The food was delicious, especially the fried potatoes. Unfortunately we were not served in a friendly manner by the waiters. Unfortunately, you can no longer take food with you.

We would like to thank you again for the great service and the excellent food. Despite a spontaneous visit, it was possible to get a table. The food tasted very good.

The price/performance ratio was great and the staff was very nice.

We arrived at the inn spontaneously and things didn't start well. When we asked if we could get two seats, a somewhat strange but visibly noticeable discussion began between the staff, with facial expressions and body language that said, please leave. This isn't a problem if you just communicate it normally. We understand when it is full and we only enter spontaneously. Well...in the end we found two places and now everything was fine. The food was excellent, the service was very friendly, nice and attentive. So, unfortunately, a failed start, but after that everything was fine. We still recommend it, even if the reviews somehow generally suggest that there is a small management problem with reservations, places and processes.

The restaurant is very comfortably furnished. The food was also very tasty. I would just like to see a few more vegan dishes on the menu. Otherwise everything was fine. The prices are also okay and the service was great. We'd love to come back.

Rundum war alles super. Am ersten Abend kamen wir spontan (20:40 Uhr) vorbei, sie ließen uns als große Gruppe (10 Erwachsene + 1 Kind) dort noch Essen und Trinken, obwohl um 21 Uhr Küchenschluss ist und sie um 22 Uhr schließen. Andere Restaurants in der Nähe haben uns leider nicht mehr zum Essen dort bedienen wollen. Das Servicepersonal ist flott, trotzdem am Tisch geduldig, freundlich und nimmt sich Zeit. Das Essen (bei so einer großen Gruppe haben wir ziemlich viel von der Karte probieren können) kam bei allen sehr gut an und es hat allen sehr gut geschmeckt. Wir sind am nächsten Abend wieder gekommen, nur früher, und es war genau das gleiche Erlebnis. Die gesamte Gruppe war begeistert und würde dort wieder essen gehen.

The host who greets guests is quite unpleasant, rude, and completely inattentive, showing some racist behavior toward international customers. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant at all. The quality of the dishes has declined significantly, especially considering how exquisite they used to be. This is why I would rate it so poorly.

Food was tasty, but a little too salty. A highlight for me was the non-alcoholic Hefeweizen. Also worth highlighting is the large selection of vegetarian dishes.

Very disappointing - our first time here was also the last time...the fried potatoes were not freshly prepared but old and unseasoned, the grilled bread was also old and tasted bland and partly moldy. Schnitzel was also old. The food inspector has to take a look here. Not recommended...we won't be back!

After waiting for a while, there wasn't much going on, we left again. Apparently the service was no longer in the mood. Thanks for nothing.

Jena area...city center quite okay...very flooded...partly full. Service very nice and friendly. Food? well...could be better... somehow on the table after what felt like 10 minutes. Whether everything is made from fish...I don't know if you have to look in the kitchen...☺️. But quite okay.

We felt very comfortable, the waitresses were really nice and attentive to me and my 3 year old daughter. The food was very tasty and the atmosphere was very cozy. The next time we are in Jena, we would like to come back.

07/31/24 Update - the best, friendliest and nicest waiter I know, great food without fat and super tasty - thank you very much 😘 After six months of trying again, the fried potatoes are swimming in fat and are soft and wobbly. It's a shame - we say goodbye forever 🥲

I recently visited this restaurant and had one of the most disappointing dining experiences of my life. The service was appalling, and it was clear that the head staff was engaging in unwelcoming behaviour towards our group. From the moment we walked in, we were treated with disdain and made to feel unwelcome as a foreigner. The server made it clear that they expected us to order less, implying that we couldn't afford to dine there. To make matters worse, we were outright asked to leave and go to a "cheap restaurant" instead. This kind of behavior is unacceptable and has no place in any establishment. As someone who values respect and enjoy food we always tip good and bill more than a decent amount, I am deeply hurt and offended by this experience. I urge anyone considering a visit to think twice.

We were very satisfied! There is a great selection of casseroles, soups, schnitzels... Everyone will find something delicious here! The portions were plentiful and the food was served quickly. The atmosphere is very cozy and you have the opportunity to sit in small niches for yourself.

Das positive zuerst. Es hat uns geschmeckt, sitzt wunderbar auf dem jenaer Markt und unsere Bedienung war zauberhaft. Leider waren Teller und Besteck dreckig und im Gulasch war der Verpackungsaufkleber. Praktisch, so wussten wir wann er eingefroren wurde.

Always a must when you are in Jena. The food and selection are great. The ambience is perfect and the service is simply warm. It's best to reserve a table. It's always very well attended.

The potato house mainly serves Thuringian cuisine. I can warmly recommend a visit to the potato house to every visitor from outside Thuringia. You go in hungry and come out full and satisfied. 😉

The food was very tasty, the service was very friendly and I would definitely recommend the restaurant The only problem with our visit is that the front door was difficult for some to close, we sat close to the door and it was cool outside. Therefore it was always very fresh and it was relatively cool for me, which is why 1 star was deducted from the ambience, but on the whole I would definitely recommend it We would love to come back!

We were looking forward to a lovely evening and delicious food. We had inflexible staff and food that wasn't tasty. The chicken fillet could not be exchanged for pork fillet, even for an additional charge. The meat was dry and well-done, the fried potatoes were greasy to the point of being unbearable and you almost had to search in vain for the vegetables among the greasy tubers. The pans with bacon and egg were also extremely greasy and not very seasoned but still ok. The schnitzel was good. shall we come again? not until further notice!

I was in Jena on business and my colleague (comes from there) took me to the potato house… I have to say, it was really tasty and regardless of whether it was vegetarian or not everyone would like it. Highly Recommended!!! If I could I would give many more stars. The waiter here was bombastic, had a quick joke on his lips, and was friendly with all guests, even the little ones. The restaurant is rustic, the floorboards creak and the atmosphere is simply authentic, we really liked it. The food was incredibly tasty and the portions were almost too big.

At a celebration with 7 people, we were well looked after and everyone enjoyed it. The waitress was extremely friendly and the food was good and attractively prepared. Definitely worth recommending!

My business colleagues had dinner at the potato house yesterday. When they asked for a box to take away “the leftovers,” they were seriously left with aluminum foil on their table! The waiter was also very unfriendly. “Rude” were her words. I will not recommend this restaurant anymore! An absolute “No Go”

I have been there two times and foods were delicious in every time. We ordered different dishes (total 6 I tasted), all were nice. Reservation is must, especially evenings.

Quaint inn right on the market. Old-fashioned atmosphere with very friendly and prompt service. Home cooking. I've been there several times and so far everything has tasted great.

Unfortunately, both the service and the boss were absolutely NOT child-friendly...the manners also left a lot to be desired...toilets extremely narrow and not particularly clean...people with disabilities (wheelchairs) hardly have a chance there...everything was very cramped.

A nice, good-bourgeois restaurant

One star is still too many!!! Totally underground service. An on-site request for a reservation was rejected with such arrogance that you just wanted to run away screaming! Apparently this store doesn't need guests! If you're hoping for customer service here, you're definitely in the wrong place!!!!

It's been a while since I've been to the potato house again and I have to say that I really enjoyed the food. Duck with dumplings and Rotraut was very good, as was the grilled pike-perch fillets with potato gratin. The service staff was friendly and thoughtful, the atmosphere is home-style and rustic. I will go again.

Delicious potato-based food, friendly service, rustic atmosphere on 2 floors. Table reservations during peak times are recommended. Not barrier-free, the toilets and the upper floor can be reached via stairs. We always enjoy coming back there.

We ate on site and had previously reserved for 2 people. Everything was very rustic, as you would expect from the potato house. The food was very good and plentiful, although there were a lot of potato slices in my baked cauliflower, but it was still okay. Card payment possible.

The food was good and the service was also very nice. The restaurant was very busy for a Monday evening. I was alone there, which is why I got a spot quickly. If there are several people, I think you should make a reservation.

The food was great and the design was beautiful, but the waiter wasn't very friendly and once tried to bring our food to the wrong table. It was great in itself, but the waiter really ruined the mood.

It's not that easy to go out to eat on a Monday... but the potato house is open. 😀 We've eaten there a few times, each time very tasty. There is also something for those on a small budget. This time we tried two different potato casseroles. It tasted really good. The service is friendly, accommodating and it works quite quickly. Any time. 😀👍

Essen ist absolut in Ordnung. Die Bedienung war irgendwie schräg und hat uns behandelt, als wären wir seine Kumpels. Richtig komisch. Essensreste werden nicht mehr eingepackt. Deswegen mein letzter Besuch in dieser Gaststätte.

This is my FAVORITE German restaurant in Jena and probably Thüringen! Located directly on Marktplatz and Jena is an easily walkable town. I’m not sure what the rest of my group ate, but I had the Eisbein with a side of Thüringer Klöße. I love Thüringen style, potato dumplings and this place does them really well. Everything was excellent. It’s becoming really normal, nowadays, to need a reservation to get into any restaurants in Germany, so plan accordingly. If we hadn’t have had a reservation, we most likely wouldn’t have gotten in.

Das Essen war sehr gut und reichlich. Die Bedienung war sehr nett und aufmerksam. Gern wieder.

Wir hatten nicht bestellt aber durften dort trotzdem was essen (1h zeit) ich hatte würzfleisch mit Pommes was unterirdisch schlecht geschmeckt hat denn mein würzfleisch bestand zu 99% aus Pilzen und Käse aber kein Fleisch, die Pommes waren in Ordnung. Die Bedienung war sehr drängend und teilweise unfreundlich, kann ich nicht empfehlen

Super gutes Essen, die beste Kartoffelsuppe, die ich je gegessen habe! Das Personal ist freundlich und engagiert, das Ambiente im alten Fachwerkhaus gemütlich, rustikal und anregend. Das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis ist überragend, ich würde definitiv wiederkommen und das Restaurant uneingeschränkt weiterempfehlen!
