Kälberhalle in Augsburg

A pub brewery located in a former slaughterhouse in Augsburg, serving Hasen beer on tap and brewery-style dishes. When the weather is nice, you can sit in the beer garden outside the pub. The service was prompt and friendly. We'd gladly return.

The food here is excellent, and the dining environment is very good. I thought it would be expensive for such a great restaurant, but I was surprised that there was a happy hour, with main courses and side dishes half price. Even if the full price was very reasonable, you could get half price. So in all cases, I can give this restaurant a full score. The waiters here are very friendly and the food is served very quickly. You don't need to make a reservation.

I was invited to a business event. The atmosphere was fantastic, the buffet was delicious, and the staff was friendly, even though the place was packed. Fantastic!

The ambiance is truly wonderful, which makes me even more sad about what's being done with it. Aside from the fact that my companion's meal was served faster than our drinks, I had to wait 30 minutes for my own dish. I prefer eating together. The service is completely apathetic, no apology, not even a "Bon appétit" or a question about whether everything was okay. In my opinion, the waiters are completely overwhelmed and can't even cope with a light crowd. In the end, you'd be lucky if you were allowed to pay after asking several times. The cleanliness also leaves a lot to be desired. Many tables weren't wiped, and no napkins or cutlery (the few that were there were dirty) were replenished. No salt, no pepper. Our table was still decorated with dried-on food scraps (see picture). Truly unappetizing! We served ourselves at another table where there were still some cutlery and napkins left. Even tapping beer is apparently a work of art in a brewery that hasn't been mastered. The beer arrived significantly below the fill level! While I waited in vain for my food, I observed how the beer is poured there. I didn't know that beer is poured from one glass to another because you can't handle a tap and its foaming. Before the beer reached the customer, it stood for a while, so the foam was gone, and the beer tasted like a glaze from the pouring back and forth. It's truly sad to have to experience something like that in a brewery. When my food finally arrived, which I was then able to "enjoy" on my own, I realized that it was unfortunately just store-bought ready-made products. The hopeful wait was definitely not worth it. It's a real shame what they've done to such a great location. We definitely won't be coming back and wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone!

Unfortunately, the quality of the food has declined significantly. It's just warmed-up convenience foods. The Kaiserschmarren is abysmal.

Wow, that was the worst experience in a restaurant. The blonde waitress was so incredibly rude and incompetent, I've rarely experienced anything like that. They completely forgot about it, and then the starter and main course came to the table together, even though we'd been told beforehand... Without any apology, nothing, they just dumped it there... Everything took forever, and when we asked for cutlery, it took even longer, and the food got cold. Thank you - never to see you again.

The location is very good and nice, the beer garden is decent. Service was very good and attentive. There is usually enough parking. The food was good, but the burger could have been a bit more spicy. The fries, etc., were also very good.

The food was very tasty, but the portions (goulash, creamed mushrooms, creamed chanterelles with bread dumplings) were a bit small. The wait between drinks and ordering food was very long. In some cases, drinks were reordered before we could order food (upon request). Service was very friendly. It was very quiet.

We had a fantastic meal and delicious drinks here. Excellent service. A wonderful evening with the family.

The Haxengrill is a must-order, along with the other two dishes: the half roast duck and the Bavarian roast pork. The pork skin is truly crispy, and the roast duck is delicious. The sauce and red cabbage complement the dish perfectly.

We always enjoyed coming here, until the day the salad was moldy and there was hair in our schnitzel.

Absolutely amazing old building and great atmosphere, just as absolutely abysmal speed of service, we’ve been waiting 20 minutes for 3 beers and 20 minutes to pay. I haven’t tried any food, but the beer is pretty average for 5.20 € a glass, there are a lot of places in Augsburg you can get much much better beer. As a plus, you can buy bottles of beer ok Sunday.

Checks the boxes, service is at the speed you’d expect, food decent but not write it up and tell all of your friends worthy. I’d return.

Great place, best kasespazele of my life and fresh beer. It is severely understaffed and waited 25 mins to get our order in and 43 mins just to pay and go. The staff are very hard working but not enough for such a place

Worst large event I've ever experienced. Our graduating class wanted to celebrate their graduation with about 350 people. When the five of us arrived with our pre-purchased tickets, there were no tables available for us. The completely overwhelmed manager then wanted to seat us separately at separate tables with other families, so everyone would have been sitting alone. The service and customer focus were zero. Professionalism is paramount!

I only had two beers, so I don't have an opinion on the food. It reminded me of the Hofbräuhaus in Munich, a huge hall where you can sip beer. And there's nothing wrong with that, especially when the beer is brewed right in the back. But for a romantic evening with my wife, I'd go somewhere else.

Despite planning weeks in advance, there wasn't enough food available. On top of that, there were outrageous wait times. We highly recommend refusing to plan anything here with a large group.

Visited as part of a very large, but registered tour group. The food was pre-ordered and could have been prepared by the kitchen in a timely manner. The tour group arrived on time. The food was served promptly, but completely uncoordinated. Regarding the dish: the side salad was rather randomly distributed on the plate. Ready-made dressing, anything but a taste highlight. Main course: pollock with potato salad. Another guest aptly put it: it looked like a hospital meal. A dollop of potato salad, a piece of pollock, a dollop of remoulade, a partially cooked cocktail tomato. The breading was soft and mushy, the potato salad was okay. Everything lay lost on the plate, just like you'd expect from a hospital, for example. No lemon (a must with fish). Overall, anything but a good, beautiful dish. It wouldn't have been far to go. But you can also simply make it unloving and sad. What a shame. About the drinks. The location is impressive, including the brewery. But: a stack of Hasenbräu plastic cups at the table. The drink comes in a bottle. Pouring into the plastic cup is the guest's responsibility. And all this in the middle of the brewery! You might think the brewmaster would care about a decent glass. Either that's not the case, or the brewmaster has no say. Then the price of the beer: a half-liter of Hasenbräu Hell costs 5.20. Without a glass, without being poured. And: without a long transport: the brewing tanks are within sight in the hall. Outside the venue, the same bottle of Helles costs 4.50 at the beach bar... Finally, it should be mentioned that in the Kälberhalle, someone was only available to order drinks once, and then not again for two hours. It's a shame for this "lesser" dining experience – given the location and the fact that the admittedly large tour group had been extensively advertised, it was a clear disappointment.

The food is good. The staff is friendly. The restrooms smell strongly of old urine, and old dirt is visible to the naked eye. Despite low customer numbers, there are long waits for drinks.

Today's visit was a real disappointment. It took a quarter of an hour for the first server to come to the table. It took another half hour for the food to arrive. The pork fillet was extremely tough. Can a fillet even be that tough? Visually, it's also easy to suspect that it wasn't a fillet but rather pieces of a chop. The homemade lemonade – usually very good – was completely watery. Unfortunately, the – incidentally very unfriendly – server didn't ask if everything was okay after taking the checkout. So here's the feedback. On previous visits, I noticed that the soap dispenser in the accessible restroom was empty. I reported it several times. But today, again, there was no soap in it. The paper towels are on a shelf: too high for a wheelchair user to reach. Can you use toilet paper as an alternative? Unfortunately, the holder is located in a place that would be difficult for most people with disabilities to reach. The women's restroom had a sticky floor. Even though the calf hall is a beautiful location, our visit there was unfortunately totally unpleasant.

Due to the friendly female waitress and the great ambiance, I can give it two stars. I ordered tarte flambée – and got wafer-thin crispy bread thinly spread with greens...

I (a senior citizen) went for lunch yesterday (Sunday). Conclusion: NEVER AGAIN!!! 1. Reason: Half a beer: €5.20 (a bargain price) 2. Wiener Schnitzel: Poor meat quality 3. No senior citizen prices 4. Despite the perfect weather, there were barely 50 people in the beer garden at lunchtime 5. Long wait times (logical with only one server!)

I've been a regular customer for about 10 years. Some years I was there almost weekly, others rarely. At the Kälberhalle, you'll find the most architecturally beautiful brewery ambiance in Augsburg and the best home-brewed Kellerbier in the region. Certain dishes are very good (e.g., Brauhaus Cordon Bleu or Bayernreindl), while others depend on the chef's mood that day (e.g., Käsespätzle). Unfortunately, the service had declined considerably in recent years, but yesterday I was pleasantly surprised by a new, extremely motivated and friendly waiter named Cengiz. I haven't received such good service at the Kälberhalle in years.

The food and drinks are very good, and the waitress is super nice and always has a good joke. I'll be back.

Bavarian flair in a brewery hall. The atmosphere is softened by wooden partitions between the rows of tables, creating an interesting mix of pub and beer tent. Friendly service. Prices are reasonable and affordable. Parking is available in front of the restaurant.

To your relief, it was the last day of the Bundesliga season and it was busy. Now here's the thing: 1. You should only accept as many reservations as your service can handle, not the number of seats the brewery has available. You were hopefully overwhelmed that day. 2. At 7 p.m., there were no more knuckle of pork left. Okay, it can happen, but it's not nice. The next order was also sold out, which is starting to get embarrassing (you don't have that much food). 3. At a table with 5 people, 4 meals arrived, and the 5th meal was missing. This meal still wasn't there after 1.5 hours and multiple attempts to speak to 3 servers, and we then left it because the kitchen and servers obviously couldn't agree on who was at fault and how to resolve it. 4. This simply shouldn't happen, and if it does happen, I expect more than an apology. A drink or a piece of cake on the house or something similar would be the most normal thing in the world. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. The atmosphere is good, but the staff is clearly not professional (friendly, but incapable of running the business properly). The food is okay, but nothing more. I wouldn't go there again. There are far better places to eat in Augsburg.

My wife waited almost 50 minutes for her soup, but they apologized and offered a shot of schnapps on the house at the end. The beer tasted excellent and was served at the perfect temperature. The sausage salad was too expensive for the amount. The staff was friendly but overwhelmed.

The brewery's pumps were incredibly loud at 8 p.m., pumping and hissing so loudly that you could barely hold a conversation for 25 minutes. We waited 45 minutes for our food.

Unfortunately, I can't give any stars, perhaps because of the service staff, who were outnumbered by such a large number of guests. We registered with around 250 guests. In advance, we were promised the entire menu. Upon arrival, we were immediately shocked: the menu was reduced by at least two-thirds. Then, after four orders, one dish was no longer available, even though we had announced 250 people. Then, in some cases, we waited for an hour for the food. It went on like this the whole time. Some people didn't get anything because of the food. The food itself wasn't good. Canned mushrooms. Who wants that for that price? I definitely can't recommend the place. A solid five and no stars.

The beer is good, there is ice cream and coffee, the waiters are very nice, and the place is big enough.

Reservations had been made in advance for almost 300 people, but most of the dishes were no longer available. If you reduce the menu to five dishes, which is perfectly fine, you should still be able to ensure that everyone gets a meal. It's nothing more than a tourist trap. It's a shame about the beautiful location.

We had a reservation for 5 people (2 children) today. We waited an hour for our food. One of our meals was almost cold, and the portions were much smaller than before. Unfortunately, I no longer recommend it.

The Wiener schnitzel was more breaded than meat, and the service seemed overwhelmed. Half of the menu was no longer available because everything was empty, and some of us didn't get any food at all.

Absolutely overwhelmed when you arrive with 200-300 people! We had reservations. The waitresses were the most pitiful. I would have taken off my apron and gone home. As a restaurateur, you simply have to put in more effort these days!!! The only thing that was halfway decent was the beer.

The menu was reduced to five dishes, and despite the announced reservations, they ran out of food very early on. No alternatives were offered, as they were sold out by then. The response was anything but professional.

Only the service was nice, the rest was just a tourist rip-off. I've never been ripped off so blatantly.

It's a restaurant we always go to. I celebrated my birthday there with some friends. We made a bit of noise, but the staff was always very pleasant. The food was delicious, varied, and reasonably priced.

The biggest disappointment in my life (66 years). The ice cream has nothing to do with the picture, the cream is lumpy and Smarties are missing. Bread three slices moldy. After 15 minutes still no replacement. There is only one sensible response. Never again in my life to this restaurant.

The quality of the food has declined significantly in recent years. Napkins and knives were only available upon request. There were only forks on the table. Waiter got the knives and napkins from the next table so they were missing there. Roast crust with 2/3 pure fat. We used to love eating there.

Very moderately attended on Saturday evening and some of the service people were even overwhelmed. Stopped by again to order - nothing. Salad with rocket, despite an urgent request. The food was put together carelessly and simply. Small portions for the price asked. Let's see how long this lasts. We probably won't visit the store again.

The staff was friendly, but took a while to arrive (even though there was little going on at that time of the meal). Tables not really clean. The food (four different dishes) was lukewarm and tasted nothing special. The request not to coat the liver in flour before frying (for health reasons) was ignored - but the price was reduced as an apology. The onion roast was really disappointing (tough, dry, flaxy). There was a very unpleasant smell in the women's toilets and the cleanliness left a lot to be desired. Conclusion: Ambiance is impressive, but the rest is disappointing. First and last visit - not recommended...

We were your guests for the first time on April 24, 2025 at around 4:30 p.m. The first impression was great, the bar with the brewing kettles in the background is fantastic. The employee behind the bar was very friendly and offered us free choice of seats. Her service was outstanding, fast, extremely friendly and very accommodating. She was even so sweet that she brought our driver a shot glass of water so that he could toast with the three of us. The food was very good, the price/performance ratio was great. Big compliments again to the waitress, she has an exam the week after next and we wish her all the best for her exam.

The ladies' toilet is a stereotypical train station toilet, smells awful, dark and disgusting. It's unbelievable that this is even accepted by the owner and staff. Food was lukewarm to cold, not well cooked (schnitzel breading was partly still "raw"), or cooked for two days (roast), strange cheese patties, burnt onions in it that are slithering on top, long waiting times even though we were there very early, later guests were delivered before us, not enough service staff for the rush, there was no reception at the entrance, why make a reservation if everyone goes in without one anyway. The ambience, the furnishings, really impressive, it's a shame that it's so poorly used. It was our first visit and probably our last.

We were there today for the first and unfortunately the last time. First of all: the atmosphere and the restaurant are great. The service was friendly. The food and drinks came to the table quickly. But: We ordered an aperol and a wheat--> the waitress told us that we had run out of ice cubes today, so far so good.. Then we ordered a holiday soup and asparagus cream soup--> The waiter said that the flädle were out, but that more liver dumplings would be put in the soup. Ok --> then she came, the liver dumplings ran out. At the end there were 2 small semolina dumplings in the very salty soup. The asparagus cream soup was very watery and tasteless, and the roasted almonds advertised on the menu were also missing. We then ordered the burger and the onion roast with cheese sparrows. After about 5 minutes, the waitress stood in front of us again, visibly embarrassed, and told us that there was no burger today... the schnitzel we ordered had no taste at all, and the potato salad and the dressing for the side salads also had no taste and were not good. The onion roast was very tough, had a strip of fat in the middle and didn't taste good, almost all of it went back into the kitchen. And that for 28 euros! When we asked whether we liked it, the waitress told us that she often gets complaints about the meat, but unfortunately nothing has changed. I would advise anyone not to go there. We've never had a restaurant visit like this before. Very unfortunate.

Changing quality of food! From really tasty to just barely possible. It's a shame, it probably depends on which chef is on duty at the moment. But! Staff is currently difficult to find in all sectors. The potato salad with the schnitzel was unseasoned, as if it had been dragged through water. - Neutral like curd soap!

I like being in the calf hall, very good food, if something were to happen it would be fixed immediately in a friendly and professional manner... the staff is very friendly helpful and competent... we are lucky that we have always had the same waiter and after 3-3 visits he already knew what drinks we always order... a very big compliment and thanks to him...

Food was good but waiting time was long

Warm food throughout, several dishes (7) no longer available at 2 p.m. Not even Kaiserschmarrn or ice cream. Kinderschnitzel was the last dish for 16 people. Food was so-so. After complaining to the kitchen, they said they had to take a break. The waiter was then friendly and tried to save what the kitchen had ruined. Toilet smelled. Loud hall. Prices okay but the list of services is poor.

The ambience definitely has a certain charm. From previous visits I know that the beer garden is also very nice in summer. But that was almost it with positive things on our last visit. The service was poor because it was almost non-existent. 2 waitresses for Saturday evening is not enough, especially if one of them is hardly present. Not to mention real warmth. Long wait for food order and until the first meal came. The second meal at the table (we were there as a couple) only came over 10 minutes later. The side salad that came with the first dish only came a few minutes later when we asked. The food was neither particularly hot nor tasty. The tarte flambée was the only dish that was good. The crusty roast in the home cooking range for 9.90 euros had such a tasteless sauce that I had never experienced in a home-style restaurant. The 2 dumplings that came with it were the size of a child's plate, as was the surprisingly small red cabbage bowl, which barely covered the bottom. The side salad, also in the home cooking offer for 3.90 euros, consisted of 4 slices of cucumber, 3 eighths of tomatoes and a handful of leaf lettuce (it looked like it came from a ready-made bag). As a dressing there were a few splashes of tasteless ready-made balsamic sauce. I also find over 5 euros for a 0.4l juice spritzer to be excessive, even if there are beer offers for 3.90 euros. Neither of the two drinks was poured on the mark; everywhere a few millimeters were missing from the promised information. We gave up on our initial attempt to order dessert when no waitress ever stopped by after the food was served, despite hand signals and waves. We then had to do it ourselves to be allowed to pay... Conclusion: It's a shame, the space and the supposedly cheap home cooking appealed to us. If this is the case, we probably won't repeat our visit.

Nice restaurant, super friendly and attentive service. Unfortunately, things look different when it comes to eating. Onion roast was ordered medium rare but was then completely fried, the plate of heavenly happiness consisted of a meatball that was strangely seasoned, which is always the chef's taste, mine wasn't, a slice of roast pork that wasn't seasoned at all and a leg of goose and the chef can now say what he wants, this leg was already waiting for a guest at lunchtime. In short, I don't go there anymore

Great atmosphere in the hall, the food is very good and also cheap. The service is very friendly, but unfortunately understaffed, which is why there are waiting times.

That was nothing. As we all know, tastes are different, but so much money for so little quality is just not good. The worst thing, however, were the toilets. A dish was mistakenly delivered to the next table, which the waitress flatly denied. We should have waited another half hour for the missing dish - under no circumstances! The food didn't taste bad, it was just completely tasteless. With a crusty roast you have to do this first. Absolutely no recommendation.

Brutally disappointing. The lunch service on a Monday lunchtime is such that you wait about 40 minutes for an overpriced meal, which then comes cold, overcooked, tough and stretched out. Dumplings cold or overcooked, resulting in slimy, the meat tough and rubbery and the sauces watery or too thick. Sad, because this restaurant was once an absolute must-visit, we won't be coming back. In addition, you are persistently ignored by the waitress.

Meat was hard and small portion, steak had no taste, watery drinks, everything was very soaked in oil, schnitzel was very tasty but partly raw... :(The service didn't exactly show any interest either.

So the following service was great and friendly but the food was cold, unabridged and the sauce was so thick, the dumplings were only cooked in water and not cooked in salt water. On the whole, the food was simply not cooked with love. One thing is certain: I will definitely not go there again Rossberg

We were there at lunchtime. It really wasn't busy, but we waited what felt like an hour for our food! The salmon definitely died twice... the grilled vegetables were 80% carrots, and the side salad unfortunately had a pre-made dressing! The restrooms are a disgrace. Dark and not very clean! What a shame...
