Very nice atmosphere - typical student bar in Wuppertal's scene Meile. The staff is friendly and helpful - students for students. The food is average to good - reasonably priced.

What can I say? One of my favorite meeting places in Wuppertal when I meet up with my girlfriend for hour-long conversations and want to drink and eat delicious food. A relaxed menu with super delicious, honest and varied dishes (also vegan/vegetarian) at fair prices

I've eaten here a few times now and have been impressed every time. The salads and cakes are absolutely recommended. The daily menu also always has delicious dishes to offer.

Absolutely fantastic place in the historic part of town to go for breakfast or lunch. The portions are pretty large and very tastefully served. There are vegetarian and vegan options. Quite many choices of drinks as well as great deserts. There are tables outside and waiting area. The service is nice and quick. It seems like it’s a quite popular place in between locals. Definitely recommend stopping by.

A brilliant restaurant with super friendly service. We can highly recommend our appetizer platter and nachos with cheese. There is only one star for ambience because the tables are very close together. There's nothing private then, but we'll definitely come back because the rest just fits 😉

Pretty good! Came here and had a nice meal, for 11,60 it was a very good amount of food too. Would recommend, even though it was busy and people were all over the place the waitresses were very nice with us.

Very unfriendly lady. I wanted to buy a voucher at Katzengold today, I called ahead to see if that was possible today (street festival), yes, no problem, they'll come over. When I got there I was greeted in a very unfriendly manner. I will never enter this store again. Sorry, that's not how you treat customers!

Really nice venue but it is massively unhelpful to arrive at 9:40, 20 minutes before the kitchen closes, and ask to order quickly only to be forgotten and told at five past ten that the kitchen is closed.

I've been to Katzengold several times and for me it's a solid café in the middle of the pack. Reasonable price-performance, service, no outliers in any direction. Until I was there for lunch last week. Service was good even though it was busy and hectic. I ordered salmon with potato gratin, which came in a reasonable time and was well seared - unfortunately only on the outside. Complaints were no problem, the service staff was friendly and understanding. The same salmon came back to me 10 minutes later and was so cooked that there was no life left in it. But I was so hungry by now that I just ate the edible sides, the gratin and the salad. When I paid, no one was surprised about the salmon, 90% of which remained on the plate. No one asked whether it tasted good or whether everything was OK. Completely lost opportunities to turn a negative experience into something positive. That's why I'll do without it in the future and look for an alternative when I'm in Wuppertal for work.

Cult in Wuppertal. After 30 years I was finally there again. Recognizable and new. Definitely good food, very good wine and very friendly and attentive service. All around successful trip into the past and present 😁

Simply nice and uncomplicated! We've been going here for breakfast for a long time and have never been disappointed: good selection, friendly service, delicious food and drinks!

Katzengold is a great place to meet up for breakfast. The prices are balanced, the staff is super friendly. Drinks and food are not only delicious, but also impeccably fresh. The walk to the toilet is particularly entertaining, where not only the frog prince is waiting, but also a stolen and donated piece of steel suspension railway frame. There are choices for vegetarians and vegans. I can recommend all breakfast options. Unfortunately, the restaurant is not barrier-free and the parking situation is difficult. It is therefore advisable to travel by public transport.

It was a Google find and I'm very pleased. The food was delicious, the service was very friendly in what I thought was a quaint location. A lot of people think so, so it makes sense to reserve in advance. You can be lucky even if you have the time. What you should know if you arrive by car: The restaurant is in a residential area with one-way streets. This makes finding a parking space a bit challenging but doable. Thank you for a nice evening with you.

Very fast and great service (in English) for a tea time on the terrace in front of the coffee… The facade is very baroque and we felt like we were out of town. I gladly recommend!!

A cozy café 😁 the selection is large and the prices are really reasonable given the products on offer. You can also pay cashless. The waitress was polite but a little stressed. A lot of crowds, you understand that 😉. Recommended 👍🏻

I can only rate the service here because the food wasn't served. When we entered the dining room, the waitress greeted us without making eye contact with just a "Everything is reserved here!" dumped - no hello, no smile. Unfortunately, you completely lose interest. Luckily, we received a very warm welcome in other restaurants in Wuppertal.

Unfortunately there wasn't enough meat for all guests, so we had a somewhat limited selection on the menu. The service was friendly and the atmosphere is really nice. Very cozy. The taste of the food was okay but nothing special.

Bratkartoffeln waren leider sehr sehr aldente deswegen 1 Stern abzug, super netter Service und das Ambiente toll.

War während eines kurzen Wuppertal-Aufenthalts hier und mir hat die urige Atmosphäre hier sehr gut gefallen. Eine Kneipe/Restaurant wie in alten Zeiten. Für den Preis war die Portion (Kartoffelgratin mit Salat) ordentlich, der Service sympathisch. Und eine große Auswahl an Tages- und Wochenpresse gibt es auch.

Jedesmal, wenn ich nach Wuppertal komme, zieht es mich in das Katzengold. Hier fühle ich mich wohl, das Essen ist gut und originell, die Preise angemessen, das Personal freundlich und aufmerksam. Es ist wirklich zwanglos. Ich fühle mich immer gut aufgenommen und bedient. Falls es jemanden stören sollte, dass ich mit meinen über 60 Jahren den Alterdurchschnitt heben sollte, so tut es mir leid. Ich werde trotzdem wieder kommen. Nachtrag 3 Jahre später im Dezember 2023: Klasse! Jetzt passt der Froschkönig auch noch auf Aschenputtels Pumps auf!

Wir haben hier nur etwas getrunken. Daher kurz und knapp: Ein absolut empfehlenswertes Szenelokal im Luisenviertel mit angenehmen Publikum.

Das Essen ist sehr gut. Vor allem gibt es auch Fleisch freie und tierfreie Alternativen. Der Service lässt keine Wünsche offen. Leider empfinde ich die Räumlichkeiten als sehr laut.

Das Katzengold ist eine Traditionskneipe im Wuppertaler Luisenviertel und immer gut besucht. Das liegt zum einen an der guten Bedienung der großen Auswahl an Getränken und auch dem sehr guten Essen. Es werden in der Regel Tafel Gerichte angeboten die täglich wechseln. Außerdem gibt es Frühstück in verschiedenen Varianten und immer gut angerichtet. Sehenswert ist auch die Toilettenanlage im Kellergewölbe. Hier steht auch ein Flipper aber wer flippert schon ohne Kippe im Mund. Rauchen ist ja leider in Gaststätten verboten.

Spontan diese schöne Location getestet und für GUT befunden🤗. Besonders erwähnenswert ist das obligatorische Glas Wasser zum Rotwein (wie im Süden🌞). Sehr leckere Speisen von der Tageskarte, sehr netter und aufmerksamer Service, gerne ein Wiedersehen im Luisenviertel.

Angesagt zum gechilten Smaltalk. Gute Getränke und leckere Kleinspeisen.

Um ehrlich zu sein, hatte ich das Gefühl, dass dort ein neuer Koch arbeitet. Ich bin schon oft dort gewesen, aber noch nie war das Essen so fade. Schade! Der Service dort ist immer sehr gut und aufmerksam.

Im wunderschönen Luisenviertel gelegen. Im Sommer einfach ideal auch zum draußen sitzen. Es gibt zwar Platzbedingt nicht so viele Tische draußen aber auch drinnen ist es sehr gemütlich. Durch die Tageskarte mit ausgefallenen Gerichten sehr abwechslungsreich und lecker. Kann ich nur empfehlen.

Gestern zum ersten Mal in Wuppertal gewesen und direkt dorthin zum Frühstück. Kellner und Besitzer (?) waren richtig lieb und freundlich, essen und Kaffee kamen sehr schnell und waren mega lecker. Zum Glück gab es auch Hafermilch. Habe mich dort sehr wohlgefühlt.

Die Bedienung war sehr freundlich. Es hat aber ein bisschen länger gedauert, weil das Restaurant voll war. Das Essen war hervorragend! Wir hatten nicht reserviert und zum Glück haben wir noch Platz gefunden :)

Ich kann zutiefst das Tafelspitz empfehlen, wirklich gut. Service hat natürlich aufgrund der vielen Gäste viel zu tun, ist aber ansonsten sehr freundlich. Der Kaffee ist auch den Erwartungen entsprechend und das Ambiente ist zwar etwas alternativ, was allerdings aufgrund der Lage zu erwarten ist.

Ich hatte den Gratin mit Salat. Es war köstlich und sättigend. Zum Nachtisch einen Kuchen, der himmlisch.war 🤌🏻

Laute Musik, der Tee war okay. Alles andere okay, mehr aber auch nicht .

Vormittags war wenig los, das Frühstück war lecker, der Kaffee auch, man konnte in Ruhe lesen und Kaffee trinken. Das Lokal ist groß, die Gäste verteilen sich und es gibt einige ruhige Nischen....

Das Katzengold. Seit Jahrzehnten ein schöner, guter, leckerer Ort um sich zu treffen. Um etwas zu essen, auf ein Getränk oder auch mehrere. Von Kleinigkeiten über Salate, Pommes, Kartoffelecken, Pasta bis zu Steak. Die Essenskarte ist genau richtig groß, da ist für jeden was dabei. Auch bei den Getränken habe ich noch nichts vermisst. Kaffee, Tee, Wein, Bier, Sekt, Cocktails, die richtig zubereitet werden. Hier sieht man das Handwerk. Dementsprechend gut besucht ist das Katzengold. Oft gibt es keine freien Plätze und man muss einen Moment warten. Ich werde immer wieder gerne warten.

Service war sehr unfreundlich,nach der Bitte die Terrassentür zu schließen,wurde uns kunt getan,dass wir eine Jacke anziehen sollen und sie als Kellnerin würde schwitzen.Es gab sozusagen Brötchen auf die Hand am Tisch....nur auf besondere Bitte gab es einen Teller .....wir staunten nicht schlecht.

Tolles Ambiente, nette Bedienung, preislich sehr gut. Wir hatten einen sehr gemütlichen Abend. Man konnte sich gut unterhalten, die Stimmung war tolerant und das Essen gut. Keine Haute Cuisine aber lecker.

Beautiful place to have afternoon lunch with your family and friends. They have several vegetarian options. Fresh food. Great service. Their soup quantity is also quite a lot and yet delicious. I liked lentil rice with raita. I would love to it go there again.

This part of Wuppertal is a dream, it makes you feel like you're in a bohemian part of Paris. I'm so glad it exists. Thinking about the fact that I was eating in the same place where also Pina Bausch used to eat makes me feel privileged. They have a high quality food choice, options for vegans (which is rare in Germany) and all of this for a fair price. Waiters are also super kind and it doesn't feel like they hate their job, as it often happens in Düsseldorf for example.

Wie immer und immer noch einfach schön hier.... Service war sehr freundlich und das Essen lecker. Wir hatten allerdings nur Kleinigkeiten: Brot mit Dip und Kuchen.

Es ist mal gut, dann wieder schlecht. Die Bedienung ignoriert einen und wenn mal im Essen etwas nicht passt, dann wird nur gelächelt.

An Sich ein schöner laden.. leider war das Essen schlecht gewürzt (Geschmackssache) und KALT... das Steak meiner Begleitung war medium bestellt und nicht mal Englisch, ehr frisch von der Weide geholt.. der Beilagensalat, der war echt klasse.. das Personal war ganz okay.. wir sind lieber schnell weiter..

Mein Steak war echt ungenießbar. Habe es Medium bestellt und es war so als wenn man die Kuh grad von der Weide geholt hätte. Dazu war das Essen KALT! Die Pommes ungewürzt und auch kalt. Das einzige positive daran, war der Beilagensalat. Bei der Nachfrage ob das Essen schmeckt, gab es die ehrliche Meinung und darauf wurde lediglich ein Heißgetränk aufs Haus angeboten. Keine Preisminderung, nichts. Sehr unzufrieden stellend. Wir sind dann lieber schnell weitergezogen!

Tried this place after seeing good reviews on TA. Beer good and good atmosphere, terrible slow service and cold food. Soup arrived cold and then the main courses then took over an hour to arrive. Asked for steak well done and it was barely cooked. They knocked the bier off the bill but the whole evening was ruined.

Taken here by a local and wow what a great place. Nice restaurant on 1 side and more relaxed atmosphere on the other. The barman was excellent and spoke fluent English - great !! Beer choice was good and he made suggestions which is always helpful when in other towns. The food was excellent. I chose a salad dish - a small one. He said great choice - great guy and he wasnt lying. The amount was huge - would hate to think how big the large one was !!. A very very nice place to spend an hour or 2. Nice sensible surroundings and calm and relaxed. Perfect

Lots of Specials of the Day that sell out rather quickly on the evening so make sure you get there as early as possible. Simplicity is the philisophy so get the Specials or the the top-end of the menu to avoid disappointment. Again, atmosphere and historic downtown location are great!

Location: central Atmosphere: totally cozy Service: absolutely perfect My boyfriend and I were totally happy to find this place. You can chose your own combination (also vegan) and all were delicious. Very good tea also. Price is absolutely stunning.

We ate at Katzengold on a Wednesday night; we arrived at around 7pm, by 7:30 i was full and gently buzzing. The food is a mix - European is probably the best description - with German, Spanish, French -inspired dishes. The food tasted fresh and was nicely cooked. The menu was in German but the waiter was able to translate where our German failed us and there was a menu printed in Englsih. We had a good North Sea pils to accompany our salmon dinners. A very enjoyable, laid back evening.

"Pretty close to Gastronomy" Thats the slogan of this cozy restaurant and I think its a lie. I've never been served nicer than this. The food was brilliant and you have a lot to choose from with a changing menu every time.

I am originally from Wuppertal and regularly come here when visiting the town (a couple of times a year) and meeting friends. It's always nice and even good to bring along kids. The atmosphere is very relaxed, a bit alternative and the food is always good and non-mainstream. Good for breakfast, just meeting over a coffee, or dinner.
