Il Duca in Bad Salzungen

The restaurant's location is truly beautiful, right on the lake in Bad Salzungen. It's certainly a pleasant spot to sit outside and have a drink. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed with the food. The bruschetta was more like a tomato salad on stale baguette than a classic appetizer. The main courses were also underwhelming: everything tasted bland and under-seasoned. The truffle sauce, described as "creamy," was more like a simple gravy. The strips of beef tenderloin were also dry and, in some places, gristly. Even small things were missing; for example, we would have appreciated salt and pepper shakers on the table so we could at least season the food a little. Overall, a great location and friendly service, but there's definitely room for improvement when it comes to the food.

Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to our expectations. The dishes seemed very basic and some didn't match the menu descriptions. As a result, the taste was disappointing. The main course tasted more like a simple ready-made meal with a strong bouillon cube flavor. The banana wheat beer, in particular, was very lumpy, suggesting that old banana juice was used or that the drink wasn't fresh. The restaurant itself was very quiet – however, we were also the only guests, which made the atmosphere feel a bit empty. It's also worth noting that they don't serve pizza, even though you might expect that in an Italian restaurant. On the positive side, the location is beautiful and idyllic, right on the lake. The service was also very friendly and attentive, which we appreciated. Overall, the restaurant's main strengths are its location and friendly service, but we wouldn't recommend it based on the food.

The food is absolutely delicious – I've never eaten at such a fantastic Italian restaurant! The dishes were freshly prepared, perfectly balanced in flavor, and beautifully presented. You can immediately tell that they put a lot of love and use high-quality ingredients. I also have absolutely no complaints about the staff; quite the opposite, in fact: everyone was very friendly, attentive, and incredibly efficient. You feel welcome and well taken care of from the very first moment. Overall, a truly wonderful experience. We will definitely be back and highly recommend this restaurant!

Very nice restaurant, very friendly service and the food tastes very good

Service was very attentive. The food was tasty...my spaghetti could have been a bit spicier, so I'd ask for some pepperoni. The fish was very good. Only the bruschetta...wasn't quite as great...I've only ever had it with tomatoes and garlic on toasted bread. The onions bothered me, and the bread could have been more toasted. But that's a matter of taste. It was a lovely evening.

We had a delicious meal with a generous glass of wine in a pleasant atmosphere. Friendly service. Relatively well-priced too. Highly recommended and more inviting than other restaurants in this city.

The pasta and tortellini dishes were delicious. Highly recommended 👍 It's a shame there are no pizzas on the menu.

I personally enjoyed the food, but some of my companions less so. The dessert, tiramisu with pistachio sauce, was amazing, though! The meat type (fillet) listed on the menu differs from the actual meat and is interpreted a bit loosely by the staff. A butcher with me was more critical. Overall, the food here is good.

After requesting a seat in the shade, we were offered two tables. Both were only moderately shaded and had already heated up considerably in the summer temperatures of 33°C. While others might describe the lakeside location as idyllic, an unpleasant odor hit us here, so we decided to move indoors. It seemed pleasantly cool when we went to the restroom. However, a lakeside restaurant should at least have toilet paper in the restrooms after having only recently opened (visited around 12:00 noon on a weekday). After I pointed this out to the staff/manager, we were somewhat rudely told to return the seating to its original location. The food: The children's plate was delicious, fresh, and appetizing. The bruschetta we chose was unfortunately pre-made baguette, which, although deliciously presented, seemed a bit pricey for four slices with fresh tomatoes. The service was very friendly. All in all, a great location with more show than substance. The food, from the few guests already dining there at this time of day, smelled and looked good.

Definitely not recommended, as the conditions were otherwise largely occupied. After half an hour, we no longer felt like placing an order.

We spent a pleasant evening at Il Duca with five people for dinner and drinks; the service was very slow and poor. After a friendly reminder at the end when paying, I was informed that we had only ordered one meal out of the five people and that this was not acceptable. The starter (soup) and main course arrived at the same time and without any care. The table was not cleared away or even asked if we would like another drink. The location on the lake is very beautiful, but with a changing spa population, good service is probably lacking. The restaurant was not full on a Monday; there were enough seats available, so no one was denied a seat. Not recommended.

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend it. This was our second time there to round off the day with a glass of wine. The waiter took our first order and brought it to us and was never seen again. We didn't think anything of it the first time, but unfortunately it was no different on the second visit. The dishes were left on the table and we were skillfully ignored again. When we asked about this situation when it was time to pay, we were told that not everyone at the table had ordered something to eat and that we would therefore not be served any further. Small talk, as we would certainly have ordered a second drink. On both visits, the restaurant was not overcrowded and we would have taken space away from other guests. The food was generally good, although not complete. The starter soup was missing pieces of toasted bread and the starter soup was placed on my table along with the main course. Unkind and unprofessional. A truly disappointing experience. There is still a lot of room for improvement.

Our absolute favorite Italian restaurant and also our favorite. We always enjoy coming here, even if we have to drive 150 km. Everything we've eaten here so far has been excellent. We'll definitely be coming back often. Thank you for this treat. The value for money is excellent.

Absolutely outstanding! We've been there many times and always plan our trips nearby so we can eat there. The two-hour drive is always worth it.

For us, Il Duca is a truly feel-good place in Bad Salzungen. The location directly on the Burgsee is fantastic – perfect for sitting outside and gazing out over the water. You feel welcome from the moment you arrive, the atmosphere is relaxed, and the staff is incredibly friendly and attentive. We only had a small snack and drinks this time, but even the tomato soup was divine: wonderfully aromatic, perfectly seasoned, and simply perfect for snuggling up in. Add to that the attentive service – you can tell that a lot of heart and soul goes into this place, even when things get a bit hectic. We love coming here to unwind with good food and a glass of wine. For us, it's one of the most beautiful places in Bad Salzungen!

This is a great place to eat well and affordably. The dishes are delicious and the portions are perfectly adequate. The service is friendly and attentive. The proximity to the Burgsee lake creates a certain ambiance, but I personally still felt that the Italian touch was missing – although the dishes certainly had that.

We've eaten there several times. But we love the garlic soup. Unfortunately, we live over 300 kilometers away 🤷🏻‍♀️ otherwise we would eat there more often. Very nice hosts.

It was nice. But don't expect meals the size of lumberjack steaks.

Two of us were there and each had an ice cream and an espresso or cappuccino. My sundae consisted of two scoops of ice cream and an insane amount of cream. Sure, that's how you fill the sundae. The ice cream didn't taste good. My wife's ice cream contained chunks of what we suspect was powdered milk. The coffee wasn't particularly good, and the sugar sticks were visible! It had already gotten wet. But the espresso didn't have a crema through which you could have sprinkled sugar anyway. I would have complained there... But we were just quickly charged... The obligatory question about whether we enjoyed the meal didn't even come up. We'll soon find out why.

The food was almost cold. €15.50 for that portion size is quite a price. If it had been warm, I would have tolerated it more. But it wasn't just me who was cold. Otherwise, it was okay. But honestly, I wouldn't go there again.

Today we were a group of 25 people who had registered. We were greeted warmly and shown to our seats. After "everyone" had ordered, the waitress asked who had a reservation, so I got up and was escorted to the manager(?), who then reproached me for why everyone wasn't eating something. He had scheduled extra staff, and it wasn't acceptable for people to just have a drink and not eat anything. I was completely perplexed and said I would pass it on. I didn't understand it, though. Yes, we had registered, but I can't force anyone to eat if they aren't hungry. They brought food to those who had ordered it, and then there was no waiter to be seen. They had put together a small menu for us so there weren't 25 different dishes. I can completely understand that from a manager's perspective, but perhaps they should have chosen something that everyone would eat. There were broken glass behind the door of the ladies' restrooms and some of the rooms looked like Christmas decorations 🙈 Nevertheless, the food was tasty

We were there as a group of 25 people. We were told beforehand that they would create a special discounted menu for us. That would have been fine, if I'd been able to read it. Not everyone in our group ordered something to eat, which the owner didn't like at all. They're a restaurant, and people should order their own food. It's a shame, it spoils the impression a bit. The food tasted good, but unfortunately, it was very garlicky and lukewarm.

The adults' starters and main courses were good, but the children's bolo were generous portions, but not at all impressive in terms of taste. Service was very fast and very friendly.

Absolutely not. I was served food I didn't order. When I tried to complain, they claimed I had ordered it that way. Since I don't eat mushrooms, I sent the food back. I was charged the full amount. Absolutely terrible service. It's a disgrace, really.

Six of us went to Il Duca for dinner on a Sunday evening. The food was really good, but the fried potatoes advertised as a side dish with our salmon dish and rump steak consisted of only five slices of potato – not even a whole potato. We would have expected a bit more for a dish costing just under €25. Otherwise, it was fine. 👍🏼

A few years ago we had a wonderful meal here. We were looking forward to eating here again this year. What a disappointment. As a starter I had the carpaccio. It was tasteless and the bed of meat was hardly visible. The arugula, mushrooms and cheese etc. were all the more. Pepper, salt, oil and vinegar were put on the table. Apparently to season it yourself. My wife had the bruschetta al pomodoro. This was just fine. Immediately after the starter the main course was brought. I had the bistecca alla grigilia. The meat was tender but had hardly any flavour and certainly had not seen a grill. My wife had costolette di agnello in salsa di lamponi. Here too the meat was tender. However, the meat itself had no flavour. The granberry sauce on which the meat lay was so little that it did not really have any flavour. And who would think in a good restaurant that the moment you finish your starter, your plate is immediately taken away and your main course is also immediately on the table..... Both dishes had the same potatoes and vegetables. Clearly not freshly prepared and floating in fat. A company canteen does better. We noticed that other guests with other dishes got the same with their meat or fish. So we didn't have dessert. We were outside again within 45 minutes. For us, restaurant Il Duca is done.

The whole package was very good, with good service, being out by the lake is of course the most beautiful. The food was very good. 😋 There is also a small ice cream parlor. If we're in the area again, we'll come back. A visit is worth it 😀

I've eaten here several times now and I'm still impressed. The Duca ll is in an idyllic location in the city center on Lake Burgsee. The decor is very nice and there is a wonderful outdoor area for the nice days... Of course with a lovely view of the Burgsee with its colorful fountain. I actually had food as usual 🤣 Tagliatelle del Duca with beef fillet tips, cherry tomatoes and truffle cream.😋👌🏻 Price performance is completely okay 👍🏻

We looked for a good restaurant in Bad Salzungen for a long time and found Il Duca. Everything is actually right here. Food quality, friendliness and a nice ambience. Also fresh flowers on the table.

We spontaneously stopped by for coffee today. A delicious cappuccino, authentic Italian. The apple strudel was also good. The hearty food at the neighboring tables also looked delicious. The service was friendly. We'd be happy to come back.

This was by far one of the best dishes I have ever eaten. 5 stars are not enough for this great restaurant.

We walked around Lake Burgsee today, November 3rd, 2024 at around 12:30 p.m. We thought it would be a good idea to eat there. There were still a few seats available and I asked if there was still a table available for 6 people. 4 adults, 2 children and dog. The waiter said he didn't have any space available. None of the tables had a “reserved” seat and there were still a few seats available. I think the waiter didn't feel like having children or dogs. Very unfortunate. We then went to the “Haunscher Hof” where we were warmly welcomed and served.

I don't understand the rating for food. To charge a price of 13.50 euros for a salad without herbs and with lots of corn, little tuna and very bad balsamic cream. Really hard.

The food was only warmed up after I asked the waiter and he told me he would prepare everything fresh in the morning. We were there at 5:30pm because the fried vegetables were four slices of potatoes and one slice of pepper and two thin slices of zucchini. Everything tasted like it was from the day before. We ate almost nothing and still had to pay the entire price. If you want to eat something decent, you should look for something else.

Very, very warm, the outdoor area was very nice, good food and at the end espresso and grappa on the house. What more do you want. We are delighted and excited. Absolutely recommended!!!!!

I ate a tiramisu in the patio there. But I didn't think it was really Italian. It didn't taste like coffee or amaretto, the cream tasted more like whipped cream than mascarpone and the typical cocoa layer was missing, but there were splashes of chocolate sauce. That was disappointing. I didn't eat any other dishes in the restaurant so I can't comment on them. The location is very nice with a view of the lake.
