I can really recommend this pizzeria to everyone 🫶🫶🫶 I haven't eaten such a very good pizza for a long time ☺️ The last time I had such good pizza was in Italy.🇮🇹 Really great 👍 taste over the top 💐💐💐 Thank you so much for such a great pizza, I will definitely come back 🧡🧡

Good value for money - friendly service.

Six of us spontaneously had dinner there on Sunday. It was very tasty! We had various types of pasta and pizza. The pizza dough was super tasty and well topped. The service was super nice and left nothing to be desired. We would love to come back on our next visit to Mainz! The only suggestion left is to perhaps offer fries to the younger guests.

Unfortunately, this time the typical leopard spots of Neapolitan pizza were badly burnt, resulting in a bitter aftertaste. A positive highlight is the relocation of the entrance area, which benefits the ambience. Since I was there at a less busy time this time, it was pleasantly quiet. The service was friendly, courteous and attentive. A small point of criticism is the toilet rooms, which are a bit cramped due to the limited number (one women's and one men's toilet). This is probably due to the size of the restaurant. Additionally, I would like to note that I find it unfortunate that Il Pomodoro only offers a few vegetarian and no vegan alternatives. There is certainly potential for more variety, especially in the area of ​​vegetarian dishes. It would also be desirable if vegetarian dishes were more clearly marked on the menu to make them easier to recognize for vegetarian guests. Despite the criticisms mentioned, I can still recommend Il Pomodoro. However, compared to other restaurants with similar offerings, I still see room for improvement. Old review: The pizza here is definitely something to be proud of. The taste is authentic and the quality of the ingredients is good. The dough is nice and airy and the toppings are fresh. However, the ambience and service leave a lot to be desired when compared to other pizzerias. When the house is full you feel more cramped and the service seems overwhelmed. The price level is okay, but could be adjusted a bit given the atmosphere and service. It seems like you're trying to fit as many guests as possible into a small space, at the expense of individual attention. The location is central and ideal if you are traveling in downtown Mainz or want to do something after dinner.

The pizza, pasta and beer were all very delicious. The taste of Italy without being salty! The portions are large enough to fill you up. There is no English menu, but it is not difficult to look at the menu, but there are so many menus that it takes a long time to think about it. Recommended when you are tired of salty German food^^

I went to the pizzeria today and was absolutely thrilled! The first impression was promising - a cozy atmosphere and friendly service. The starter was a delight: fresh, refined and prepared with a lot of love. An excellent wine was served that went perfectly with it. But the best was yet to come – the pizza and pasta were simply a poem! The pizza dough was perfectly crispy, the toppings were high quality and the taste was excellent. The pasta was also cooked to perfection and the sauce was simply perfect. Overall a success – we will definitely be back! Absolutely recommended!

I have ordered pizza from Il Pomodoro twice so far. The delivery was very quick and worked perfectly. The toppings and the pizza dough itself are also super tasty, but unfortunately on both occasions the pizza dough on the bottom was so burnt and black that it was inedible. This meant we had to leave half of the pizza behind. It's a shame because I actually think the quality of the ingredients and the price-performance ratio are good. That's why I would like to suggest that you don't bake the pizzas for so long or that you don't set the oven so hot.

I was very excited to try an Italian restaurant for the first time while on my 2 month work trip here. I was very underwhelmed. First the wine was great. I ordered the Chianti and loved it. But that’s where the love stopped. I then ordered a Neapolitan pizza, thinking it was a tomato and mozzarella based pie, it wasn’t. It came with kale and was a white pizza. While this was surely due to not speaking German and not being able to read the menu. I thought Neapolitan was universal but it’s certainly not. I only ate a slice because it was 100% not my preferred flavor profile. While unfair to the restaurant since it’s what I ordered, and was cooked well, I just didn’t enjoy it. I then ordered the bruschetta to try and help fill me up and it was mediocre at best. I make 10x better at my house in 5 minutes. Lastly, I felt like I was at a Brazilian nightclub with the music they played. I really thought this was going to be a great Italian experience being that this is the closest to Italy that I’ve ever been. I was hoping that it would be like going to a Mexican restaurant in the states. But it was not. I will be trying a different spot next. I’m determined to find an authenticate feeling Italian restaurant while I’m here.

Our dinner at the Il Pomodoro restaurant on December 28th, 2024 Let's start with the positive, the pizza was very tasty, the salad was OK. That’s it! When we arrived at Il Pomodoro, a man kindly opened the door for us, similar to a star restaurant, which we were very surprised about. After we sat down at our table for two, it was clear to us why. Shortly after we ordered, a team of three began to dismantle the front door and the restaurant was fully open throughout our stay with the outside temperature being only -4 degrees. The heating, how could it be otherwise, was probably off for cost reasons. Both service staff always tried hard, one only spoke English, the other spoke tolerable German. After about 20 minutes, just in time for our meal, the gentlemen started hammering and drilling, like on a construction site! Simply a great atmosphere for a cozy dinner on a Saturday, now wearing a jacket and wool hat because it was just super cold. The entire workforce, including the boss, didn't care, just as if nothing was happening. Cash payment is also not possible, only EC. Isn't that nice? Yes, that's not nice. We were there twice, the first and the last time👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻

To describe Pizzaria Il Pomodoro in simple words: simple from the outside, but it really has it all. When you enter you are greeted with a warm smile and shown to your seat depending on the number of people. The staff is friendly, polite and patient. The menu is stocked with various starters, salads, pasta, pizzas and desserts. Good selection of wines and really good coffee made on an espresso machine. The pizza dough is prepared by the owner himself, ingredients are ordered fresh and baked in the stone oven. And I have to honestly say, this is the best pizza in the entire Rhine-Main area. Traditional, Neapolitan, crispy and unique in taste. If you are hungry in the evening and want to order, forget about any kebab stalls or "pizzarias" and order here. Do yourself this favor.

I tried their pizza in Mainz and it rocked my world. The best pizza I have ever eaten!!! Later I went on a vacation in Rome (Italy) with high expectations to find better pizza here but none was better. The best pizza place in the world! Well done!

First, the owner is micro managing the whole room. Second, the pizza had so much pepper on it, that it was not enjoyable at all. Third, and most important!, the owner is collecting all tips for his own pocket. The waiter doesn’t get any tips (Trinkgeld) and that’s the reason why the waiter are changing so often. The owner should have more trust in the employees and give them their deserved tips!!! So my recommendation, give no tips at all.

0 stars if at all, there were several of us and you turned us away by telling us that we only had 1 hour to eat PIZZA... and then you simply cheekily lied to us and said that we were told that we only had 1 hours of time, and that's not true. We made reservations for several people a week in advance. We were called 1 hour before reservation and were told that there was no space for 15 people in the restaurant. Alternatively just outside... Why aren't we told this a week in advance when we make the reservation by telephone? In the end it was suddenly possible to get a seat inside... after a lot of back and forth we were now sitting inside, due to the cheap service we received and arriving with this statement, we paid €30 for 4 bottles of water, we drank them Drinks and we were gone👎🏻

Absolutely perfect little spot. I'm traveling for work alone and therefore eatting dinner alone. It's a bit awkward eating by yourself but the guys working made it so comfortable. I had the carpaccio to start and the genovee pasta and bot were delicious. The service was so friendly and he checked on me multiple times. I asked for my pasta in a to go box and he bagged it right up. I can see myself going again in the next 10 days even with so many other options out there, they were that nice. Thank you :)

I recently had the pleasure of trying a pizza in Mainz that I absolutely loved. If you are looking for authentic Neapolitan pizza then this pizzeria is a must. The pizza itself is to die for. The dough is wonderfully soft, airy and slightly crispy on the edges, exactly how a Neapolitan pizza should be. The taste of the dough is rich and aromatic, indicating long fermentation and quality ingredients. The topping is excellent! Ingredients: It is clear that only the best ingredients are used here. From the olive oil to the cheese to the fresh tomatoes - everything is of the highest quality and authentically Italian. You can taste the care and passion that goes into every pizza. Conclusion: For me this is the best Neapolitan pizza in Mainz. Authentic taste, excellent quality of ingredients and an ambience that immediately transports you to Italy. I can't wait to come back. Absolutely recommended!

Unfortunately only 3/5 even though the food was excellent! I have never experienced such bad service. Even though we had reserved a table was set aside. When I ordered I received the message “I can’t take the order, I don’t know the table number”. It started to rain and we had to ask several times if they could move the table. We had asked for both pizzas to be brought at the same time - when I hadn't even ordered yet (since my selection didn't work, I had to order again) I was told "oh well, one of the pizzas is already ready" - when the starter was there we had to wait about 5 minutes Cutlery, spices/vinegar/oil waiting. We noticed the (communication) problems in the kitchen, which is an absolute no-go as a guest. Pizza and antipasti are absolutely recommended! Given the prices, I would also like to see corresponding service.

Edge/shape - Find the size OK. - Very nice pattern on the edge I would argue that it is the best pizza in Mainz. But it wasn't a taste explosion, so a good 8/10.

Lots of choice on the menu. Service was OK. Nice to sit outdoors. Prices were reasonable. Calzone was good although slightly doughy (this style of pizza is quite doughy) but the topping was all in one half.

The pizza dough was very soft. So soggy in the middle of the pizza that you could assume there was no dough at all. There was also way too much cheese on the pizza. It has nothing to do with an Italian pizza. The drinks are exorbitantly expensive. No recommendation. At L'Osteria you get much more for your money and a perfect Italian pizza!!!

Uniquely good pizza! Fluffy dough with a delicious crust, fresh from the pizza oven. The food was delivered quickly and the price was right. The decor could be more loving, but from a purely culinary point of view it is absolutely convincing.

You can actually eat authentic Italian pizza here! In my opinion it's the best pizzeria in the city, I really like going here and I'm happy to spend one or two euros more. The visit is worth it!

Overall nice, a bit tight inside which lead the waitresses walking past my table every minute (almost). Food was good (I got bolognese) but it was mostly spaghetti and for the price, I would say it's a bit overpriced (14.50€).

I've had a lot of pizzas there, all very good! There are slightly more “classy” and special varieties, which makes the visit worth it, not run-of-the-mill pizzas. I think drinks are a bit expensive but: gotta respect the hustle ;) On each of my visits the team was extremely friendly and accommodating :)

We got a seat straight away, the food was quite good, but you have to add a lot of seasoning. The starter we had ordered was out, but we were not informed about it and instead the main course came. Food came quickly, you can definitely do it again!

Unfortunately no photo. I was too excited and curious. When the Pizza Siciliana with extra fried peppers and garlic came to the table about 7 minutes after ordering, I was too busy enjoying it. Basically, the pizza was very tasty, freshly topped and with a crispy edge that was nice and soft and airy on the inside. The base could have been a little crispier but almost all pizzerias in Germany have this problem. The service, however, was a disaster. Unfortunately, the waitress with the dark hair got ahead of her colleague who had already served us and was unfortunately completely unprofessional and unfriendly. Ordering the pizza without parmesan wasn't possible at first, then it was, then not again and besides, it wouldn't taste good without it anyway. Basil instead wouldn't work either (even though it's significantly cheaper), I've never experienced anything like that in any pizzeria. However, her behavior was completely disinterested and rude the whole time, including towards other guests, which unfortunately can ruin your evening. I know Mainz is known for poor service, but it's still not fun, even if the food is good. Maybe she should learn something from her colleague or consider changing jobs.. 🤙🏻
