We've been regular customers for so long, and every time we wait about 40 minutes (at best) for our food, we're prepared. But not anymore. We waited over an hour, and everyone else got their food before us. This is a complete disaster. You haven't improved your service since day one. We often brought our entire family gatherings to you, but we're definitely not going back, and we'd definitely advise our family members not to go again. Absolutely not.

We used to come here often and were generally satisfied, but our last visit was a complete disappointment. Our food arrived surprisingly quickly, while other guests next to us, who had been sitting there for a while and had ordered exactly the same thing, received their food significantly later. My impression: We got the last leftovers, while the others got the freshly prepared portion. Our food looked exactly the same—not fresh, the meat was cold, and overall, it seemed unloved. The result was severe food poisoning, and since I hadn't eaten anything that day except breakfast, I have no doubt as to the cause. It's an absolute no-go for a restaurant to treat guests like this and obviously serve them leftovers. Subjecting customers to this is the worst thing a restaurant can do. Perhaps it's just my personal impression, but I've also observed several times that certain guests who are of the same background or similar to the staff are noticeably given preferential treatment. This is unfair, because everyone pays the same price and should receive the same quality and treatment. Very disappointing after this experience, I will definitely not eat here again and cannot recommend the place.

⸻ Unfortunately, the restaurant was a huge disappointment. The place was completely overcrowded, and there was only one waiter, who was completely overwhelmed. As a result, service was chaotic and extremely slow. The food was not of the highest quality, and to top it all off, the koabideh had an unpleasant smell. Overall, it wasn't a pleasant experience, and I definitely wouldn't go back.

We were there with our family and a small child, and we really liked that a waiter immediately offered us a table and brought a high chair for our child. When we were already choosing what we wanted to eat, no one wanted to see us and everyone was busy. After 20 minutes, I called the front of the restaurant, and only then was our order taken. The Afghan food is delicious and filling. But a big minus point was the fries, which were very dry and slightly burnt. The drinks also came in glasses and were warm and unfortunately inedible. It's a shame that the good service from one friendly employee is ruined by another. Even when it's busy and stressful, every guest is treated equally friendly!

A definite recommendation for those who want to try something new. Afghan cuisine is difficult to describe, as it bears no resemblance to Anatolian, Persian, or Indian cuisine. The different ways of preparing rice alone are a taste experience. The lemonade with saffron is a must-try! If you like vegetarian options, the okra is fantastic!

Two of us came to the restaurant. Although there were many free tables, they only wanted to seat us at a table right next to the kitchen. When we asked to change seats because of the smells and noise, the employee reacted rudely, simply stating that there were no tables for two people and simply walked away. This behavior was disrespectful. Even though I had invited my boyfriend, we left the restaurant because of this treatment. It was an unpleasant and embarrassing experience. Due to this lack of respect, I will not visit this restaurant again.

Anyone who loves meat and Persian cuisine should stop by here! Among the various rice varieties and kebab menus, there's something for everyone. Some dishes, though not many, are suitable for vegetarians.

The visit to Restaurant Balk was overall okay, but unfortunately without any particular highlights. The drinks were served in glasses and lacked carbonation, making them seem a bit flat. With the kubideh, it was noticeable that too much baking soda was used, which made the consistency seem slightly spongy. Anyone who has already experienced a well-prepared Adana kebab will probably be unimpressed. The mantu was also rather average in terms of taste. The salad served at the beginning and the lavash (cold and lacking in freshness) were also not convincing. Added to that was the slow service – not a big deal, but not exactly a flagship experience either. Overall, a solid, but not particularly outstanding experience. Conclusion: If you're hungry, you'll get full. If you're looking for enjoyment, you won't find it here.

On a trip through Germany, I spent a day in Hanover visiting friends, and we went to this unique restaurant. The different options offered were original, everything exquisite, the flavors, the different types of rice, and so many dishes we tried, suggested by our friend, a regular customer. The service was excellent, the prices affordable. The atmosphere was simple, very clean, and busy. I highly recommend it!

The food tastes good, but the wait time is very long. Furthermore, there's a male server who is very unprofessional in his comments and behavior and who started about two years ago. This is the reason I don't come anymore.

Disappointing, especially compared to before 😵‍💫 I was here a few years ago and had a fantastic experience – great food, good quality, friendly service. Back then, I gave it five stars. ✖️Today, unfortunately, was the complete opposite: The food was lukewarm, and some of the ingredients seemed old. Particularly irritating: Half a cold green chili was left on the plate as "decoration" – obviously cut off with a knife, either in the kitchen or (even worse) by a previous guest. This is completely unacceptable from a hygiene perspective. ✖️Even the "service bread," which was brought automatically, ended up being charged extra – completely unreasonable, even if it was only 50 cents or 1 euro. This is no way to treat regular customers, or guests in general!? I really hope something changes here. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend the restaurant at the moment 😵‍💫👎

The dishes are full of flavor – the saffron rice, the tender kebab, and the ghormeh sabzi were especially delicious. Everything is freshly prepared and lovingly presented. The service was very friendly and attentive; you feel like a welcome guest, not just a customer. If you want to experience Persian cuisine of the highest quality, this is the place to go. Unfortunately, the restaurant has declined significantly since the coronavirus pandemic. Prices are now significantly higher, but the quality of the food has noticeably deteriorated – and the portions smaller. Anyone familiar with the dishes knows that the quality in Balkh isn't particularly high, but today I was particularly disappointed: I waited a very long time and received a wilted salad, stale bread, and really bad qabuli rice. It wasn't nearly what you'd expect for that price. What also disappointed me was that my complaint wasn't really addressed. They could have at least offered a small discount or an alternative. For the almost 50 euros we paid, you can definitely get better food elsewhere. I won't be coming back here for a while!

The two of us went out to eat and sat outside in the beautiful weather. The little one brought us the menus straight away and we picked out something to eat: a Balkh plate with rice and a Sultani plate for my boyfriend. First there was a side dish with onions and parsley, which was completely wilted and not fresh, but it wasn't that bad; we were more looking forward to the main course. However, it took about 35 minutes for our food to arrive, which was obviously not pleasant in the heat outside. The waiter explained the late meal by saying that there had been a large order. I ordered Ayran with peppermint to drink, which had also warmed up in the meantime. A couple who arrived at the same time as us with a child even finished their food before us and left. When paying, we naturally mentioned again that we were dissatisfied, but they simply tried to make us happy with an apology. The quality of the service has definitely gone down; they could have at least been a bit more accommodating. This was my last visit, although I enjoyed coming here before.

The food is truly delicious. But the service is incredibly poor. The friendliness leaves much to be desired; the food is simply placed on the table, without even being brought near you, without a single word like "Bon appétit."

Very disappointing. The food was cold, the kebab cost 18 euros - without rice! The salad was a joke: no tomatoes, huge pieces of raw pepper, carelessly prepared. For a city like Hanover, and especially for tourists, such quality is simply unacceptable. I've never had such bad food on my travels - absolutely not good value for money.

Today I ordered Qabeli with lamb through Wolt. I only received the rice and spinach. When I asked over the phone, I was not offered a replacement. Shortly after, the restaurant removed the dish from the Wolt app, making it difficult for me to get my money back. I won't eat here anymore. A tip to the owners: it is better to accept the loss when making such mistakes and replace the dish to the customer. A bad review will hurt you significantly more financially in the long run.

We visited this restaurant one month ago. The food was good. However, they do not serve any alcoholic beverages, and some of the staff were very rude and disrespectful. I do not recommend this restaurant because of the poor attitude of the personnel. Additionally, the quality of the food is not high enough for me to recommend it.

Unfortunately, my visit to Balkh Restaurant was a very disappointing experience. The location is neither nice nor comfortable, and the atmosphere in the restaurant was unpleasant - there was a strange, stuffy air that made the stay anything but pleasant. The service left a lot to be desired: the employees were rude and seemed annoyed. Our order was taken incorrectly and even though it wasn't particularly busy we had to wait over 50 minutes for our food. There was no apology. Overall, the experience at Balkh Restaurant was very negative. Unfortunately I cannot recommend it and will definitely not be coming back.

Eat sensibly. Definitely improve service and maybe modernize the ambience a bit. Top quality food, homemade from sauces to the last piece!

I am the mother of an autistic child. My husband and I went to this restaurant with the toaster and asked the employee to let it toast for a minute but they didn't allow us to go to this restaurant all the time and we bought it that day but they didn't allow us and my son was hungry so we had to go somewhere else.

The food was super delicious, I ordered chicken masala and it was a 10/10. One waiter took great care of everything (I think his name is Mojtaba) and was extremely friendly.

Was there today and it was absolutely delicious! Had a chicken skewer with rice and it tasted really delicious, better than expected. The waiter was also very friendly and asked us several times if we needed anything else. A really, really good waiter (he was a bit younger, probably around 18-19 years old). The restaurant is really the BEST Afghan I know in Hanover. Not to be topped!!

I have to give it a total of 1 star to make the intensity of the unbearable circumstance clear. The food in Hanover is one of my absolute favorites HOWEVER, the ventilation in the restaurant is SO bad that you stink to the bone after eating there. The smell is so persistent that the clothes have to be washed immediately and the jacket has to be aired for a week. Really disgusting. For this reason I refrain from visiting the store.

The best Afghan restaurant in all of Germany. I have visited many restaurants and none come close to Balkh. The portions are large, the meat is tender and everything is very tasty. Catering has also been served a few times at our place (100 km away from the restaurant) and the food was still warm and very edible. The selection of dishes is also outstanding. I'm happy to drive 100 km for this restaurant!

I would prefer not to give any stars.. was there a week ago and the meat was the biggest crap, sorry I have to write that but it smelled very strong.. the white was okay to some extent but the taste was all 0 out of 10, I can't recommend it to anyone!! Something between a restaurant and a snack bar. I've been there over 30 times and am always satisfied. Both the service and the food at very fair prices are reasons for this. Sometimes there is delicious sabzi, sometimes there are lots of little things. Thank you for the hospitality!

The restaurant has just been renovated and boasts a great menu that combines a low price with a good selection of dishes. You can actually go here more often to try everything once. The portions are huge, so it's best not to order too many appetizers. However, the food is very tasty. Particularly recommended are the lamb shank with dill rice and broad beans (Shebet Baqolah) and the incredibly cheap and delicious Bolani, which is quite large. Unfortunately, we weren't able to try Zarda-Palaw on the Sunday we were there, but we had heard a lot of good things about it and the people next to us actually came from Braunschweig especially for this. The saffron ice cream at the end was also super tasty and a decent portion. At the beginning of the meal, the two of us were given a free side salad and bread. We left completely satisfied and will come back. Addendum: Next time I had the Ash soup and it was pretty tasty. The portion was also good. Then the Negin Kebab with Zarda-Palaw. Both were also delicious and juicy. And of course a large portion.

After the renovation it was just great!

We started with a starter with the Mantus, which are super tasty and can only be recommended as a starter. For the main course we chose Quabuli Palau with Macha and even got a side dish of our choice, the Badenjan (aubergines) are simply fantastic here. There are many drinks, we chose the lemon sharbat, which is not too sweet and very tasty (recommended by the waiter). It was very tasty. The team is very accommodating and accommodates every request. Also a big compliment to the kitchen for the delicious food. We drove here from Hildesheim and didn't regret it. Also a shout out to the young service team who are very nice and always give good recommendations. It's a bit expensive but what do you expect in a restaurant. The meal also takes a bit like 30 minutes but as I said, that's quite understandable in a restaurant. But the starter came very quickly so there's nothing to complain about. We definitely enjoy coming back to eat here again and again

The worst dining experience! The skewer was extremely greasy and inedible! I've never had such bad food in my life. The menu choice was limited. Sambos were relatively ok. All drinks only come in glasses. The service was hectic.

Have been here many times with friends or family. The food is always great, everything is 1A, you can skip the starter of dry iceberg lettuce and dry flatbread, but otherwise it's really great. Waiting times have always been long until now, service was very nice. Clear recommendation.

The worst food I have ever eaten. The vegetables were old and with onion skins, the meat was not cooked, and the service was poor. Was told that they didn't have chicken, but was served something completely different. I asked three times if I can get something else, but was told that they have made spears already. Definitely not recommended.

The service also left a lot to be desired. The staff were inattentive and unfriendly, which negatively affected the entire experience. After the renovation, the restaurant has become a lot better... The food is delicious and the menu is very informative... You can see from the menu which dishes are spicy or contain garlic, etc. The waiters are also friendly...

Delicious food! Everything very well seasoned. Every dish is something special. I usually eat vegetarian food and it's a great restaurant for vegetarians too. The spinach (sabzi) was very good, the eggplant was awesome, the leek filled dumplings were delicious and the lentil soup was also very tasty. Furthermore, the staff was very friendly. I give it a clear recommendation and I will come back more often.

Food 2/5 , supposed to be Indian, but it wasn't good at all, very fluid , chicken didn't have any taste, lots of Kurkuma in the sauce. Service 3/5 nice waiters, but we had to wait 30 min outside for a table. The atmosphere is okay, nothing really special.

Yesterday I was in this restaurant for the first time because a colleague of mine invited me to break my fast there. It was packed and despite having a reservation, it took a while until we were assigned a seat. We were there at exactly 8 p.m. and when we ordered, we asked the waiter how long it would take. We were told that it would take a maximum of 15 minutes. Unfortunately, the 15 minutes didn't turn out as expected and we had to wait almost 1:30 hours for our food to arrive. We ordered a Balkh plate with white rice, fries, mantu and spinach. Plus Sambosa with 2 skewers of Kubide and rice. When our food finally arrived after a long time, the food was almost cold and the meat was almost burnt. They also forgot to get the spinach and another drink. After several requests, they were told the whole time that they would bring it immediately, but unfortunately after another 30 minutes nothing came. That was the first and last time I ate here. Fortunately, there are other restaurants in Hanover that offer Afghan/Persian cuisine.
