Well located, came for a work function and enjoyed the meal

I've often been to the breakfast buffet at the Kartoffelhaus and have always been satisfied. But what happened there yesterday, Saturday/St. Nicholas Day 2025, was completely unacceptable, and I'm still speechless. I deliberately waited to write this review so that my emotions wouldn't influence it. To the owner: If you don't have enough staff, you shouldn't accept reservations for every seat!!! The atmosphere was absolutely dreadful—far too crowded, chaotic, and loud. Nothing worked at the buffet: plates, bowls, or cutlery weren't being refilled (only after guests pointed it out)... I won't even mention the food. It was an absolute disgrace! In the end, I paid €16.50 for ONE roll with salmon. Everything else I wanted to eat was always empty whenever I went to the buffet. Unbelievable. Unfortunately, the waitstaff couldn't help it. It was pure chaos, and they were right in the middle of it. Most of them were completely helpless and inexperienced. The good thing for us in the end was that we unintentionally saved quite a bit of money. Since the drinks delivery took over half an hour each time, we drank significantly less than usual. Yesterday was an absolute disgrace for the owner and terrible publicity for the Potato House.

We went here for our work Christmas party and I was quite satisfied. We arrived a little early, which thankfully wasn't a problem. The food didn't take too long to arrive and was quite tasty. I also appreciate that there's a good selection for vegetarians and vegans.

Work event dinner held here. I never met a potato I did not like, so I was thrilled to have dinner here. Terrific menu where everyone in our party, including a vegan, happily found something to their liking. Staff was friendly and helpful. I had the Jägerschnitzel with potato croquettes, which I enjoyed very much.

I’m a 12 year old kid from the United States. The food is very good, I got the potato leek soup and it was very delicious. I definitely recommend. Good vegetarian options but finding parking is hard so you should just walk.

I've known this place since student times thirty years ago, and I've always liked it. So I recently went again, albeit with a larger group and, thus, a limited menu to make kitchen logistics easier. Wasn't bad, but nothing to write home about either. Tomato soup and kartoffelpuffer had a slight touch of convenience. But service was very friendly, and it's a nostalgia place for me, so I'd go again easily.

Nice, large restaurant. All the food was freshly prepared. My burger fries weren't crispy enough, and the sauce was too bland. Otherwise, everything was good!

Very delicious food. If I'm ever in Göttingen again, this will definitely be my first choice of restaurant. The service was very attentive and our food arrived extremely quickly. For dessert, we opted for the chocolate mousse, which later turned out to be an absolute hit: The mousse was very creamy and a real treat! Be sure to make a reservation in advance—it's very popular.

We had Egg and Potatoes and they were delicious. They were prepared very quickly and the staff was very friendly and helpful, especially the owner.

We went there at the request of a Brazilian colleague who wanted German cuisine for dinner. When I first looked at the menu, I was a little worried, as I unfortunately suffer from heartburn. My concern was completely unfounded; the potato pancakes with salmon were fantastically fresh and didn't sit heavy in the stomach at all. My Brazilian colleagues were also absolutely thrilled and thought the food was excellent! The portions are really large, and the food all seemed fresh. The value for money was really very good; we paid around €120 for five people. Personally, I would have preferred a more cozy atmosphere, but that's just my subjective impression. Overall, there really is nothing to complain about that evening.

Super delicious food and great value for money. The ambiance is open, which I personally don't like. The service could be a bit faster. Still, it's definitely a must-visit for German food in Göttingen.

We were there for dinner ordering 2 barbecue burgers and both of there were without the burgers. As we are not German speakers, we thought it was supposed to be like that and that we translated wrong the menu. Then, we checked the photos from google and there was the burgers. We said it to the waitress, she says sorry but we paid the full price for both of them. By the way nothing special!

Vegan mayo unfortunately not the hit

We had reserved a table for two for Saturday evening – several days in advance. However, when we arrived, we were seated at a table that had obviously been spontaneously pulled out from under a staircase. There, we sat off to the side, right by the doorway, with people constantly walking by. The atmosphere was anything but pleasant. Additionally, the children's corner next door seemed carelessly arranged, which wasn't our main problem, but it rounded off the overall picture: uncomfortable and uninviting. We initially ordered two simple beers – but they took forever to arrive. The heat and noise in the room made us feel increasingly uncomfortable. In the end, we decided to do something we've never done before: We left. We were looking forward to a nice evening, but instead we were disappointed and canceled the reservation. Overall, a very unpleasant impression – a shame, but that's just not acceptable.

Definitely worth a visit. It's located in an old house with many rooms. It's certainly great for corporate events.

A few days ago, we ate at Kartoffelhaus with 16 people. The waitress was very friendly and attentive, and when she noticed that some of us only spoke English, she immediately brought us an English-language menu. The meals all arrived together, so no one had to wait while others were eating. The food itself was delicious, hot, and beautifully presented. When we asked if we could have a large portion of potato pancakes, the waitress suggested a double portion. However, since the guest had already ordered an appetizer, the waitress suggested a 1.5-fold portion instead. That was perfectly adequate! The waitress was very attentive. We were all very satisfied with our food and the service. All in all, this restaurant is highly recommended.

Easy to reach. Bare decor, rather uncomfortable, old tiled floor, not even a candle on the table. Maybe nicer outside? Cocktails were okay, but poorly made. We waited 1.5 hours for our food. They apologized and offered us drinks instead. A shame! I've never been there before, but I didn't come with high expectations. Had potato gnocchi, but unfortunately, there were very few vegetables; they certainly didn't use a whole tomato. Other people's burgers sound good. It was definitely better here in the past...

Great brunch, a wide selection, and friendly service. Best way to get there is by train (a 5-minute walk) or bus; there's plenty of parking in front of the restaurant. Lovely outdoor seating.

Friendly service Good food. Also a selection of vegan dishes. I had the Königsberger Klose Vegan (although I'm not vegan). It tasted very good. I highly recommend this restaurant.

We had breakfast. This lasted from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Unfortunately, the food was very poorly refilled, or even not refilled at all. Even when we asked, nothing was changed or brought. The answer was: "We never refill it." It's not busy, and we don't do much... we don't have any more. Also, not everything was there as advertised on the website... if you offer breakfast for two hours, you should have almost everything available during that time.

Excellent service, super friendly, polite, and very competent. All-around good value for money. It's a nice, large, affordable place for delicious German (potato) dishes. Whether for lunch, dinner, or Sunday brunch – the Kartoffelhaus impresses with hearty, freshly prepared food, a cozy ambiance, and a friendly atmosphere.

If you like potatoes, this is the place for you. Even the burgers are served in potato rösti instead of a soggy bun. It was delicious, highly recommended.

We only had a drink but the food was very good according to our table neighbors and they were very generous with their plates.

Garbage and the whole beer garden stinks

Some of the food was forgotten and arrived over an hour late. The food was solid, but there weren't many fries and some were cold. A plus point for the free beer at the end, even though it took too long.

Two of us sat outside and were ignored the entire time, as the waitress with long black hair only attended to the right side of the tables. Even new guests were served immediately, even though there were only three tables occupied outside. After a quarter of an hour, we stood up and said that it seemed impossible to serve us. Our response was, "Well, that's just how it is!" It's a mystery how a restaurant could hire such a waitress. But no problem, we'll just take our money to the competition 😛

Today, on Whit Monday, around 2 p.m., we were strolling through Göttingen and by chance discovered the Kartoffelhaus. We thought, since the food looked delicious, we'd eat there too. We sat down at an outside table, to the left of the exit. After a while, I took the menus myself, which were placed to the right of the exit. After looking through the menu three times and seeing other guests sitting on the right, a waitress came out 😕 She only took care of the guests who arrived much later. Since we'd been sitting there for a while and other guests were already enjoying themselves, we got up and wanted to leave. I asked the dark-haired waitress if she wouldn't serve all the guests and if we could move on. She gave us a rude reply: "Then you'll just have to go." The service leaves a lot to be desired, and it's no surprise that customers aren't coming. The good woman should be fired because there are 100% better employees.

I was dining with a group, and we were given a separate menu so everyone could get their food at the same time. Everything was perfectly prepared, both visually and in terms of taste. I had the curry noodles with chicken and was completely satisfied and full.

Was disappointed again by Kartoffelhaus today. Asparagus with potatoes, it's actually not that difficult, you'd think. The asparagus was very thin, very small, and should have been cooked or simmered longer. The potatoes were industrially peeled and bought ready-made; they were all the same size and round. The hollandaise sauce was from a packet. And for €20 for that? That was my last disappointment there.

Was there again as a guest at brunch on Easter Monday. Top food, great selection, staff absolutely friendly and accommodating! This way you can have a short vacation or a break for your head. It was a complete success

The food was a disappointment, especially the potatoes: hard on the outside and mushy on the inside. The salad was carelessly cut up with ready-made sauce. The beer glasses are not filled to the calibration mark.

It's a shame for the money, but at €31.50 you have to expect something better for the brunch. Especially for Göttingen, we are neither on the Alster nor in Berlin at Alexanderplatz. The quality of the food, coffee and service do not even come close to justifying the price. Maybe they should focus on the essentials concentrate, potatoes.

The potato soup as a starter was really great. Unfortunately, the vegan potato casserole was very bland. The casserole consisted more of vegan shredded meat than potatoes. It's a shame, but overall I was still full.

Their Kartoffel burgers, that is, their meat burgers with shredded French fries, were quite successful. The atmosphere of the seating areas on the upper floors is much better than the lower floors. If you are considering going, I definitely recommend you to make a reservation for the upper floors in advance.

We were warmly welcomed and given a great place. My child was treated very nicely and in a child-friendly manner and the food was extremely tasty. There is an extra children's corner with a few small toys. We felt very comfortable and will definitely come back!

Although we ordered food for 19 people in advance, I was allowed to watch as 18 people ate their food. My food was simply forgotten. When asked, they said it was in the works. That can happen, but if you then have to remind the wait staff to say sorry if the food is delivered more than 15 minutes later than the others, I find that pretty unsatisfactory. When I also ordered sweet potato fries and got a very curt answer, “It might take a while,” I wanted to leave. We also had to wait longer for the drinks. I definitely would have had more than just two drinks that evening. But due to the long waiting time, it was not possible to drink more than two drinks. The first glass of wine I was given was replaced with another glass as I was about to put it to my mouth. According to the statement, it was mixed up at the counter. As I said, anything can happen and I don't normally get upset. There was just somehow too much that didn't go well that evening. And if you call yourself a potato house, the guest must at least have the feeling that the sweet potato fries are homemade. Unfortunately I didn't have that.

After several recommendations from acquaintances, friends and colleagues, I finally managed to stop by here. As a main course I had the BBQ burger which tasted excellent. I also have to congratulate the potato house at this point because they managed to get me to actually eat a burger with cutlery because the burger simply fell apart :-) (as it should be). The service was nice, friendly and attentive and the service was quick. I recommend making reservations for several people because the restaurant is always busy.
