The food was great. The Yogi tea was delicious, and I could also get it to go. Unfortunately, the restrooms are dirty, and it wasn't very pleasant. My husband found the smell of the incense sticks too strong. I found it very pleasant. And service is also in the eye of the beholder. I was satisfied 😊

I’ve been to House of India a couple of times now, and it’s definitely one of the better spots in Jena if you’re craving Indian food. The dishes are full of flavor, and they adjust the spice level to what you want, which I really appreciate. The naan is always fresh and the curries taste authentic. The staff are friendly and welcoming they even remembered me on my second visit, which was a nice touch. The place itself is cozy, not too fancy, but comfortable enough to sit and enjoy a meal. Prices are fair for the quality, though it can feel a bit on the higher side if you order a lot of extras. I’d definitely recommend it for dinner with friends or a takeaway night. Only thing I’d note is that if you’re planning something time-sensitive (like a big order for an event), I’d double-check timing in advance. Overall, great food, good service, and probably the most authentic Indian option you’ll find in Jena.

This family-owned restaurant offers an extensive menu of freshly-prepared foods that are perfectly seasoned, beautifully presented and delicious. The service was impeccible; you're treated like family. The portions were generous and the prices reasonable. This restaurant has plenty of space to accomodate large parties, while at the same time offering smaller tables and booths for a more intimate dining experience. Highly reccommend!

🚨Do NOT Trust House of India, Jena for Important Events🚨 We ordered samosas one month in advance for a PhD defense from House of India restaurant in Jena, with a clearly agreed pickup time of 3 PM. We even called the day before to confirm — and were told everything would be ready. But when we arrived at 3 PM, the owner casually said, “This is our lunch time,” and told us to wait outside for 45 minutes. Only then did he start preparing the order — nothing was ready at all. He shut the door on us without a second thought. At 4:10 PM — when the guests had already left and the defense was over — he finally called. Too late. No food. No apology. No sense of responsibility. We went back the next day to speak to him, and instead of admitting fault, he arrogantly said, “Who even comes exactly at 3 PM?” Are you serious? You confirmed that time. Then he proudly added, “Germans wait an hour for my food.” That’s his attitude. This wasn’t just a delay — it was complete disrespect, dishonesty, and ego. A PhD defense is a once-in-a-lifetime moment — and he ruined it. If you care about your event or your dignity, do not trust someone who can’t even keep his word, let alone show basic human decency.

The service is very bad. I recommend to try Namasto or Naan & curry instead

A restaurant that seemingly promises more than it delivers. The starter was served after 45 minutes. The table was uncleaned, and the cutlery was left in a pile on the table. The pakora (fried vegetables) seemed to be made from leftovers. The advantage is that you can pay by card and that the restaurant is very centrally located.

Unfortunately, I have to say that the service today was a disaster. The waitress was very slow, unsociable, and simply rude. It was the same last time with the same waiter. We were alone in the outdoor area, and he barely served us. We couldn't order more drinks or dessert. He simply placed the drinks and food on our table. The food was delicious, though.

Since we've eaten here several times, I can only say the service is excellent. Every wish is fulfilled whenever possible. On our first visit, the chef personally recommended dishes to us, and he was spot on. On our last visit, I had a very good, long conversation with the chef. He took his time, and I highly recommend the restaurant.

I visited the restaurant with my girlfriend on May 28, 2025. On the positive side, we were served quickly, and the drinks and food were initially satisfactory. For starters, we had onion bhaji, served with typical Indian sauces. Upon closer inspection, we realized that we were probably not the first to be served these sauce bowls. Especially in the bowl with the light green "mint sauce," a dried-on edge was noticeable. Otherwise, there was nothing wrong with the food, and we enjoyed it. Unfortunately, at 5:00 a.m. this morning, I had a rude awakening, literally, with gastrointestinal discomfort, and I had to vomit. Over the course of the day, I experienced the full spectrum of symptoms of food poisoning, including chills and severe stomach pain. These symptoms, unfortunately, were due to nothing other than the Indian food. Since I had a very mild dish (chicken korma), the possibility that I couldn't handle the spice is also ruled out. The ambiance was nice, if not particularly cozy. I would highly advise against visiting this restaurant.

Unfortunately, our order was forgotten. Even after an hour, the waitress didn't suspect that something might be wrong, even though there were no more than ten customers in the restaurant at the time.

I ordered chicken vindaloo as take out. People were very friendly. Food was ready in 10 min and even in take out with nice presentation. Great flavor! Fresh ginger, nice spices. They say it’s spicy but for me it was more mild to light spicy, which didn’t change my opinion that it was delicious!

Hands down the best Indian restaurant I’ve been to, at least in Germany. Waiting time can be a bit long but the food is 100% worth it. Definitely coming back again!

We ate here for the third time yesterday. The food is always very tasty and beautifully presented. Our service was also really courteous and warm, a pleasant atmosphere to feel really comfortable. We will happily eat here again in the future.

Train station atmosphere. Unfortunately, I can't comment on the food or drinks. We were practically the only customers. After the menus were placed on the table rather carelessly, we were ignored. Two members of the staff repeatedly walked past us, looking pointedly in the other direction. Judging by the stains on the tablecloth, someone before us must have had something to eat. It wasn't our fault; at the Indian restaurant at the market, we received courteous service and still managed to enjoy a good Indian meal.

The food may be good here and the waiters try hard, but the organization is a disaster. It was full that day and we waited 90 minutes for our food! In addition, the starter came after the main course. And we weren't asked for the whole 2 hours if we wanted anything else to drink. However, the food was good, but that's of little use to me if I have to wait forever.

Looks a bit inconspicuous from the outside. Nice restaurant with very nice staff. The food is very tasty. If it's not spicy enough for you, you can have green chili, then you can decide for yourself how spicy you want it to be. I can only recommend it, everyone will definitely find something here.

The best Indian tea in town! Food is good, the spinach dishes are a bit lukewarm and the masala/tikka/curry/spice sauces etc. are very similar in taste, but all good. Prices at lunch are around €10 and in the evening around €15. The naan bread is very good, but only available at an additional cost of €2.90.

The food was very tasty 😋 and the employees were friendly. The restaurant is nicely decorated. The point is deducted because it was freezing cold and I've never felt so cold while eating out. It was really uncomfortable at the end.

The best go to Indian restaurant in jena. You get what you pay for. I have already been twice within a month of it's opening and we love the flavors and textures. It's nearly close to authentic Indian food.

OUTRAGEOUS! We were at the restaurant today (Valentine's Day). I ordered for 2 people at 5:30 p.m. We had the table right at the entrance, where the boss (who seemed completely overwhelmed) stood the whole time. We had a starter, main course and dessert - from 7 p.m. we were suddenly cashed in without asking, but since we didn't want anything more anyway and were just waiting for the dessert, we didn't care. But suddenly the boss came and said to us "Please go slowly, I need the table" - the shop was full, but the boss himself had occupied at least 5 tables after us without a reservation!, the waiter had forgotten to forward our ice cream order to the kitchen and so we had to wait over 20 minutes for the ice cream, we didn't care, but the boss came to US a second time! & said "it's better to go now, I really need the table, we'll redo the bill". - 2 minutes later our ice cream arrived. So, if you accept reservations, you can't seat people you actually need at tables & kick out the people with reservations. It's a real shame, but we won't be coming back. 👎🏼

We were pleasantly surprised by both the food and the warmth of the service. Small extra requests were no problem and the food was great. The dishes are kept simple and without any ambitious ambitions but really well made. It's nice that there's now an Indian place in the city center that we like to go to. Good value for money. The ambience has improved significantly compared to the previous restaurant.

The food is fantastic! I love Indian food and this restaurant has authentic Indian chefs and is incredibly good. I know Indian food tends to be spicy. Nevertheless, ask for the food to be as spicy as the chef would make it at home. Trust me - you will not regret it. I ordered the Lamb Tikka Masala. I can highly recommend that dish 10/10.
