Unfortunately, the darts area has been allowed to deteriorate. This is incomprehensible, given that the four boards were always occupied and people were eating and drinking there. A little tip: you can get a mid-range board for €40. Just spend €160 and you're good to go...

John Barleycorn in Bonn is an all-round great place for a relaxed evening in a pleasant atmosphere. The location is stylishly furnished - with great attention to detail, warm light and a cozy ambience in which you immediately feel at home. The staff is consistently friendly, attentive and pleasantly quick - you can tell that hospitality is very important here. You immediately feel welcome and well looked after. The beer selection is impressive: a great mix of classics and special varieties that invite you to try them. Definitely a highlight for beer lovers! There is also a lot on offer in terms of cuisine. The menu is varied, the food is freshly prepared and tastes excellent. Whether it's a small snack or a hearty dish - the quality is simply right here. A place where everything fits: atmosphere, service, drinks and food. I always enjoy coming back and can only warmly recommend John Barleycorn!

The menu is clear, but the food is ok to good. The service tries very hard to serve the full store with acceptable waiting times. Most of the time it works well to very well. The atmosphere is usually very pleasant. This pub just tries to make many things possible. Events like pub quizzes run parallel to football, darts are also possible on normal evenings and there are also good parties. Audience pleasantly mixed.

Went to Barleycorn for the pub quiz for the first time yesterday. Large, very nice Irish pub. Bright and friendly furnishings, but still retaining the classic pub style. Employees very nice and attentive. Good beer selection. Great quiz.

The John Barleycorn is a mixture of Irish pub and brewery located in the middle of Bonn's old town. The mix of pub and brewery is very successful. There are pub like counter areas and areas for eating. The ambience combines elements of both. The dishes are correspondingly hearty and based on Ireland. The beer selection is excellent and the whiskey selection is also varied. Recommended.

Left me with a mixed feeling. The selection of draft beers is definitely great, you can really go there for that. The food is normal pub food, nothing special but not bad either. The service was slow the night we were there and not really friendly.

Very cool pub. There is plenty of space to sit. You can play darts and there is a pub quiz on Mondays and Wednesdays. Very nice service and delicious food. A selection of numerous types of beer is also available.

I don't understand why you can't just leave out the guacamole on the veggie burger after explicitly asking (why does that stuff always have to be on veggie burgers anyway?). The scraping was very unsexy. Simply unnecessary. The beer is very, very tasty.

The former Machold always had the disadvantage that it was always very loud due to the high and bare stone walls. Unfortunately, that hasn't changed with the Barleycorn. The bar area is great for chatting, but the noise level in the back “hall” is great enormous. On the evening of our visit we also had a small live combo that played songs every now and then. Basically great, but there were no conversations at all. Therefore a star deduction for the ambience. The food is good, the burgers and sides are a bit plain - but tasty.

We love fish 'n chips and were very impressed here! It was absolutely delicious and especially the fish (cod and not pollock!) was of excellent quality! There is a large selection of beer, even Newcastle Brown Ale, which my British loved one was particularly happy about and I was able to enjoy a delicious cider. A harmonious atmosphere and very friendly staff. We are already planning our next visit because we enjoyed it so much!

Highly recommended if you can find a parking space reasonably close. The menu is not huge, nor are the portions, but very 😋...Drinks good selection. Inside, after buying darts, you can play darts for free, or watch sporting events on the plenty of TVs, or put the tables together and eat with a few other people, or just drink and chat. The waitresses are on the ball and very friendly. Reasonable prices. Gladly again!

The establishment invites you to a communal and pleasant get-together with a little alcohol. The rustic style of the furnishings creates an old-fashioned, yet modern impression that sticks in your mind. The service is very accommodating and fulfills every wish at the push of a button. Clemens is also a real feast for the eyes. Every wish is fulfilled without exception and quickly. Overall, a very harmonious and entertaining place!

Actually pretty cool. The menu is a bit limited, but the burgers are tasty. After we waited over an hour for a free dartboard, new customers started pushing their way forward. That's super annoying. We have now bought our own disc. Thank you for the last visit with you...

It was okay. Service attentive and ambience nice. Unfortunately there is very little choice in the food and the taste is not that high quality. There is a huge “Vegan” sign at the entrance but little vegan selection.

Don't understand the hype. If you like authentic Irish, this is the wrong place. The atmosphere has something of a large canteen. Food OK but overpriced. Staff friendly but not enough, correspondingly long wait for the next drink. The quiz should be pretty good.

Were there after the Christmas party and just before closing time. We were kindly informed by the staff beforehand what was okay. So we could only drink one beer.

The food was very tasty. Service was friendly but we had to wait a little too long for the drinks. And I was forgotten once too. The ambience is great...just like before in the old Machold. They are simply very cozy rooms. I would definitely come again.

Draught Guinness, my favourite, served very well. Thank you. There were four of us for an evening meal we tried previously but they were stacked out the wait made it even better. A great pub with proper beer and proper Pub food I had the Irish sausages which were delicious, we all enjoyed our meals. The service was very attentive but not overly which is great. Thank you for a great evening. We loved it. Oh probably a good idea to book rather than be disappointed.

Nice, cozy atmosphere, but I think 17 euros for a burger with a handful of fries is clearly excessive. It's right and should be that you want to earn some money from it, but you could also offer it for 10-12 euros and still earn enough.

Very nice and clean location! The food is delicious and the beer selection is very good. The service is very attentive and always right there if you want something. The toilets are also super clean and there is nothing to complain about. Addendum: You should probably play Irish music in an Irish pub as it should be. Then it would be even more authentic. 02.08.24 The prices have risen a bit. I don't want to hope that they will shoot up any further...

This was a very large pub with a number of seating areas, indoor, then another big room that was partially roof covered..had about 80 people doing a pub quiz in here.. Then also an outdoor area which parts were covered and others not Nice decor, served food and a variety of drinks Worth a visit as there a number of bars in the area too

I was there with my family for the pub quiz and it was a very nice and entertaining evening. Food was very tasty and so were the drinks. The service was very friendly and always looked after everything.

Cool pub with a nice beer garden.

The ambience is great. Pretty cool staff, there is live music and always nice events. The price is fair for Bonn standards and the drinks are good. In addition to the large beer menu, there is also a good selection of non-alcoholic drinks that are also pretty good. It is sometimes very loud due to the large open hall, but the very nice restaurant and the beer garden make up for that.

Best bar and food establishment in Bonn. The customer service was attentive and the staff was laser focused on giving you a fantastic experience. Food was gorgeous and all homemade. It’s a clean well maintained Irish Bar away from the city centre. Give it a visit you will not be disappointed. Only downside was it’s another business in Germany that doesn’t offer complimentary WiFi to its foreign customers!

It was my first time at John Barleycorn and I have to say I really enjoyed it, great atmosphere, good food which was delivered quickly. The staff was quick despite the full house. Great 5 stars

Probably the best bar in town in terms of beer variety and vibes

My husband had a burger and I had fish and chips. My husband's burger was delicious, as were the fries. Unfortunately, the rather small fish consisted mainly of breading, which I couldn't eat because it wasn't baked through and was wobbly. You could definitely expect more for 20 euros. At my neighbor's house, however, the fish looked nice and crispy and tasty. Unfortunately no one came to ask if everything was okay. I've had better experiences at Barleycorn.

A great Irish pub with a large beer selection! The cozy beer garden invites you to linger and relax in summer 😁.. My absolute recommendation is a portion of Irish Bangers with a cool Macholts Hell!!! The service is always up for a laugh and well organized! Stay as you are! See you soon

The food is simple but delicious. There are lots of beers on tap (8 or 10 - I don't remember exactly, they were too tasty). The staff is nice, courteous and quick. They are not intrusive. There is always live music being played, which is nice. We wanted to chat and found a quiet corner. Summary: We would love to come back. We all liked it equally. The price is okay. We ate, drank and had a whiskey to finish... We spent another nice evening there. And another...

Beautiful location with a lot of charm (being an old brewery, you can still see the metallic barrels). Super kind stuff and tons of activities from pubquizes, free darting (5 spots always available), delicious food, sports and obviously a great variety off beer and whisky. Give it a shot, you won’t be disappointed.

You can play darts and sit in the beer garden in summer :) There is always a pub quiz on Mondays and Wednesdays, which you can register for online in advance.

Was there again yesterday... The reservation by email worked great. The shop was buzzing. The employees had their hands full. The lady who served us had everything under control. Despite the warning that the meal might take some time, it was served quickly. And it was delicious!!! But it's better to point it out beforehand, I think it's great! The beers were also great again and this time at a good temperature. Overall a nice evening. We'd love to come back!

I have a weakness for Irish pubs, this one is big, the beer and whiskey selection is great, the service is good and you can play steel darts for free, even if the boards look pretty frayed. However, it's not exactly cheap.

Queued for 3 hours...now we can't get in...as regular customers it's really a joke!!!!!!! Other pubs also have nice music 😀

We were there with 12 people the Saturday before last and still knew him as Machold. The location is spacious and rustically stylish. Reservation worked great. The burgers and Irish bangers were good, the spare ribs, well. The shop is very busy and I also recommend it and would like to specifically praise Luisa, a cheerful, attentive waitress with patience and a good memory, thank you! Only going to the toilet (ladies) was unpleasant, there was already a strong smell of urine around 7 p.m. and seemed rather unkempt and that didn't get any better as the evening went on. It would be great if that changed!

Good food, very friendly and reliable service meets a great Irish-style atmosphere. Everything just fits. For me the best Irish pub in town. Everything you could want is there and despite the current situation, the bill is reasonable. Will be my regular place from now on! Keep it up!

We have been regular guests at John Barleycorn for over 2 years and it is by far the best pub in Bonn. The atmosphere is very rustic, there is a huge selection of drinks and you can't complain about the food either. You can play darts if you get there early enough and there are still targets available. Just a dream. Respect to the owners!

Was soll ich sagen. Ambiente klassisch Pub mässig schön. Das Personal ist freundlich und aufmerksam. Besonders gut gefallen hat mir das Pub-Quiz. Hat echt Spaß gemacht. Entsprechend gut besucht war der Pub und man musste schonmal auf die nächste Lage Bier warten, was ich aber nicht schlimm fand. Das Essen war lecker und frisch zubereitet (Burger). Auch das Bier mundet hervorragend. Ich empfehle durchaus einmal die verschiedenen Sorten zu probieren. Mein Fazit: Empfehlenswert

Das Basticorn ist so ziemlich das beste was man in der Altstadt und ganz Bonn finden kann! Egal was es ist, das Essen schmeckt einfach immer! Das Guinness ist cremig und frisch und die Bierspezialitäten fein! An der Whiskyauswahl könnte man höchstens meckern, dass man an einem Abend nicht alle durchprobieren kann. Es gibt Steeldart, regelmäßige Pubquizzes, große Fernsehr für den Sport und mehr als genug Platz für alle deine Freunde! Absolut jeder im Service und hinter der Theke sieht gut aus und ist dazu noch menschlich der absolute Hammer! Wenn ihr in Bonn rausgeht gibt es keinen Grund hier nicht aufzuschlagen!

John Barleycorn ist ein wirklich schöner Ort in der Altstadt von Bonn. Das Ambiente ist gemütlich und geschmackvoll, Speisen und Getränke prima und absolut fair im Preis. Die Servicekräfte arbeiten sehr gut und auch gerne- das spürt man. Für Singles, Paare auch Familien sehr angenehm.

Alles perfekt. Atmosphäre, Essen, Trinken, Preise und das Personal machen einen super Eindruck. Unbedingt ein Besuch wert!

Urig schöner Pub mit klassischem irischem Pub Essen, und ganz vielen Tollen Fass Bieren wie Ale oder Sout und Guiness. Toll...nur abends ab 10 Uhr dauert es bei leeren Glässern leider immer mal wieder länger, bis ihr Nachschub bekommt :-)...habt Geduld...
