Hotel Schnookeloch in Heidelberg

They provided a good meal and a warm welcome without any discrimination. The Kellerbier was especially excellent.

We've been going there on and off for 30 years and it's always fun. We'll definitely go again when we're in Heidelberg.

Cozy restaurant, the service is prompt, very attentive, and friendly. The food was solidly good and tasty, but not outstanding. The portions are generous. Make a reservation if possible!

The Kaiserschmarrn arrived very quickly and was refrigerator-cold. Upon request, we were given a new, warmed portion... we won't be back.

Everything was absolutely fabulous — from the warm, attentive service to the incredible flavors of the food. The restaurant itself feels cozy and welcoming, making the whole experience unforgettable.

A quaint, super-beautiful, and cozy restaurant located in a small alleyway right in Heidelberg's beautiful old town, with plenty of outdoor seating. The service is also very friendly, and you'll feel at home there.

A really lovely pub with a wide selection of food. I went for the Schnitzel with cheese and fried onion pieces. The fried potatoes were lovely too. The lady who looked after us was really friendly and I would certainly go back if I am in the Heidelberg area again.

A quaint restaurant with cool, excellent drinks. The food is homely but nothing special! We were here with a tour group of 40 people. The service was good and friendly. It wasn't exactly cheap!

A few little things are missing to make it feel good. The table wasn't cleaned, the food came quickly, but mine wasn't particularly tasty. Maybe I just ordered the wrong dish. The atmosphere inside is certainly great, especially with music playing.

Quaint restaurant a bit off the beaten track! Although the restaurant is just down the alley from a tourist hotspot, it was very quiet here at lunchtime. It seems to be more of an insider tip. As I said, the place is very quaint and authentic - worth a visit! The food was delicious... except for the fried potatoes, which were a bit lacking in seasoning. Salt and pepper weren't served at the table until we asked. The service was good, just what you'd expect as a guest. In conclusion: I'd gladly go back, maybe with a bit more seasoning ;-)!

Highly recommended. I had a very good beef steak with pepper sauce here. It was truly delicious.

I wanted to pay by card (total 11.20 euro). I was told it would be 15 euro by card so I should pay by cash. Scam. Typical in Germany though

After years, I finally managed to eat there—and was extremely disappointed. A great, historic setting doesn't compensate for convenience food and frozen schnitzel.

Very friendly service and a quaint interior. The food and drinks were very expensive. We had cheese spaetzle and schnitzel with fried potatoes. Both were really bad. The schnitzel had more breading than meat; it was extremely dry, as if it had been deep-fried. The fried potatoes weren't cooked well. The spaetzle had been reheated in the oven and had way too much cheese and cream.

A truly lovely restaurant in Heidelberg's Old Town. Homely cooking, great, friendly service, and a piano player who was truly excellent on this Friday evening. Highly recommended – even with your dog.

We sat in the small backyard, drank a glass of wine, and had a bite to eat. The "beer garden" couldn't hurt a little TLC.

July 2025: Unfortunately, I have to correct my review and lower the service rating to 2 stars, because it's not what it was two years ago. We were only there for a beer. Unfortunately, we had to wait a while, even though there was only one table outside, and then the beer arrived stale and cloudy. We immediately pointed this out to the waiter, and instead of an apology and simply replacing it, we got a lecture: "The keg was empty, and it's normal for it to be cloudy and lack carbonation. If you don't believe me, come to the bar. You'll see." I don't care whether the keg is empty or anything like that, but rather that the price-performance ratio is right. That's completely unacceptable, and especially not for €5.60 for a 0.5 l!!! March 2023: Since Hacker Pschorr is my favorite beer and I saw that they serve it there, it's a MUST for me to take a break there 😁 I sat outside the restaurant. It looked very cozy inside, and they also have a great beer garden. The staff was very friendly, approachable, and fun 👍🏼 The food on the neighboring tables looked delicious and smelled accordingly. I can't rate the food any further. Addendum October 2, 2023: I went there again today. I wasn't very hungry and asked for a kids' meal, which I received WITHOUT any problems. High praise and thank you very much for that!!! THAT'S what you call service...

Everything was super good and excellent....sausage...goulash...schnitzel...everything plentiful and super good

Service was so bad it was actually funny. Guy argued with us, maintaining that half a boiled potato was "Penne with Mediterranean vegetables."

The food was a complete disaster, looking and tasting old. The schnitzel was impossible to cut even with a steak knife, and the knuckle of pork looked like it was four days old and had been reheated several times. Unfortunately, the fried potatoes were very greasy and not fresh. It's a shame, because the menu promises more.

The food was bad and completely overpriced for the quality. The schnitzels were cooked in a hairdryer. The tarte flambée was also sparsely topped. Service only came by once to order.

The food was a complete disappointment. Completely bland and uninspiring. We only went there because the other restaurants didn't open until 6:00 PM. Next time, we'll wait.

It was like a dumpling, but the egg was well fried so it was good.

We just wanted a bite to eat and opted for cheese spaetzle and Kaiserschmarrn. The food was good and the drinks cold. Only the pigeons in the beer garden made us leave quickly. They shat all over everything, directly hitting the seat next to me. I don't understand why they don't put nails on the wooden slats so the pigeons don't sit directly above the guests. It was disgusting. Otherwise, the rest was really good. What a shame.

We stayed in the hotel, which was not very clean. The couch and chairs where dirty with loads of mysterious stains. Also no airco present. The food was good though.

I came here looking for Maultasen Panda and it was really delicious. The soup? It feels like onion soup and is excellent. The potato salad that comes with it is different from the usual one we know. It is not mayonnaise-based and has a strong sour taste. It is too filling to eat alone.

On May 29, 2025, I ate appetizers. The value for money was not right at all. The food tasted like cheap convenience foods. The service was okay.

Very bright and unusual place, beer is tasty and fresh. Old photos hang on the walls, cozy summer terrace, I recommend visiting!

Gülay is the best woman in the world! Words cannot describe the enthusiasm with which she brewed the beers and then brought them to the table. You have to experience it! The only thing missing was Gülay pouring the beers down our feed hatch! 5/5 experience!

Not recommended... We were there on the weekend with a group of 22 people. We had a reserved table and every single meal was ordered in advance. Nevertheless, we waited 1.5 hours, and even then, it still wasn't good. The place wasn't full at all, so that couldn't have been the problem. The pork stomach was terrible, the knuckle of pork was the same, just sloppy meat and no crust. As a tourist, you'll get a real rip-off here. Never again.

Very friendly service. A very nice, quaint restaurant. The wait was long – 1.5 hours, despite pre-ordering. According to the waitress, this was due to a last-minute staff absence. The food was mostly good. However, the pork knuckle wasn't what I expected. The skin was leathery. The friendly waitress apologized several times.

We had a company outing today and there were a total of 8 people. It was a very quaint place. The cleaning lady was just mopping and wasn't happy that two of us needed to go to the bathroom at that very moment. The food was excellent, but the surprise came when it was time to pay. Our finance officer hadn't even taken the amount out of her wallet when she was already reminded of the tip... Sorry, that's not possible. They didn't even wait to see if or how much of a tip we'd give.

The food is okay, but nothing special. Unfortunately, the waitress wasn't able to serve us a second round of drinks, even though it took two hours for everyone to get their food. I can't say much about the ambiance inside, as we sat outside in front of the restaurant.

Unfortunately, reservations and preparation aren't required. After 1 hour and 24 minutes, the food still wasn't there, even though the restaurant was at 50% capacity, not 100%... and we had ordered as a group four weeks in advance. What a pity.

Quaint student bar with a unique ambiance, often piano music, and pleasant guests. I've been a guest here for years and have always been quite satisfied with the food. The kitchen itself has declined considerably. Few homemade products leave the kitchen. Pre-made fried potatoes are served half-cooked, al dente. Crushed sauerkraut, cold bratwurst, tasteless liver dumplings...pre-made frozen schnitzels are served as a specialty with Odenwald cheese. The kitchen is no longer capable of breading a schnitzel itself. A real shame for this wonderful restaurant...recommendation... dine elsewhere and then enjoy a glass of wine in the Schnookeloch with piano music...recommend the minced meat devil.

A very quaint restaurant in a lovely side street not far from the Neckar River. Delicious menu with typical German dishes. There are also some vegetarian options. The food was very tasty, the wait time was normal, but the portions could have been a bit larger. There's also piano accompaniment, and you can sing along if you like. Those who prefer a more relaxed atmosphere can take a seat in the lovely beer garden.

We actually just wanted to drink a beer after a long walk (parked too far, 30 minute walk 🙄🤷🏽‍♂️) and move on again. But when we saw the food, I had to be careful not to drown in my own spit..🤤 One beer turned into a stay of over 3 hours with all the trimmings.. Very good portions, you can always argue about prices but it worked for us.. Above all, the beer garden was very comfortable, toilets were perfectly clean, ATTENTION wheelchair users, toilets are not accessible for wheelchairs, as I didn't see anything that was wheelchair accessible. The service was absolute madness, you should have employees like that, super nice, super accommodating and since we didn't know our way around and couldn't find a tobacconist's shop or vending machine, the service gave us her cigarettes. THANK YOU SO MUCH AGAIN FOR THIS AND FOR A NICE STAY WITH YOU. We didn't see much of Heidelberg because we sat there longer than planned, but the cozy and friendly atmosphere made it worth the hour's drive by car. Next time we'll take a look at everything before we come over..🙄🤷🏽‍♂️😅

The inn is really quaint. Old wooden table, lots of old photos on the wall and really cozy. However, we were totally disappointed with the food. The "crispy" pork knuckle was totally wobbly and not really warm, the sauerkraut was really cold and the fried potatoes weren't great either. As a small compensation we were then offered a free drink. Positive: The service was very friendly and the drinks were cold and tasty. If you just want to have a drink, you're in good hands here. However, I would definitely not recommend eating here.

I had organized a work dinner but unfortunately, I couldn't go as I got glutened at a previous restaurant. However, this restaurant offered a glutenfree menu. The guests liked the food and the atmosphere.

Incredible historical atmosphere with live piano music, mixed with people chatting, it is just inviting you inside! The place is an old German student bar with history, and you can see the Mensur club memorabilia on the walls. The food was amazing, simply delicious - try their pan.. or Schnitzel, both were very nice. Finally, service was impeccable, fast, very lovely & always smiling - much obliged Ms. Gulay.

We came from Dortmund for a play and ended up in the restaurant in the evening through a recommendation. Very competent and friendly service, the pork knuckle was exceptional and the beer was well tapped! If we're here again, we'll come back!

The atmosphere of the restaurant is very traditional, traditional and inviting. Unfortunately, the positive impression is limited to the furnishings and the schnitzel, which according to my companion was a success. Unfortunately, the cheese spaetzle was a bitter disappointment. It was more like spaetzle in a cheese and cream sauce (as is unfortunately the case in many places). However, they had nothing to do with real cheese spaetzle. The snow-white color and liquid already made it clear that cream was being used here and not high-quality cheese. The fried onions were undoubtedly also a finished product. I couldn't tell any difference to the cheese spaetzle in the Heidelberg central cafeteria. Canteen food, which is available here for just under €16 instead of €2.15 in the cafeteria.

Very nice, rustic restaurant. Good menu, prices are okay. I really liked the rustic atmosphere and the Hacker Pschorr 'bright' was good ☺️ we had an ox meat burger with fries and a coffee to round it off.

Sin embargo, cuando llegamos a nuestra hora señalada, solo había algunos otros huéspedes en los restaurantes. Nos sentamos pronto. La decoración era típica de lo que uno podría esperar de un restaurante alemán tradicional, con muchos paneles de madera oscura y decoraciones centradas en las ricas tradiciones universitarias de Heidelberg. Inglés - menús de idiomas fueron proporcionados. Mi compañero y yo pedimos schnitzels de varios tipos. La comida era sabrosa y los tamaños de las porciones abundantes. El servicio fue rápido y atento. Pudimos pagar con tarjeta. No buena comida, pero buena comida a precios decentes en un ambiente divertido. Una muy buena experiencia, en general.
