in all good, but with plenty of room for improvement… Price-performance not suitable for Neukölln.

Last night around 8 PM, my friend and I decided to grab a bite at Kitten Deli. We were excited, but our experience quickly took a turn for the worse. The waitress was downright rude. Despite the outdoor seating being empty due to the chilly weather and the indoors being packed, he completely ignored us. My friend—who's a local German—politely asked if we could place our order, but he just brushed him off and walked away without a word. Frustrated, I went inside to inquire, only to be met with a question about whether we had a reservation. Funny enough, the table next to us didn’t have a reservation either, yet they received service while we were left hanging. It’s really disheartening to see this kind of behavior in Berlin’s restaurant scene, especially when you approach with kindness. What a disappointing experience

The food is exceptionally delicious. The combinations harmonize perfectly and I would happily eat it again.

We had a reservation at 8:30 p.m. and were only able to order after 20 minutes. When we wanted to order more food shortly after 9 p.m., the kitchen was already closed. At 9:20 p.m. there was one last round of drinks. The guests were literally urged to finish quickly, drink up and leave. But my bigger problem was the staff: two waiters were very unfriendly when I told them about my irritation. Statements like "It`s your problem. You can go to other restaurants." was aggressively addressed to me. That was neither hospitable nor professionally appropriate when dealing with criticism.

Very flavourful food and really friendly service! Loved the salad and the aubergine! Missed a mark for me because of 2 things, the place can get quite loud (too loud for my liking) and the price is a tad bit too much for what you get imo.. other than that it's great!

The place I always show my friends who visit Berlin. Brunch or dinner – it’s always a good atmosphere. Small bites are really delicious. Must try – Aubergine plate. Home made bread is also a good choice. Loud X-berg street adds vibe to the place. Highly recommended

I wrote a review 2 years ago for this place saying how the food is great but the waiters were arrogant and impolite. However, today, after talking to the owner, Ngoc, I feel like she's doing everything possible to make this place run well. I only wish there were more restaurant owners like her who respect their customers and care about the quality of service and food. Only wish good to this place, and if you are having any problems with service, just ask to talk to her, and you will see that your problem will be quickly resolved.

The ambiance was very nice here. I got the kitten trinity ( tahini and challah bread) and a grilled cheese. The kitten trinity was good, but the portion size was really disappointing. They give a large amount of tahini with only 2 small pieces of challah. I'm not sure why they would give so little bread since you can't even make a dent into the tahini with the amount of bread they give you. The tahini was nice, it had 2 spicy sauces on top, but the challah was rather dry. The grilled cheese was good. Overall decent place, but the food does not really match the price.

El Kitten Deli & Bakery sirve bebidas, desayunos y otros alimentos. Está situado en Berlín. Es un café antiguo y tradicional, pero está muy limpio y tiene un personal amable. La comida estaba bien presentada y sabrosa. Los baños por las escaleras estaban limpios, pero usted - debe tener cuidado, ya que los escalones son muy empinados.

Wow, we had the sabich and it was the best thing I ate in a restaurant in a long time. So many different flavours, fresh, perfectly spicy, just delicious.

Very bad, culturally appropriated food. Better go to Sonnenallee to get the real deal.

Don’t order the ginger lemon tea, it wasn’t even hot and it tasted like luke warm tap water with a squeeze of lemon in it. Don’t waste 4.50 on this

Overrated place. But you’ll love it if you’re a vacuous hipster. Food is like the clients: ectoplasmic, bland, banal. nothing out of the ordinary.

Amazing food, the kindest staff!

Nice evening with friends! 7 of us came and we ordered almost everything on the menu. The portions are quite generous, we took away the leftovers. The ingredients are quality and very well cooked. I enjoyed eating new potatoes. Payment by card only. Please note, we were not able to cut the bill into equal parts.

Very nice place to dine in, the Sabich is warmly recommended. It's warmly recommended to book in advance especially in the evenings, the place is quite popular and just popping in is very risky. The minus is the indoor noise level which makes conversations with friends a bit complicated. There's no sound proofing and the naked walls resonate and amplify all sounds. Hunt: it should be easy to fix by putting some panels or textiles like curtains on the walls.

Wow. What a place to eat! And in every respect! 🤤😮‍💨 It was fate that the three of us got a place in this wonderful restaurant at short notice yesterday. The lovely service pointed out to us that we didn't have too long to eat or linger because the table would be needed later. Drinks and food arrived quickly and simply blew us away. It was incredibly tasty and lovingly prepared. In the end we even managed a desert 👏🏻 the atmosphere is special and if we had time we would certainly have lingered. But we will definitely come back 🤩

Humus with eggplant, potato, and egg was the best and a big portion, but Shakshouka was not the best. The people and the atmosphere were nice. I’d recommend you reserve a table.

An absolutely amazing experience! Though it's a vegetarian restaurant, the variety and quality of the dishes are exceptional. The atmosphere is cozy yet refined, and it's a favorite spot for many. You definitely won’t regret visiting!

Even if the acoustics in the restaurant are problematic, the restaurant is highly recommended. Apart from the very friendly service, the food tastes excellent. The homemade beetroot lemonade is also great! 👍

Delicious food, I loved the spicy muhammara toast. Lots of Arabic inspired dishes here with a twist. Staff very friendly and accommodate how busy it is by finding you a table.

Great food for a very fair price and nice service. Unfortunately, we didn’t receive our booked table as we were a bit too late. However, they should have a number to call for such cases. Apart from that - highly recommend!

Silly hipster place that demands a 5,- euro minimum card payment for a 4,5 orange juice. “I am just following the rules” the arrogant attitude is astounding for the mediocrity that is being served.

Had a wonderful meal yesterday. A fantastic sabich and delicious okra. Perfectly prepared and seasoned. And the madness for Berlin: only card payment possible! That's not exactly what we're used to in the neighborhood.

Lots of good gluten free options and everything is vegetarian.

The sabbich is particularly recommended, but everything else is delicious too. An absolute tip to eat here but it's best to reserve in advance.

We ordered Shashuka 14.8€ and Sabich Plate 14.5€ ( the names might be wrong as i dont remember correctly) The food is very basic compared to the price. The taste is a bit boring, potatoes lack salt and Shashuka also lacks salt. The bread was sweet bread which i personally think it would taste better with dark bread. I think you can find better alternative in this area with better price.

Wasn't there yet, but I ordered (Wolt) and it was really delicious. Now I'll go there myself soon. UPDATE (08/20/24): So now I was there. The outside seating is typically improvised in Neukölln. The tables are just enough for 3 people if you add a third chair. We were allowed to swap places because a rather slanted seat was really too wobbly. Where we sat there was a bad, moldy smell coming from the basement window in the floor. The store can't do anything about that. But I suspect the basement in this house is probably relatively unusable. The food was again extremely good. All three of us were very satisfied. A friend put together a hummus plate with cauliflower and shakshuka as extras, another had the middle green salad plus delicious challah bread and I had the sabich plate. Everything was great and brought to the table relatively immediately after ordering. The service was also well stocked and attentive throughout the evening. I think the price is completely okay for the quality, the good service and the pleasant audience. It was almost completely booked outdoors for a Tuesday evening from 7 p.m., so you should plan for this, so maybe it's better to make a reservation. Nice to know: Payment only possible via EC/credit card! It didn't bother me at all, on the contrary.

Insanely pretentious service. Refused to remove an ingredient from the recipe despite having an allergy. Accused us of “ruining” the court and then very defiantly did it. What a kindergarten.

Delicious tappas to share but also enjoy alone. Simple but very delicious. The ambience and service feels very bussy. I couldn't rest well. But still enjoy the food. Vegan and vegetarian dishes.

Do not come here hoping to eat hummus and roasted aubergine for breakfast. Main menu including everything you see in the photos starts at 12pm and breakfast menu before this is very limited. The two vegan breakfast items were disappointing and overpriced. Low quality oat milk makes a bad coffee too. Probably a better experience for lunch.

Very vibrant place with great food and service. I just wonder why in a very nice and busy place like this, they let customers hold a table for 2 hours to PLAY CARD, when there is a line of people waiting outside to eat.

Cool breakfast/lunch place. Not cheap, but taste was really good, so I didn't mind. If portions would be a bit bigger that would obviously be better 😀. Food was delicious, everything had a unique taste and we were very sad when the plate was finished. Unfortunately certain meals are only served after 12.00 and their breakfast menu is not too big; if I could make a recommendation - I would offer all dishes at all times, as some ppl really like hummus for breakfast/brunch. Bread is homemade and delicious. Service was okish - we had to wait 50 minutes for our food and people who ordered after us were served earlier than us. But maybe that was a unique experience and is not the norm.

The service was great. Food was good but charging 7.90€ for a very average riesling wine is ridiculous…

Realmente decepcionante. El café fue el peor que he tomado en 20 años, la comida es mediocre, hay 1000 lugares mejores en Berlín. El servicio era deficiente. Decoración/ambiente terrible. Y lo peor de lo peor: tarjetas que no se molestan en decirte hasta que pagues. Absoluta desgracia.

Very tasty Israeli food (favorite: Sabich plate) and good drinks (e.g. Negroni). Friendly staff who will usually help you find a seat in this busy restaurant.

amazing place in one of the best street in neukoln, food was just amazing, we ordered the hummus with califlower and the sabich plate (our favorite: tahini sauce was to die for) that we both shared we were so full after that ! I truly recommend the restaurant and the service was perfect we waited only 5min to have a table outside!

The food they serve is just delicious. They know how to cook an eggplant! You need to reserve your table in advance and you need to stick to the given timeframe. We are very happy with the service, it was fast and everyone is friendly. I definitely recommend their roasted cauliflower and hummus.

We went for breakfast on a spring Sunday. The ambience is quiet and chill, the food amazing. We didn’t have problems to find a place and the food was very good. The poached egg were a bit underdone but amazing any way. The waiter was kind, very good service. We’ll repeat, a very nice place.

I don't know what to say, may be I'm out of touch? I found the whole experience a bit disappointing and somewhat uncomfortable. For the amount of money paid I can certainly say it is not value, photo shows food and drinks consumed, 43 Euros!

Great place for breakfast, lunch or brunch close to the canal. Service is friendly and the Sabich excellent with pickled mango and harissa. Labneh is expensive for what it is and I wouldn’t recommend it. Overall, very good price and quality ratio.

Great food. Sadly the pita was clearly refrigerated and way too hard and thick. I hope they improve that.

Unfortunately we didn't have a reservation on Sunday lunchtime and therefore had to wait 1 hour (we were put on a waiting list) - I would recommend the fermented cucumbers!

The taste of the bread was similar to a slightly dry yeast plait. Shakshuka was okay, but a bit expensive. The service was there, but not really open or friendly. All in all, nothing special. There are much better places in Berlin that serve Israeli cuisine.

Absolute arrogance of the male waiter with the ponytail. We were on the waiting list, he „came to search for us“ and despite sitting on the bench directly in front of the restaurant, apparently he hasn‘t seen us. Then after getting a table 15mins later than promised, we sat for another 20mins. People who came after us got to order first, we were still waiting. We stood up and left and received the most sassy answer I‘ve EVER experienced in a restaurant, we were blamed for not asking to order, instead of an apology. Never in any restaurant did I have to beg to order. Besides the fact that I even wanted to, multiple times I turned around to make eye contact but there was zero awareness shown and checking on your guests seems to be a difficult task for the staff. We were polite, obviously patient and kind the whole time and this arrogant server ruined our afternoon. I told the waiter that we are leaving because we weren’t served for 20minutes and the reply was simply „If you don’t like it here, you can leave“. Absolutely unbelievable choice of words. I can‘t say anything about the food as we obviously were unable to get food in more than an hour entire waiting time. Multiple reviews here mention the arrogance of the staff and it‘s both surprising and disappointing that this can be confirmed.
