Absolutely unacceptable. What they served as “biryani” was nothing more than vegetable pulao. We ordered chicken and lamb biryani, and there was almost no meat at all—just rice and veggies. This is straight-up misleading. Anyone who knows even the basics of Indian food would be insulted by this. Calling this biryani is a joke. It has no flavor, no aroma, no authenticity—nothing that resembles real biryani. Restaurants like this ruin the reputation of Indian cuisine, misrepresent our culture, and spoil the name of our country’s food. If you don’t know how to make biryani, don’t sell it under that name. Total waste of money. One of the worst Indian food experiences I’ve had. Never coming back and definitely not recommending this place to anyone.

The staff was, as always, very friendly and attentive. The food was excellent. The portions were generous and delicious. The mango curry lamb and the butter chicken are highly recommended. You can usually get a table even without a reservation.

Open from noon on Christmas Day. Friendly service, good quality food. Credit card payment at the table was no problem. Prices have increased considerably (as is the case almost everywhere else). After paying, the children were given lollipops, a nice gesture, but unfortunately a point of contention for our little ones.

Despite having a reservation, our table wasn't ready. We were then shown to the brightly lit basement. Despite some initial small talk, the service was superficial and artificially friendly. Everything seemed rushed, a pure mass-production approach. While explaining the "mixed appetizer platter" (all fried food on iceberg lettuce), the waiter poked at it with his fork. I almost ended up with the plates from the main course in my face. Unfortunately, not very professional. The food was tasty but nothing special. There are simply too many Indian restaurants these days. The rice would have been better served in a closed bowl (to keep it warm). We weren't even asked if we wanted dessert or additional drinks. The payment was then handled standing up in the middle of the hallway upstairs in a packed restaurant – very unpleasant. Overall, the shop seems to rely more on its location and likely high foot traffic from tourists at the cathedral square - I didn't feel any commitment to quality or hospitality here, which is a shame.

My brother and I (from Berlin) have visited this restaurant for the second time. The service was friendly, the food and drinks were very good, and the atmosphere was lovely. Everything was also clean and well-maintained. Definitely highly recommended! 💖

Friendly, fast service. The appetizer was delicious, as was the naan, but unfortunately the main course had an unpleasant spiciness and didn't taste good.

A fantastic Indian restaurant. We had various curries, both with and without meat. Everything was absolutely delicious. And the naan bread served with it was amazing. Thank you so much!

Decent food. Service carried the experience. If I’m being straight to the point, this meal lands at about a 3.5. The flavors were good, but nothing screamed authentic. The paneer (cottage cheese) was the biggest letdown—firmer than it should’ve been and not the soft, fresh bite I expect in a proper matar paneer. The curry itself had nice seasoning, but the texture of the cottage cheese held it back. The rice was well-cooked and aromatic, and the naan was soft with a good char, easily the most reliable part of the plate. The salad and sauces did their job, though they didn’t add much excitement. Overall, it’s an okay thali—vegetarians won’t regret ordering it, but they probably won’t rave about it either. Now, the highlight: the service. The staff were genuinely friendly, attentive, and on top of things. They’re the reason the experience felt better than the food itself. Bottom line: decent meal, great service. Not the best North Indian thali I’ve had, not the worst—just comfortably in the middle.

Good food, lots of it and tasty

I really liked the restaurant. The atmosphere was authentic, the service was great, and the dishes were incredibly delicious. I was there during the day and chose one of the lunch menu options, a full plate of flavorful Indian food with spices that truly made me feel like I was in India. My meal cost €12, which was very reasonable, and the service was excellent. I highly recommend this place!

We came here on Saturday lunch time. Fod wise it was good but not as authentic as it should be. The spices were not as sharp as it should be as we always eat indian food back in middle east so we knew the taste thougj it was good to be fair. Gulab jamun was like only flour balls dipped into sweet syrup. Fish curry. Butter chicken and mutton curry were all good. The restaurant when we went had a lot of flies. They should've anticipate. They are in hospitality so flies are super unnecessary. Their complimentary with sauces were good and the complimentary juice was good than the actual iced tea. Overall if you're craving for an indian food you can try here. But don't expect to be as authentic as they were

We had an exceptionally good meal! The location and ambiance were top-notch, and the prices, selection, and service were also excellent. We didn't need to make a reservation, but better safe than sorry. We're looking forward to our next visit!

Super delicious food. Highly recommended. I had bihindi masala with okra. Very mild yet full of flavor. My children loved the chicken tika masala. My wife had the masala with pineapple. Really good. The kitchen welcomed us with thin caraway bread with dips and apple juice, and to finish off, mango cake and a small dessert. The ambiance is very Indian. The music might not be to everyone's taste for constant blaring. A successful conclusion to a day trip.

ATTENTION (edit): Restaurant is taking legal action against negative reviews - I would never eat here again! It's outrageous to be treated like this. I'm reducing my rating from two to one star. The food is okay and plentiful, but in my opinion, the seasoning is far too weak. Compared to many other Indian restaurants, it's simply not very spicy. The staff are unfortunately unfriendly. The restrooms are also dirty, which only distracts you with the lack of light. The prices are simply too high for the service and taste.

The most delicious Indian food I've had in a long time. Both the fish and chicken tandoori were so tender and delicious. Excellent! Pair with a good Indian white wine. Definitely recommend.

A popular place at lunchtime for inexpensive Indian food.

I was passing through Erfurt on business and stumbled upon Bombay quite by chance – and it was a stroke of luck. I had the butter chicken with naan bread, and I can honestly say: It was the best butter chicken I've ever eaten. Perfectly seasoned, creamy, with fresh ingredients – absolutely top-notch. The naan was fluffy, fresh from the oven, and perfectly rounded off the whole experience. The service was attentive, friendly, and yet pleasantly unobtrusive. A clear recommendation – if you like Indian food (or want to try it), you should come here.

Very good Indian food with very tender chicken. The food was well seasoned and had a pleasant slight spiciness. The dishes were good value for money, but the non-alcoholic drinks were a bit pricey.

Das Bombay besuchte ich schon mehrmals, bevorzugt am späten Nachmittag, da ist es ruhiger. Es ist stilvoll eingerichtet und im Außenbereich hat man einen direkten Blick auf den Dom. Die Bedienung ist sehr nett und es wird auf individuelle Wünsche eingegangen. Da ich selbst indisch koche, kann ich beurteilen, dass das (vorwiegend nordindische) Essen sehr authentisch ist, insbesondere, wenn man original indisch scharf und nicht europäisch bestellt. Es gibt auch viele im Tandoori-Ofen zubereitete Fleischgerichte (Lamm Huhn, Fisch). Es ist sehr reichlich und was man nicht schafft, gibt es eingepackt für zu Hause. Allerdings spreche ich nur für die vegetarischen Gerichte, da ich selbst Laktovegetarier bin. In Indien hat diese Küche immer noch einen sehr hohen Stellenwert. Empfehlen kann ich das Palek Paneer, das Bhindi Masala oder das Paneer Mango Curry, das ist dann nicht scharf. Aber die Zunge kann man abkühlen mit Mango Lassi -lecker.

Das Essen und die Getränke waren einfach super schönes Ambiente gerne wieder. Ich kann es einfach nur empfehlen. Der Service ist sehr zuvorkommend.

Beautiful Indian restaurant, right on the cathedral square in Erfurt. Good Indian cuisine, with great and cheap lunch options. And the whole restaurant smells nice of spices that make you curious about the food. Went here for dinner in the evening but unfortunately forgot to take photos of the dishes. Classic Indian cuisine, and it was delicious and plentiful. The portions and value for money are right here. Extremely friendly service, and a beautifully decorated restaurant with nice tables. And a beautiful view of the cathedral square. Clear recommendation 😃

We found this excellent Indian restaurant in the picturesque city center of Erfurt with a view of the cathedral and the picturesque backdrop around the market square. We weren't disappointed. Unfortunately my stay in Erfurt was only short-lived otherwise I would have tried many more delicacies. Here you have the opportunity to stop off at a reasonable price from midday onwards.

Ok, it's rare that I call a place down but this place with its table service was not as welcoming as I expected, rather rude when we asked for starters availability (answer was "None" sorry!!) The the plates came to the table in their little candle burners... Unseasonal to taste, bland, boring, just not up to the menu price.. Great appearance, however poor service and below standard taste ... And when it was time to pay, our waiter seem to have vanished until we chased him down to clear our table and pay our bill... They served us a mango shot which was to cover the rather poor experience..

The boss and his team have been doing excellent work for decades. Bombay should now be an Erfurt landmark. I've eaten here hundreds of times and can recommend it to everyone!

Mittelprächtiges Essen, nix Besonderes. Das mit dem Mattar Paneer servierte Naan Bread schwamm in Öl, der Salat schien in eine Fertigsauce getränkt zu sein und der Geschmack des begleitenden weißen Raita (?) ließ sich nicht recht definieren. Innen ist das Restaurant nett, wenn auch dunkel eingerichtet. Vermutlich landen hier aufgrund der unmittelbaren Nähe zum Dom die meisten Touristen, die indisch essen möchten, obwohl es nur wenige Meter entfernt ein deutlich besseres Lokal gibt, das mehr Einfallsreichtum bzgl. der angebotenen Gerichte beweist und dabei günstiger ist. Ein Mango-Lassi kostet im "Bombay" sage und schreibe 5,50 €, obwohl es auf der Online-Karte mit 3 € beworben wird.

One of the best Indian places I've ever been to. The food was super tasty, some of it was authentically Indian, and it didn't take long until the main course was served ;o) Prices still good, friendly service/owner, nothing to complain about here, recommended for anyone who likes the food. Lunch is also available for under 10 euros.

It was a very nice evening and everything was great

I went with my friends to this restaurant for lunch. We were welcomed, and the restaurant looked amazing with a lot of Indian themes and the toilet was very clean. We were people with 2 kids, and we also got a high chair for both. As drinks, we ordered Mango lassi, which was the best we had from there. SO the hopes for the food were high. We ordered lamb vindaloo, tandoori chicken, chicken tikka masala, panner mutter, chicken ghee, Bombay biriyani, and chicken biriyani. Every main course came with rice and a naan. Lamb vindaloo wasn't spicy and lacked flavors, chicken tikka masala, mutter paneer, and chicken ghee were just ok. Both the biriyani were a flop, chicken biriyani tasted like chicken khichdi and Bombay biriyani was like Spanish paella which had all meat, still khichdi. Usually, biriyani comes with a raitha, and there is no raitha or salad for the biriyanis. when we asked for one, they charged 4€ for the raitha. The tandoori chicken was presented the best in the sizzling pan but was the worst, there was no flavor at all, just red-colored chicken. The vegetables that came on the side of tandoori chicken were not fresh, and when we complained, the waiter said, "We cut those in the morning." They didn't even replace it with some fresh veggies. In short, we would not go back here again as the food was not authentic indian.

Nice restaurant and well located. The service is friendly, if a bit rushed. The food was good. But I have also eaten better Indian food and I know Bhatura differently and not burnt. Chicken Tikka was delicious and so were the pakoras. The prices are higher than usual compared to Bombay Berlin, Sagar Geldern or Garden of India Wernigerode. Nevertheless, you can recommend the restaurant with a clear conscience.

I ordered chicken biryani and instead of that I got veg-biryani with chicken in it. They had capsicum, potato, broccoli and beans. And we requested the waiter to make it spicy and it was like a kheer 🥲. We were 9 guys and we all were not satisfied with the food.

Quiet, in the very center of the city. Lots of free places. Delicious food and huge portions. Prices are average. Waited a little long for the order About 30-35 minutes. There are parking spaces across the street. Up to 10 seats. Come - it will be interesting

Located directly on the cathedral square - extensive menu - tasty and plentiful - what is not done is packed up - also with an inexpensive lunch menu - delivery to your home is also possible - the only disadvantage is the toilet in the basement

You can sit comfortably in the spacious, friendly restaurant, attentive service, and a varied lunch menu between €9 and €13. Fast service, adequate portion, delicious in taste. Drinks are expensive - as is now common practice (unfortunately). Glass of tea for €3 is ok. Clean toilets. I'll be happy to stop by again on my next visit to Erfurt.

Quite a good Indian restaurant with a nice atmosphere, nice staff and clever food.

Our food was well seasoned and very tasty. The main course came very quickly and the service was very friendly. Each main course is served with naan bread, three sauces and rice. I would be happy to recommend the restaurant.

We asked if it was possible to eat outside, and a table was given to us in a friendly manner. Fast service, delicious food and the Indian beer on tap is also a treat for the palate.

Service was good, but a little disappointed with the food. Chicken in the Tika Marsala was undercooked and Jalfrezi was bland, not much flavor and spice. Vindaloo was not hot enough.

The vegetable options with Paneer were quite disappointing. The sauce was one of the worst I've tasted and the Paneer didn't have any taste whatsoever. Only the Naan was quite good and I was glad it was included in the (high) price. I'm afraid I really can't recommend it and I'm sure Erfurt has more to offer for less.

Indisches Essen ist Geschmackssache und variiert von Restaurant zu Restaurant. Hier jedoch war ich etwas enttäuscht. Einige der absoluten Standardgerichte waren nicht auf der Karte zu finden. Qualitativ habe ich auch schon deutlich besser gegessen. Schönes Restaurant, aber die Kellner wirkten reserviert. Mir hat hier ein bisschen Herzlichkeit und Gastfreundlichkeit gefehlt. 

Indian food is a matter of taste and varies from restaurant to restaurant. Here, however, I was a bit disappointed. Some of the absolute standard dishes were not on the menu. The quality of my food has also been significantly better. Nice restaurant, but the waiters seemed reserved. I was missing a bit of warmth and hospitality here.

The food was quite bland but generally tasted good. Naan bread can be reordered free of charge. Server was attentive and it was clean.

Despite promises that the dishes ordered would be prepared allergen-free, severe symptoms appeared shortly after consumption.

We had reservations at the Bombay. We were 2 wheelchair users and 6 other people It was really problem-free, we got a large table. When the food was ordered, we were able to make additional requests without any problems. E.g. If 2 people wanted to share 1 meal, there were 2 plates and the food came on an extra plate and it was more than enough for 2 people!! The prices were also very good for the quantities of food and the variety And if there was anything left over, it was packaged well and you could take it with you

Unfortunately, mass processing is what is present throughout the entire visit. Fast service, stopping to eat quickly and then making room for the next guests. The food was not very spicy, Indian is something different. Once and never again.

Go there and you will only find out good things. Again and again. Delicious 😋

Palak paneer was good and the banana lassi

I don’t know what they gave me for chicken Biriyani. The Biriyanis I’ve had never had this look or the combination of vegetables. No fried onions, the whole dish feels wrong sadly. The chicken was undercooked. Only had one bite of the chicken but I’m hoping i won’t get sick.

So I'm currently still in the restaurant and I'm completely satisfied, the food tastes good. The waiting time was also great. And the service is great too. If I'm in Erfurt again, I'll definitely come back.
