Donaustuben in Wuppertal

I've known the Donaustuben since my own childhood and was always fascinated by the little houses and caves. Today we were there as a family and, even without a reservation, were warmly welcomed, served courteously and attentively, and had a wonderful dinner at the Drei-Mäderl-Haus. The service is absolutely top-notch and very child-friendly. The wait was short, and our chosen dishes were very, very tasty. I hope this restaurant stays around for a long time!

We've been eating here for years, but the last two times we always had to wait a long time for our food, about 90 minutes. We used to like the food better.

We were in the Donaustuben with a group of 15 people on Sunday, December 22nd, 2024. The food was very tasty, the atmosphere with the houses and caves was special and the service was very attentive. Thank you for a lovely lunch and afternoon!

I'm a regular customer - that says it all.

Very great atmosphere through the individual huts. So you can also have some privacy. The cabins are equipped with a bell to call for service. The food and service are first class. Always my pleasure.

Never seen such a great atmosphere. The food was great as was the staff. The prices are cheaper than usual. The individual houses/tables such as Haus Ulm can also be reserved specifically. The restaurant also has a room for large groups I can absolutely recommend the restaurant.

30 Minuten bis zur Vorspeise, weiter 45 Minuten zur Hauptspeise. Kassler mit Sauerkraut und Bratkartoffeln war eine Enttäuschung. DiePreise inzwischen deutlich angezogn, anscheinend Personalmangel.

The ambience with the separate rooms is worth a visit alone. You feel like you've been transported back in time because, according to our waiters, the situation has remained unchanged since 1968. The food is very tasty, although the portions were quite manageable. Unfortunately the waiting time was quite long.

I'm a regular guest here, but I'm always impressed by the great atmosphere. The service has been the same for years and is really top notch. I celebrated my wedding here, so the food after the wedding, the location opened earlier for me, we had a separate room and the service was extraordinary, we were even allowed to have a cake delivered and they decorated the room really well, the prices went clear. Anyone who has never been here must come here because the little houses in the restaurant are simply great, it is simply a must, anyone who knows it will like to come here again and again.

There were 6 of us in the Donaustuben. We all really enjoyed the food and the service was very friendly. The atmosphere is something special. We'd love to come back!

Mega location! Wow! I've never seen anything like this before and was very impressed by the atmosphere! Especially in December I felt like I was in a Brothers Grimm fairy tale :) The food was great and the service was warm and accommodating! I'm a vegetarian and had a good meal there. We had reserved the small cave and had a really romantic evening. The food was super tasty and the service was top. I have been visiting the restaurant for years and am always satisfied.

We were there on Sunday evening. It was busy, we were informed that we might have to wait a little longer for our food. It took about 50 minutes, which was absolutely fine. The food was top service and the atmosphere in the restaurant was great anyway.

Very good food, friendly and good service

Were invited to our 85th birthday party. It's a shame that the table was very cramped and you couldn't turn the heating down. It was 3 very hot hours. It would be nice if you could still work on it. Otherwise everything was very good.

Restaurant is definitely worth visiting! Unique atmosphere!!! great food! Very friendly staff!!! It's definitely not the last time we'll be there, even if we have to travel far to get there :-)

Today we had dinner in the "Donaustuben" with 10 people. Everyone was very happy, both with the food and the service. There were even 3 vegetarian dishes to choose from, of which I chose one. In my opinion the prices were moderate. All in all, a successful visit to the restaurant.

Let's be honest: what do you imagine when you hear the name Donaustuben? Slightly gray furnishings, service like 'Dinner for one' and etc.? But this does not all apply to the Donaustuben. Yes, the furnishings are just not the most modern and are already a bit old (you can reserve small houses - 4-6 people - or grottos as separate rooms) and perhaps the menu selection is a bit too large, but in the end you will be served with delicious food ( Starter e.g. salad, fresh and tasty) and a great service staff. What more could you want? So a visit is definitely worth it.

Local, food & service with 5*****plus (!!!) We got hold of one of the "caves", had an excellent meal and were served fabulously. (Reservation recommended!) The entire concept impresses with its variety, playfulness and uniqueness: from a small “town” of half-timbered houses, to terraces, XXL wine barrels and log cabins where you can eat in small groups. We chose grilled plates, schnitzel including starter salad and dessert and were served quickly and at any time. (There's even a bell in the caves that helps :o) We particularly liked the generous sauce on the schnitzel. That's why we suspect why (most) of the schnitzels were natural and NOT breaded so that they wouldn't get soggy. Totally delicious! We were also entertained in a very amusing and friendly manner by the waitress, who was also very accommodating. * A small constructive suggestion would just be an overview of the menu (international). We had a bit of difficulty finding schnitzels because they were spread out on several pages by country (?). If this was the case, then there are small flags of the countries on the dish, directly according to country or structured according to "schnitzel, steak, ... etc." a little clearer. :) Thank you very much and we would love to come back!

Top. I like being here. The ambience was so great. (Back then) Went back after a long time....waited almost 100 minutes for the food. Then the meat wasn't cooked as desired...it was taken away, my partner eats alone and was almost finished when mine came back...The mayo from Kraft had expired, so they gave me a bottle of mayo from Metro as a replacement...I gave it when I paid just a “sorry” and no accomodation. We won't be coming back again.

So Wuppertal doesn't have much to offer but this restaurant is awesome 🥰. From the ambience to the food, it's perfect and that's not a fake review.

Unique ambience! As a child (15+ years ago) I went there with my parents and it has remained a lasting memory. Today, as a 33 year old, I still think it's great! The service was extremely good and attentive👌 Unfortunately, the food was a bit disappointing for us (we had vegetarian/pescatarian dishes). The mozzarella wasn't the best and the tomatoes and broccoli also tasted neutral. The ingredients were saved. The salmon was very well prepared! We definitely recommend the visit. Especially for non-vegetarians. The AmEx sticker on the door is incorrect; Payment is only possible with Visa.

Rustic home-style cuisine in a curious atmosphere. Technically there was something for everyone - we enjoyed it. Price-wise, it's also completely okay. Our service was really exceptionally friendly and accommodating. What is particularly interesting about the Donaustuben is the unusual furnishings for today. Here you dine in small houses and caves that are decorated in the style of the various Danube countries and cities. This is really worth seeing and probably unique. A bit out of date, but in a positive sense. We will definitely stop by again!

Very good food in a beautiful atmosphere. In the restaurant itself there are individual houses or a grotto set up in which you sit, giving you your own space. That alone is worth a visit. The food tastes really good. We had shrimp cocktail as a starter. This one isn't particularly cheap, but it's absolutely worth the price! The rump steak in pepper sauce is also recommended, perfectly fried and the sauce tastes homemade.

Nach einer Vorstellung in der Oper hatten wir einen Tisch in den Donaustuben in Wuppertal-Barmen reserviert. Wir waren zum ersten Mal dort... In dem Restaurant sind viele Häuser und sogar eine Grotte aus den Donau-Anrainerstaaten nachgebaut sowie die Speisekarte aus die Donauregion spezialisiert. Obgleich es auch Gericht gibt, die nichts mit der Donau zu tun haben. Alles schon etwas in die Jahre gekommen, aber inzwischen fast schon wieder Retro und dadurch ganz nice. Jedenfalls haben wir uns wohl gefühlt und das Ungarische Gulasch genossen! Die Bedienung war sehr höflich und die Herren im Servicebereich trugen sogar noch einen Anzug. Sehr schön! :)

We've eaten here with friends several times and we've always been completely happy afterwards 😄 The selection of food is fantastic and we always enjoyed it. Of course, convenience food is also served here (unfortunately), but even that tastes good. Not to forget the rustic, unusual interior design 🥰 Update June 15, 2024: been here again after a long time. The ambience has remained, good service too, prices have unfortunately gone up a bit (where not 🤷🏼‍♀️) and the portions have unfortunately also become smaller.

We have been coming here every now and then since the 1980s and have not been disappointed to this day. The food was once again super tasty and the service was very, very friendly! It's always nice to see how the little houses and caves fit together and offer a beautiful atmosphere like in the countries bordering the Danube!

I'm always surprised at what unique restaurants there are in the valley. A shop that I didn't know before. Here you can sit in small huts with your people. You are for yourself. Lovely decorated. The waiters know how to do the job. Always a good saying in stock. Great. But the kitchen also knows how to do it. There were 8 of us and the food was all sent out at the same time and hot. Very good in terms of taste and craftsmanship. A very large menu leaves nothing to be desired. I was fed up.

The food is great, there is plenty of choice for every taste. The place is a bit old, the buildings are positive, it's private, the acoustics are good and you are among yourself. Prices are normal. There were nine of us and sometimes we had to wait longer until someone asked if we could have anything else (drinks). We're going to have a family meal there again.

We were back in the Donau Stuben after a very long time and were overall very satisfied. The service was very attentive and friendly 👍 The atmosphere was good, middle-class and very cozy. You can have a good conversation, not loud at all (like in many other restaurants) The food was good, but there is some room for improvement. A great atmosphere. Service nice and friendly. But the food was far from tasty. Had a Yugoslavian grill plate and was very far away from the grill plate. Zero taste. Sorry for the price, it doesn't work at all. Probably won't go back again.
