Great atmosphere and very good service

Great selection of drinks, opportunities to play darts, and the atmosphere is great!

I ordered coke and waited around 30 min for food, if not more. The service of the bar was not friendly. I had a mosquito in my glass and the bartender offered me just another glass, or pay for another drink. Like I put this bug in my glass by myself. That’s just so crazy, I’m in your bar and my drink is ruined by most probably anti-sanitary, and I have to pay for another one again and hope there is no mosquitos in it. 👎👎 and usually I don’t mind that, but I’m eating near those mosquitos 🦟. Bon appetite to people who sits near to the bar 🥰 (Update) Dear Bastian, Let’s be honest the main issue wasn’t about replacing the Coke. It was about the flies and mosquitoes constantly flying around the bar 🪰. That’s not what I would expect from a place that claims to “place great importance on cleanliness.” Also, I did not photograph your staff personally. I took a picture of the bar interior, which is perfectly legal. Your employee happened to be in the background, nothing more. It’s not as if the photo was used for any commercial or defamatory purpose. We visit here weekly with a medium-sized group (8-20 people) to play Magic. I have only good things to say: The communication regarding reservations and the accommodatingness to our other special requests are very positive. The waiters are all very friendly and attentive. Favorite pub, I love going here and take everyone who visits me. Very sociable. When it's full, it can get a little loud, but it's still okay. Great selection, always great service, even if you don't have a reservation!

The former Machhold is now an Irish pub, with prices above average. Football is shown on several screens, and there are also four dartboards.

The brunch with the Caritas company outing was large and therefore relatively loud...it was really well done... Quiz and Brunch

We specifically asked for a well-done burger because my wife is pregnant. The waitress said it's always well-done instead of telling the kitchen. In the end, we got a half-raw burger. The spare ribs were delicious, but for just under €22, a layer of ribs with a small portion of fries (probably less than 150g) and a coleslaw that fits in a small sauce bowl is pretty cheeky!

I always enjoy sitting at the bar for a nightcap in the evening. So far, the staff has always been super friendly and helpful :)

Best Irish pub I've ever visited! Also perfect for darts

The service staff is incredibly unfriendly. Eye rolls, no please or thank you. I would fire the red-haired lady who worked in the beer garden last night immediately. My wife ordered a bottle of sparkling wine for midnight for my brother's birthday. My wife was supposed to order it at the bar. The waiter or bartender with long, dark hair came by shortly after 12, when we were finished singing, without glasses, holding the bottle and asked, "Do you still want it?" I'm sorry, what kind of clowns work in this place?

Unfortunately, the darts area has been allowed to deteriorate. This is incomprehensible, given that the four boards were always occupied, and people were eating and drinking there. A little tip: you can get a mid-range board for €40. Just spend €160 and you're good to go... Update 05/07: My criticism was addressed, and the boards were replaced. Now everything is top-notch again, hence 5 stars.

It's quite nice, and usually not too crowded (except when a pub quiz is being played). The drinks are a bit unusual, but the taste remains consistently good. Nice pub close to the city center and a good starting point for weekend adventures.

Perhaps it was an unfortunate choice of time, as a pub quiz was taking place. As a result, it was very loud, very crowded, and the service was under pressure. The food was edible, but hardly a revelation.

Despite the heat of the day, we felt very comfortable at John Barleycorn. Irish food and drinks, along with a variety of other offerings, made it a successful evening in Bonn. Highly recommended!

Great Beer, nice ambiance and very friendly service!

The Barleycorn is a great place for small to medium-sized groups, but also for a quick drink of stout (or something else; there are people like that, wink emoji). The food is Irish-inspired and delicious; there were 10 of us, and everyone was satisfied. The service is super friendly, attentive, and not annoyed that we paid separately (at other locations: that's part of the job). So, all the stars from me.

The atmosphere was incredibly cozy, and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. Used dishes were cleared away quickly. My husband and I really enjoyed the food.

Best pub ever!! 🙏🏽 We regularly play Magic (card game) drafts here in larger groups and are always greeted and served openly and friendly by all the staff! They even opened up for us several hours before opening time on Whitsun Sunday so we could host an event! All I can say is WOW ♥️! For this openness, I'll gladly order more drinks from you in the future, which are always really good ☺️ PS: I've already had the vegan burger there twice! It was super delicious! If one or two more vegetarian dishes are added to the menu in the future (currently, I think there are two, apart from the side dishes?!), I'll be happy to eat with you more often when I'm not in the mood for a burger. ☺️ Anyway, thank you so much again for your openness, tolerance, and commitment to our community! A restaurant with a very pleasant atmosphere and friendly staff. They opened early for our group for an event, and despite the difficult circumstances (a large group of guests, initially limited staff due to the early opening), the service was always friendly and prompt. The selection of food and drinks is good, and I really enjoyed my salad. I'll be happy to come back.

Awesome place to be! I really appreciate the welcoming staff. I am there regularly to play some card games with a big group, which is not self-evident and I am truly grateful for the opportunity! For me one of the biggest advantages is the warmth towards LGBTQ* community. The drinks are good, the food was delicious and has good portions, for a fair price. A truly lovely Irish pub. You wouldn't believe it's as big as it first appears. There's a huge covered courtyard and then another outdoor area further back. They were having a pub quiz while we were there. A large selection of delicious beers and very fast service. You couldn't ask for anything better from an Irish pub.

Five of us arrived at 9:15 p.m., a large pub, nothing special. It wasn't what we were expecting, so everything was fine. When you want to order something to eat, you get a message saying the kitchen is closed, and you ask at 9:25 p.m. when the kitchen closes, the answer is "9:30 p.m.", then things get a bit tenuous. We left, which is a shame; it could have been a bit more straightforward.

John Barleycorn in Bonn is an all-round great place for a relaxed evening in a pleasant atmosphere. The location is stylishly furnished - with great attention to detail, warm light and a cozy ambience in which you immediately feel at home. The staff is consistently friendly, attentive and pleasantly quick - you can tell that hospitality is very important here. You immediately feel welcome and well looked after. The beer selection is impressive: a great mix of classics and special varieties that invite you to try them. Definitely a highlight for beer lovers! There is also a lot on offer in terms of cuisine. The menu is varied, the food is freshly prepared and tastes excellent. Whether it's a small snack or a hearty dish - the quality is simply right here. A place where everything fits: atmosphere, service, drinks and food. I always enjoy coming back and can only warmly recommend John Barleycorn!

The menu is clear, but the food is ok to good. The service tries very hard to serve the full store with acceptable waiting times. Most of the time it works well to very well. The atmosphere is usually very pleasant. This pub just tries to make many things possible. Events like pub quizzes run parallel to football, darts are also possible on normal evenings and there are also good parties. Audience pleasantly mixed.

Went to Barleycorn for the pub quiz for the first time yesterday. Large, very nice Irish pub. Bright and friendly furnishings, but still retaining the classic pub style. Employees very nice and attentive. Good beer selection. Great quiz.

The John Barleycorn is a mixture of Irish pub and brewery located in the middle of Bonn's old town. The mix of pub and brewery is very successful. There are pub like counter areas and areas for eating. The ambience combines elements of both. The dishes are correspondingly hearty and based on Ireland. The beer selection is excellent and the whiskey selection is also varied. Recommended.

Left me with a mixed feeling. The selection of draft beers is definitely great, you can really go there for that. The food is normal pub food, nothing special but not bad either. The service was slow the night we were there and not really friendly.

Very cool pub. There is plenty of space to sit. You can play darts and there is a pub quiz on Mondays and Wednesdays. Very nice service and delicious food. A selection of numerous types of beer is also available.

I don't understand why you can't just leave out the guacamole on the veggie burger after explicitly asking (why does that stuff always have to be on veggie burgers anyway?). The scraping was very unsexy. Simply unnecessary. The beer is very, very tasty.

Very friendly staff and reasonable prices!

The former Machold always had the disadvantage that it was always very loud due to the high and bare stone walls. Unfortunately, that hasn't changed with the Barleycorn. The bar area is great for chatting, but the noise level in the back “hall” is great enormous. On the evening of our visit we also had a small live combo that played songs every now and then. Basically great, but there were no conversations at all. Therefore a star deduction for the ambience. The food is good, the burgers and sides are a bit plain - but tasty.

We love fish 'n chips and were very impressed here! It was absolutely delicious and especially the fish (cod and not pollock!) was of excellent quality! There is a large selection of beer, even Newcastle Brown Ale, which my British loved one was particularly happy about and I was able to enjoy a delicious cider. A harmonious atmosphere and very friendly staff. We are already planning our next visit because we enjoyed it so much!

Highly recommended if you can find a parking space reasonably close. The menu is not huge, nor are the portions, but very 😋...Drinks good selection. Inside, after buying darts, you can play darts for free, or watch sporting events on the plenty of TVs, or put the tables together and eat with a few other people, or just drink and chat. The waitresses are on the ball and very friendly. Reasonable prices. Gladly again!

The establishment invites you to a communal and pleasant get-together with a little alcohol. The rustic style of the furnishings creates an old-fashioned, yet modern impression that sticks in your mind. The service is very accommodating and fulfills every wish at the push of a button. Clemens is also a real feast for the eyes. Every wish is fulfilled without exception and quickly. Overall, a very harmonious and entertaining place!

Actually pretty cool. The menu is a bit limited, but the burgers are tasty. After we waited over an hour for a free dartboard, new customers started pushing their way forward. That's super annoying. We have now bought our own disc. Thank you for the last visit with you...

It was okay. Service attentive and ambience nice. Unfortunately there is very little choice in the food and the taste is not that high quality. There is a huge “Vegan” sign at the entrance but little vegan selection.

Don't understand the hype. If you like authentic Irish, this is the wrong place. The atmosphere has something of a large canteen. Food OK but overpriced. Staff friendly but not enough, correspondingly long wait for the next drink. The quiz should be pretty good.

Unfortunately the projector interrupted the picture every few seconds, so it was of course difficult to follow the football game, but the service, food and beer were absolutely fine

Were there after the Christmas party and just before closing time. We were kindly informed by the staff beforehand what was okay. So we could only drink one beer.

The food was very tasty. Service was friendly but we had to wait a little too long for the drinks. And I was forgotten once too. The ambience is great...just like before in the old Machold. They are simply very cozy rooms. I would definitely come again.

Draught Guinness, my favourite, served very well. Thank you. There were four of us for an evening meal we tried previously but they were stacked out the wait made it even better. A great pub with proper beer and proper Pub food I had the Irish sausages which were delicious, we all enjoyed our meals. The service was very attentive but not overly which is great. Thank you for a great evening. We loved it. Oh probably a good idea to book rather than be disappointed.

Nice, cozy atmosphere, but I think 17 euros for a burger with a handful of fries is clearly excessive. It's right and should be that you want to earn some money from it, but you could also offer it for 10-12 euros and still earn enough.

Very nice and clean location! The food is delicious and the beer selection is very good. The service is very attentive and always right there if you want something. The toilets are also super clean and there is nothing to complain about. Addendum: You should probably play Irish music in an Irish pub as it should be. Then it would be even more authentic. 02.08.24 The prices have risen a bit. I don't want to hope that they will shoot up any further...

This was a very large pub with a number of seating areas, indoor, then another big room that was partially roof covered..had about 80 people doing a pub quiz in here.. Then also an outdoor area which parts were covered and others not Nice decor, served food and a variety of drinks Worth a visit as there a number of bars in the area too

I was there with my family for the pub quiz and it was a very nice and entertaining evening. Food was very tasty and so were the drinks. The service was very friendly and always looked after everything.

The ambience is great. Pretty cool staff, there is live music and always nice events. The price is fair for Bonn standards and the drinks are good. In addition to the large beer menu, there is also a good selection of non-alcoholic drinks that are also pretty good. It is sometimes very loud due to the large open hall, but the very nice restaurant and the beer garden make up for that.

Best bar and food establishment in Bonn. The customer service was attentive and the staff was laser focused on giving you a fantastic experience. Food was gorgeous and all homemade. It’s a clean well maintained Irish Bar away from the city centre. Give it a visit you will not be disappointed. Only downside was it’s another business in Germany that doesn’t offer complimentary WiFi to its foreign customers!
