A great Greek restaurant in the center of freiburg with excellent and variety of fresh food and a very friendly customer service. The environment its great you can celebrate any occasion, specially romantic for its deco. Highly recommended.

Service and ambiance are good. However it's missing a lot of traditional greek food and quality it's just ok for the price. Go to greece you will see a big difference. Where are black olvies, feta and halloumi for ex on the dish ?

A truly great Greek restaurant! The food was delicious, freshly prepared, and generously portioned—you'll definitely leave feeling full and satisfied. The Olympia platter for four is especially recommended: absolutely sufficient and also quite reasonably priced. The staff is extremely friendly and attentive without being intrusive. The atmosphere is elegant and pleasant; despite the high volume of guests, the noise level remains comfortable—you can have a good conversation and simply feel at ease. Tip: Be sure to make a reservation on weekends, as the restaurant is very popular! In conclusion: A visit to Irodion is definitely worth it—great food, fantastic service, and an all-around harmonious ambiance. 🇬🇷

It was my first time there, and it was quite good. Unfortunately, the food was way too salty. The baked gyro was good, but extremely salty. The gyro on the platter was also good. The souvlaki was good, though. Unfortunately, the fries were also too salty. Which actually made it borderline bad. The tomato rice was okay. There are better options, but it wasn't bad. The appetizer salad of green salad and white cabbage was good. Overall, it was satisfactory, but not a highlight. And I'm a real fan of Greek food. The service was nice, but unfortunately, they didn't ask if everything was okay or if they wanted something to drink or something for dessert. A big no-go for me. The ouzo was room temperature 🫤 One thing that was very unpleasant was that it was just way too loud. The atmosphere was almost like a cafeteria. It's only pleasant at the first few tables in the entrance area. So if so, then there.

I went there for dinner with my daughter-in-law, son, and grandson (15 months old). The ambiance was lovely and tastefully decorated. The food was very good and served by friendly staff. I would especially like to emphasize the child-friendliness. We would be happy to come back. Thank you.

Given the price-performance ratio, I wouldn't go there again. The meat doesn't taste that great, and the salads aren't fresh... no, it just doesn't taste good.

The staff wasn't unfriendly, but they were also just sober and businesslike, not very inviting. The food was mediocre. Not recommended for vegetarians. The saganaki was simply a warmed-up convenience food, and the baked zucchini was too expensive for the amount. The meat-eater at the table wasn't satisfied even with his simple gyros. Unfriendly and unprofessional! The Irodion was our favorite Greek restaurant in Freiburg for over 15 years. A place where we celebrated birthdays and made wonderful memories. Unfortunately, the owner seems to have changed. The staff is new. About two men in black T-shirts. We were "served" by a blond, slim "gentleman" in casual clothes. He was not only unfriendly and rude, but also dismissive, inattentive, and incompetent. We were treated with such dismissiveness and coldness that we almost asked if everything was okay. The wait was very long. No service at all. Even though we wanted to pay separately, a joint bill was created and slapped on the table, so we had to use our calculators and calculate our respective shares ourselves. We were then accused of making the wrong calculations. This restaurant, known for its hospitality, has unfortunately become such a rude and incompetent establishment that after 15 years we are saying goodbye and will never go back.

I remember Irodion from before, and unfortunately, the food now has nothing to do with the Greek food of yesteryear. The meat was far too dry and tough, and the fries were raw. If I could, I wouldn't have given it a star for this quality. Sorry, but we won't be coming back. It's too expensive, too.

We only got takeout. But the Rhodes platter for two people got us through the week.

I was there for lunch recently. The other reviews don't seem to be up to date. Because: neither the salad is Greek (no pepperoni, feta cheese, or olives, just lettuce with a kind of "French dressing"), nor is there tzatziki with the gyro. Both would have to be ordered separately. For me, though, it's Greek "essentials." If you like it that way, go ahead, but it's not my thing. Addendum: Perhaps more interesting than my criticism is the restaurant's reaction (see below): - In this "Greek restaurant," they apparently don't know the difference between a yogurt dish like tzatziki and a garlic sauce. - They respond to objective criticism with personal attacks.

Absolutely not recommended. Not because of the food, but because of the arrogant waiters, especially the head waiter. It's always bad when a waiter or waitress thinks they're superior to the customer. Absolutely outrageous!!!!!!!!!

My husband and I were passing through Freiburg and had dinner at the Irodion one evening. The service was outstanding, and the food was also excellent. We'll be happy to return when we're back in Freiburg.

We went there for my birthday in February and waited more than two hours just to order. The waiters also asked us every five minutes whether we were ready. The restaurant has completely changed compared to last year.

We were there for lunch in December. We had the gyro plate with tzatziki. It was delicious, perfect gyro and tzatziki! We'd be happy to go back, highly recommended! Nice atmosphere. Update: We were there for lunch again at the end of May 2025. It was just as delicious, and we'll be back when we're in Freiburg!

Spacious rooms with a beautiful, listed coffered ceiling. The staff are well-dressed and attentive. A pleasant lunch menu and, of course, a selection of grilled dishes in the evening – typically Greek. The new owner brings good ideas and flair. We enjoy eating there and, in addition to the culinary delights, enjoy the tranquil peace and the time-honored ambiance. Highly recommended.

My favorite Greek restaurant for 5 years now. Service and food quality are top and the prices are absolutely reasonable. You can tell from the staff that they enjoy working there. And that is transferred to the satisfaction of the guests. The only thing to complain about is the company holidays. But the employees were granted that. So that's not a point of criticism, but it's unfortunate during this holiday season - there is no adequate alternative in the area. Or you have to go to Krozingen. Keep it up!

Were here often before. Unfortunately, it hasn't convinced us the last few times. Meat was tough in some places, portions became smaller and prices rose disproportionately. As is well known, price-performance ratio plays a major role when visiting a restaurant.

Here is a short report: The restaurant was consistently impressive. The kitchen offered a good selection of dishes that were good both in taste and appearance. The service was also remarkable - attentive, friendly and professional. The quality of the food left nothing to be desired, so the visit was a complete success.

Nice ambience, good service, courteous staff and super delicious food. We were thrilled far beyond our expectations and would be happy to come back on our next visit to Freiburg.

I've been going to this restaurant for 30 years, unfortunately the quality has declined with the change of tenant. Tomato soup and lamb were ok, souvlaki and gyro meat was dry, unfortunately there was no more ouzo as a nightcap. Conclusion… bottle empty I didn't expect you to remember your customers. However, you should take my average rating of our visit to your restaurant, table 25, 5 people, €166 later, seriously, as it was an impersonal and neutral rating of your service and was only intended for those interested in your restaurant, but rather for people who are considering a visit to your restaurant. The best in Freiburg. I've been going there for about 15 years. Even with the new owner, it’s a top address in Freiburg. Food is always freshly prepared and generous. All the employees were very, very nice. Please keep it up.

The food was good. We reserved a table where we arrived on time and were told that we canceled the appointment ourselves, which is not true at all. Waited over 45 minutes for food. The young lady was rude and ignored us several times. We'll never go there again Answer to your justification. 1. We waited 15 minutes until a table was available. 2. I think you didn't read the reviews correctly, I wrote that we waited 45 minutes for food and that's how it is! 3. We certainly didn't admire your magnificent ceiling. You mixed it up. 4. Your employee ignored us several times and it had nothing to do with language skills or nationality. 5 If you're already talking to Uzo, we didn't have a reception like all the other guests. But at the end as an apology for the long wait. With a real Greek it is common to get an Uzo when shot. Normally you are offered a drink or coffee as an apology. Super nice restaurant, great friendly and fast service. The prices are reasonable, the food was delicious. In advance, we shared a starter plate for one person (and were given a second plate without any problems).

Great atmosphere and ambiance. Typical Mediterranean fish food with olive oil, parsley and garlic. The service and the waiters are perfect and unobtrusive. In one word, I am delighted and I will come back again.

Very tasty gyros. I can only recommend it. Price/performance is great! My absolute favorite Greek. Addendum September 2024: After the tenant changed, the prices increased significantly. Now they are “normal” instead of cheap. As a result, I won't eat gyros as often anymore. The quality and taste of the food is still at a very good level. Even if the portions have become a little smaller, you will still feel full. Tip: be sure to order the pita bread with it, it tastes great. The service is very nice and accommodating. Great service!

Neuer Besitzer, sehr ausgezeichneter Übergang, seit Jahren sind wir Stammkunden. Das Essen schmeckt mittlerweile ein Tik besser. Irodion gehört zu Freiburg wie das Freiburger Münster und ist mit Abstand einer der besten Lokale in Freiburg, ich würde sagen, sogar das beste Lokal in Freiburg und Umgebung. Der neue Besitzer macht es viel besser als der alte Betreiber. Bravo, weiter so 👍

Great lunch, good value for money, parking spaces right in front. The turkey skewer tasted great grilled, only the rice as a side dish was very little, you won't get full of it here, there could definitely be more side dishes on the plate.

Been regular guests for decades. Despite changing operator, very satisfied. Great that the chef was taken over!!!! We've already had several nice evenings with the new operator, it's very nice that there are no longer any loud discussions like there were with the previous operator. Lunch is also highly recommended, or if you want something quick in the evening. Prices absolutely justified!

Ordered a gyro for lunch, the meat was juicy, well seasoned and well fried. The service guys were very professional and quick, always with a smile on their faces. Gladly again, highly recommended.

When the waiter handed out the cards rather listlessly - starting with the men at the table and the women last - it gave a bad impression. A short time later, a schnapps was placed on the table without a word. It was clear to me that it was an ouzo. Nevertheless, as a guest, I would be happy if you could briefly tell me what you just brought there. For three out of four people, the main courses were insufficiently seasoned and lackluster. Either the cook didn't feel like it or he couldn't do any better. It should also be noted that when ordering, when asked, it was pointed out that the Metaxa sauce always contains mushrooms. I know it differently - but if the Metaxa sauce had been good, I could have overlooked it. Unfortunately the Metaxa sauce was also poor. I enjoy the service of many great Greek restaurants across the country and know what I'm talking about. When the waiter approaches the table every now and then and realizes that the glasses are empty and simply turns around again, the verdict was finally made. We won't stop here for dinner again. Unfortunately that was nothing.

Unfortunately not recommended. Visited spontaneously and ordered a mixed cold starter to take away. Waited 25 minutes for it. I thought the octopus salad was calamari. 2/3 of it onions and peppers. Same with the bean salad. 1 slice each of fried eggplant and zucchini (cut crosswise, not lengthwise). Add 2 tablespoons each of eggplant salad, tzatziki and taramas. Taste rating 4 (sufficient). 1 grape leaf stuffed with minced meat, tried and not eaten. The pita bread - 1 small flatbread, about 15 cm - was charged extra at €3.50. I'm happy to accept the price in a restaurant, but not for take-away. Addendum Dear owner, thank you for your answer, and it's a shame that you find my comment "unnecessary". It's true that I didn't pre-order. All the tables in the front part were empty, which didn't seem "busy" to me. The atmosphere is very good. I ordered grilled octopus, seafood platter and apple juice and orange juice, which cost more than fifty euros. Maybe a little salty? But I think it's delicious. It’s a big plate and very filling! The store clerk's service attitude is also very good.

It's a shame, after the previous operators quit, all that's left is the old interior. We have always enjoyed coming here for 10 years, we knew many of the staff, we received friendly service, we were given an ouzo and the prices were also cheaper. More than the 19% cheaper. This weekend we were there again, the staff served, I can't say loveless or bad, but it's also not how you would like to be served in a restaurant so that you feel welcome. The ouzo at the beginning is only half full, and when you eat here you don't leave with the feeling that you would like to come back, but with the question of where you should go next time. Except for a few dishes, everything is still on the menu, there just weren't any lemons left, but the prices are up nicely and I'm expecting more. We wish the previous operators all the best and that the new operators have a little more “heart” in them. In this sense, we unfortunately have to agree with the comments that were less positive.

Food is okay, service is too slow, ambience is like that

Wir haben hier sehr gut gegessen und getrunken, die Qualität der Speisen ist einwandfrei, die Getränke ebenfalls! (Empfehlung: Metaxa 7*) Wir hatten zu zweit die Vorspeisenplatte und die Irodion-Platte beides für 1 Person wohlgemerkt, und haben es geradeso, wenn auch nicht restlos, geschafft Die Oktopussalate sind eine Wucht, die Dolmadakia (gefüllte Weinblätter) ein echter Gaumenschmaus, und auch der Bohnensalat, Zaziki, Auberginensalat, gebackenen Gemüse... Die Leber ist nicht zäh, sondern zart, der Suwlaki-Spieß und das Lamm ein Traum, sogar der Reis ist gut! Zu Trinken alles von Kir Royal, Hauswein, Ouzo bis Metaxa super Es gibt nichts auszusetzen, man muss nur auf große Portionen gefasst sein, dann relativieren sich auch die Preise, wir haben am Ende zu zweit mit 5 Getränken, Vorspeise und Hauptgang um die 60€ gezahlt

When we arrived we first thought the restaurant was completely empty. And that on Good Friday? If you take a few steps in you can hear that it can't be empty. The service showed us a table straight away and was also very knowledgeable about allergens. The dolmades weren't my highlight, but they were definitely tasty. And the lemon sauce was very tasty. The dolmades got a real flavor boost when I squeezed the included lemon over them. The meat was really great. Juicy, not chewy and very flavorful. All in all a great restaurant with a very good price/performance ratio.

3 stars for the delicious food, but waiting 1.5 hours for the food is not possible!!!

It was worth making a few extra strides off the centre to find this cozy Greek restaurant. Attentive staff and delicious food! Highly recommended to visit!

The food is very tasty, but there were 12 of us at the same table and the food came at different times. I didn't like that. I think the kitchen should ensure that everyone can eat together. With 12 people, that must be possible. I thought that was a shame, some of them had already eaten and others had to wait until their food came, so it took a lot of time.

We were regular guests at Irodion for decades. However, last year we decided not to go back because the service and friendliness had declined over the years. Yesterday we wanted to eat No.59 again after a long time and spontaneously decided to go there to give the Irodion another chance. We didn't know anything about the change of ownership until now! We immediately noticed the relaxed atmosphere among the employees; it was a lovely evening. We were served extremely friendly, no matter who came to the table. The food was great, very large portions, had to have the rest packed up. We will come back !! We didn't notice the price increase until today when I looked at the menu online to see if anything had changed in the offering. To be honest, we don't care if the prices are raised, we don't eat out because of the price. But because of the very good food and the friendly staff. What makes us happy is that it is obviously still the same chef, and we hope that he stays for a long time or then passes on his recipes 😀 P.S. The new boss and his team seem to be doing the Irodion well, and we look forward to coming back soon! And it doesn't matter what nationality 😀 People are people and remain people ❤️

Leider sind die vorherigen Besitzer wohlverdient zurück nach Griechenland. Wir waren so gerne dort ..Jetzt sind es gar nicht mal mehr Griechen .Wäre wenn das Essen gut wäre auch noch zu akzeptieren..Jedoch..Essen , Service alles nicht mehr gut ..Wir werden nicht mehr wieder kommen
