Japanese in München

It looks like an authentic Japanese ramen shop, but the owner is no longer Japanese. The ramen tastes like instant noodles, and the soy sauce base is particularly strange.

We went to Shoya in the afternoon and both ordered Tonkotsu Ramen with an extra egg each. The ramen itself: tasty, but the noodles were unfortunately thinner than usual. The service was quite entertaining: the friendly lady took half our order, then went to the table behind us, and returned as if nothing had happened. Modern-day ordering ping-pong. Then came the moment to pay: €50.30 for two people. We hesitated. On the bill: two half eggs, €3.50 each. Itemized as "rice" – not "rice," but "rice." Whether that was a typo or some secret gourmet concept, we don't know. Half an egg for €3.50? You really hope it was at least from a happy, free-range hen. We asked about it. The answer: "That's correct." Well, there you have it. We paid, my friend tipped us €55 – the tip was just a thought experiment, wondering what a whole egg would have tasted like.

No major Highlight honestly speaking! The atmosphere is pretty cold and the smell from the cooking and frying is not helping. The food is good. No coup de cœur but the ramen I have ordered was recommended by the chef on the menu and it tastes ok. Overall, this place is quite overrated due to the proximity of the Hofbrauhaus and massive mass of tourists all around. It is nevertheless very affordable and can still be considered for a quick lunch…

Nicely styled and tasty Asian meals. The place offers a mix of most common dishes from the area, so I believe that everyone would choose. The portion didn't look that big, but it was actually quite enough.

It used to be good. Not anymore. What happened there? (Change of ownership?) The sake donut had a strange garlic sauce (it doesn't taste Japanese anymore), the ramen tastes like something from a frozen food store... Huge disappointment. Never again.

Good Japanese eatery in the city centre of Munich. Pricing is higher than outside of the city centre but this is to be expected. Portion sizes are generous and well flavoured. We had a selection of sushi, udon and ramen and all was great. Takeaway is also available and portions seemed to be consistent with dine in.

The woman with glasses who served us was unfortunately very unfriendly and odd. From the very first contact, she seemed annoyed and spoke in an unpleasantly loud tone, at times even shouting. Her behavior was completely inappropriate for someone in the service industry. She created a very unpleasant atmosphere and pretty much ruined our visit. It would be better to employ service staff who are friendly, respectful, and calm with guests – especially when it comes to direct customer contact.

Surprisingly, the two ramen dishes we ate were much better than expected. They're definitely worth sharing with everyone. 🫶

A very understated and cozy sushi restaurant near the Hofbräuhaus Munich. Very friendly and traditionally dressed staff, and the food... Simply WOW! First time trying sushi donburi. Incredibly delicious if you like sashimi. Everything else (kimchi, edemame, etc.) was just as good. If you're craving sushi and the like and are wandering around Munich, this is the place to go. Thanks again!

We were thrilled with our visit to Shoya at the Hofbräuhaus in Munich! For our starter, we had spinach with sesame (Horensou Gomaae) – simply outstanding! Fresh, perfectly seasoned, and beautifully presented. The "Fried Shrimp Roll" as a main course was equally delicious: crispy, juicy, and perfectly balanced in flavor. To finish, we tried daifuku – a wonderfully sweet, delicate dessert that rounded off the meal wonderfully. All the dishes were not only incredibly delicious, but also beautifully presented – a true feast for the eyes and palate. The service was friendly, attentive, and very fast. You feel completely at ease and well looked after. Highly recommended – we'll definitely be back!

Cozy Asian Spot in Munich Visited a friend in Munich and told her I was craving Asian noodles, so she brought me to Shoya Restaurant. It’s a cute, small place with a cozy atmosphere and friendly staff. Most of the menu items contain pork (non-halal), but the team was really kind and accommodating — they prepared a special seafood fried noodle just for us. Really appreciated their effort and hospitality!

We had sushi and chicken with rice. The sushi fell apart if you looked at it sideways and wasn't that special. The chicken was good, and so was the salad. The restaurant has little to no decoration and is decorated only with poor pictures of the food, which don't look very inviting. The service was okay, but I wouldn't necessarily go back here.

The store doesn't show up on Maps, €5 for 5 spring rolls is a rip-off, and the fried chicken tastes like it was just bought from the supermarket.

I can recommend it to anyone who enjoys authentic Japanese cuisine. The food was incredibly delicious, the portions were generous, and the staff and owners were very friendly. I also love that they offer takeout if you're in a hurry.

I was really satisfied with the ramen I had here at Shuhoya am Hofbräuhaus. 🍜 The broth was rich and deep, yet not greasy, and the crispy fried chicken and duck paired perfectly with it. The vegetables, especially the bok choy, bean sprouts, and seaweed, were fresh and added a refreshing touch to the broth. It's not easy to find authentic Asian ramen in Munich, but this one was perfect for Korean palates, and the portions were generous, leaving me feeling full. As a Chinese tourist in Munich, I tried the ramen at Shoya am Hofbräuhaus and was pleasantly surprised! The broth was rich and smooth, the barbecued pork was generous and tender, and the accompaniments were fresh, especially the wood ear mushrooms and soft-boiled egg, which were truly authentic. The portion was generous, and one bowl was completely satisfying. The atmosphere was cozy, and the service was fast. Highly recommended for those in Europe craving the flavors of Asia!

Came here with my wife and we had the wagyu ramen and the red onion tuna roll and hot sake. Everything was fantastic. Couldn’t ask for more with food quality. Absolutely delicious and will come again when next in Munich for sure!

While visiting Munich on a business trip, I had ramen at "Shoya am Hofbräuhaus." The pork bone ramen was rich yet well-balanced, with a fragrant sesame flavor that made it an authentic dish. The pork slices were tender and the boiled egg was perfectly soft-boiled, making it very delicious. The bowls and spoons were very Japanese, and the atmosphere was great. I was impressed because I never expected to find ramen of such high quality in Germany. If you're in Munich and craving Japanese food, I highly recommend this place!

Food is something you make at home. Gyoza was oily, and the ramen was tasteless, noodles are not good, the pork is like cardboard. Not recommended.

At first glance, Shoya seems rather unassuming, but what a pleasant surprise! I was absolutely thrilled with the quality of the sushi: The fish was extremely fresh 🐟, of the highest quality, and perfectly prepared. You can immediately tell that great importance is placed on freshness and craftsmanship. Every piece was a delight 🍣 and the taste was of the highest standard. A restaurant that could easily be overlooked, but is one of Munich's true insider tips. I'll definitely be back! Unreserved recommendation! ✅✨

It's hard to say. If you want to eat normal ramen, don't come here. It's not tasty. Their ramen is plain noodles and the rice is microwaved and tastes hard.

They charged us €14 for four small glasses of tap water. They were real scammers. The food was nothing special.

Meal is an average. All meals are deep fried. But the most important thing is the cleaning issue. Even glasses were dirty, I do not even talk about wc.

The sushi wasn't bad, we had a spicy tuna roll. We order udon bowls and they were all bland and so salty. We were so thirsty immediately after eating the food. We couldn't really finish it.

I ordered a bowl of chashu ramen. The pork was very chewy, the seaweed on the noodles was thick, the soup was very salty, and the noodles were just average. The waiter was just average. I was asked to go to the table twice, but the waiter was very polite. The place was small, so we sat at a small table for three people. It was just average, but the price was reasonable.

Abysmally slow. When we entered there was only one table waiting. Food took 30-35 minutes from ordering to arrival which was bad because we allocated an hour for eating and a few other activities assuming eating would take a total of about 35-40 minutes. The reason was that they produced all noodles serially one at a time and also served some later arriving customers before us. Quality was OK, typical of Japanese ramen and udon you can get in a Western country.

The worst Japanese restaurant I've ever tried. The food was oversalted, like salt is free these days, the doner was overcooked, the beef and onions were charred, and there was hardly any salt. The tenpura and yakitori tasted like frozen stuff from the supermarket. And what about the salad next to it, adapted for Europe? I like to see pictures. Just because they're real Japanese (I don't know if they even are) doesn't mean they can cook. This is the most worthless 50 euros I've ever spent. The service isn't motivated at all. I don't understand how such poor quality still gets 4.6 stars.

The food is very good (a bit salty for me). Friendly staff, there is a nice souvenir shop opposite. However, the restaurant has quite a few flies, hope it can be improved.

The food was truly delicious. The price was reasonable for the location and the portions were decent. But the service was, unfortunately, an absolute disaster.

We had dinner at this place one evening for dinner. We ate very well, with generous portions and very fresh fish. The gentleman who served us at the table was very kind, and even though he didn't speak English we still managed to communicate, also because the menu has many photos, so it's quite intuitive. The price is average for a quality dinner.

Had noodle soup with duck which was very good. The sushi was also good but the nigri was crazy expensive. Maki was ok price. The water should be free (tap water) but cost at least as much as drinks/beer (which is therefore better to take).

The food and service were OK, but the nightmare happened when I checked out. The owner said €55 in German and gestured, and I was very confused at the time, because I only ordered a sushi set for €28.9 and ramen for €14.5, which was only about €43 in total. I thought it was an additional service charge, so I handed over the €50 in my hand, took out a €5 coin from my pocket, and asked to see the bill. The owner suddenly said that €50 would be fine, and gave me €0.1 in change. I didn't understand the owner's behavior at all. At this time, I just took out €5, and the owner took my €5 and changed it for a €5 note, and then handed me a bill. I was even more stunned. Because the series of actions were so strange, I immediately checked the bill and found that it was a bill of €52.7, and the food on it was several bottles of beer and other food, which was not my bill at all. I immediately confronted the owner, and he said that he had miscalculated the bill and returned €7 to me. Even if it's not intentional to cheat, it still causes a lot of confusion. It would be bad if I drank two more beers or couldn't do arithmetic. Having said that, the owner's smile is nice, but customers should pay more attention when paying.

The tempura coating lacked the light, crispy texture I expected, and instead, it felt heavy and floury, as if not fried in panko (paniermehl). Additionally, the roll was so loosely wrapped that it fell apart while eating, making the experience quite messy. Overall, the quality did not justify the price. I hope the restaurant can improve on these aspects.”

They serve Pepsi instead of Coca-Cola. When I've asked, the lady tried to convince me that Coca-Cola changed it's flavor treating me like I'm stupid. Also, the cup came with lipstick marks. So we will definitely not be back. Edit after Response: I was there last Saturday, just wrote the review on Sunday. Yeahs, treating your customer again as if I'm stupid. Not really surprised anymore....

We've been there every time we've been to Munich and have never been disappointed. The food is delicious and the staff is super friendly. The only criticism is that it's on a street where there's always something going on and it gets very busy (depending on the time of day).

It’s no secret that most Japanese restaurants in the city are not open by Japanese. I take this cause I care more about Japanese FOOD people make than WHO makes it. I got disappointed this store has such high rating tbh, cause it’s basically same food that I get from the Vietnamese restaurants near my house (I ordered beef dong) 😅. Anyway, I just feel like people should know what they are seeking for before get disappointed. Just frustrated to spend more than 40 euros on some food not worth it.

I used this restaurant when I was on a business trip. It's located on Umaimono Street in Nagoya Station, but the taste is not out of place. The tonkotsu ramen in particular is excellent.

We came later in the evening, the restaurant had actually already closed and only offered take-away orders. But the owner was so friendly that he served us anyway and the drinks came super quickly. We weren't expecting much and were then surprised with a Shusi ship, which tasted great, the portions are really good to fill you up and also beautifully prepared. Top recommendation, I will go there again.

If you don't care about the difference between basmati rice and Japanese rice, you can eat a slice of pork neck instead of chashu, you can eat there. Asian fusion but not Japanese. Snack! The quality of the ramen noodle borders on instant. It's a shame I had hoped for more at this address.

I showed up 5 minutes before closing (yes, I was that guy..ugh) They were very accommodating and didn’t pressure me to hurry, so 5 stars for service. Sushi was exceptional. Best ive had in Germany. So, really have to give this a 5 star all around. Ok, so if you are in Japan, you would have more variety… but this is not Japan and the quality was amazing. I will say sake was different. Not bad or good. Just not what one would expect (see photo). It did not take away from the experience.
