A very nice hotel in a deserted setting. But that's not the hotel's fault. The spa area is nicely done, but quite small. The rooms are clean, the beds comfortable, and the breakfast and service are excellent. Dinner is also highly recommended. Definitely good for relaxation.

Visit on October 18, 2025 – Philippo Bar at the Hotel Sonne, Frankenberg My visit refers exclusively to the Philippo Bar, not to the hotel or the overnight stay. The food is from the Sonnestuben menu (the restaurant upstairs), but can also be ordered downstairs in the bar. Ambience: After the renovation, the bar looks very modern and stylish – truly successful. You generally feel at home. Service: The waiter was friendly, but clearly sales-oriented. You can tell that the main goal is to generate as much revenue as possible – it can sometimes seem a bit pushy. Food: Wiener Schnitzel: Tasted okay, but absolutely nothing special. The value for money isn't right – for the price, you can get better quality at cheaper prices in the area. Kaiserschmarrn: Unfortunately, a complete disappointment. Served on a flat glass plate, everything (Kaiserschmarrn, ice cream, sauce) separate from each other. The Kaiserschmarrn itself was cold, dry, and disappointing in taste – more like moist cardboard. This dessert definitely shouldn't be served like that. Drinks: The freshly tapped beer was okay and tasted good. Conclusion: Nice ambiance, friendly service, but the food – especially the dessert – was completely unconvincing. The value for money isn't right. Despite the successful renovation of the Philippo Bar, I unfortunately can't recommend this place. → 2 stars.

I can only review the restaurant and the lounge. The water in the samovar in the lounge wasn't 30 degrees Celsius; on a cold autumn day, a hot tea in the late afternoon would have been perfect. But no one was there, despite the receptionist's announcement. The food at dinner was excellent, but one point deducted for the incredibly arrogant "head" waiter. He loudly announced at the next table that he had been in the restaurant industry for 16 years and knew all the Chardonnays in the world... "and I even serve this one in Michelin-starred restaurants, and if you don't like it, then..." WHAT? We almost left, because the same thing continued at the other table. We skipped dessert and coffee.

We had a wonderful weekend at the Hotel Sonne. The website didn't overpromise. The service is outstanding in every area! We particularly enjoyed dinner in the Sonne Stuben. First-class, unobtrusive service and a truly excellent quality of food and drinks. The breakfast is also exceptional. Everything is presented very fresh on the buffet, and everything is constantly replenished. We think it's a big plus that no food is packaged and that regional varieties of sausage and cheese are offered. The bread and rolls are also of very good quality. Everything you would expect from a hotel of this category is offered! There is also a selection of vegan dishes. We found it very pleasant that coffee and similar drinks and egg dishes were served at the table. And here, too, the service was first-class, unobtrusive and calm. The ambiance throughout the hotel is just as it appears on the website; nothing is sugarcoated or filtered. A very well-equipped hotel! The room also left nothing to be desired. We felt very comfortable and were looked after in a very pleasant way. We can wholeheartedly recommend the hotel and would be happy to return!

We booked the hiking package. On the second day, we arrived with a packed hiking backpack. Simply fantastic. We extended our stay for another night. The dinner was incredibly delicious. All in all, a fantastic hotel with outstanding food and service. October 2025: We stayed at the hotel for the second time. This time with our four-legged friend. Everything was perfect again. What we noticed, however, is that there are no longer any bedtime treats. And there's no longer a little farewell gift either. It's a shame. It's the little things that make it even more special. We'll definitely be back, even without this one. We promised that last year and kept our promise this year.

Perfect for a short break where you want to truly pamper yourself. The sumptuous breakfast buffet, the selection in the Sonnestuben restaurant, and the spa area leave nothing to be desired.

Frankenberg's city center, with its many vacant properties, isn't particularly inviting. The staff at the "Sonne" were, as always, extremely friendly; a strength of the hotel! Dinner at the "Philipp Soldan" was excellent and worth the trip. The hotel's wellness area has been partially renovated, but unfortunately, it's quite cramped. The room was nice, but quite small, and the prices have risen significantly – it's now difficult to offer value for money, especially since some of the features that make the difference compared to a soulless business hotel have been removed. Delicious homemade chocolate in the room, a farewell giveaway – this makes guests happy; they feel appreciated and remember their stay even at home. The costs for this should be reasonable. Raising prices while reducing services is not a good strategy.

Unfortunately, the restaurant prices are very high, side dishes have to be ordered separately at a high price, and the service isn't comparable to other fine dining options. Plates are often handed over the wrong side of the restaurant guest, or not with much sensitivity.

The service is very attentive, and breakfast and dinner in the sun are highly recommended. The rooms and sauna area are newly renovated and inviting. Unfortunately, there are no longer any refrigerators or drinks in the rooms. The small welcome gift and bedtime treat were also unfortunately removed after the renovations. Previously, there was also a small farewell gift. These nice touches made all the difference compared to many other hotels, and we were happy to pay the higher room rate. We highly recommend Mr. Amecke's Michelin-starred cuisine and regularly enjoy the extensive spa offerings during our stays.

Simply a very nice hotel with great service!

The location and the hotel are top-notch. Unfortunately, something else upset me. I was there in June 2024. I liked the spa bag so much that I wanted to buy it. Unfortunately, they didn't have any in stock, so I left my address. But they never contacted me. I've been chasing them for a year now. Now it seems to be back, as I said on the last call, and the bag was sent to me. But oops, a completely different quality and much smaller. My inquiries (over a few stations) revealed: Yes, there must have been a problem with the delivery. Well, it can happen. But can't you say that? And then after a year they just send me this bag for the same (!) price? Now I have to return it for €7.49. A bit stupid. 😪 Update 9.7. The "compensation" was once again somewhat slow communication, which culminated in an offer to buy the bag at the increased regular price. So sorry...

Die Sonne is a hotel whose every detail makes aesthete's heart beat faster. The magnificent terrace alone, set against the almost surreal backdrop of the town hall, is a sight to behold! Unfortunately, I had two almost sleepless nights because of a duvet that was suitable for winter nights. It was far too thick, and the cover at the foot of the room was completely open (no tuck-in), which is far from hygienic! Running the air conditioning at night is unfortunately not an option, as it's far too loud. When I asked, they couldn't offer me an alternative to the provided duvet. However, I expect a hotel of this category to at least have a certain supply of seasonal duvets. For that reason alone, I lose one star!

We returned to this hotel for another culinary event, and everything was perfect again. The next culinary event at this hotel is already booked.

A beautiful hotel with a highly recommended spa. The hotel has Michelin-starred cuisine, which we unfortunately haven't had the chance to try yet, but we've heard nothing but good things about it. The breakfast is plentiful, and everything you could want is there. Plus, there are always freshly squeezed juices and sparkling wine. The service is excellent, and the ladies try to fulfill every wish.

Highly recommended. Hotel in the idyllic town of Frankenberg. Perfect for relaxing and unwinding. The hotel is very cozy and modern, with individually designed rooms. Booking and checking in at the hotel were very quick and without much bureaucracy, and the same was true for checkout. Service was very attentive and unobtrusive. We were completely satisfied; nothing was lacking. We would happily return and try out the spa area. We also enjoyed an evening at the Philipp Soldan restaurant. The menu was perfect and a fantastic experience. One criticism we would have is the hectic nature of the sommelier. A bit more individuality and personality would have been appropriate. Nevertheless, we definitely recommend it, and we look forward to our next visit.

Great hotel with a beautiful dining area and great cuisine in the half-timbered village of Frankenberg

The small town of Frankenberg certainly has its charms, but we found that our walks through it quickly became exhausting. There were no cafes, no bistros, no other restaurants that would have been enjoyable to linger in. No shops to browse or stroll through. It sounds harsh, but the town gives a "dead" impression. So many rows of shops were empty. Many were left very neglected. There was also no tourist clientele. Hence, only three stars for the Frankenberg location. The hotel is great, just the surroundings.

All I'm saying is, no more chocolate in the room. If you've been back to your house for years, it's immediately noticeable. And I missed the saltwater pool. The rooms have been redesigned and are also beautiful; the pelators deserve a cleaning.

Perfect service and the game was extremely tasty.

We felt very cared for and welcome at all times. Carefully designed ambience, both in the public areas as well as in the room and in the wellness area. Extra requests (e.g. an additional topper because the mattress was too hard) were responded to quickly and without fuss. The rental eBikes were great. Likewise the food.

No minibar, no small coffee maker in the standard room. Otherwise everything was great.

If a customer in a restaurant says 4 times that he has a stomach ache and is forced to order something to drink 4 times (and the customer orders something to get rid of the waiter), you definitely don't bring him a drink with "ice and lemon". Just because it has to look nice and meet the standard. The correct advice would have been: I recommend tea. But you can't think that far! And then the waiter in the corner has to moan that something like that has never happened to him before. The customer is always king and should be properly advised. And before that, cola was even offered. Definitely with ice cream too. Also totally wrong. He's probably never had a stomach ache.

Always my pleasure! A long weekend with spa, relaxation and good food. The newly designed rooms are very successful and the service is, as usual, very good. We were completely satisfied.

A jewel right in the center of Frankenberg and surrounded by beautiful half-timbered houses. The rooms are individually designed, large and maximally integrated into the spatial possibilities of the building structure. The restaurant offers fine, selected cuisine, perfectly coordinated dishes and drinks. This as well as an extensive breakfast is accompanied by attentive service staff.

We had a successful weekend stay in a great atmosphere. The hotel is beautifully centrally located and the rooms are spacious and beautifully designed. In our opinion, the renovation of the rooms planned for the beginning of 2025 would not be necessary at all. The staff is very accommodating and friendly. The wellness area leaves nothing to be desired. Both the three-course menu and the breakfast buffet were very attractively prepared, extensive and tasty. We can recommend your stay in the sun with a clear conscience.

Very nice weekend at the Hotel “Die Sonne”, perfect atmosphere and service.

We had booked a Christmas package with one overnight stay. In the afternoon we received an uncomplicated and very warm welcome. On the terrace we enjoyed mulled wine with delicious stollen pastries in a cozy, Christmas atmosphere. An excellent 5-course menu awaited us in the Sonnenstuben restaurant, with great service that was generally reflected throughout the entire hotel. The rooms are small, but very comfortable and lovingly furnished with many small details. The beds are very comfortable and cozy. Our breakfast the next morning left nothing to be desired and was very good. All in all, we had a very nice time in the sun and would love to come back. I would like to once again emphasize the fantastic service that every single employee offers. Super friendly and very attentive.

The arrangement was great. The cuisine cannot be beat. Additional services booked were fully fulfilled. The 5-course menu took too long for me personally. The optics were also 100% right. The service staff at Philipp Soldan knew their craft. The sauna area is more than great. Unfortunately the mattresses are too soft. The location of the house deserves six out of five stars. And last but not least, we enjoyed a more than hearty breakfast in a breakfast room that couldn't be surpassed in terms of cosiness and ambience. It's not just the service staff in the restaurant that are friendly and not fake. Wow high three. (Capturing the menu in pictures would have completely spoiled the mood. Therefore none.)

Very pleasant and, above all, quiet hotel despite being close to the old town. You don't hear anything from your neighbors and the room itself (bathroom/bed) is also very dim. We stayed at the hotel as part of an arrangement and had booked a 3-course menu. The food was ok, but my corn poulard was a bit dry. Because the vegetables were served with a sauce, I asked the waiter if I could have some more sauce. He brought a small container with about 2 spoonfuls of sauce and said there would be an additional charge for this sauce. I thought it was a joke, but the bill showed €4 for it. Because I had never experienced this before, especially not in an upscale restaurant, I asked. He said it was for the extra effort and that he went to the kitchen to do it. We paid the €4 and thought our part.

My sister and I had a wonderful stay from Friday to Sunday. The room was big enough and very well maintained. The spa area initially seemed very small to us, but in retrospect it was completely sufficient. Everything was very clean and the staff in all areas of the hotel were always very friendly and attentive. From the spa area I would particularly like to mention Antonia (foot care), Mr. Werner (dorn spine therapy) and Ludmilla and Carola (both massages). The 3-course menu on the first evening was very tasty and absolutely sufficient (unfortunately I didn't quite finish dessert). The wine recommendations were very good and absolutely appropriate. The dinner from the menu on the second evening was also very tasty. Due to the size of the portions, we skipped the starter and dessert 😉 The breakfast buffet is second to none, it is very rare to find such a selection and quality. The reception was available at any time and the service left nothing to be desired. We left feeling relaxed and would love to come back!

The Hotel “Sonne Frankenberg” impresses with a successful mix of historical charm and modern comfort. The rooms are extremely stylish and furnished with great attention to detail, making them a retreat of special quality. The cuisine is particularly noteworthy: the in-house restaurants offer an exquisite selection of dishes that will delight lovers of both traditional and modern cuisine. The entire house is in immaculate, extremely well-maintained condition, which makes your stay particularly pleasant. The wellness area also impresses with its high-quality furnishings, although it is a bit small for a hotel in this category. Unfortunately, you won't find a swimming pool here. A small drawback is the underground car park, which is relatively far from the hotel, which somewhat reduces the convenience of checking in and out. The price level of the hotel also gives rise to minor criticism. Although a relatively high standard is offered here in terms of comfort, cuisine and service, the price-performance ratio does not seem to be quite balanced in some areas. All in all, however, the Hotel “Sonne Frankenberg” offers a very pleasant and stylish experience for its guests.

In the heart of Frankenberg, the hotel and its staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. My room was great, the beamed ceiling and the interior were very harmoniously coordinated. The breakfast restaurant is second to none; you rarely see such a lovingly coordinated ambience. The wellness and spa area is spacious and definitely leaves the hectic everyday life outside the door. My husband and I spent a wonderful wellness weekend here and were able to switch off from everyday life. The service is exceptional, both beforehand and upon arrival, in the restaurant, at breakfast and at check-out. There are enough parking spaces directly in front of the door and free of charge. My three highlights: The food in the Sonne restaurant, the sauna area and the exceptionally good breakfast. Here, emphasis is placed on regional products, which I find particularly nice.

Very good restaurant, well-equipped fitness room, beautiful spa with great pampering offers. I'll be happy to come back! Particularly cool: The rooms are equipped with tablets that make the guest directory accessible electronically and enable chat with reception. This means that every special request can be easily met.

Good hotel which was exactly as described. Everything was really clean, good staff as well. Breakfastroom looked really nice and great food with a lot of options. The spa en wellness were also clean and looked luxurious and new with good materials. Only negative point is the village, there is not a lot to do in the village but by car you can reach some cool activities within 30min.
